1. താന് യാക്കോബിന്നു മക്കളെ പ്രസവിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നു റാഹേല് കണ്ടു തന്റെ സഹോദരിയോടു അസൂയപ്പെട്ടു യാക്കോബിനോടുഎനിക്കു മക്കളെ തരേണം; അല്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് മരിച്ചുപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. When Rahel saw that she bare Jacob no children, she envied her sister and said unto Jacob: give me children, or else I am but dead.

2. അപ്പോള് യാക്കോബിന്നു റാഹേലിനോടു കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചുനിനക്കു ഗര്ഭഫലം തരാതിരിക്കുന്ന ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്തോ ഞാന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. Then was Jacob wroth with Rahel saying: Am I in God's(godes) stead which keepeth from thee the fruit of thy womb?

3. അതിന്നു അവള് എന്റെ ദാസി ബില്ഹാ ഉണ്ടല്ലോ; അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെല്ലുക; അവള് എന്റെ മടിയില് പ്രസവിക്കട്ടെ; അവളാല് എനിക്കും മക്കള് ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Then she said: here is my maid Bilha: go in unto her, that she may bear upon my lap, that I may be increased by her.

4. അങ്ങനെ അവള് തന്റെ ദാസി ബില്ഹയെ അവന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു; യാക്കോബ് അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു.

4. And she gave him Bilha her handmaid to wife. And Jacob went in unto her:

5. ബില്ഹാ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു യാക്കേബിന്നു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

5. And Bilha conceived and bare Jacob a son.

6. അപ്പോള് റാഹേല്ദൈവം എനിക്കു ന്യായം നടത്തി എന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു എനിക്കു ഒരു മകനെ തന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അതു കൊണ്ടു അവന്നു ദാന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

6. Then said Rahel: God hath given sentence on my side, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son. Therefore called she him Dan.

7. റാഹേലിന്റെ ദാസി ബില്ഹാ പിന്നെയും ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു യാക്കോബിന്നു രണ്ടാമതൊരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

7. And Bilha Rahel's maid conceived again, and bare Jacob another son.

8. ഞാന് എന്റെ സഹോദരിയോടു വലിയോരു പോര് പൊരുതു ജയിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു റാഹേല് പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു നഫ്താലി എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

8. And Rahel said: God is turned, and I have made a change with my sister, and have gotten the upper hand. And she called his name Naphtali.

9. തനിക്കു പ്രസവം നിന്നുപോയി എന്നു ലേയാ കണ്ടാറെ തന്റെ ദാസി സില്പയെ വിളിച്ചു അവളെ യാക്കോബിന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.

9. When Lea saw that she had left bearing, she took Silpha her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife.

10. ലേയയുടെ ദാസി സില്പാ യാക്കോബിന്നു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

10. And Silpha Lea's maid bare Jacob a son.

11. അപ്പോള് ലേയാഭാഗ്യം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ഗാദ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

11. Then said Lea: Good luck: and called his name Gad.

12. ലേയയുടെ ദാസി സില്പാ യാക്കോബിന്നു രണ്ടാമതു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

12. And Silpha Lea's maid bare Jacob another son.

13. ഞാന് ഭാഗ്യവതി; സ്ത്രികള് എന്നെ ഭാഗ്യവതിയെന്നു പറയും എന്നു ലേയാ പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ആശേര് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

13. Then said Lea: happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed. And called his name Asser.

14. കോതമ്പുകൊയിത്തുകാലത്തു രൂബേന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു വയലില് ദൂദായിപ്പഴം കണ്ടു തന്റെ അമ്മയായ ലേയയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. റാഹേല് ലേയയോടുനിന്റെ മകന്റെ ദൂദായിപ്പഴം കുറെ എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. And Ruben went out in the wheat harvest and found mandragoras in the fields, and brought them unto his mother Lea. Then said Rahel to Lea give me of thy son's mandragoras.

15. അവള് അവളോടുനീ എന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവിനെ എടുത്തതു പോരയോ? എന്റെ മകന്റെ ദൂദായിപ്പഴവും കൂടെ വേണമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു റാഹേല്ആകട്ടെ; നിന്റെ മകന്റെ ദൂദായിപ്പഴത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി ഇന്നു രാത്രി അവന് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And Lea answered: Is it not enough, that thou hast taken away my husband, but wouldest take away my son's mandragoras also? Then said Rahel well, let him sleep with thee this night, for thy son's mandragoras.

16. യാക്കോബ് വൈകുന്നേരം വയലില്നിന്നു വരുമ്പോള് ലേയാ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു ചെന്നുനീ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരേണം; എന്റെ മകന്റെ ദൂദായിപ്പഴം കൊണ്ടു ഞാന് നിന്നെ കൂലിക്കു വാങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അന്നു രാത്രി അവന് അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു.

16. And when Jacob came from the fields at even, Lea went out to meet him, and said: come in to me, for I have bought thee with my son's mandragoras. And he slept with her that night.

