1. Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:

2. ജ്ഞാനിയായവന് വ്യര്ത്ഥജ്ഞാനം പ്രസ്താവിക്കുമോ? അവന് കിഴക്കന് കാറ്റുകൊണ്ടു വയറുനിറെക്കുമോ?

2. 'A wise man wouldn't answer with such empty talk! You are nothing but a windbag.

3. അവന് പ്രയോജനമില്ലാത്ത വാക്കുകളാലും ഉപകാരമില്ലാത്ത മൊഴികളാലും തര്ക്കിക്കുമോ?

3. The wise don't engage in empty chatter. What good are such words?

4. നീ ഭക്തി വെടിഞ്ഞു ദൈവസന്നിധിയിലെ ധ്യാനം മുടക്കിക്കളയുന്നു.

4. Have you no fear of God, no reverence for him?

5. നിന്റെ അകൃത്യം നിന്റെ വായെ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഉപായികളുടെ നാവു നീ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

5. Your sins are telling your mouth what to say. Your words are based on clever deception.

6. ഞാനല്ല, നിന്റെ സ്വന്തവായ് നിന്നെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങള് തന്നേ നിന്റെ നേരെ സാക്ഷീകരിക്കുന്നു.

6. Your own mouth condemns you, not I. Your own lips testify against you.

7. നീയോ ആദ്യം ജനിച്ച മനുഷ്യന് ? ഗിരികള്ക്കും മുമ്പെ നീ പിറന്നുവോ?

7. 'Were you the first person ever born? Were you born before the hills were made?

8. നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മന്ത്രിസഭയില് കൂടീട്ടുണ്ടോ? ജഞാനത്തെ നീ കുത്തക പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവോ?

8. Were you listening at God's secret council? Do you have a monopoly on wisdom?

9. ഞങ്ങള് അറിയാത്തതായി നീ എന്തു അറിയുന്നു? ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വശം ഇല്ലാത്തതായി എന്തൊന്നു നീ ഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു?

9. What do you know that we don't? What do you understand that we do not?

10. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് നരെച്ചവരും വൃദ്ധന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു; നിന്റെ അപ്പനെക്കാള് പ്രായം ചെന്നവര് തന്നേ.

10. On our side are aged, gray-haired men much older than your father!

11. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആശ്വാസങ്ങളും സ്വന്തമായി പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്ന വാക്കും നിനക്കു പോരയോ?

11. 'Is God's comfort too little for you? Is his gentle word not enough?

12. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം നിന്നെ പതറിക്കുന്നതെന്തു? നീ കണ്ണു ഉരുട്ടുന്നതെന്തു?

12. What has taken away your reason? What has weakened your vision,

13. നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചീറുകയും നിന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു മൊഴികളെ പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

13. that you turn against God and say all these evil things?

14. മര്ത്യന് ശുദ്ധിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ? സ്ത്രീ പ്രസവിച്ചവന് നീതിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

14. Can any mortal be pure? Can anyone born of a woman be just?

15. തന്റെ വിശുദ്ധന്മാരിലും അവന്നു വിശ്വാസമില്ലല്ലോ; സ്വര്ഗ്ഗവും തൃക്കണ്ണിന്നു നിര്മ്മലമല്ല.

15. Look, God does not even trust the angels. Even the heavens are not absolutely pure in his sight.

16. പിന്നെ മ്ളേച്ഛതയും വഷളത്വവുമുള്ളവനായി വെള്ളംപോലെ അകൃത്യം കുടിക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യന് എങ്ങനെ?

16. How much less pure is a corrupt and sinful person with a thirst for wickedness!

17. ഞാന് നിന്നെ ഉപദേശിക്കാം, കേട്ടുകൊള്ക; ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളതു വിവരിച്ചുപറയാം.

17. 'If you will listen, I will show you. I will answer you from my own experience.

18. ജ്ഞാനികള് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു കേള്ക്കയും മറെച്ചുവെക്കാതെ അറിയിക്കയും ചെയ്തതു തന്നേ.

18. And it is confirmed by the reports of wise men who have heard the same thing from their fathers--

19. അവര്ക്കുംമാത്രമല്ലോ ദേശം നല്കിയിരുന്നതു; അന്യന് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് കടക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.

19. from those to whom the land was given long before any foreigners arrived.

20. ദുഷ്ടന് ജീവപര്യന്തം അതിവേദനയോടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; നിഷ്ഠൂരന്നു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ആണ്ടുകള് തികയുവോളം തന്നേ.

