1. അതിന്നു തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

1. Forsothe Eliphat Themanytes answeride, and seide,

2. ജ്ഞാനിയായവന് വ്യര്ത്ഥജ്ഞാനം പ്രസ്താവിക്കുമോ? അവന് കിഴക്കന് കാറ്റുകൊണ്ടു വയറുനിറെക്കുമോ?

2. Whether a wise man schal answere, as spekynge ayens the wynd, and schal fille his stomac with brennyng, `that is, ire?

3. അവന് പ്രയോജനമില്ലാത്ത വാക്കുകളാലും ഉപകാരമില്ലാത്ത മൊഴികളാലും തര്ക്കിക്കുമോ?

3. For thou repreuest hym bi wordis, which is not lijk thee, and thou spekist that, that spedith not to thee.

4. നീ ഭക്തി വെടിഞ്ഞു ദൈവസന്നിധിയിലെ ധ്യാനം മുടക്കിക്കളയുന്നു.

4. As myche as is in thee, thou hast avoidid drede; and thou hast take awey preyeris bifor God.

5. നിന്റെ അകൃത്യം നിന്റെ വായെ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഉപായികളുടെ നാവു നീ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

5. For wickidnesse hath tauyt thi mouth, and thou suest the tunge of blasfemeris.

6. ഞാനല്ല, നിന്റെ സ്വന്തവായ് നിന്നെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങള് തന്നേ നിന്റെ നേരെ സാക്ഷീകരിക്കുന്നു.

6. Thi tunge, and not Y, schal condempne thee, and thi lippis schulen answere thee.

7. നീയോ ആദ്യം ജനിച്ച മനുഷ്യന് ? ഗിരികള്ക്കും മുമ്പെ നീ പിറന്നുവോ?

7. Whether thou art borun the firste man, and art formed bifor alle little hillis?

8. നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മന്ത്രിസഭയില് കൂടീട്ടുണ്ടോ? ജഞാനത്തെ നീ കുത്തക പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവോ?

8. Whether thou herdist the counsel of God, and his wisdom is lower than thou?

9. ഞങ്ങള് അറിയാത്തതായി നീ എന്തു അറിയുന്നു? ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വശം ഇല്ലാത്തതായി എന്തൊന്നു നീ ഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു?

9. What thing knowist thou, whiche we knowen not? What thing vndurstondist thou, whiche we witen not?

10. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് നരെച്ചവരും വൃദ്ധന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു; നിന്റെ അപ്പനെക്കാള് പ്രായം ചെന്നവര് തന്നേ.

10. Bothe wise men and elde, myche eldre than thi fadris, ben among vs.

11. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആശ്വാസങ്ങളും സ്വന്തമായി പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്ന വാക്കും നിനക്കു പോരയോ?

11. Whether it is greet, that God coumforte thee? But thi schrewid wordis forbeden this.

12. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം നിന്നെ പതറിക്കുന്നതെന്തു? നീ കണ്ണു ഉരുട്ടുന്നതെന്തു?

12. What reisith thin herte thee, and thou as thenkynge grete thingis hast iyen astonyed?

13. നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചീറുകയും നിന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു മൊഴികളെ പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

13. What bolneth thi spirit ayens God, that thou brynge forth of thi mouth siche wordis?

14. മര്ത്യന് ശുദ്ധിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ? സ്ത്രീ പ്രസവിച്ചവന് നീതിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

14. What is a man, that he be with out wem, and that he borun of a womman appere iust?

15. തന്റെ വിശുദ്ധന്മാരിലും അവന്നു വിശ്വാസമില്ലല്ലോ; സ്വര്ഗ്ഗവും തൃക്കണ്ണിന്നു നിര്മ്മലമല്ല.

15. Lo! noon among hise seyntis is vnchaungable, and heuenes ben not cleene in his siyt.

16. പിന്നെ മ്ളേച്ഛതയും വഷളത്വവുമുള്ളവനായി വെള്ളംപോലെ അകൃത്യം കുടിക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യന് എങ്ങനെ?

16. How myche more a man abhomynable and vnprofitable, that drynkith wickidnesse as water?

17. ഞാന് നിന്നെ ഉപദേശിക്കാം, കേട്ടുകൊള്ക; ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളതു വിവരിച്ചുപറയാം.

17. I schal schewe to thee, here thou me; Y schal telle to thee that, that Y siy.

18. ജ്ഞാനികള് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു കേള്ക്കയും മറെച്ചുവെക്കാതെ അറിയിക്കയും ചെയ്തതു തന്നേ.

18. Wise men knoulechen, and hiden not her fadris.

19. അവര്ക്കുംമാത്രമല്ലോ ദേശം നല്കിയിരുന്നതു; അന്യന് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് കടക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.

19. To whiche aloone the erthe is youun, and an alien schal not passe bi hem.

20. ദുഷ്ടന് ജീവപര്യന്തം അതിവേദനയോടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; നിഷ്ഠൂരന്നു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ആണ്ടുകള് തികയുവോളം തന്നേ.

