1. അനന്തരം ശൌല് തന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനോടും സകല ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടും ദാവീദിനെ കൊല്ലേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

1. Saul spake to Ionatha his sonne, and to all his seruauntes, that they should kill Dauid.

2. എങ്കിലും ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാന്നു ദാവീദിനോടു വളരെ ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടുഎന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശൌല് നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു; ആകയാല് നീ രാവിലെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു ഗൂഢമായോരു സ്ഥലത്തു ഒളിച്ചുപാര്ക്ക.

2. But Ionatha Sauls sonne had a great fauour to Dauid, & Ionathan tolde Dauid, saying, Saul my father goeth about to slay thee: Nowe therfore I pray thee take heede to thy selfe vntyll the mornyng, and abyde in some secrete place, and hyde thy selfe:

3. ഞാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു നീ ഇരിക്കുന്ന വയലില് എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു എന്റെ അപ്പനോടു സംസാരിക്കും; ഞാന് ഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതു നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And I wyll go out, and stande by my father in the fielde where thou art, and wyll commune with my father of thee, and whatsoeuer I see, I wyll tell thee.

4. അങ്ങനെ യോനാഥാന് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശൌലിനോടു ദാവീദിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ഗുണമായി സംസാരിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞതുരാജാവു തന്റെ ഭൃത്യനായ ദാവീദിനോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്യരുതേ; അവന് നിന്നോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല; അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികള് നിനക്കു ഏറ്റവും ഗുണകരമായിരുന്നതേയുള്ളു.

4. And Ionathan spake good of Dauid vnto Saul his father, and sayde vnto him: Let not the king sinne against his seruaunt, against Dauid: for he hath not sinned against thee, and his workes haue ben to theewarde very good.

5. അവന് തന്റെ ജീവനെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടല്ലോ ആ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ സംഹരിക്കയും അങ്ങനെ യഹോവ എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേലിന്നും വലിയോരു രക്ഷവരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തതു; നീ അതു കണ്ടു സന്തോഷിച്ചു. ആകയാല് നീ വെറുതെ ദാവീദിനെ കൊന്നു കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത രക്തം ചൊരിഞ്ഞു പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

5. For he dyd put his life in his hande, and slue the Philistine, and the Lorde brought to passe a great health for all Israel: Thou sawest it, and thou reioycedst: Wherfore then wilt thou sinne against innocent blood, and slay Dauid without a cause?

6. യോനാഥാന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടുയഹോവയാണ അവനെ കൊല്ലുകയില്ല എന്നു ശൌല് സത്യം ചെയ്തു.

6. And Saul hearkened vnto the voyce of Ionathan, and Saul sware, as the Lorde lyueth he shall not dye.

7. പിന്നെ യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനെ വിളിച്ചു കാര്യമെല്ലാം അറിയിച്ചു. യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനെ ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവന് മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ അവന്റെ സന്നിധിയില്നില്ക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

7. And Ionathan called Dauid, & Ionathan shewed hym all those wordes: & Ionathan brought Dauid to Saul, & he was in his presence as in tymes past.

8. പിന്നെയും യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടായാറെ ദാവീദ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു പടവെട്ടി അവരെ കഠിനമായി തോല്പിച്ചു. അവര് അവന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടി.

8. And the warre began againe, and Dauid went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slue them with a great slaughter, and they fled from hym.

9. യഹോവയുടെ പക്കല്നിന്നു ദുരാത്മാവു പിന്നെയും ശൌലിന്റെമേല് വന്നു; അവന് കയ്യില് കുന്തവും പിടിച്ചു തന്റെ അരമനയില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; ദാവീദ് കിന്നരം വായിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

9. And the euyl spirite of the Lorde was vpon Saul as he sate in his house, hauing a iauelin in his hand: And Dauid played with his hand.

10. അപ്പോള് ശൌല് ദാവീദിനെ കുന്തംകൊണ്ടു ചുവരോടുചേര്ത്തു കുത്തുവാന് നോക്കി; അവനോ ശൌലിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു മാറിക്കളഞ്ഞു. കുന്തം ചുവരില് തറെച്ചു; ദാവീദ് ആ രാത്രിയില്തന്നേ ഔടിപ്പോയി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു.

10. And Saul entended to smyte Dauid to the wall with the iauelyn: But he ryd him selfe out of Sauls presence, as he smote the speare into the walle: And Dauid fled & was saued the same night.

11. ദാവീദിനെ കാത്തുനിന്നു രാവിലെ കൊന്നുകളയേണ്ടതിന്നു ശൌല് അവന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ മീഖള് അവനോടുഈ രാത്രിയില് നിന്റെ ജീവനെ രക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടില്ലെങ്കില് നാളെ നിന്നെ കൊന്നുപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Saul also sent messengers vnto Dauids house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: And Michol Dauids wyfe tolde it him, saying: If thou saue not thy selfe this night, to morowe thou shalt be slayne.

