1. അയ്യോ, പൊന്നു മങ്ങിപ്പോയി, നിര്മ്മല തങ്കം മാറിപ്പോയി, വിശുദ്ധരത്നങ്ങള് സകലവീഥികളുടെയും തലെക്കല് ചൊരിഞ്ഞു കിടക്കുന്നു.

1. Our glittering gold has grown dull; the stones of the Temple lie scattered in the streets.

2. തങ്കത്തോടു തുല്യരായിരുന്ന സീയോന്റെ വിശിഷ്ടപുത്രന്മാരെ കുശവന്റെ പണിയായ മണ്പാത്രങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ എണ്ണിയിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

2. Zion's young people were as precious to us as gold, but now they are treated like common clay pots.

3. കുറുനരികള്പോലും മുലകാണിച്ചു കുട്ടികളെ കുടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ പുത്രിയോ മരുഭൂമിയിലെ ഒട്ടകപ്പക്ഷിയെപ്പോലെ ക്രൂരയായ്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു

3. Even a mother wolf will nurse her cubs, but my people are like ostriches, cruel to their young.

4. മുലകുടിക്കുന്ന കുഞ്ഞിന്റെ നാവു ദാഹംകൊണ്ടു അണ്ണാക്കോടു പറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; പൈതങ്ങള് അപ്പം ചോദിക്കുന്നു; ആരും നുറുക്കിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.

4. They let their babies die of hunger and thirst; children are begging for food that no one will give them.

5. സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങളെ അനുഭവിച്ചുവന്നവര് വീഥികളില് പട്ടിണികിടക്കുന്നു; ധൂമ്രവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചു വളര്ന്നവര് കുപ്പകളെ ആലിംഗനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

5. People who once ate the finest foods die starving in the streets; those raised in luxury are pawing through garbage for food.

6. കൈ തൊടാതെ പെട്ടെന്നു മറിഞ്ഞുപോയ സൊദോമിന്റെ പാപത്തെക്കാള് എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ പുത്രിയുടെ അകൃത്യം വലുതാകുന്നു.

6. My people have been punished even more than the inhabitants of Sodom, which met a sudden downfall at the hands of God.

7. അവളുടെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് ഹിമത്തിലും നിര്മ്മലന്മാരും പാലിലും വെളുത്തവരുമായിരുന്നു; അവരുടെ ദേഹം പവിഴത്തിലും ചുവപ്പുള്ളതും അവരുടെ ശോഭ നീലക്കല്ലുപോലെയും ആയിരുന്നു.

7. Our princes were undefiled and pure as snow, vigorous and strong, glowing with health.

8. അവരുടെ മുഖം കരിക്കട്ടയെക്കാള് കറുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; വീഥികളില് അവരെ കണ്ടിട്ടു ആരും അറിയുന്നില്ല; അവരുടെ ത്വക് അസ്ഥികളോടു പറ്റി ഉണങ്ങി മരംപോലെ ആയിത്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

8. Now they lie unknown in the streets, their faces blackened in death; their skin, dry as wood, has shriveled on their bones.

9. വാള്കൊണ്ടു മരിക്കുന്നവര് വിശപ്പുകൊണ്ടു മരിക്കുന്നവരിലും ഭാഗ്യവാന്മാര്; അവര് നിലത്തിലെ അനുഭവമില്ലയാകയാല് ബാധിതരായി ക്ഷീണിച്ചുപോകുന്നു.

9. Those who died in the war were better off than those who died later, who starved slowly to death, with no food to keep them alive.

10. കരുണയുള്ള സ്ത്രീകള് തങ്ങളുടെ പൈതങ്ങളെ സ്വന്തകൈകൊണ്ടു പാകം ചെയ്തു; അവര് എന്റെ ജനത്തിന് പുത്രിയുടെ നാശത്തിങ്കല് അവര്ക്കും ആഹാരമായിരുന്നു.

