1. അതിന്നു തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

1. Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

2. ജ്ഞാനിയായവന് വ്യര്ത്ഥജ്ഞാനം പ്രസ്താവിക്കുമോ? അവന് കിഴക്കന് കാറ്റുകൊണ്ടു വയറുനിറെക്കുമോ?

2. Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

3. അവന് പ്രയോജനമില്ലാത്ത വാക്കുകളാലും ഉപകാരമില്ലാത്ത മൊഴികളാലും തര്ക്കിക്കുമോ?

3. Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches which he can do no good?

4. നീ ഭക്തി വെടിഞ്ഞു ദൈവസന്നിധിയിലെ ധ്യാനം മുടക്കിക്കളയുന്നു.

4. Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.

5. നിന്റെ അകൃത്യം നിന്റെ വായെ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഉപായികളുടെ നാവു നീ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

5. For thy mouth uttereth thy iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.

6. ഞാനല്ല, നിന്റെ സ്വന്തവായ് നിന്നെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങള് തന്നേ നിന്റെ നേരെ സാക്ഷീകരിക്കുന്നു.

6. Thy own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thy own lips testify against thee.

7. നീയോ ആദ്യം ജനിച്ച മനുഷ്യന് ? ഗിരികള്ക്കും മുമ്പെ നീ പിറന്നുവോ?

7. [Art] thou the first man [that] was born? or wast thou made before the hills?

8. നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മന്ത്രിസഭയില് കൂടീട്ടുണ്ടോ? ജഞാനത്തെ നീ കുത്തക പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവോ?

8. Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou limit wisdom to thyself?

9. ഞങ്ങള് അറിയാത്തതായി നീ എന്തു അറിയുന്നു? ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വശം ഇല്ലാത്തതായി എന്തൊന്നു നീ ഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു?

9. What knowest thou, that we know not? [what] understandest thou, which [is] not in us?

10. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് നരെച്ചവരും വൃദ്ധന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു; നിന്റെ അപ്പനെക്കാള് പ്രായം ചെന്നവര് തന്നേ.

10. With us [are] both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.

11. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആശ്വാസങ്ങളും സ്വന്തമായി പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്ന വാക്കും നിനക്കു പോരയോ?

11. [Are] the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?

12. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം നിന്നെ പതറിക്കുന്നതെന്തു? നീ കണ്ണു ഉരുട്ടുന്നതെന്തു?

12. Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,

13. നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചീറുകയും നിന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു മൊഴികളെ പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

13. That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest [such] words go out of thy mouth?

14. മര്ത്യന് ശുദ്ധിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ? സ്ത്രീ പ്രസവിച്ചവന് നീതിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

14. What [is] man, that he should be clean? and [he who is] born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

15. തന്റെ വിശുദ്ധന്മാരിലും അവന്നു വിശ്വാസമില്ലല്ലോ; സ്വര്ഗ്ഗവും തൃക്കണ്ണിന്നു നിര്മ്മലമല്ല.

15. Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

16. പിന്നെ മ്ളേച്ഛതയും വഷളത്വവുമുള്ളവനായി വെള്ളംപോലെ അകൃത്യം കുടിക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യന് എങ്ങനെ?

16. How much more abominable and filthy [is] man, who drinketh iniquity like water?

17. ഞാന് നിന്നെ ഉപദേശിക്കാം, കേട്ടുകൊള്ക; ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളതു വിവരിച്ചുപറയാം.

17. I will show thee, hear me; and that [which] I have seen I will declare;

18. ജ്ഞാനികള് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു കേള്ക്കയും മറെച്ചുവെക്കാതെ അറിയിക്കയും ചെയ്തതു തന്നേ.

18. Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid [it]:

19. അവര്ക്കുംമാത്രമല്ലോ ദേശം നല്കിയിരുന്നതു; അന്യന് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് കടക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.

