1. അനന്തരം യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ഒക്കെയും പുറപ്പെട്ടു ദാന് മുതല് ബേര്--ശേബവരെയും ഗിലെയാദ്ദേശത്തും ഉള്ള സഭയൊക്കെയും ഏകമനസ്സോടെ മിസ്പയില് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് വന്നുകൂടി.

1. Then all the children of Yisra'el went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Be'er-Sheva, with the land of Gil`ad, to the LORD at Mitzpah.

2. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ സകലഗോത്രങ്ങളുമായ സര്വ്വജനത്തിന്റെയും പ്രധാനികളും ആയുധപാണികളായ നാലുലക്ഷം കാലാളും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ജനസംഘത്തില് വന്നുനിന്നു--

2. The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Yisra'el, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.

3. യിസ്രായേല് മക്കള് മിസ്പയിലേക്കു പോയി എന്നു ബെന്യാമീന്യര് കേട്ടു--അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ഈ ദോഷം എങ്ങിനെ സംഭവിച്ചു എന്നു പറവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു

3. (Now the children of Binyamin heard that the children of Yisra'el had gone up to Mitzpah.) The children of Yisra'el said, Tell us, how was this wickedness brought to pass?

4. കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ട സ്ത്രീയുടെ ഭര്ത്താവായ ലേവ്യന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുഞാനും എന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയും ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശത്തു ഗിബെയയില് രാപാര്പ്പാന് ചെന്നു.

4. The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, I came into Gevah that belongs to Binyamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.

5. എന്നാറെ ഗിബെയാനിവാസികള് എന്റെ നേരെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു രാത്രിയില് എന്റെ നിമിത്തം വീടുവളഞ്ഞു എന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാന് ഭാവിച്ചു; എന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയെ അവര് ബലാല്ക്കാരം ചെയ്തതിനാല് അവള് മരിച്ചുപോയി.

5. The men of Gevah rose against me, and beset the house round about me by night; me they thought to have slain, and my concubine they forced, and she is dead.

6. അവര് യിസ്രായേലില് ദുഷ്കര്മ്മവും വഷളത്വവും പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് എന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയെ ഖണ്ഡംഖണ്ഡമാക്കി യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ അവകാശദേശത്തൊക്കെയും കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

6. I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Yisra'el; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Yisra'el.

7. നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും യിസ്രായേല്യരല്ലോ; ഇതില് നിങ്ങളുടെ അഭിപ്രായവും ആലോചനയും പറവിന് .

7. Behold, you children of Yisra'el, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.

8. അപ്പോള് സര്വ്വജനവും ഒന്നായിട്ടു എഴുന്നേറ്റു പറഞ്ഞതുനമ്മില് ആരും തന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിലേക്കു പോകരുതു; ആരും വീട്ടിലേക്കു തിരികയുമരുതു.

8. All the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn to his house.

9. നാം ഇപ്പോള് ഗിബെയയോടു ചെയ്യേണ്ടുന്ന കാര്യമാവിതുനാം അതു സംബന്ധിച്ചു ചീട്ടിടേണം;

9. But now this is the thing which we will do to Gevah: we will go up against it by lot;

10. അവര് യിസ്രായേലില് പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ച സകലവഷളത്വത്തിന്നും പകരം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു ജനം ഗിബെയയിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുമ്പോള് അവര്ക്കും വേണ്ടി ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങള് പോയി കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില് നൂറ്റില് പത്തുപേരെയും ആയിരത്തില് നൂറുപേരെയും പതിനായിരത്തില് ആയിരംപേരെയും എടുക്കേണം.

10. and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Yisra'el, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to get food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gevah of Binyamin, according to all the folly that they have worked in Yisra'el.

11. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്യര് ഒക്കെയും ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി ഏകമനസ്സോടെ യോജിച്ചു.

11. So all the men of Yisra'el were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

12. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങള് ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തിലെങ്ങും ആളയച്ചുനിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു ദോഷം നടന്നതു എന്തു?

12. The tribes of Yisra'el sent men through all the tribe of Binyamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is happen among you?

