1. താന് യാക്കോബിന്നു മക്കളെ പ്രസവിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നു റാഹേല് കണ്ടു തന്റെ സഹോദരിയോടു അസൂയപ്പെട്ടു യാക്കോബിനോടുഎനിക്കു മക്കളെ തരേണം; അല്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് മരിച്ചുപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. Rachel saw that she was not giving Jacob any children. She became jealous of her sister Leah. So Rachel said to Jacob, 'Give me children, or I will die!'

2. Jacob became angry with Rachel and said, 'I am not God. He is the one who has caused you to not have children.'

3. അതിന്നു അവള് എന്റെ ദാസി ബില്ഹാ ഉണ്ടല്ലോ; അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെല്ലുക; അവള് എന്റെ മടിയില് പ്രസവിക്കട്ടെ; അവളാല് എനിക്കും മക്കള് ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Then Rachel said, 'You can have my maid Bilhah. Sleep with her, and she will have a child for me. Then I can be a mother through her.'

4. So Rachel gave Bilhah to her husband Jacob. He had sexual relations with Bilhah.

5. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son for Jacob.

6. അപ്പോള് റാഹേല്ദൈവം എനിക്കു ന്യായം നടത്തി എന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു എനിക്കു ഒരു മകനെ തന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അതു കൊണ്ടു അവന്നു ദാന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

6. Rachel said, 'God has listened to my prayer. He decided to give me a son.' So she named this son Dan.

7. റാഹേലിന്റെ ദാസി ബില്ഹാ പിന്നെയും ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു യാക്കോബിന്നു രണ്ടാമതൊരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

7. Bilhah became pregnant again and gave Jacob a second son.

8. ഞാന് എന്റെ സഹോദരിയോടു വലിയോരു പോര് പൊരുതു ജയിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു റാഹേല് പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു നഫ്താലി എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

8. Rachel said, 'I have fought hard to compete with my sister, and I have won.' So she named that son Naphtali.

9. തനിക്കു പ്രസവം നിന്നുപോയി എന്നു ലേയാ കണ്ടാറെ തന്റെ ദാസി സില്പയെ വിളിച്ചു അവളെ യാക്കോബിന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.

9. Leah saw that she could have no more children. So she gave her slave girl Zilpah to Jacob.

10. ലേയയുടെ ദാസി സില്പാ യാക്കോബിന്നു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

10. Then Zilpah had a son.

11. അപ്പോള് ലേയാഭാഗ്യം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ഗാദ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

11. Leah said, 'I am lucky.' So she named the son Gad.

12. ലേയയുടെ ദാസി സില്പാ യാക്കോബിന്നു രണ്ടാമതു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

12. Zilpah gave birth to another son.

13. ഞാന് ഭാഗ്യവതി; സ്ത്രികള് എന്നെ ഭാഗ്യവതിയെന്നു പറയും എന്നു ലേയാ പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ആശേര് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

13. Leah said, 'I am very happy! Now women will call me happy.' So she named that son Asher.

14. കോതമ്പുകൊയിത്തുകാലത്തു രൂബേന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു വയലില് ദൂദായിപ്പഴം കണ്ടു തന്റെ അമ്മയായ ലേയയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. റാഹേല് ലേയയോടുനിന്റെ മകന്റെ ദൂദായിപ്പഴം കുറെ എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. During the wheat harvest Reuben went into the fields and found some special flowers. He brought them to his mother Leah. But Rachel said to Leah, 'Please give me some of your son's flowers.'

15. അവള് അവളോടുനീ എന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവിനെ എടുത്തതു പോരയോ? എന്റെ മകന്റെ ദൂദായിപ്പഴവും കൂടെ വേണമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു റാഹേല്ആകട്ടെ; നിന്റെ മകന്റെ ദൂദായിപ്പഴത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി ഇന്നു രാത്രി അവന് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Leah answered, 'You have already taken away my husband. Now you are trying to take away my son's flowers.' But Rachel answered, 'If you will give me your son's flowers, you can sleep with Jacob tonight.'

16. യാക്കോബ് വൈകുന്നേരം വയലില്നിന്നു വരുമ്പോള് ലേയാ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു ചെന്നുനീ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരേണം; എന്റെ മകന്റെ ദൂദായിപ്പഴം കൊണ്ടു ഞാന് നിന്നെ കൂലിക്കു വാങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അന്നു രാത്രി അവന് അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു.

16. Jacob came in from the fields that night. Leah saw him and went out to meet him. She said, 'You will sleep with me tonight. I have paid for you with my son's flowers.' So Jacob slept with Leah that night.