12. അങ്ങനെ മീഖള് ദാവീദിനെ കിളിവാതില്കൂടി ഇറക്കിവിട്ടു; അവന് ഔടിപ്പോയി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു.

12. And so Michol let Dauid downe through a windowe: and he went and fled, and was saued.

13. മീഖള് ഒരു ബിംബം എടുത്തു കട്ടിലിന്മേല് കിടത്തി, അതിന്റെ തലെക്കു കോലാട്ടുരോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള മൂടിയും ഇട്ടു ഒരു വസ്ത്രംകൊണ്ടു പുതപ്പിച്ചു.

13. And Michol toke an image, and layde it in the bed, & put a pillowe stuffed with goates heere vnder the head of it, and couered it with a cloth.

14. ദാവീദിനെ പിടിപ്പാന് ശൌല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് ദീനമായി കിടക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവള് പറഞ്ഞു.

14. And when Saul sent messengers to fetche Dauid, she said, he is sicke.

15. എന്നാറെ ശൌല്ഞാന് അവനെ കൊല്ലേണ്ടതിന്നു കിടക്കയോടെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

15. And Saul sent the messengers againe to see Dauid, saying: Bring him to me bed and all, that I may slay him.

16. ദാവീദിനെ ചെന്നു നോക്കുവാന് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു. ദൂതന്മാര് ചെന്നപ്പോള് കട്ടിലിന്മേല് ഒരു ബിംബം തലെക്കു കോലാട്ടുരോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഒരു മൂടിയുമായി കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

16. And when the messengers were come in, behold there lay an image in the bed, with a pillowe of goates heere vnder the head of it.

17. എന്നാറെ ശൌല് മീഖളിനോടുനീ ഇങ്ങനെ എന്നെ ചതിക്കയും എന്റെ ശത്രു ചാടിപ്പോകുവാന് അവനെ വിട്ടയക്കയും ചെയ്തതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഎന്നെ വിട്ടയക്ക; അല്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് നിന്നെ കൊല്ലും എന്നു അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു മീഖള് ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. And Saul sayde vnto Michol: Why hast thou mocked me so, and sent away mine enemie, that he is escaped? Michol aunswered Saul: For he sayd vnto me, let me go, or els I will kill thee.

18. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ഔടിപ്പോയി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു, രാമയില് ശമൂവേലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു ശൌല് തന്നോടു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും അവനോടു അറിയിച്ചു. പിന്നെ അവനും ശമൂവേലും പുറപ്പെട്ടു നയ്യോത്തില് ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു.

18. And so Dauid fled, and escaped, & came to Samuel to Rama, and tolde him all that Saul had done to him: And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

19. അനന്തരം ദാവീദ് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തില് ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ശൌലിന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടി.

19. And one tolde Saul, saying: Beholde, Dauid is at Naioth in Rama.

20. ശൌല് ദാവീദിനെ പിടിപ്പാന് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവര് പ്രവാചകസംഘം പ്രവചിക്കുന്നതും ശമൂവേല് അവരുടെ തലവനായിരിക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടപ്പോള് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു ശൌലിന്റെ ദൂതന്മാരുടെ മേലും വന്നു, അവരും പ്രവചിച്ചു.

20. And Saul sent messengers to fet Dauid: And when they sawe a company of prophetes prophecying, & Samuel standing as appoynted ouer them, the spirite of God fell vpon the messengers of Saul, and they prophecied to.

21. ശൌല് അതു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് വേറെ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവരും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ പ്രവചിച്ചു. ശൌല് പിന്നെയും മൂന്നാം പ്രാവശ്യം ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവരും പ്രവചിച്ചു.

21. And when it was tolde Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophecied lykewyse. And Saul sent messengers yet againe the third time, and they prophecied also.

22. പിന്നെ അവന് തന്നേ രാമയിലേക്കു പോയി, സേക്ക്കുവിലെ വലിയ കിണറ്റിങ്കല് എത്തിശമൂവേലും ദാവീദും എവിടെയാകുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അവര് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തില് ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഒരുത്തന് പറഞ്ഞു.

22. Then went he him selfe to Rama, and came to a great well that is in Sechu, and he asked and sayde: Where are Samuel & Dauid? And one sayd: Beholde, they be at Naioth in Rama.

23. അങ്ങനെ അവന് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തിന്നു ചെന്നു; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു അവന്റെമേലും വന്നു; അവന് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തില് എത്തുംവരെ പ്രവചിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു നടന്നു.

23. And he went thyther euen to Naioth in Rama, and the spirite of God came vpon him also, and he went prophecying vntill he came to Naioth in Rama.

24. അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം ഉരിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ പ്രവചിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അന്നു രാപകല് മുഴുവനും നഗ്നനായി കിടന്നു. ആകയാല് ശൌലും ഉണ്ടോ പ്രവാചകഗണത്തില് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

24. And he stript of his clothes & prophecied before Samuel in lyke maner, and fell naked al that day and all that night: And therof it is that they say, Is Saul also among the prophetes?