13. ഗിബെയയിലെ ആ നീചന്മാരെ ഞങ്ങള് കൊന്നു യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു ദോഷം നീക്കിക്കളയേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരെ ഏല്പിച്ചു തരുവിന് എന്നു പറയിച്ചു. ബെന്യാമീന്യരോ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളായ തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടനുസരിപ്പാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളോടു

13. Now therefore deliver up the men, the base fellows, who are in Gevah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Yisra'el. But Binyamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers the children of Yisra'el.

14. യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പുറപ്പെടത്തക്കവണ്ണം തങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളില്നിന്നു ഗിബെയയില് വന്നുകൂടി.

14. The children of Binyamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gevah, to go out to battle against the children of Yisra'el.

15. അന്നു ഗിബെയാനിവാസികളില് എണ്ണിത്തിരിച്ച എഴുനൂറു വിരുതന്മാരെ കൂടാതെ പട്ടണങ്ങളില് നിന്നു വന്ന ബെന്യാമീന്യര് ഇരുപത്താറയിരം ആയുധപാണികള് ഉണ്ടെന്നു എണ്ണം കണ്ടു.

15. The children of Binyamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gevah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.

16. ഈ ജനത്തിലെല്ലാം ഇടത്തു കയ്യന്മാരായ എഴുനൂറു വിരുതന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവര് എല്ലാവരും ഒരു രോമത്തിന്നു പോലും ഏറുപിഴെക്കാത്ത കവിണക്കാര് ആയിരുന്നു.

16. Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; everyone could sling stones at a hair-breadth, and not miss.

17. ബെന്യാമീന് ഒഴികെയുള്ള യിസ്രായേല്യരോ നാലുലക്ഷം ആയുധപാണികള് ആയിരുന്നു; അവര് എല്ലാവരും യോദ്ധാക്കള് തന്നേ.

17. The men of Yisra'el, besides Binyamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men who drew sword: all these were men of war.

18. അനന്തരം യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബേഥേലിലേക്കു ചെന്നുബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു പടവെട്ടുവാന് ഞങ്ങളില് ആര് മുമ്പനായി ചെല്ലേണ്ടു എന്നു ദൈവത്തോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചു. യെഹൂദാ മുമ്പനായി ചെല്ലട്ടെ എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

18. The children of Yisra'el arose, and went up to Beit-El, and asked counsel of God; and they said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Binyamin? the LORD said, Yehudah shall go up first.

19. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഗിബെയെക്കു നേരെ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി.

19. The children of Yisra'el rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gevah.

20. യിസ്രായേല്യര് ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്വാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഗിബെയയില് അവരുടെ നേരെ അണിനിരന്നു.

20. The men of Yisra'el went out to battle against Binyamin; and the men of Yisra'el set the battle in array against them at Gevah.

21. ബെന്യാമീന്യരോ ഗിബെയയില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു യിസ്രായേല്യരില് ഇരുപത്തീരായിരംപേരെ അന്നു സംഹരിച്ചു വീഴിച്ചു.

21. The children of Binyamin came forth out of Gevah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Yisra'elites on that day Twenty-two thousand men.

22. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ചെന്നു സന്ധ്യവരെ കരഞ്ഞുഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു ഞങ്ങള് ഇനിയും യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പോകേണമോ എന്നു യഹോവയോടുചോദിച്ചു. അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുവിന് എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

22. The people, the men of Yisra'el, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.

23. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്യരായ പടജ്ജനം ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു ഒന്നാം ദിവസം അണിനിരന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുതന്നേ പിന്നെയും പടെക്കു അണിനിരന്നു.

23. The children of Yisra'el went up and wept before the LORD until even; and they asked of the LORD, saying, Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Binyamin my brother? the LORD said, Go up against him.

24. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് രണ്ടാം ദിവസവും ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു അടുത്തു.

24. The children of Yisra'el came near against the children of Binyamin the second day.

25. ബെന്യാമീന്യര് രണ്ടാം ദിവസവും ഗിബെയയില്നിന്നു അവരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു യിസ്രായേല് മക്കളില് പിന്നെയും പതിനെണ്ണായിരംപേരെ സംഹരിച്ചു വീഴിച്ചു; അവര് എല്ലാവരും യോദ്ധാക്കള് ആയിരുന്നു.

25. Binyamin went forth against them out of Gevah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Yisra'el again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.

26. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ഒക്കെയും സര്വ്വജനവും കയറി ബേഥേലിലേക്കു ചെന്നു; അവിടെ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു അന്നു സന്ധ്യവരെ ഉപവസിച്ചുപാര്ത്തു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും അര്പ്പിച്ചു.

26. Then all the children of Yisra'el, and all the people, went up, and came to Beit-El, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before the LORD.

27. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചു; അക്കാലത്തു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നിയമപെട്ടകം അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

27. The children of Yisra'el asked of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,

28. അഹരോന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിന്റെ മകന് ഫീനെഹാസ് ആയിരുന്നു അക്കാലത്തു തിരുസന്നിധിയില് നിന്നിരുന്നതു. ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു ഞങ്ങള് ഇനിയും പടയെടുക്കേണമോ? ഒഴിഞ്ഞുകളയേണമേ എന്നു അവര് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുചെല്ലുവിന് ; നാളെ ഞാന് അവരെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

28. and Pinechas, the son of El`azar, the son of Aharon, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Binyamin my brother, or shall I cease? the LORD said, Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.

29. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്യര് ഗിബെയെക്കു ചുറ്റും പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരെ ആക്കി.

29. Yisra'el set liers-in-wait against Gevah round about.

30. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് മൂന്നാം ദിവസവും ബെന്യാമീന്യരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ ഗിബെയയുടെ നേരെ പടെക്കു അണിനിരന്നു.

30. The children of Yisra'el went up against the children of Binyamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gevah, as at other times.

31. ബെന്യാമീന്യര് പടജ്ജനത്തിന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു പട്ടണം വിട്ടു പുറത്തായി; ബേഥേലിലേക്കും വയലില്ക്കൂടി ഗിബെയയിലേക്കും പോകുന്ന രണ്ടു പെരുവഴികളില്വെച്ചു മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ പടജ്ജനത്തില് ചിലരെ വെട്ടിത്തുടങ്ങി; യിസ്രായേലില് ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതുപേരെ കൊന്നു.

31. The children of Binyamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Beit-El, and the other to Gevah, in the field, about thirty men of Yisra'el.

32. അവര് മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ നമ്മുടെ മുമ്പില് തോറ്റോടുന്നു എന്നു ബെന്യാമീന്യര് പറഞ്ഞു. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളോനാം ഔടി അവരെ പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു പെരുവഴികളിലേക്കു ആകര്ഷിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

32. The children of Binyamin said, They are struck down before us, as at the first. But the children of Yisra'el said, Let us flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways.

33. യിസ്രായേല്യര് ഒക്കെയും തങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബാല്--താമാരില് പടെക്കു അണിനിരന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരം ഗിബെയയുടെ പുല്പുറത്തു തങ്ങള് ഇരുന്നേടത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

33. All the men of Yisra'el rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Ba`al-Tamar: and the liers-in-wait of Yisra'el broke forth out of their place, even out of Ma`areh-Geva.

34. എല്ലായിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്ന പതിനായിരംപേര് ഗിബെയയുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു; പട കഠിനമായി മുറുകി; എങ്കിലും ആപത്തു അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവര് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

34. There came over against Gevah ten thousand chosen men out of all Yisra'el, and the battle was sore; but they didn't know that evil was close on them.

35. യഹോവ ബെന്യാമീന്യരെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില് തോലക്കുമാറാക്കി; അന്നു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ബെന്യമീന്യരില് ഇരുപത്തയ്യായിരത്തൊരുനൂറുപേരെ സംഹരിച്ചു; അവര് എല്ലാവരും ആയുധപാണികള് ആയിരുന്നു.

35. The LORD struck Binyamin before Yisra'el; and the children of Yisra'el destroyed of Binyamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men: all these drew the sword.

36. ഇങ്ങനെ ബെന്യാമീന്യര് തങ്ങള് തോറ്റു എന്നു കണ്ടു; എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേല്യര് ഗിബെയെക്കരികെ ആക്കിയിരുന്ന പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരെ വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ബെന്യാമീന്യര്ക്കും സ്ഥലം കൊടുത്തു.

36. So the children of Binyamin saw that they were struck; for the men of Yisra'el gave place to Binyamin, because they trusted to the liers-in-wait whom they had set against Gevah.