17. ദൈവം ലേയയുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു; അവള് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു യാക്കോബിന്നു അഞ്ചാമതു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

17. Then God allowed Leah to become pregnant again. She gave birth to a fifth son.

18. അപ്പോള് ലേയാഞാന് എന്റെ ദാസിയെ എന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവിന്നു കൊടുത്തതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവം എനിക്കു കൂലി തന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു യിസ്സാഖാര് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

18. She said, 'God has given me a reward because I gave my slave to my husband.' So she named her son Issachar.

19. ലേയാ പിന്നെയും ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു, യാക്കോബിന്നു ആറാമതു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു;

19. Leah became pregnant again and gave birth to a sixth son.

20. ദൈവം എനിക്കു ഒരു നല്ലദാനം തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് എന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവു എന്നോടുകൂടെ വസിക്കും; ഞാന് അവന്നു ആറു മക്കളെ പ്രസവിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു ലേയാ പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു സെബൂലൂന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

20. She said, 'God has given me a fine gift. Now surely Jacob will accept me, because I have given him six sons.' So she named this son Zebulun.

21. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അവള് ഒരു മകളെ പ്രസവിച്ചു അവള്ക്കു ദീനാ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

21. Later, Leah gave birth to a daughter. She named her Dinah.

22. ദൈവം റാഹേലിനെ ഔര്ത്തു; ദൈവം അവളുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു അവളുടെ ഗര്ഭത്തെ തുറന്നു.

22. Then God heard Rachel's prayer and made it possible for Rachel to have children.

23. അവള് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ദൈവം എന്റെ നിന്ദ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She said, 'God has taken away my shame.'

24. യഹോവ എനിക്കു ഇനിയും ഒരു മകനെ തരുമെന്നും പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു യോസേഫ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

24. Rachel named him Joseph, saying, 'May the Lord give me another son.'

25. റാഹേല് യോസേഫിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചശേഷം യാക്കോബ് ലാബാനോടുഞാന് എന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കും ദേശത്തേക്കും പോകുവാന് എന്നെ അയക്കേണം.

25. After the birth of Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, 'Now let me go back to my own homeland.

26. ഞാന് നിന്നെ സേവിച്ചതിന്റെ പ്രതിഫലമായ എന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരേയും മക്കളെയും എനിക്കു തരേണം; ഞാന് പോകട്ടെ; ഞാന് നിന്നെ സേവിച്ച സേവ നീ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. Give me my wives and my children. I have earned them by working for you. You know that I served you well.'

27. ലാബാന് അവനോടുനിനക്കു എന്നോടു ദയ ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് പോകരുതേ; നിന്റെ നിമിത്തം യഹോവ എന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു എന്നു എനിക്കു ബോദ്ധ്യമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. Laban said to him, 'Please, let me say something. I know that the Lord has blessed me because of you.

28. നിനക്കു എന്തു പ്രതിഫലം വേണം എന്നു പറക; ഞാന് തരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. Tell me what I should pay you, and I will give it to you.'

29. അവന് അവനോടുഞാന് നിന്നെ എങ്ങനെ സേവിച്ചു എന്നും നിന്റെ ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടം എന്റെ പക്കല് എങ്ങനെ ഇരുന്നു എന്നും നീ അറിയുന്നു.

29. Jacob answered, 'You know that I have worked hard for you. Your flocks have grown and been well while I cared for them.

30. ഞാന് വരുംമുമ്പെ നിനക്കു അല്പമേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളു; ഇപ്പോള് അതു അത്യന്തം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് കാല് വെച്ചേടത്തൊക്കെയും യഹോവ നിന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇനി എന്റെ സ്വന്തഭവനത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി ഞാന് എപ്പോള് കരുതും എന്നും പറഞ്ഞു.

30. When I came, you had little. Now you have much, much more. Every time I did something for you, the Lord blessed you. Now it is time for me to work for myself�it is time to do things for my family.'

31. ഞാന് നിനക്കു എന്തു തരേണം എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു യാക്കോബ് പറഞ്ഞതുനീ ഒന്നും തരേണ്ടാ; ഈ കാര്യം നീ ചെയ്തുതന്നാല് ഞാന് നിന്റെ ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടത്തെ ഇനിയും മേയിച്ചു പാലിക്കാം.

31. Laban asked, 'Then what should I give you?' Jacob answered, 'I don't want you to give me anything! I only want you to let me do this one thing: I will go back and take care of your sheep.

32. ഞാന് ഇന്നു നിന്റെ എല്ലാ കൂട്ടങ്ങളിലും കൂടി കടന്നു, അവയില്നിന്നു പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമുള്ള ആടുകളെ ഒക്കെയും ചെമ്മരിയാടുകളില് കറുത്തതിനെയൊക്കെയും കോലാടുകളില് പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമുള്ളതിനെയും വേര്തിരിക്കാം; അതു എന്റെ പ്രതിഫലമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

32. But let me go through all your flocks today and take every lamb with spots or stripes. Let me take every black young goat and every female goat with stripes or spots. That will be my pay.

