1. ആ കാലത്തു ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു പടവെട്ടേണ്ടതിന്നു തങ്ങളുടെ സേനകളെ ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി; അപ്പോള് ആഖീശ് ദാവീദിനോടുനീയും നിന്റെ ആളുകളും എന്നോടുകൂടെ യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പോരേണം എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. Now in those days the Philistines got their forces together to make war on Israel. And Achish said to David, Certainly you and your men are to go out with me to the fight.

2. എന്നാറെ ദാവീദ് ആഖീശിനോടുഅടിയന് എന്തു ചെയ്യും എന്നു നീ കണ്ടറിയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ആഖീശ് ദാവീദിനോടുഅതു കെണ്ടു ഞാന് നിന്നെ എപ്പോഴും എന്റെ മെയ്ക്കാവലാക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And David said to Achish, You will see now what your servant will do. And Achish said to David, Then I will make you keeper of my head for ever.

3. എന്നാല് ശമൂവേല് മരിച്ചുപോയിരുന്നു; യിസ്രായേലെല്ലാം അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു വിലപിച്ചു അവന്റെ സ്വന്തപട്ടണമായ രാമയില് അവനെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ശൌലോ വെളിച്ചപ്പാടന്മാരെയും മന്ത്രവാദികളെയും ദേശത്തുനിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

3. Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel, after weeping for him, had put his body in its last resting-place in Ramah, his town. And Saul had put away from the land all those who had control of spirits and who made use of secret arts.

4. എന്നാല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി ശൂനേമില് പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി; ശൌലും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിനെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി ഗില്ബോവയില് പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി.

4. And the Philistines came together and put their forces in position in Shunem; and Saul got all Israel together and they took up their positions in Gilboa.

5. ശൌല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സൈന്യത്തെ കണ്ടു ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഏറ്റവും വിറെച്ചു.

5. And when Saul saw the Philistine army he was troubled, and his heart was moved with fear.

6. ശൌല് യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചാറെ യഹോവ അവനോടു സ്വപ്നംകൊണ്ടോ ഊറീംകൊണ്ടോ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെക്കൊണ്ടോ ഉത്തരം അരുളിയില്ല.

6. And when Saul went for directions to the Lord, the Lord gave him no answer, by a dream or by the Urim or by the prophets.

7. അപ്പോള് ശൌല് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുഎനിക്കു ഒരു വെളിച്ചപ്പാടത്തിയെ അന്വേഷിപ്പിന് ; ഞാന് അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു ചോദിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുഏന് -ദോരില് ഒരു വെളിച്ചപ്പാടത്തി ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. Then Saul said to his servants, Get me a woman who has control of a spirit so that I may go to her and get directions. And his servants said to him, There is such a woman at En-dor.

8. ശൌല് വേഷംമാറി വേറെ വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചു രണ്ടാളെയും കൂട്ടി പോയി രാത്രിയില് ആ സ്ത്രീയുടെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിവെളിച്ചപ്പാടാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടു നീ എനിക്കായി പ്രശ്നം നോക്കുകയും ഞാന് പറയുന്നവനെ വരുത്തിത്തരികയും ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. So Saul, putting on other clothing, so that he might not be seen to be the king, took two men with him and went to the woman by night; and he said, Now, with the help of the spirit which you have, make the person whose name I will give you come up.

9. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുശൌല് ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ളതു, അവന് വെളിച്ചപ്പാടന്മാരെയും മന്ത്രവാദികളെയും ദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഛേദിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതുതന്നേ നീ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്നെ കൊല്ലിപ്പാന് നീ എന്റെ ജീവന്നു കണി വെക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And the woman said to him, But you have knowledge of what Saul has done, how he has put away out of the land those who have control of spirits and the users of secret arts: why would you, by a trick, put me in danger of death?

10. യഹോവയാണ ഈ കാര്യംകൊണ്ടു നിനക്കു ഒരു ദോഷവും ഭവിക്കയില്ല എന്നു ശൌല് യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് അവളോടു സത്യം ചെയ്തു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And Saul made an oath to her by the Lord, saying, By the living Lord, no punishment will come to you for this.

11. ഞാന് ആരെ വരുത്തിത്തരേണ്ടു എന്നു സ്ത്രീ ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുശമൂവേലിനെ വരുത്തിത്തരേണം എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Then the woman said, Who am I to let you see? And he said, Make Samuel come up for me.

12. സ്ത്രീ ശമൂവേലിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് ഉച്ചത്തില് നിലവിളിച്ചു, ശൌലിനോടുനീ എന്നെ ചതിച്ചതു എന്തു? നീ ശൌല് ആകുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. And the woman saw that it was Saul, and she gave a loud cry, and said to Saul, Why have you made use of deceit? for you are Saul.

13. രാജാവു അവളോടുഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; നീ കാണുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഒരു ദേവന് ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു കയറിവരുന്നതു ഞാന് കാണുന്നു എന്നു സ്ത്രീ ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And the king said to her, Have no fear: what do you see? And the woman said to Saul, I see a god coming up out of the earth.

