1. അയ്യോ, പൊന്നു മങ്ങിപ്പോയി, നിര്മ്മല തങ്കം മാറിപ്പോയി, വിശുദ്ധരത്നങ്ങള് സകലവീഥികളുടെയും തലെക്കല് ചൊരിഞ്ഞു കിടക്കുന്നു.

1. How the gold has tarnished, how the fine gold has changed! The sacred stones lie scattered at the corner of every street.

2. തങ്കത്തോടു തുല്യരായിരുന്ന സീയോന്റെ വിശിഷ്ടപുത്രന്മാരെ കുശവന്റെ പണിയായ മണ്പാത്രങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ എണ്ണിയിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

2. The children of Zion, as precious as finest gold -- to think that they should now be reckoned like crockery made by a potter!

3. കുറുനരികള്പോലും മുലകാണിച്ചു കുട്ടികളെ കുടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ പുത്രിയോ മരുഭൂമിയിലെ ഒട്ടകപ്പക്ഷിയെപ്പോലെ ക്രൂരയായ്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു

3. The very jackals give the breast, and suckle their young: but the daughter of my people is as cruel as the ostriches of the desert.

4. മുലകുടിക്കുന്ന കുഞ്ഞിന്റെ നാവു ദാഹംകൊണ്ടു അണ്ണാക്കോടു പറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; പൈതങ്ങള് അപ്പം ചോദിക്കുന്നു; ആരും നുറുക്കിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.

4. The tongue of the baby at the breast sticks to its palate for thirst; little children ask for bread, no one gives them any.

5. സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങളെ അനുഭവിച്ചുവന്നവര് വീഥികളില് പട്ടിണികിടക്കുന്നു; ധൂമ്രവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചു വളര്ന്നവര് കുപ്പകളെ ആലിംഗനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

5. Those who used to eat only the best, now lie dying in the streets; those who were reared in the purple claw at the rubbish heaps,

6. കൈ തൊടാതെ പെട്ടെന്നു മറിഞ്ഞുപോയ സൊദോമിന്റെ പാപത്തെക്കാള് എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ പുത്രിയുടെ അകൃത്യം വലുതാകുന്നു.

6. for the wickedness of the daughter of my people exceeded the sins of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment without a hand being laid on it.

7. അവളുടെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് ഹിമത്തിലും നിര്മ്മലന്മാരും പാലിലും വെളുത്തവരുമായിരുന്നു; അവരുടെ ദേഹം പവിഴത്തിലും ചുവപ്പുള്ളതും അവരുടെ ശോഭ നീലക്കല്ലുപോലെയും ആയിരുന്നു.

7. Once her young people were brighter than snow, whiter than milk; rosier than coral their bodies, their hue like sapphire.

8. അവരുടെ മുഖം കരിക്കട്ടയെക്കാള് കറുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; വീഥികളില് അവരെ കണ്ടിട്ടു ആരും അറിയുന്നില്ല; അവരുടെ ത്വക് അസ്ഥികളോടു പറ്റി ഉണങ്ങി മരംപോലെ ആയിത്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

8. Now their faces are blacker than soot, they are not recognised in the streets, the skin has shrunk over their bones, as dry as a stick.

9. വാള്കൊണ്ടു മരിക്കുന്നവര് വിശപ്പുകൊണ്ടു മരിക്കുന്നവരിലും ഭാഗ്യവാന്മാര്; അവര് നിലത്തിലെ അനുഭവമില്ലയാകയാല് ബാധിതരായി ക്ഷീണിച്ചുപോകുന്നു.

9. Happier those killed by the sword than those killed by famine: they waste away, sunken for lack of the fruits of the earth.

10. കരുണയുള്ള സ്ത്രീകള് തങ്ങളുടെ പൈതങ്ങളെ സ്വന്തകൈകൊണ്ടു പാകം ചെയ്തു; അവര് എന്റെ ജനത്തിന് പുത്രിയുടെ നാശത്തിങ്കല് അവര്ക്കും ആഹാരമായിരുന്നു.

10. With their own hands, kindly women cooked their children; this was their food when the daughter of my people was ruined.

11. യഹോവ തന്റെ ക്രോധം നിവര്ത്തിച്ചു, തന്റെ ഉഗ്രകോപം ചൊരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് സീയോനില് തീ കത്തിച്ചുഅതു അതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെ ദഹിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

11. Yahweh indulged his fury, he vented his fierce anger, he lit a fire in Zion which devoured her foundations.

12. വൈരിയും ശത്രുവും യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ വാതിലുകള്ക്കകത്തു കടക്കും എന്നു ഭൂരാജാക്കന്മാരും ഭൂവാസികള് ആരും വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല.