37. ഉടനെ പതിയിരിപ്പുകാര് ഗിബെയയില് പാഞ്ഞുകയറി; പതിയിരിപ്പുകാര് നീളെ നടന്നു പട്ടണത്തെയൊക്കെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് സംഹരിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

37. The liers-in-wait hurried, and rushed on Gevah; and the liers-in-wait drew themselves along, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.

38. പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു അടയാളമായിട്ടു ഒരു വലിയ പുക പൊങ്ങുമാറാക്കേണമെന്നു യിസ്രായേല്യര് പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരുമായി പറഞ്ഞൊത്തിരുന്നു.

38. Now the appointed sign between the men of Yisra'el and the liers-in-wait was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.

39. യിസ്രായേല്യര് പടയില് പിന് വാങ്ങിയപ്പോള് ബെന്യാമീന്യര് യിസ്രായേല്യരെ വെട്ടിത്തുടങ്ങി ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതുപേരെ കൊന്നു; മുന് കഴിഞ്ഞ പടയിലെപ്പോലെ അവര് നമ്മുടെ മുമ്പില് തോറ്റോടുന്നു എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

39. The men of Yisra'el turned in the battle, and Binyamin began to strike and kill of the men of Yisra'el about thirty persons; for they said, Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle.

40. എന്നാല് പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു അടയാളം ഒരു വലിയ പുകത്തൂണായി പൊങ്ങിത്തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് ബെന്യാമീന്യര് പിന്നോട്ടു നോക്കി; പട്ടണം മുഴുവനും ആകാശത്തോളം കത്തിപ്പൊങ്ങുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

40. But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Binyamini looked behind them; and, behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to the sky.

41. യിസ്രായേല്യര് തിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ബെന്യാമീന്യര് തങ്ങള്ക്കു ആപത്തു ഭവിച്ചു എന്നു കണ്ടു.

41. The men of Yisra'el turned, and the men of Binyamin were dismayed; for they saw that evil had come on them.

42. അവര് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞു; പട അവരെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു; പട്ടണങ്ങളില്നിന്നുള്ളവരെ അവര് അതതിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യേവെച്ചു സംഹരിച്ചു.

42. Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Yisra'el to the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in the midst of it.

43. അവര് ബെന്യാമീന്യരെ വളഞ്ഞു ഔടിച്ചു ഗിബെയെക്കെതിരെ കിഴക്കു അവരുടെ വിശ്രാമസ്ഥലത്തുവെച്ചു പിടിക്കുടി.

43. They enclosed the Binyamini round about, and chased them, and trod them down at their resting-place, as far as over against Gevah toward the sunrise.

44. അങ്ങനെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരില് പതിനെണ്ണായിരംപേര് പട്ടുപോയി; അവര് എല്ലാവരും പരാക്രമശാലികള് ആയിരുന്നു.

44. There fell of Binyamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valor.

45. അപ്പോള് അവര് തിരിഞ്ഞു മരുഭൂമിയില് രിമ്മോന് പാറെക്കു ഔടി; അവരില് അയ്യായിരംപേരെ പെരുവഴികളില്വെച്ചു ഒറ്റയൊറ്റയായി പിടിച്ചു കൊന്നു; മറ്റവരെ ഗിദോമോളം പിന്തുടര്ന്നു അവരിലും രണ്ടായിരം പേരെ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

45. They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men, and followed hard after them to Gid`om, and struck of them two thousand men.

46. അങ്ങനെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരില് ആകെ ഇരുപത്തയ്യായിരം ആയുധപാണികള് അന്നു പട്ടുപോയി; അവര് എല്ലാവരും പരാക്രമശാലികള് തന്നേ.

46. So that all who fell that day of Binyamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of valor.

47. എന്നാല് അറുനൂറുപേര് തിരിഞ്ഞു മരുഭൂമിയില് രിമ്മോന് പാറവരെ ഔടി, അവിടെ നാലു മാസം പാര്ത്തു.

47. But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and abode in the rock of Rimmon four months.

48. യിസ്രായേല്യര് പിന്നെയും ബെന്യാമീന്യരുടെ നേരെ തിരിഞ്ഞു ഔരോ പട്ടണം മുഴുവനെയും മൃഗങ്ങളെയും കണ്ട സകലത്തെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് സംഹരിച്ചു; അവര് കണ്ട എല്ലാപട്ടണങ്ങളും തീവെച്ചു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

48. The men of Yisra'el turned again on the children of Binyamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the cattle, and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.
