1. അനന്തരം ഇയ്യോബ് വായി തുറന്നു തന്റെ ജന്മദിവസത്തെ ശപിച്ചു.

1. After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.

2. ഇയ്യോബ് പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

2. Job spoke out and said:

3. ഞാന് ജനിച്ച ദിവസവും ഒരു ആണ് ഉല്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ രാത്രിയും നശിച്ചുപോകട്ടെ.

3. Perish the day on which I was born, the night when they said, 'The child is a boy!'

4. ആ നാള് ഇരുണ്ടുപോകട്ടെ; മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം അതിനെ കടാക്ഷിക്കരുതേ; പ്രകാശം അതിന്മേല് ശോഭിക്കയുമരുതേ.

4. May that day be darkness: let not God above call for it, nor light shine upon it!

5. ഇരുളും അന്ധതമസ്സും അതിനെ സ്വാധീനമാക്കട്ടെ; ഒരു മേഘം അതിന്മേല് അമരട്ടെ; പകലിനെ ഇരുട്ടുന്നതൊക്കെയും അതിനെ പേടിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ.

5. May darkness and gloom claim it, clouds settle upon it, the blackness of night affright it!

6. ആ രാത്രിയെ കൂരിരുള് പിടിക്കട്ടെ; അതു ആണ്ടിന്റെ നാളുകളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; മാസങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തില് വരികയും അരുതു.

6. May obscurity seize that day; let it not occur among the days of the year, nor enter into the count of the months!

7. അതേ, ആ രാത്രി മച്ചിയായിരിക്കട്ടെ; ഉല്ലാസഘോഷം അതിലുണ്ടാകരുതു.

7. May that night be barren; let no joyful outcry greet it!

8. മഹാസര്പ്പത്തെ ഇളക്കുവാന് സമര്ത്ഥരായി ദിവസത്തെ ശപിക്കുന്നവര് അതിനെ ശപിക്കട്ടെ.

8. Let them curse it who curse the sea, the appointed disturbers of Leviathan!

9. അതിന്റെ സന്ധ്യാനക്ഷത്രങ്ങള് ഇരുണ്ടു പോകട്ടെ. അതു വെളിച്ചത്തിന്നു കാത്തിരുന്നു കിട്ടാതെ പോകട്ടെ; അതു ഉഷസ്സിന്റെ കണ്ണിമ ഒരിക്കലും കാണരുതു.

9. May the stars of its twilight be darkened; may it look for daylight, but have none, nor gaze on the eyes of the dawn,

10. അതു എനിക്കു ഗര്ഭദ്വാരം അടെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ; എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു കഷ്ടം മറെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ.

10. Because it kept not shut the doors of the womb to shield my eyes from trouble!

11. ഞാന് ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തില്വെച്ചു മരിക്കാഞ്ഞതെന്തു? ഉദരത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള് തന്നേ പ്രാണന് പോകാതിരുന്നതെന്തു?

11. Why did I not perish at birth, come forth from the womb and expire?

12. മുഴങ്കാല് എന്നെ ഏറ്റുകൊണ്ടതു എന്തിനു? എനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് മുല ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതെന്തിന്നു?

12. Wherefore did the knees receive me? or why did I suck at the breasts?

13. ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് കിടന്നു വിശ്രമിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഞാന് ഉറങ്ങി വിശ്രാന്തി പ്രാപിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

13. For then I should have lain down and been tranquil; had I slept, I should then have been at rest

14. തങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏകാന്തനിവാസങ്ങള് പണിത ഭൂരാജാക്കന്മാരോടും മന്ത്രിമാരോടും അഥവാ,

14. With kings and counselors of the earth who built where now there are ruins

15. കനകസമ്പന്നരായി സ്വഭവനങ്ങള് വെള്ളികൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചുവെച്ച പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും കൂടെ തന്നേ.

15. Or with princes who had gold and filled their houses with silver.

16. അല്ലെങ്കില്, ഗര്ഭം അലസിപ്പോയിട്ടു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ പിണ്ഡംപോലെയും വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത പിള്ളകളെപ്പോലെയും ഞാന് ഇല്ലാതെ പോകുമായിരുന്നു.

16. Or why was I not buried away like an untimely birth, like babes that have never seen the light?

17. അവിടെ ദുര്ജ്ജനം ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതെയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവിടെ ക്ഷീണിച്ചു പോയവര് വിശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.

17. There the wicked cease from troubling, there the weary are at rest.

18. അവിടെ ബദ്ധന്മാര് ഒരുപോലെ സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നു; പീഡകന്റെ ശബ്ദം അവര് കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. There the captives are at ease together, and hear not the voice of the slave driver.

19. ചെറിയവനും വലിയവനും അവിടെ ഒരുപോലെ; ദാസന്നു യജമാനന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു വിടുതല് കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. Small and great are there the same, and the servant is free from his master.

20. അരിഷ്ടനു പ്രകാശവും ദുഃഖിതന്മാര്ക്കും ജീവനും കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

20. Why is light given to the toilers, and life to the bitter in spirit?

21. അവര് മരണത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു, അതു വരുന്നില്ലതാനും; നിധിക്കായി ചെയ്യുന്നതിലുമധികം അവര് അതിന്നായി കുഴിക്കുന്നു.

21. They wait for death and it comes not; they search for it rather than for hidden treasures,

22. അവര് ശവകൂഴി കണ്ടാല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു ഘോഷിച്ചുല്ലസിക്കും

22. Rejoice in it exultingly, and are glad when they reach the grave:

23. വഴി മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷന്നും ദൈവം നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന്നും ജീവനെ കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

23. Men whose path is hidden from them, and whom God has hemmed in!

24. ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ എനിക്കു നെടുവീര്പ്പു വരുന്നു; എന്റെ ഞരക്കം വെള്ളംപോലെ ഒഴുകുന്നു.

24. For sighing comes more readily to me than food, and my groans well forth like water.

25. ഞാന് പേടിച്ചതു തന്നേ എനിക്കു നേരിട്ടു; ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതു എനിക്കു ഭവിച്ചു.

25. For what I fear overtakes me, and what I shrink from comes upon me.

26. ഞാന് സ്വസ്ഥനായില്ല, വിശ്രമിച്ചില്ല, ആശ്വസിച്ചതുമില്ല; പിന്നെയും അതിവേദന എടുക്കുന്നു.

26. I have no peace nor ease; I have no rest, for trouble comes!
