1. എന്നാല് യോസേഫിനെ മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവനെ അവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന യിശ്മായേല്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു ഫറവോന്റെ ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായി അകമ്പടിനായകനായ പോത്തീഫര് എന്ന ഒരു മിസ്രയീമ്യന് അവനെ വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങി.

1. Yosef was brought down to Egypt, and Potifar, an officer of Pharaoh's and captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Yishma'elim who had brought him there.

2. യഹോവ യോസേഫിനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് കൃതാര്ത്ഥനായി, മിസ്രയീമ്യനായ യജമാനന്റെ വീട്ടില് പാര്ത്തു.

2. ADONAI was with Yosef, and he became wealthy while he was in the household of his master the Egyptian.

3. യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടെന്നും അവന് ചെയ്യുന്നതൊക്കെയും യഹോവ സാധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നും അവന്റെ യജമാനന് കണ്ടു.

3. His master saw how ADONAI was with him, that ADONAI prospered everything he did.

4. അതുകൊണ്ടു യേസേഫ് അവന്നു ഇഷ്ടനായി ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്തു; അവന് അവനെ ഗൃഹവിചാരകനാക്കി, തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

4. Yosef pleased him as he served him, and his master appointed him manager of his household; he entrusted all his possessions to Yosef.

5. അവന് തന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നും തനിക്കുള്ള സകലത്തിന്നും അവനെ വിചാരകനാക്കിയതുമുതല് യഹോവ യോസേഫിന്റെ നിമിത്തം മിസ്രയീമ്യന്റെ വീട്ടിനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു; വീട്ടിലും വയലിലും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തിന്മേലും യഹോവയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം ഉണ്ടായി.

5. From the time he appointed him manager of his household and all his possessions, ADONAI blessed the Egyptian's household for Yosef's sake; ADONAI's blessing was on all he owned, whether in the house or in the field.

6. അവന് തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും യോസേഫിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; താന് ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ഭക്ഷണം ഒഴികെ അവന്റെ വൈശം ഉള്ള മറ്റു യാതൊന്നും അവന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

6. So he left all his possessions in Yosef's care; and because he had him, he paid no attention to his affairs, except for the food he ate. Now Yosef was well-built and handsome as well.

7. യോസേഫ് കോമളനും മനോഹരരൂപിയും ആയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു യജമാനന്റെ ഭാര്യ യോസേഫിന്മേല് കണ്ണു പതിച്ചുഎന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. In time, the day came when his master's wife took a look at Yosef and said, 'Sleep with me!'

8. അവന് അതിന്നു സമ്മതിക്കാതെ യജമാനന്റെ ഭാര്യയോടുഇതാ, വീട്ടില് എന്റെ കൈവശമുള്ള യാതൊന്നും എന്റെ യജമാനന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

8. But he refused, saying to his master's wife, 'Look, because my master has me, he doesn't know what's going on in this house. He has put all his possessions in my charge.

9. ഈ വീട്ടില് എന്നെക്കാള് വലിയവനില്ല; നീ അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയാകയാല് നിന്നെയല്ലാതെ മറ്റു യാതൊന്നും അവന് എനിക്കു വിരോധിച്ചിട്ടുമില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് ഈ മഹാദോഷം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു ദൈവത്തോടു പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. In this house I am his equal; he hasn't withheld anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?'

10. അവള് ദിനം പ്രതിയും യോസേഫിനോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിപ്പാനോ അവളുടെ അരികെ ഇരിപ്പാനോ അവന് അവളെ അനുസരിച്ചില്ല.

10. But she kept pressing him, day after day. Nevertheless, he didn't listen to her; he refused to sleep with her or even be with her.

11. ഒരു ദിവസം അവന് തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി ചെയ്വാന് വീട്ടിന്നകത്തു ചെന്നു; വീട്ടിലുള്ളവര് ആരും അവിടെ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

11. However, one day, when he went into the house to do his work, and none of the men living in the house was there indoors,

12. അവള് അവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം പിടിച്ചുഎന്നോടു കൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുഎന്നാല് അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം അവളുടെ കയ്യില് വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഔടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

12. she grabbed him by his robe and said, 'Sleep with me!' But he fled, leaving his robe in her hand, and got himself outside.

13. അവന് വസ്ത്രം തന്റെ കയ്യില് വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോള്,

13. When she saw that he had left his robe in her hand and had escaped,

14. അവള് വീട്ടിലുള്ളവരെ വിളിച്ചു അവരോടുകണ്ടോ, നമ്മെ ഹാസ്യമാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് ഒരു എബ്രായനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് എന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; എന്നാല് ഞാന് ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചു.

14. she called the men of her house and said to them, 'Look at this! My husband brought in a Hebrew to make fools of us. He came in and wanted to sleep with me, but I yelled out loudly.

15. ഞാന് ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചതു കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വിട്ടേച്ചു ഔടി പൊയ്ക്കളഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. When he heard me yelling like that, he left his robe with me and ran out.'

16. യജമാനന് വീട്ടില് വരുവോളം അവള് ആ വസ്ത്രം തന്റെ പക്കല് വെച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

16. She put the robe aside until his master came home.

17. അവനോടു അവള് അവ്വണം തന്നേ സംസാരിച്ചുനീ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്ന എബ്രായദാസന് എന്നെ ഹാസ്യമാക്കുവാന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

17. Then she said to him, 'This Hebrew slave you brought us came in to make a fool of me.

18. ഞാന് ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. But when I yelled out, he left his robe with me and fled outside.'

19. നിന്റെ ദാസന് ഇങ്ങനെ എന്നോടു ചെയ്തു എന്നു തന്റെ ഭാര്യ പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു യജമാനന് കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവന്നു കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു.

19. When his master heard what his wife said as she showed him, 'Here's what your slave did to me,' he became furious.

20. യോസേഫിന്റെ യജമാനന് അവനെ പിടിച്ചു രാജാവിന്റെ ബദ്ധന്മാര് കിടക്കുന്ന കാരാഗൃഹത്തില് ആക്കി; അങ്ങനെ അവന് കാരാഗൃഹത്തില് കിടന്നു.

20. Yosef's master took him and put him in prison, in the place where the king's prisoners were kept; and there he was in the prison.

21. എന്നാല് യഹോവ യോസേഫിനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു, കാരാഗൃഹപ്രമാണിക്കു അവനോടു ദയ തോന്നത്തക്കവണ്ണം അവന്നു കൃപ നല്കി.

21. But ADONAI was with Yosef, showing him grace and giving him favor in the sight of the prison warden.

22. കാരാഗൃഹത്തിലെ സകലബദ്ധന്മാരെയും കാരാഗൃഹപ്രമാണി യോസേഫിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കൊക്കെയും അവന് വിചാരകനായിരുന്നു.

22. The prison warden made Yosef supervisor of all the prisoners in the prison; so that whatever they did there, he was in charge of it.

23. യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു അവന് ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും സഫലമാക്കുകകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ കൈക്കീഴുള്ള യാതൊന്നും കാരാഗൃഹ പ്രമാണി നോക്കിയില്ല.

23. The prison warden paid no attention to anything Yosef did, because ADONAI was with him; and whatever he did, ADONAI prospered. [(vii)]