20. 'The wicked writhe in pain throughout their lives. Years of trouble are stored up for the ruthless.

21. ഘോരനാദം അവന്റെ ചെവിയില് മുഴങ്ങുന്നു; സുഖമായിരിക്കയില് കവര്ച്ചക്കാരന് അവന്റെ നേരെ വരുന്നു.

21. The sound of terror rings in their ears, and even on good days they fear the attack of the destroyer.

22. അന്ധകാരത്തില്നിന്നു മടങ്ങിവരുമെന്നു അവന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നില്ല; അവന് വാളിന്നിരയായി നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. They dare not go out into the darkness for fear they will be murdered.

23. അവന് അപ്പം തെണ്ടിനടക്കുന്നു; അതു എവിടെ കിട്ടും? അനര്ത്ഥദിവസം തനിക്കു അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന് അറിയുന്നു.

23. They wander around, saying, 'Where can I find bread?' They know their day of destruction is near.

24. കഷ്ടവും വ്യാകുലവും അവനെ അരട്ടുന്നു; പടെക്കൊരുങ്ങിയ രാജാവെന്നപോലെ അവനെ ആക്രമിക്കുന്നു.

24. That dark day terrifies them. They live in distress and anguish, like a king preparing for battle.

25. അവന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി കൈ നീട്ടി, സര്വ്വശക്തനോടു ധിക്കാരം കാട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ.

25. For they shake their fists at God, defying the Almighty.

26. തന്റെ പരിചകളുടെ തുടിച്ച മുഴകളോടുകൂടെ അവന് ശാഠ്യംകാണിച്ചു അവന്റെ നേരെ പാഞ്ഞുചെല്ലുന്നു.

26. Holding their strong shields, they defiantly charge against him.

27. അവന് തന്റെ മുഖത്തെ മേദസ്സുകൊണ്ടു മൂടുന്നു; തന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തു കൊഴുപ്പു കൂട്ടുന്നു.

27. 'These wicked people are heavy and prosperous; their waists bulge with fat.

28. അവന് ശൂന്യനഗരങ്ങളിലും ആരും പാര്ക്കാതെ കല്കൂമ്പാരങ്ങളായിത്തീരുവാനുള്ള വീടുകളിലും പാര്ക്കുംന്നു.

28. But their cities will be ruined. They will live in abandoned houses that are ready to tumble down.

29. അവന് ധനവാനാകയില്ല; അവന്റെ സമ്പത്തു നിലനില്ക്കയില്ല; അവരുടെ വിളവു നിലത്തേക്കു കുലെച്ചുമറികയുമില്ല.

29. Their riches will not last, and their wealth will not endure. Their possessions will no longer spread across the horizon.

30. ഇരുളില്നിന്നു അവന് തെറ്റിപ്പോകയില്ല; അഗ്നിജ്വാല അവന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളെ ഉണക്കിക്കളയും; തിരുവായിലെ ശ്വാസംകൊണ്ടു അവന് കെട്ടുപോകും.

30. 'They will not escape the darkness. The burning sun will wither their shoots, and the breath of God will destroy them.

31. അവന് വ്യാജത്തില് ആശ്രയിക്കരുതു; അതു സ്വയവഞ്ചനയത്രേ; അവന്റെ പ്രതിഫലം വ്യാജം തന്നേ ആയിരിക്കും.

31. Let them no longer fool themselves by trusting in empty riches, for emptiness will be their only reward.

32. അവന്റെ ദിവസം വരുംമുമ്പെ അതു നിവൃത്തിയാകും; അവന്റെ പനമ്പട്ട പച്ചയായിരിക്കയില്ല.

32. Like trees, they will be cut down in the prime of life; their branches will never again be green.

33. മുന്തിരിവള്ളിപോലെ അവന് പിഞ്ചു ഉതിര്ക്കും; ഒലിവുവൃക്ഷംപോലെ പൂ പൊഴിക്കും.

33. They will be like a vine whose grapes are harvested too early, like an olive tree that loses its blossoms before the fruit can form.

34. വഷളന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടം വന്ധ്യത പ്രാപിക്കും; കൈക്കൂലിയുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങള് തീക്കിരയാകും.

34. For the godless are barren. Their homes, enriched through bribery, will burn.

35. അവര് കഷ്ടത്തെ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു അനര്ത്ഥത്തെ പ്രസവിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ ഉദരം വഞ്ചനയെ ഉരുവാക്കുന്നു.

35. They conceive trouble and give birth to evil. Their womb produces deceit.'
