1. മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു എടുക്കുന്ന ഏതു മഹാപുരോഹിതനും പാപങ്ങള്ക്കായി വഴിപാടും യാഗവും അര്പ്പിപ്പാന് ദൈവകാര്യ്യത്തില് മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും വേണ്ടി നിയമിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

1. For every high priest that is taken from among men, is ordained for men, in things pertaining to God: to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins:

2. താനും ബലഹീനത പൂണ്ടവനാകയാല് അറിവില്ലാത്തവരോടും വഴി തെറ്റിപ്പോകുന്നവരോടും സഹതാപം കാണിപ്പാന് കഴിയുന്നവനും

2. which can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the high way, because that he himself also is compassed with infirmity:

3. ബലഹീനതനിമിത്തം ജനത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി എന്നപോലെ തനിക്കു വേണ്ടിയും പാപയാഗം അര്പ്പിക്കേണ്ടിയവനും ആകുന്നു.

3. For the which infirmities sake, he is bound (bond) to offer for sins, as well for his own part, as for the peoples.

4. എന്നാല് അഹരോനെപ്പോലെ ദൈവം വിളിക്കുന്നവനല്ലാതെ ആരും ആ സ്ഥാനം സ്വതവെ എടുക്കുന്നില്ല.

4. (And) No man taketh honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

5. അവ്വണ്ണം ക്രിസ്തുവും മഹാപുരോഹിതന് ആകുവാനുള്ള മഹത്വം സ്വതവെ എടുത്തിട്ടില്ല; “നീ എന്റെ പുത്രന് ; ഇന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു”എന്നു അവനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തവന് അവന്നു കൊടുത്തതത്രേ.

5. Even so likewise Christ honored not himself, that he might be the high priest: but he glorified him that said unto him:(Christ glorified not him self, to be made the hye prest: but he that said unto him) thou art my son, this day begat I thee.(have I begotten thee)

6. അങ്ങനെ മറ്റൊരേടത്തും“നീ മല്ക്കീസേദെക്കിന്റെ ക്രമപ്രകാരം എന്നേക്കും ഒരു പുരോഹിതന് ” എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

6. As he also in another place speaketh:(sayeth) Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedech.

7. ക്രിസ്തു തന്റെ ഐഹിക ജീവകാലത്തു തന്നേ മരണത്തില്നിന്നു രക്ഷിപ്പാന് കഴിയുന്നവനോടു ഉറെച്ച നിലവിളിയോടും കണ്ണുനീരോടുംകൂടെ അപേക്ഷയും അഭയയാചനയും കഴിക്കയും ഭയഭക്തി നിമിത്തം ഉത്തരം ലഭിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

7. Which in the days of his flesh, did offer up prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death: and was also heard, be cause he had God in reverence.(honour)(because of his godliness.)

8. പുത്രന് എങ്കിലും താന് അനുഭവിച്ച കഷ്ടങ്ങളാല് അനുസരണം പഠിച്ചു തികഞ്ഞവനായി

8. And though he were God's son,(sonne of God) yet learned he obedience, by those things which he suffered,

9. തന്നെ അനുസരിക്കുന്ന ഏവര്ക്കും നിത്യരക്ഷയുടെ കാരണഭൂതനായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

9. and was made perfect, and the cause of eternal(everlasting) health(salvation) unto all them that obey him:

10. മല്ക്കീസേദെക്കിന്റെ ക്രമപ്രകാരം മഹാപുരോഹിതന് എന്നുള്ള നാമം ദൈവത്താല് ലഭിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. and is called of God the(an) high priest,(hye priest) after the order of Melchisedech.

11. ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വളരെ പറവാനുണ്ടു; എങ്കിലും നിങ്ങള് കേള്പ്പാന് മാന്ദ്യമുള്ളവരായി തീര്ന്നതുകൊണ്ടു തെളിയിച്ചുതരുവാന് വിഷമം.

11. Whereof we have many things to say which are hard to be uttered: because ye are dull of hearing.

12. കാലം നോക്കിയാല് ഇപ്പോള് ഉപദേഷ്ടാക്കന്മാര് ആയിരിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടുകളുടെ ആദ്യപാഠങ്ങളെ തന്നേ വീണ്ടും ഉപദേശിച്ചുതരുവാന് ആവശ്യമായിരിക്കുന്നു; കട്ടിയായുള്ള ആഹാരമല്ല, പാലത്രേ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ആവശ്യമെന്നു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

12. For when as concerning the time, ye ought to be teachers, yet have ye need again that we teach you the first principles(precepts) of the word of God: and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat:

13. പാല് കുടിക്കുന്നവന് എല്ലാം നീതിയുടെ വചനത്തില് പരിചയമില്ലാത്തവനത്രേ; അവന് ശിശുവല്ലോ.

13. For every man that is fed with milk is inexpert in the word of righteousness: For he is but a babe.

14. കട്ടിയായുള്ള ആഹാരം നന്മതിന്മകളെ തിരിച്ചറിവാന് തഴക്കത്താല് അഭ്യസിച്ച ഇന്ദ്രിയങ്ങളുള്ളവരായി പ്രായം തികഞ്ഞവര്ക്കേ പറ്റുകയുള്ളു.

14. But strong meat belongeth to them that are perfect, which thorow custom have their wits exercised, to judge both good and evil also.