12. The kings of the earth never believed, nor did any of the inhabitants of the world, that foe or enemy would ever penetrate the gates of Jerusalem.

13. അതിന്റെ നടുവില് നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ രക്തം ചൊരിഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ള പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ പാപങ്ങളും പുരോഹിതന്മാരുടെ അകൃത്യങ്ങളും ഹേതുവായി.

13. Owing to the sins of her prophets and the crimes of her priests, who had shed the blood of the upright, in the heart of the city,

14. അവര് കുരടന്മാരായി വീഥികളില് ഉഴന്നു രക്തം പുരണ്ടു നടക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ആര്ക്കും തൊട്ടുകൂടാ.

14. they wandered blindly through the streets, polluted with blood, so that no one dared to touch their clothes.

15. മാറുവിന് ! അശുദ്ധന് ! മാറുവിന് ! മാറുവിന് ! തൊടരുതു! എന്നു അവരോടു വിളിച്ചുപറയും; അവര് ഔടി ഉഴലുമ്പോള്അവര് ഇനി ഇവിടെ വന്നു പാര്ക്കയില്ല എന്നു ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയില് പറയും.

15. 'Keep away! Unclean!' people shouted, 'Keep away! Keep away! Don't touch!' If they left and fled to the nations, they were not allowed to stay there either.

16. യഹോവയുടെ നോട്ടം അവരെ ചിതറിച്ചു; അവന് അവരെ കടാക്ഷിക്കയില്ല; അവര് പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ ആദരിച്ചില്ല, വൃദ്ധന്മാരോടു കൃപ കാണിച്ചതുമില്ല.

16. The face of Yahweh destroyed them, he will look on them no more. There was no respect for the priests, no deference for the elders.

17. വ്യര്ത്ഥസഹായത്തിന്നായി നോക്കി ഞങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ണു ഇപ്പോഴും മങ്ങുന്നു; രക്ഷിപ്പാന് കഴിയാത്ത ജാതിക്കായി ഞങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ കാവല്മാളികയില് കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. Continually we were wearing out our eyes, watching for help -- in vain. From our towers we watched for a nation which could not save us anyway.

18. ഞങ്ങളുടെ വീഥികളില് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു നടന്നു കൂടാതവണ്ണം അവര് ഞങ്ങളുടെ കാലടികള്ക്കു പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞങ്ങളുടെ അവസാനം അടുത്തു, ഞങ്ങളുടെ കാലം തികഞ്ഞു, ഞങ്ങളുടെ അവസാനം വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. Men dogged our steps, to keep us out of our streets. Our end was near, our days were done, our end had come.

19. ഞങ്ങളെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നവര് ആകാശത്തിലെ കഴുക്കളിലും വേഗമുള്ളവര്; അവര് മലകളില് ഞങ്ങളെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു, മരുഭൂമിയില് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കായി പതിയിരുന്നു.

19. Our pursuers were swifter than eagles in the sky; they hounded our steps through the mountains, they lay in ambush for us in the wilds.

20. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ജീവശ്വാസമായി, യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനായവന് അവരുടെ കുഴികളില് അപപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ നിഴലില് നാം ജാതികളുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ ജിവിക്കും എന്നു ഞങ്ങള് വിചാരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

20. The breath of our nostrils, Yahweh's anointed, was caught in their traps, he of whom we said, 'In his shadow we shall live among the nations.'

21. ഊസ് ദേശത്തു പാര്ക്കുംന്ന എദോംപുത്രിയേ, സന്തോഷിച്ചു അനന്ദിക്ക; പാനപാത്രം നിന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കും വരും; നീ ലഹരിപിടിച്ചു നിന്നെത്തന്നേ നഗ്നയാക്കും.

21. Rejoice, exult, daughter of Edom, you who reside in Uz! To you in turn the cup will pass; you will get drunk and strip yourself naked!

22. സീയോന് പുത്രിയേ, നിന്റെ അകൃത്യം തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനി അവന് നിന്നെ പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു അയക്കയില്ല; എദോംപുത്രിയേ അവന് നിന്റെ അകൃത്യം സന്ദര്ശിക്കയും നിന്റെ പാപങ്ങള് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യും.

22. Your wickedness is atoned for, daughter of Zion, he will never banish you again. But your wickedness, daughter of Edom, will he punish, your sins he will lay bare!
