1. മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു എടുക്കുന്ന ഏതു മഹാപുരോഹിതനും പാപങ്ങള്ക്കായി വഴിപാടും യാഗവും അര്പ്പിപ്പാന് ദൈവകാര്യ്യത്തില് മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും വേണ്ടി നിയമിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

1. For euery hye prest that is taken fro amoge men, is ordeyned for men in thinges pertayninge to God, to offer giftes and sacrifices for synne:

2. താനും ബലഹീനത പൂണ്ടവനാകയാല് അറിവില്ലാത്തവരോടും വഴി തെറ്റിപ്പോകുന്നവരോടും സഹതാപം കാണിപ്പാന് കഴിയുന്നവനും

2. which can haue copassion on the ignoraunt, and on them that are out of the waye, for so moch as he himselfe also is compased aboute with infirmyte.

3. ബലഹീനതനിമിത്തം ജനത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി എന്നപോലെ തനിക്കു വേണ്ടിയും പാപയാഗം അര്പ്പിക്കേണ്ടിയവനും ആകുന്നു.

3. Therfore is he bounde to offer for synnes, as well for him selfe as for ye people.

4. എന്നാല് അഹരോനെപ്പോലെ ദൈവം വിളിക്കുന്നവനല്ലാതെ ആരും ആ സ്ഥാനം സ്വതവെ എടുക്കുന്നില്ല.

4. And noma taketh ye honoure vnto himselfe, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

5. അവ്വണ്ണം ക്രിസ്തുവും മഹാപുരോഹിതന് ആകുവാനുള്ള മഹത്വം സ്വതവെ എടുത്തിട്ടില്ല; “നീ എന്റെ പുത്രന് ; ഇന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു”എന്നു അവനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തവന് അവന്നു കൊടുത്തതത്രേ.

5. Euen so Christ glorified not himselfe to be made hye prest, but he yt sayde vnto him: Thou art my sonne, this daye haue I begotten the.

6. അങ്ങനെ മറ്റൊരേടത്തും“നീ മല്ക്കീസേദെക്കിന്റെ ക്രമപ്രകാരം എന്നേക്കും ഒരു പുരോഹിതന് ” എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

6. As he sayeth also in another place: Thou art a prest for euer after ye order of Melchisedech.

7. ക്രിസ്തു തന്റെ ഐഹിക ജീവകാലത്തു തന്നേ മരണത്തില്നിന്നു രക്ഷിപ്പാന് കഴിയുന്നവനോടു ഉറെച്ച നിലവിളിയോടും കണ്ണുനീരോടുംകൂടെ അപേക്ഷയും അഭയയാചനയും കഴിക്കയും ഭയഭക്തി നിമിത്തം ഉത്തരം ലഭിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

7. And in ye dayes of his fleshe, he offred vp prayers & supplicacions, wt stroge cryenge & teares vnto him yt was able to saue him fro death: & was herde also, because he had God in honoure.

8. പുത്രന് എങ്കിലും താന് അനുഭവിച്ച കഷ്ടങ്ങളാല് അനുസരണം പഠിച്ചു തികഞ്ഞവനായി

8. And though he was Gods sonne, yet lerned he obedience, by those thinges which he suffred.

9. തന്നെ അനുസരിക്കുന്ന ഏവര്ക്കും നിത്യരക്ഷയുടെ കാരണഭൂതനായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

9. And he beynge made perfecte, became the cause of euerlastinge saluacio, vnto all the yt obeye him,

10. മല്ക്കീസേദെക്കിന്റെ ക്രമപ്രകാരം മഹാപുരോഹിതന് എന്നുള്ള നാമം ദൈവത്താല് ലഭിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. and is called of God an hye prest after the order of Melchisedech.

11. ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വളരെ പറവാനുണ്ടു; എങ്കിലും നിങ്ങള് കേള്പ്പാന് മാന്ദ്യമുള്ളവരായി തീര്ന്നതുകൊണ്ടു തെളിയിച്ചുതരുവാന് വിഷമം.

11. Wherof we haue many thinges to saye, which are harde to be vttered, because ye are dull of hearynge.

12. കാലം നോക്കിയാല് ഇപ്പോള് ഉപദേഷ്ടാക്കന്മാര് ആയിരിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടുകളുടെ ആദ്യപാഠങ്ങളെ തന്നേ വീണ്ടും ഉപദേശിച്ചുതരുവാന് ആവശ്യമായിരിക്കുന്നു; കട്ടിയായുള്ള ആഹാരമല്ല, പാലത്രേ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ആവശ്യമെന്നു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

12. For where as concernynge the tyme ye ought to be teachers, yet haue ye nede agayne, yt we teach you the first preceptes of the worde of God: and are become soch as haue nede of mylke, and not stronge meate.

13. പാല് കുടിക്കുന്നവന് എല്ലാം നീതിയുടെ വചനത്തില് പരിചയമില്ലാത്തവനത്രേ; അവന് ശിശുവല്ലോ.

13. For euery one that is fed yet with mylte, is vnexperte in the worde of righteousnes, for he is but a babe.

14. കട്ടിയായുള്ള ആഹാരം നന്മതിന്മകളെ തിരിച്ചറിവാന് തഴക്കത്താല് അഭ്യസിച്ച ഇന്ദ്രിയങ്ങളുള്ളവരായി പ്രായം തികഞ്ഞവര്ക്കേ പറ്റുകയുള്ളു.

14. But stronge meate belongeth vnto them yt are perfecte, which thorow custome haue their wyttes exercysed to iudge both good and euell.