17. ദൈവം ലേയയുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു; അവള് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു യാക്കോബിന്നു അഞ്ചാമതു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

17. And God heard Lea, that she conceived and bare unto Jacob the fifth son.

18. അപ്പോള് ലേയാഞാന് എന്റെ ദാസിയെ എന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവിന്നു കൊടുത്തതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവം എനിക്കു കൂലി തന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു യിസ്സാഖാര് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

18. Then said Lea: God hath given me my reward, because I gave my maiden to my husband, and she called him Isachar.

19. ലേയാ പിന്നെയും ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു, യാക്കോബിന്നു ആറാമതു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു;

19. And Lea conceived yet again and bare Jacob the sixth son.

20. ദൈവം എനിക്കു ഒരു നല്ലദാനം തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് എന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവു എന്നോടുകൂടെ വസിക്കും; ഞാന് അവന്നു ആറു മക്കളെ പ്രസവിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു ലേയാ പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു സെബൂലൂന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

20. Then said she: God hath endued me with a good dowry. Now will my husband dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons: and called his name Zabulon.

21. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അവള് ഒരു മകളെ പ്രസവിച്ചു അവള്ക്കു ദീനാ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

21. After that she bare a daughter, and called her Dina.

22. ദൈവം റാഹേലിനെ ഔര്ത്തു; ദൈവം അവളുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു അവളുടെ ഗര്ഭത്തെ തുറന്നു.

22. And God remembered Rahel, heard her, and made her fruitful:

23. അവള് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ദൈവം എന്റെ നിന്ദ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. so that she conceived and bare a son, and said God hath taken away my rebuke.

24. യഹോവ എനിക്കു ഇനിയും ഒരു മകനെ തരുമെന്നും പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു യോസേഫ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

24. And she called his name Joseph saying: The LORD(lorde) give me yet another son.

25. റാഹേല് യോസേഫിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചശേഷം യാക്കോബ് ലാബാനോടുഞാന് എന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കും ദേശത്തേക്കും പോകുവാന് എന്നെ അയക്കേണം.

25. As soon as Rahel had borne Joseph, Jacob said to Laban: Send me away that I may go unto mine own place and country,

26. ഞാന് നിന്നെ സേവിച്ചതിന്റെ പ്രതിഫലമായ എന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരേയും മക്കളെയും എനിക്കു തരേണം; ഞാന് പോകട്ടെ; ഞാന് നിന്നെ സേവിച്ച സേവ നീ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. give me my wives and my children for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest what service I have done thee.

27. ലാബാന് അവനോടുനിനക്കു എന്നോടു ദയ ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് പോകരുതേ; നിന്റെ നിമിത്തം യഹോവ എന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു എന്നു എനിക്കു ബോദ്ധ്യമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. Then said Laban unto him: If I have found favour in thy sight (for I suppose that the LORD(God) hath blessed me for thy sake)

28. നിനക്കു എന്തു പ്രതിഫലം വേണം എന്നു പറക; ഞാന് തരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. appoint what thy reward shall be, and I will give it thee.

29. അവന് അവനോടുഞാന് നിന്നെ എങ്ങനെ സേവിച്ചു എന്നും നിന്റെ ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടം എന്റെ പക്കല് എങ്ങനെ ഇരുന്നു എന്നും നീ അറിയുന്നു.

29. But he said unto him, thou knowest what service I have done thee, and in what taking thy cattle have been under me:

30. ഞാന് വരുംമുമ്പെ നിനക്കു അല്പമേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളു; ഇപ്പോള് അതു അത്യന്തം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് കാല് വെച്ചേടത്തൊക്കെയും യഹോവ നിന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇനി എന്റെ സ്വന്തഭവനത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി ഞാന് എപ്പോള് കരുതും എന്നും പറഞ്ഞു.

30. For it was but little that thou hadst before I came, and now it is increased into a multitude, and the LORD(LORDE) hath blessed thee for my sake. But now when shall I make provision for mine own house also?

31. ഞാന് നിനക്കു എന്തു തരേണം എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു യാക്കോബ് പറഞ്ഞതുനീ ഒന്നും തരേണ്ടാ; ഈ കാര്യം നീ ചെയ്തുതന്നാല് ഞാന് നിന്റെ ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടത്തെ ഇനിയും മേയിച്ചു പാലിക്കാം.

31. And he said: what shall I give thee? And Jacob answered: thou shalt give me nothing at all, if thou wilt do this one thing for me: And then will I turn again and feed thy sheep and keep them.

32. ഞാന് ഇന്നു നിന്റെ എല്ലാ കൂട്ടങ്ങളിലും കൂടി കടന്നു, അവയില്നിന്നു പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമുള്ള ആടുകളെ ഒക്കെയും ചെമ്മരിയാടുകളില് കറുത്തതിനെയൊക്കെയും കോലാടുകളില് പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമുള്ളതിനെയും വേര്തിരിക്കാം; അതു എന്റെ പ്രതിഫലമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

32. I will go about all thy sheep this day, and separate from them all the sheep that are spotted and of divers colours, and all black sheep among the lambs and the party and spotted among the kids: And then such shall be my reward.