20. A wickid man is proud in alle hise daies; and the noumbre of hise yeeris and of his tirauntrie is vncerteyn.

21. ഘോരനാദം അവന്റെ ചെവിയില് മുഴങ്ങുന്നു; സുഖമായിരിക്കയില് കവര്ച്ചക്കാരന് അവന്റെ നേരെ വരുന്നു.

21. The sown of drede is euere in hise eeris, and whanne pees is, he supposith euere tresouns.

22. അന്ധകാരത്തില്നിന്നു മടങ്ങിവരുമെന്നു അവന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നില്ല; അവന് വാളിന്നിരയായി നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. He bileueth not that he may turne ayen fro derknessis to liyt; and biholdith aboute on ech side a swerd.

23. അവന് അപ്പം തെണ്ടിനടക്കുന്നു; അതു എവിടെ കിട്ടും? അനര്ത്ഥദിവസം തനിക്കു അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന് അറിയുന്നു.

23. Whanne he stirith hym to seke breed, he woot, that the dai of derknessis is maad redi in his hond.

24. കഷ്ടവും വ്യാകുലവും അവനെ അരട്ടുന്നു; പടെക്കൊരുങ്ങിയ രാജാവെന്നപോലെ അവനെ ആക്രമിക്കുന്നു.

24. Tribulacioun schal make hym aferd, and angwisch schal cumpas hym, as a kyng which is maad redi to batel.

25. അവന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി കൈ നീട്ടി, സര്വ്വശക്തനോടു ധിക്കാരം കാട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ.

25. For he helde forth his hond ayens God, and he was maad strong ayens Almyyti God.

26. തന്റെ പരിചകളുടെ തുടിച്ച മുഴകളോടുകൂടെ അവന് ശാഠ്യംകാണിച്ചു അവന്റെ നേരെ പാഞ്ഞുചെല്ലുന്നു.

26. He ran with neck reisid ayens God, and he was armed with fat nol.

27. അവന് തന്റെ മുഖത്തെ മേദസ്സുകൊണ്ടു മൂടുന്നു; തന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തു കൊഴുപ്പു കൂട്ടുന്നു.

27. Fatnesse, that is, pride `comyng forth of temporal aboundaunce, hilide his face, `that is, the knowyng of vndurstondyng, and outward fatnesse hangith doun of his sidis.

28. അവന് ശൂന്യനഗരങ്ങളിലും ആരും പാര്ക്കാതെ കല്കൂമ്പാരങ്ങളായിത്തീരുവാനുള്ള വീടുകളിലും പാര്ക്കുംന്നു.

28. He schal dwelle in desolat citees, and in deseert, `ethir forsakun, housis, that ben turned in to biriels.

29. അവന് ധനവാനാകയില്ല; അവന്റെ സമ്പത്തു നിലനില്ക്കയില്ല; അവരുടെ വിളവു നിലത്തേക്കു കുലെച്ചുമറികയുമില്ല.

29. He schal not be maad riche, nether his catel schal dwelle stidefastli; nether he schal sende his roote in the erthe,

30. ഇരുളില്നിന്നു അവന് തെറ്റിപ്പോകയില്ല; അഗ്നിജ്വാല അവന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളെ ഉണക്കിക്കളയും; തിരുവായിലെ ശ്വാസംകൊണ്ടു അവന് കെട്ടുപോകും.

30. nether he schal go awei fro derknessis. Flawme schal make drie hise braunchis, and he schal be takun a wey bi the spirit of his mouth.

31. അവന് വ്യാജത്തില് ആശ്രയിക്കരുതു; അതു സ്വയവഞ്ചനയത്രേ; അവന്റെ പ്രതിഫലം വ്യാജം തന്നേ ആയിരിക്കും.

31. Bileue he not veynli disseyued bi errour, that he schal be ayenbouyt bi ony prijs.

32. അവന്റെ ദിവസം വരുംമുമ്പെ അതു നിവൃത്തിയാകും; അവന്റെ പനമ്പട്ട പച്ചയായിരിക്കയില്ല.

32. Bifor that hise daies ben fillid, he schal perische, and hise hondis schulen wexe drye;

33. മുന്തിരിവള്ളിപോലെ അവന് പിഞ്ചു ഉതിര്ക്കും; ഒലിവുവൃക്ഷംപോലെ പൂ പൊഴിക്കും.

33. he schal be hirt as a vyne in the firste flour of his grape, and as an olyue tre castinge awei his flour.

34. വഷളന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടം വന്ധ്യത പ്രാപിക്കും; കൈക്കൂലിയുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങള് തീക്കിരയാകും.

34. For the gaderyng togidere of an ipocrite is bareyn, and fier schal deuoure the tabernaclis of hem, that taken yiftis wilfuli.

35. അവര് കഷ്ടത്തെ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു അനര്ത്ഥത്തെ പ്രസവിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ ഉദരം വഞ്ചനയെ ഉരുവാക്കുന്നു.

35. He conseyuede sorewe, and childide wickidnesse, and his wombe makith redi tretcheries.