19. To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.

20. ദുഷ്ടന് ജീവപര്യന്തം അതിവേദനയോടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; നിഷ്ഠൂരന്നു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ആണ്ടുകള് തികയുവോളം തന്നേ.

20. The wicked man travaileth with pain all [his] days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.

21. ഘോരനാദം അവന്റെ ചെവിയില് മുഴങ്ങുന്നു; സുഖമായിരിക്കയില് കവര്ച്ചക്കാരന് അവന്റെ നേരെ വരുന്നു.

21. A dreadful sound [is] in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

22. അന്ധകാരത്തില്നിന്നു മടങ്ങിവരുമെന്നു അവന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നില്ല; അവന് വാളിന്നിരയായി നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for by the sword.

23. അവന് അപ്പം തെണ്ടിനടക്കുന്നു; അതു എവിടെ കിട്ടും? അനര്ത്ഥദിവസം തനിക്കു അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന് അറിയുന്നു.

23. He wandereth abroad for bread, [saying], Where [is it]? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

24. കഷ്ടവും വ്യാകുലവും അവനെ അരട്ടുന്നു; പടെക്കൊരുങ്ങിയ രാജാവെന്നപോലെ അവനെ ആക്രമിക്കുന്നു.

24. Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

25. അവന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി കൈ നീട്ടി, സര്വ്വശക്തനോടു ധിക്കാരം കാട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ.

25. For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.

26. തന്റെ പരിചകളുടെ തുടിച്ച മുഴകളോടുകൂടെ അവന് ശാഠ്യംകാണിച്ചു അവന്റെ നേരെ പാഞ്ഞുചെല്ലുന്നു.

26. He runneth upon him, [even] on [his] neck, upon his thick strong shield:

27. അവന് തന്റെ മുഖത്തെ മേദസ്സുകൊണ്ടു മൂടുന്നു; തന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തു കൊഴുപ്പു കൂട്ടുന്നു.

27. Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh [his] flanks heavy with fat.

28. അവന് ശൂന്യനഗരങ്ങളിലും ആരും പാര്ക്കാതെ കല്കൂമ്പാരങ്ങളായിത്തീരുവാനുള്ള വീടുകളിലും പാര്ക്കുംന്നു.

28. And he dwelleth in desolate cities, [and] in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.

29. അവന് ധനവാനാകയില്ല; അവന്റെ സമ്പത്തു നിലനില്ക്കയില്ല; അവരുടെ വിളവു നിലത്തേക്കു കുലെച്ചുമറികയുമില്ല.

29. He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection of it upon the earth.

30. ഇരുളില്നിന്നു അവന് തെറ്റിപ്പോകയില്ല; അഗ്നിജ്വാല അവന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളെ ഉണക്കിക്കളയും; തിരുവായിലെ ശ്വാസംകൊണ്ടു അവന് കെട്ടുപോകും.

30. He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

31. അവന് വ്യാജത്തില് ആശ്രയിക്കരുതു; അതു സ്വയവഞ്ചനയത്രേ; അവന്റെ പ്രതിഫലം വ്യാജം തന്നേ ആയിരിക്കും.

31. Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.

32. അവന്റെ ദിവസം വരുംമുമ്പെ അതു നിവൃത്തിയാകും; അവന്റെ പനമ്പട്ട പച്ചയായിരിക്കയില്ല.

32. It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

33. മുന്തിരിവള്ളിപോലെ അവന് പിഞ്ചു ഉതിര്ക്കും; ഒലിവുവൃക്ഷംപോലെ പൂ പൊഴിക്കും.

33. He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.

34. വഷളന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടം വന്ധ്യത പ്രാപിക്കും; കൈക്കൂലിയുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങള് തീക്കിരയാകും.

34. For the congregation of hypocrites [shall be] desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

35. അവര് കഷ്ടത്തെ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു അനര്ത്ഥത്തെ പ്രസവിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ ഉദരം വഞ്ചനയെ ഉരുവാക്കുന്നു.

35. They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their heart prepareth deceit.
