1. പെസഹപെരുനാളിന്നു മുമ്പെ താന് ഈ ലോകം വിട്ടു പിതാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോകുവാനുള്ള നാഴിക വന്നു എന്നു യേശു അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടു, ലോകത്തില് തനിക്കുള്ളവരെ സ്നേഹിച്ചതുപോലെ അവസാനത്തോളം അവരെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു.

1. It was just before the festival of [Pesach], and Yeshua knew that the time had come for him to pass from this world to the Father. Having loved his own people in the world, he loved them to the end.

2. അത്താഴം ആയപ്പോള് പിശാചു, ശിമോന്റെ മകനായ യൂദാ ഈസ്കര്യോത്തവിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് അവനെ കാണിച്ചുകൊടുപ്പാന് തോന്നിച്ചിരുന്നു;

2. They were at supper, and the Adversary had already put the desire to betray him into the heart of Y'hudah Ben-Shim'on from K'riot.

3. പിതാവു സകലവും തന്റെ കയ്യില് തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നും താന് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു വന്നു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോകുന്നു എന്നും യേശു അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കെ

3. Yeshua was aware that the Father had put everything in his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God.

4. അത്താഴത്തില് നിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു വസ്ത്രം ഊരിവെച്ചു ഒരു തുവര്ത്തു എടുത്തു അരയില് ചുറ്റി

4. So he rose from the table, removed his outer garments and wrapped a towel around his waist.

5. ഒരു പാത്രത്തില് വെള്ളം പകര്ന്നു ശിഷ്യന്മാരുടെ കാല് കഴുകുവാനും അരയില് ചുറ്റിയിരുന്ന തുണികൊണ്ടു തുവര്ത്തുവാനും തുടങ്ങി.

5. Then he poured some water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the [talmidim] and wipe them off with the towel wrapped around him.

6. അവന് ശിമോന് പത്രൊസിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നപ്പോള് അവന് അവനോടുകര്ത്താവേ, നീ എന്റെ കാല് കഴുകുന്നുവോ, എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. He came to Shim'on Kefa, who said to him, 'Lord! You are washing my feet?'

7. യേശു അവനോടുഞാന് ചെയ്യുന്നതു നീ ഇപ്പോള് അറിയുന്നില്ല; പിന്നെ അറിയും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

7. Yeshua answered him, 'You don't understand yet what I am doing, but in time you will understand.'

8. നീ ഒരുനാളും എന്റെ കാല് കഴുകുകയില്ല എന്നു പത്രൊസ് പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു യേശുഞാന് നിന്നെ കഴുകാഞ്ഞാല് നിനക്കു എന്നോടുകൂടെ പങ്കില്ല എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോള് ശിമോന് പത്രൊസ്

8. 'No!' said Kefa, 'You will never wash my feet!' Yeshua answered him, 'If I don't wash you, you have no share with me.'

9. കര്ത്താവേ, എന്റെ കാല് മാത്രമല്ല കയ്യും തലയും കൂടെ കഴുകേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. 'Lord,' Shim'on Kefa replied, 'not only my feet, but my hands and head too!'

10. യേശു അവനോടുകുളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന്നു കാല് അല്ലാതെ കഴുകുവാന് ആവശ്യം ഇല്ല; അവന് മുഴുവനും ശുദ്ധിയുള്ളവന് ; നിങ്ങള് ശുദ്ധിയുള്ളവര് ആകുന്നു; എല്ലാവരും അല്ലതാനും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Yeshua said to him, 'A man who has had a bath doesn't need to wash, except his feet- his body is already clean. And you people are clean, but not all of you.'

11. തന്നെ കാണിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുന്നവനെ അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കകൊണ്ടത്രേ എല്ലാവരും ശുദ്ധിയുള്ളവരല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതു.

11. (He knew who was betraying him; this is why he said, 'Not all of you are clean.')

12. അവന് അവരുടെ കാല് കഴുകീട്ടു വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചു വീണ്ടും ഇരുന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ചെയ്തതു ഇന്നതു എന്നു അറിയുന്നുവോ?

12. After he had washed their feet, taken back his clothes and returned to the table, he said to them, 'Do you understand what I have done to you?

13. നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ ഗുരുവെന്നും കര്ത്താവെന്നും വിളിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് അങ്ങനെ ആകകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നതു ശരി.