14. അവന് അവളോടുഅവന്റെ രൂപം എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവള്ഒരു വൃദ്ധന് കയറിവരുന്നു; അവന് ഒരു അങ്കിയും ധരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാറെ അതു ശമൂവേല് എന്നറിഞ്ഞു ശൌല് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

14. And he said to her, What is his form? And she said, It is an old man coming up covered with a robe. And Saul saw that it was Samuel, and with his face bent down to the earth he gave him honour.

15. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുനീ എന്നെ വിളിച്ചതിനാല് എന്റെ സ്വസ്ഥതെക്കു ഭംഗം വരുത്തിയതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; അതിന്നു ശൌല്ഞാന് മഹാകഷ്ടത്തിലായിരിക്കുന്നു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് എന്നോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുന്നു; ദൈവം എന്നെ വിട്ടുമാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു; പ്രവാചകന്മാരെക്കൊണ്ടാകട്ടെ സ്വപ്നംകൊണ്ടാകട്ടെ എന്നോടു ഉത്തരമരുളുന്നില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണമെന്നു എനിക്കു പറഞ്ഞുതരേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And Samuel said to Saul, Why have you made me come up, troubling my rest? And Saul in answer said, I am in great danger; for the Philistines are making war on me, and God has gone away from me and will no longer give me any answer, by the prophets or by dreams: so I have sent for you to make clear to me what I am to do.

16. അതിന്നു ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞതുദൈവം നിന്നെ വിട്ടുമാറി നിനക്കു ശത്രുവായ്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കെ നീ എന്തിന്നു എന്നോടു ചോദിക്കുന്നു?

16. And Samuel said, Why do you put your questions to me, seeing that God has gone away from you and is on the side of him who is against you?

17. യഹോവ എന്നെക്കൊണ്ടു പറയിച്ചതുപോലെ അവന് നിന്നോടു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; രാജത്വം യഹോവ നിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു പറിച്ചെടുത്തു നിന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരനായ ദാവീദിന്നു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. And the Lord himself has done what I said: the Lord has taken the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbour David;

18. നീ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന കേട്ടില്ല; അമാലേക്കിന്റെമേല് അവന്റെ ഉഗ്രകോപം നടത്തിയതുമില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ ഈ കാര്യം ഇന്നു നിന്നോടു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. Because you did not do what the Lord said, and did not give effect to his burning wrath against Amalek. So the Lord has done this thing to you today.

19. യഹോവ നിന്നെയും യിസ്രായേലിനെയും ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും; നാളെ നീയും നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും എന്നോടുകൂടെ ആകും; യിസ്രായേല്പാളയത്തെ യഹോവ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും.

19. And more than this, the Lord will give Israel up with you into the hands of the Philistines: and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me: and the Lord will give up the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.

20. പെട്ടെന്നു ശൌല് നെടുനീളത്തില് നിലത്തു വീണു ശമൂവേലിന്റെ വാക്കുകള് നിമിത്തം ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടുപോയി; അവനില് ഒട്ടും ബലമില്ലാതെയായി; അന്നു രാവും പകലും മുഴുവന് അവന് ഒന്നും ഭക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നു.

20. Then Saul went down flat on the earth, and was full of fear because of Samuel's words: and there was no strength in him, for he had taken no food all that day or all that night.

21. അപ്പോള് ആ സ്ത്രീ ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു, അവന് ഏറ്റവും പരിഭ്രമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു അവനോടുഅടിയന് നിന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു ജീവനെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു, നീ എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു അനുസരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

21. And the woman came to Saul and saw that he was in great trouble, and said to him, See now, your servant has given ear to your words, and I have put my life in danger by doing what you said.

22. ആകയാല് അടിയന്റെ വാക്കു നീയും കേള്ക്കേണമേ. ഞാന് ഒരു കഷണം അപ്പം നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് വെക്കട്ടെ; നീ തിന്നേണം; എന്നാല് നിന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോകുവാന് നിനക്കു ബലം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. So now, give ear to the voice of your servant, and let me give you a little bread; and take some food to give you strength when you go on your way.

23. അതിന്നു അവന് വേണ്ടാ, ഞാന് തിന്നുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; എങ്കിലും അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരും ആ സ്ത്രീയും അവനെ നിര്ബന്ധിച്ചു; അവന് അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു നിലത്തുനിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു മെത്തമേല് ഇരുന്നു.

23. But he would not, saying, I have no desire for food. But his servants, together with the woman, made him take food, and he gave way to them. So he got up from the earth, and took his seat on the bed.

24. സ്ത്രീയുടെ വീട്ടില് ഒരു തടിച്ച പശുക്കിടാവു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവള് ക്ഷണത്തില് അതിനെ അറുത്തു മാവും എടുത്തുകുഴെച്ചു പുളിപ്പില്ലാത്ത അപ്പം ചുട്ടു.

24. And the woman had in the house a young cow, made fat for food; and she put it to death straight away; and she took meal and got it mixed and made unleavened bread;

25. അവള് അതു ശൌലിന്റെയും ഭൃത്യന്മാരുടെയും മുമ്പില് വെച്ചു. അവര് തിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു രാത്രിയില് തന്നേ പോയി.

25. And she put it before Saul and his servants, and they had a meal. Then they got up and went away the same night.