33. നാളെ ഒരിക്കല് എന്റെ പ്രതിഫലം സംബന്ധിച്ചു നീ നോക്കുവാന് വരുമ്പോള് എന്റെ നീതി തെളിവായിരിക്കും; കോലാടുകളില് പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമില്ലാത്തതും ചെമ്മരിയാടുകളില് കറുത്തനിറമില്ലാത്തതും എല്ലാം മോഷ്ടിച്ചതായി എണ്ണാം.

33. In the future you can easily see if I am honest. You can come to look at my flocks. If I have any goat that isn't spotted or any sheep that isn't black, you will know that I stole it.'

34. അതിന്നു ലാബാന് നീ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ആകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

34. Laban answered, 'I agree to that. We will do what you ask.'

35. അന്നു തന്നേ അവന് വരയും മറുവുമുള്ള മുട്ടാടുകളെയും പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമുള്ള പെണ്കോലാടുകളെ ഒക്കെയും വെണ്മയുള്ളതിനെ ഒക്കെയും ചെമ്മരിയാടുകളില് കറുത്തനിറമുള്ളതിനെ ഒക്കെയും വേര്തിരിച്ചു അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

35. But that day Laban hid all the male goats that had spots. And he hid all the female goats that had spots on them. He also hid all the black sheep. Laban told his sons to watch these sheep.

36. അവന് തനിക്കും യാക്കോബിന്നും ഇടയില് മൂന്നു ദിവസത്തെ വഴിയകലം വെച്ചു; ലാബാന്റെ ശേഷമുള്ള ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടങ്ങളെ യാക്കോബ് മേയിച്ചു.

36. So the sons took all the spotted animals and led them to another place. They traveled for three days. Jacob stayed and took care of all the animals that were left.

37. എന്നാല് യാക്കോബ് പുന്നവൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെയും ബദാംവൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെയും അരിഞ്ഞില്വൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെയും പച്ചക്കൊമ്പുകളെ എടുത്തു അവയില് വെള്ള കാണത്തക്കവണ്ണം വെള്ളവരയായി തോലുരിച്ചു.

37. Then Jacob cut green branches from poplar and almond trees. He stripped off some of the bark so that the branches had white stripes on them.

38. ആടുകള് കുടിപ്പാന് വന്നപ്പോള് അവന് , താന് തോലുരിച്ച കൊമ്പുകളെ പാത്തികളിലും വെള്ളം പകരുന്ന തൊട്ടികളിലും ആടുകളുടെ മുമ്പില് വെച്ചു; അവ വെള്ളം കുടിപ്പാന് വന്നപ്പോള് ചനയേറ്റു.

38. He put the branches in front of the flocks at the watering places. When the animals came to drink, they also mated in that place.

39. ആടുകള് കൊമ്പുകളെ കണ്ടുകൊണ്ടു ചനയേറ്റു വരയും പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമുള്ള കുട്ടികളെ പെറ്റു.

39. Then when the goats mated in front of the branches, the young that were born were spotted, striped, or black.

40. ആ ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടികളെ യാക്കോബ് വേര്തിരിച്ചു ആടുകളെ ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകളില് വരയും മറുവുമുള്ള എല്ലാറ്റിന്നും അഭിമുഖമായി നിര്ത്തി; തന്റെ സ്വന്തകൂട്ടങ്ങളെ ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകളോടു ചേര്ക്കാതെ വേറെയാക്കി.

40. Jacob separated the spotted and the black animals from the other animals in the flock. He kept his animals separate from Laban's.

41. ബലമുള്ള ആടുകള് ചനയേലക്കുമ്പോഴൊക്കെയും കൊമ്പുകളെ കണ്ടുകൊണ്ടു ചനയേല്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യാക്കോബ് ആ കൊമ്പുകളെ പാത്തികളില് ആടുകളുടെ കണ്ണിന്നു മുമ്പില് വെച്ചു.

41. Any time the stronger animals in the flock were mating, Jacob put the branches before their eyes. The animals mated near those branches.

42. ബലമില്ലാത്ത ആടുകള് ചനയേലക്കുമ്പോള് അവയെ വെച്ചില്ല; അങ്ങനെ ബലമില്ലാത്തവ ലാബാന്നും ബലമുള്ളവ യാക്കോബിന്നും ആയിത്തീര്ന്നു.

42. But when the weaker animals mated, Jacob did not put the branches there. So the young animals born from the weak animals were Laban's. And the young animals born from the stronger animals were Jacob's.

43. അവന് മഹാസമ്പന്നനായി അവന്നു വളരെ ആടുകളും ദാസീദാസന്മാരും ഒട്ടകങ്ങളും കഴുതകളും ഉണ്ടാകയും ചെയ്തു.

43. In this way Jacob became very rich. He had large flocks, many servants, camels, and donkeys.