10. The disaster that came to my people brought horror; loving mothers boiled their own children for food.

11. യഹോവ തന്റെ ക്രോധം നിവര്ത്തിച്ചു, തന്റെ ഉഗ്രകോപം ചൊരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് സീയോനില് തീ കത്തിച്ചുഅതു അതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെ ദഹിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

11. The LORD turned loose the full force of his fury; he lit a fire in Zion that burned it to the ground.

12. വൈരിയും ശത്രുവും യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ വാതിലുകള്ക്കകത്തു കടക്കും എന്നു ഭൂരാജാക്കന്മാരും ഭൂവാസികള് ആരും വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല.

12. No one anywhere, not even rulers of foreign nations, believed that any invader could enter Jerusalem's gates.

13. അതിന്റെ നടുവില് നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ രക്തം ചൊരിഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ള പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ പാപങ്ങളും പുരോഹിതന്മാരുടെ അകൃത്യങ്ങളും ഹേതുവായി.

13. But it happened, because her prophets sinned and her priests were guilty of causing the death of innocent people.

14. അവര് കുരടന്മാരായി വീഥികളില് ഉഴന്നു രക്തം പുരണ്ടു നടക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ആര്ക്കും തൊട്ടുകൂടാ.

14. Her leaders wandered through the streets as though blind, so stained with blood that no one would touch them.

15. മാറുവിന് ! അശുദ്ധന് ! മാറുവിന് ! മാറുവിന് ! തൊടരുതു! എന്നു അവരോടു വിളിച്ചുപറയും; അവര് ഔടി ഉഴലുമ്പോള്അവര് ഇനി ഇവിടെ വന്നു പാര്ക്കയില്ല എന്നു ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയില് പറയും.

15. 'Get away!' people shouted. 'You're defiled! Don't touch me!' So they wandered from nation to nation, welcomed by no one.

16. യഹോവയുടെ നോട്ടം അവരെ ചിതറിച്ചു; അവന് അവരെ കടാക്ഷിക്കയില്ല; അവര് പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ ആദരിച്ചില്ല, വൃദ്ധന്മാരോടു കൃപ കാണിച്ചതുമില്ല.

16. The LORD had no more concern for them; he scattered them himself. He showed no regard for our priests and leaders.

17. വ്യര്ത്ഥസഹായത്തിന്നായി നോക്കി ഞങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ണു ഇപ്പോഴും മങ്ങുന്നു; രക്ഷിപ്പാന് കഴിയാത്ത ജാതിക്കായി ഞങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ കാവല്മാളികയില് കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. For help that never came, we looked until we could look no longer. We kept waiting for help from a nation that had none to give.

18. The enemy was watching for us; we could not even walk in the streets. Our days were over; the end had come.

19. Swifter than eagles swooping from the sky, they chased us down. They tracked us down in the hills; they took us by surprise in the desert.

20. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ജീവശ്വാസമായി, യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനായവന് അവരുടെ കുഴികളില് അപപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ നിഴലില് നാം ജാതികളുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ ജിവിക്കും എന്നു ഞങ്ങള് വിചാരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

20. They captured the source of our life, the king the LORD had chosen, the one we had trusted to protect us from every invader.

21. ഊസ് ദേശത്തു പാര്ക്കുംന്ന എദോംപുത്രിയേ, സന്തോഷിച്ചു അനന്ദിക്ക; പാനപാത്രം നിന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കും വരും; നീ ലഹരിപിടിച്ചു നിന്നെത്തന്നേ നഗ്നയാക്കും.

21. Laugh on, people of Edom and Uz; be glad while you can. Your disaster is coming too; you too will stagger naked in shame.

22. സീയോന് പുത്രിയേ, നിന്റെ അകൃത്യം തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനി അവന് നിന്നെ പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു അയക്കയില്ല; എദോംപുത്രിയേ അവന് നിന്റെ അകൃത്യം സന്ദര്ശിക്കയും നിന്റെ പാപങ്ങള് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യും.

22. Zion has paid for her sin; the LORD will not keep us in exile any longer. But Edom, the LORD will punish you; he will expose your guilty acts.