33. നാളെ ഒരിക്കല് എന്റെ പ്രതിഫലം സംബന്ധിച്ചു നീ നോക്കുവാന് വരുമ്പോള് എന്റെ നീതി തെളിവായിരിക്കും; കോലാടുകളില് പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമില്ലാത്തതും ചെമ്മരിയാടുകളില് കറുത്തനിറമില്ലാത്തതും എല്ലാം മോഷ്ടിച്ചതായി എണ്ണാം.

33. So shall my righteousness answer for me: when the time cometh that I shall receive my reward of thee: So that whatsoever is not speckled and party among the goats and black among the lambs, let that be theft with me.

34. അതിന്നു ലാബാന് നീ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ആകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

34. Then said Laban: Lo, I am content, that it be according as thou hast said.

35. അന്നു തന്നേ അവന് വരയും മറുവുമുള്ള മുട്ടാടുകളെയും പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമുള്ള പെണ്കോലാടുകളെ ഒക്കെയും വെണ്മയുള്ളതിനെ ഒക്കെയും ചെമ്മരിയാടുകളില് കറുത്തനിറമുള്ളതിനെ ഒക്കെയും വേര്തിരിച്ചു അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

35. And he took out that same day the he goats that were party and of divers colours, and all the goats that were spotted and party coloured, and all that had white in them, and all the black among the lambs: and put them in the keeping of his sons,

36. അവന് തനിക്കും യാക്കോബിന്നും ഇടയില് മൂന്നു ദിവസത്തെ വഴിയകലം വെച്ചു; ലാബാന്റെ ശേഷമുള്ള ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടങ്ങളെ യാക്കോബ് മേയിച്ചു.

36. and set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob. And so Jacob kept the rest of Laban's sheep.

37. എന്നാല് യാക്കോബ് പുന്നവൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെയും ബദാംവൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെയും അരിഞ്ഞില്വൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെയും പച്ചക്കൊമ്പുകളെ എടുത്തു അവയില് വെള്ള കാണത്തക്കവണ്ണം വെള്ളവരയായി തോലുരിച്ചു.

37. Jacob took rods of green poplar, hazel, and of chestnut trees, and pilled white streaks in them and made the white appear in the staves:

38. ആടുകള് കുടിപ്പാന് വന്നപ്പോള് അവന് , താന് തോലുരിച്ച കൊമ്പുകളെ പാത്തികളിലും വെള്ളം പകരുന്ന തൊട്ടികളിലും ആടുകളുടെ മുമ്പില് വെച്ചു; അവ വെള്ളം കുടിപ്പാന് വന്നപ്പോള് ചനയേറ്റു.

38. And he put the staves which he had pilled, even before the sheep, in the gutters and watering troughs, when the sheep came to drink: that they should conceive when they came to drink.

39. ആടുകള് കൊമ്പുകളെ കണ്ടുകൊണ്ടു ചനയേറ്റു വരയും പുള്ളിയും മറുവുമുള്ള കുട്ടികളെ പെറ്റു.

39. And the sheep conceived before the staves, and brought forth streaked, spotted and party.

40. ആ ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടികളെ യാക്കോബ് വേര്തിരിച്ചു ആടുകളെ ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകളില് വരയും മറുവുമുള്ള എല്ലാറ്റിന്നും അഭിമുഖമായി നിര്ത്തി; തന്റെ സ്വന്തകൂട്ടങ്ങളെ ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകളോടു ചേര്ക്കാതെ വേറെയാക്കി.

40. Then Jacob parted the lambs, and turned the faces of the sheep toward spotted things, and toward all manner of black things thorow out the flocks of Laban. And he made him flocks of his own by them self, which he put not unto the flocks of Laban.

41. ബലമുള്ള ആടുകള് ചനയേലക്കുമ്പോഴൊക്കെയും കൊമ്പുകളെ കണ്ടുകൊണ്ടു ചനയേല്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യാക്കോബ് ആ കൊമ്പുകളെ പാത്തികളില് ആടുകളുടെ കണ്ണിന്നു മുമ്പില് വെച്ചു.

41. And alway in the first bucking time of the sheep, Jacob put the staves before the sheep in the gutters, that they might conceive before the staves:

42. ബലമില്ലാത്ത ആടുകള് ചനയേലക്കുമ്പോള് അവയെ വെച്ചില്ല; അങ്ങനെ ബലമില്ലാത്തവ ലാബാന്നും ബലമുള്ളവ യാക്കോബിന്നും ആയിത്തീര്ന്നു.

42. But in the latter bucking time, he put them not there: so the last brood was Laban's and the first Jacob's.

43. അവന് മഹാസമ്പന്നനായി അവന്നു വളരെ ആടുകളും ദാസീദാസന്മാരും ഒട്ടകങ്ങളും കഴുതകളും ഉണ്ടാകയും ചെയ്തു.

43. And the man became exceeding rich and had many sheep, maidservants, menservants, camels and asses.