13. You call me 'Rabbi' and 'Lord,' and you are right, because I am.

14. കര്ത്താവും ഗുരുവുമായ ഞാന് നിങ്ങളുടെ കാല് കഴുകി എങ്കില് നിങ്ങളും തമ്മില് തമ്മില് കാല് കഴുകേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.

14. Now if I, the Lord and Rabbi, have washed your feet, you also should wash each other's feet.

15. ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ദൃഷ്ടാന്തം തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

15. For I have set you an example, so that you may do as I have done to you.

16. ആമേന് , ആമേന് , ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നുദാസന് യജമാനനെക്കാള് വലിയവന് അല്ല; ദൂതന് തന്നെ അയച്ചവനെക്കാള് വലിയവനുമല്ല.

16. Yes, indeed! I tell you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is an emissary greater than the one who sent him.

17. ഇതു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നു എങ്കില് ചെയ്താല് ഭാഗ്യവാന്മാര്.

17. If you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

18. നിങ്ങളെ എല്ലാവരെയും കുറിച്ചു പറയുന്നില്ല; ഞാന് തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തവരെ ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; എന്നാല് “എന്റെ അപ്പം തിന്നുന്നവന് എന്റെ നേരെ കുതികാല് ഉയര്ത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നുള്ള തിരുവെഴുത്തിന്നു നിവൃത്തി വരേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.

18. 'I'm not talking to all of you- I know which ones I have chosen. But the words of the [Tanakh] must be fulfilled that say, 'The one eating my bread has turned against me.'

19. I'm telling you now, before it happens; so that when it does happen, you may believe that I AM [[who I say I am]].

20. ആമേന് , ആമേന് , ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നുഞാന് അയക്കുന്നവനെ കൈക്കൊള്ളുന്നവന് എന്നെ കൈക്കൊള്ളുന്നു; എന്നെ കൈക്കൊള്ളുന്നവന് എന്നെ അയച്ചവനെ കൈക്കൊള്ളുന്നു.

20. Yes, indeed! I tell you that a person who receives someone I send receives me, and that anyone who receives me receives the One who sent me.'

21. ഇതു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടു യേശു ഉള്ളം കലങ്ങിആമേന് , ആമേന് , ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നുനിങ്ങളില് ഒരുത്തന് എന്നെ കാണിച്ചുകൊടുക്കും എന്നു സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. After saying this, Yeshua, in deep anguish of spirit, declared, 'Yes, indeed! I tell you that one of you will betray me.'

22. ഇതു ആരെക്കുറിച്ചു പറയുന്നു എന്നു ശിഷ്യന്മാര് സംശയിച്ചു തമ്മില് തമ്മില് നോക്കി.

22. The [talmidim] stared at one another, totally mystified- whom could he mean?

23. ശിഷ്യന്മാരില് വെച്ചു യേശു സ്നേഹിച്ച ഒരുത്തന് യേശുവിന്റെ മാര്വ്വിടത്തു ചാരിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

23. One of his [talmidim], the one Yeshua particularly loved, was reclining close beside him.

24. ശിമോന് പത്രൊസ് അവനോടു ആംഗ്യം കാട്ടി, അവന് പറഞ്ഞതു ആരെക്കൊണ്ടു എന്നു ചോദിപ്പാന് പറഞ്ഞു.

24. So Shim'on Kefa motioned to him and said, 'Ask which one he's talking about.'

25. അവന് യേശുവിന്റെ നെഞ്ചോടു ചാഞ്ഞുകര്ത്താവേ, അതു ആര് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

25. Leaning against Yeshua's chest, he asked Yeshua, 'Lord, who is it?'

26. ഞാന് അപ്പഖണ്ഡംമുക്കി കൊടുക്കുന്നവന് തന്നേ എന്നു യേശു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു; ഖണ്ഡം മുക്കി ശിമോന് ഈസ്കര്യ്യോത്താവിന്റെ മകനായ യൂദെക്കു കൊടുത്തു.

26. Yeshua answered, 'It's the one to whom I give this piece of [matzah] after I dip it in the dish.' So he dipped the piece of [matzah] and gave it to Y'hudah Ben-Shim'on from K'riot.

27. ഖണ്ഡം വാങ്ങിയ ഉടനെ സാത്താന് അവനില് കടന്നു; യേശു അവനോടുനീ ചെയ്യുന്നതു വേഗത്തില് ചെയ്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. As soon as Y'hudah took the piece of [matzah], the Adversary went into him. 'What you are doing, do quickly!' Yeshua said to him.

