1. അനന്തരം ഇയ്യോബ് വായി തുറന്നു തന്റെ ജന്മദിവസത്തെ ശപിച്ചു.

1. After this Job opened his mouth and cursed the day he was born.

2. ഇയ്യോബ് പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

2. Job spoke up and said:

3. ഞാന് ജനിച്ച ദിവസവും ഒരു ആണ് ഉല്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ രാത്രിയും നശിച്ചുപോകട്ടെ.

3. 'Let the day on which I was born perish, and the night that said, 'A man has been conceived!'

4. ആ നാള് ഇരുണ്ടുപോകട്ടെ; മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം അതിനെ കടാക്ഷിക്കരുതേ; പ്രകാശം അതിന്മേല് ശോഭിക്കയുമരുതേ.

4. That day let it be darkness; let not God on high regard it, nor let light shine on it!

5. ഇരുളും അന്ധതമസ്സും അതിനെ സ്വാധീനമാക്കട്ടെ; ഒരു മേഘം അതിന്മേല് അമരട്ടെ; പകലിനെ ഇരുട്ടുന്നതൊക്കെയും അതിനെ പേടിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ.

5. Let darkness and the deepest shadow claim it; let a cloud settle on it; let whatever blackens the day terrify it!

6. ആ രാത്രിയെ കൂരിരുള് പിടിക്കട്ടെ; അതു ആണ്ടിന്റെ നാളുകളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; മാസങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തില് വരികയും അരുതു.

6. That night let darkness seize it; let it not be included among the days of the year; let it not enter among the number of the months!

7. അതേ, ആ രാത്രി മച്ചിയായിരിക്കട്ടെ; ഉല്ലാസഘോഷം അതിലുണ്ടാകരുതു.

7. Indeed, let that night be barren; let no shout of joy penetrate it!

8. മഹാസര്പ്പത്തെ ഇളക്കുവാന് സമര്ത്ഥരായി ദിവസത്തെ ശപിക്കുന്നവര് അതിനെ ശപിക്കട്ടെ.

8. Let those who curse the day curse it those who are prepared to rouse Leviathan.

9. അതിന്റെ സന്ധ്യാനക്ഷത്രങ്ങള് ഇരുണ്ടു പോകട്ടെ. അതു വെളിച്ചത്തിന്നു കാത്തിരുന്നു കിട്ടാതെ പോകട്ടെ; അതു ഉഷസ്സിന്റെ കണ്ണിമ ഒരിക്കലും കാണരുതു.

9. Let its morning stars be darkened; let it wait for daylight but find none, nor let it see the first rays of dawn,

10. അതു എനിക്കു ഗര്ഭദ്വാരം അടെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ; എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു കഷ്ടം മറെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ.

10. because it did not shut the doors of my mother's womb on me, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes!

11. ഞാന് ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തില്വെച്ചു മരിക്കാഞ്ഞതെന്തു? ഉദരത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള് തന്നേ പ്രാണന് പോകാതിരുന്നതെന്തു?

11. 'Why did I not die at birth, and why did I not expire as I came out of the womb?

12. മുഴങ്കാല് എന്നെ ഏറ്റുകൊണ്ടതു എന്തിനു? എനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് മുല ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതെന്തിന്നു?

12. Why did the knees welcome me, and why were there two breasts that I might nurse at them?

13. ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് കിടന്നു വിശ്രമിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഞാന് ഉറങ്ങി വിശ്രാന്തി പ്രാപിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

13. For now I would be lying down and would be quiet, I would be asleep and then at peace

14. തങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏകാന്തനിവാസങ്ങള് പണിത ഭൂരാജാക്കന്മാരോടും മന്ത്രിമാരോടും അഥവാ,

14. with kings and counselors of the earth who built for themselves places now desolate,

15. കനകസമ്പന്നരായി സ്വഭവനങ്ങള് വെള്ളികൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചുവെച്ച പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും കൂടെ തന്നേ.

15. or with princes who possessed gold, who filled their palaces with silver.

16. അല്ലെങ്കില്, ഗര്ഭം അലസിപ്പോയിട്ടു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ പിണ്ഡംപോലെയും വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത പിള്ളകളെപ്പോലെയും ഞാന് ഇല്ലാതെ പോകുമായിരുന്നു.

16. Or why was I not buried like a stillborn infant, like infants who have never seen the light?

17. അവിടെ ദുര്ജ്ജനം ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതെയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവിടെ ക്ഷീണിച്ചു പോയവര് വിശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.

17. There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary are at rest.

18. അവിടെ ബദ്ധന്മാര് ഒരുപോലെ സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നു; പീഡകന്റെ ശബ്ദം അവര് കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. There the prisoners relax together; they do not hear the voice of the oppressor.

19. ചെറിയവനും വലിയവനും അവിടെ ഒരുപോലെ; ദാസന്നു യജമാനന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു വിടുതല് കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. Small and great are there, and the slave is free from his master.

20. അരിഷ്ടനു പ്രകാശവും ദുഃഖിതന്മാര്ക്കും ജീവനും കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

20. 'Why does God give light to one who is in misery, and life to those whose soul is bitter,

21. അവര് മരണത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു, അതു വരുന്നില്ലതാനും; നിധിക്കായി ചെയ്യുന്നതിലുമധികം അവര് അതിന്നായി കുഴിക്കുന്നു.

21. to those who wait for death that does not come, and search for it more than for hidden treasures,

22. അവര് ശവകൂഴി കണ്ടാല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു ഘോഷിച്ചുല്ലസിക്കും

22. who rejoice even to jubilation, and are exultant when they find the grave?

23. വഴി മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷന്നും ദൈവം നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന്നും ജീവനെ കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

23. Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, and whom God has hedged in?

24. ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ എനിക്കു നെടുവീര്പ്പു വരുന്നു; എന്റെ ഞരക്കം വെള്ളംപോലെ ഒഴുകുന്നു.

24. For my sighing comes in place of my food, and my groanings flow forth like water.

25. ഞാന് പേടിച്ചതു തന്നേ എനിക്കു നേരിട്ടു; ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതു എനിക്കു ഭവിച്ചു.

25. For the very thing I dreaded has happened to me, and what I feared has come upon me.

26. ഞാന് സ്വസ്ഥനായില്ല, വിശ്രമിച്ചില്ല, ആശ്വസിച്ചതുമില്ല; പിന്നെയും അതിവേദന എടുക്കുന്നു.

26. I have no ease, I have no quietness; I cannot rest; turmoil has come upon me.'