28. എന്നാല് ഇതു ഇന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞുവെന്നു പന്തിയില് ഇരുന്നവരില് ആരും അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

28. But no one at the table understood why he had said this to him.

29. പണസ്സഞ്ചി യൂദയുടെ പക്കല് ആകയാല് പെരുനാളിന്നു വേണ്ടുന്നതു മേടിപ്പാനോ ദരിദ്രര്ക്കും വല്ലതും കൊടുപ്പാനോ യേശു അവനോടു കല്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ചിലര്ക്കും തോന്നി.

29. Some thought that since Y'hudah was in charge of the common purse, Yeshua was telling him, 'Buy what we need for the festival,' or telling him to give something to the poor.

30. ഖണ്ഡം വാങ്ങിയ ഉടനെ അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റുപോയി, അപ്പോള് രാത്രി ആയിരുന്നു.

30. As soon as he had taken the piece of [matzah], Y'hudah went out, and it was night.

31. അവന് പോയശേഷം യേശു പറഞ്ഞതുഇപ്പോള് മനുഷ്യപുത്രന് മഹത്വപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; ദൈവവും അവനില് മഹത്വപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു;

31. After Y'hudah had left, Yeshua said, 'Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.

32. ദൈവം അവനില് മഹത്വപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് ദൈവം അവനെ തന്നില് തന്നേ മഹത്വപ്പെടുത്തും; ക്ഷണത്തില് അവനെ മഹത്വപ്പെടുത്തും.

32. If the Son has glorified God, God will himself glorify the Son, and will do so without delay.

33. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളേ, ഞാന് ഇനി കുറഞ്ഞോന്നു മാത്രം നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കും; നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ അന്വേഷിക്കും; ഞാന് പോകുന്ന ഇടത്തു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു വരുവാന് കഴികയില്ല എന്നു ഞാന് യെഹൂദന്മാരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ഇന്നു നിങ്ങളോടും പറയുന്നു.

33. Little children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and, as I said to the Judeans, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' now I say it to you as well.

34. നിങ്ങള് തമ്മില് തമ്മില് സ്നേഹിക്കേണം എന്നു പുതിയോരു കല്പന ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു തരുന്നു; ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ സ്നേഹിച്ചതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളും തമ്മില് തമ്മില് സ്നേഹിക്കേണം എന്നു തന്നേ.

34. 'I am giving you a new command: that you keep on loving each other. In the same way that I have loved you, you are also to keep on loving each other.

35. നിങ്ങള്ക്കു തമ്മില് തമ്മില് സ്നേഹം ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് നിങ്ങള് എന്റെ ശീഷ്യന്മാര് എന്നു എല്ലാവരും അറിയും.

35. Everyone will know that you are my [talmidim] by the fact that you have love for each other.'

36. ശിമോന് പത്രൊസ് അവനോടുകര്ത്താവേ, നീ എവിടെ പോകന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഞാന് പോകുന്ന ഇടത്തേക്കു നിനക്കു ഇപ്പോള് എന്നെ അനുഗമിപ്പാന് കഴികയില്ല; പിന്നെത്തേതില് നീ എന്നെ അനുഗമിക്കും എന്നു യേശു അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

36. Shim'on Kefa said to him, 'Lord, where are you going?' Yeshua answered, 'Where I am going, you cannot follow me now; but you will follow later.'

37. പത്രൊസ് അവനോടുകര്ത്താവേ, ഇപ്പോള് എനിക്കു നിന്നെ അനുഗമിപ്പാന് കഴിയാത്തതു എന്തു? ഞാന് എന്റെ ജീവനെ നിനക്കു വേണ്ടി വെച്ചുകളയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

37. Lord,' Kefa said to him, 'why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!'

38. അതിന്നു യേശുനിന്റെ ജീവനെ എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി വെച്ചുകളയുമോ? ആമേന് , ആമേന് , ഞാന് നിന്നോടു പറയുന്നുനീ മൂന്നു പ്രവശ്യം എന്നെ തള്ളിപ്പറയുവോളം കോഴി ക്കുകുകയില്ല എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

38. Yeshua answered, 'You will lay down your life for me? Yes, indeed! I tell you, before the rooster crows you will disown me three times.
