1. എന്നാല് യോസേഫിനെ മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവനെ അവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന യിശ്മായേല്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു ഫറവോന്റെ ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായി അകമ്പടിനായകനായ പോത്തീഫര് എന്ന ഒരു മിസ്രയീമ്യന് അവനെ വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങി.

1. Now Joseph had been taken down into Egypt. Potiphar the Egyptian, one of Pharaoh's officials and commander of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there.

2. യഹോവ യോസേഫിനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് കൃതാര്ത്ഥനായി, മിസ്രയീമ്യനായ യജമാനന്റെ വീട്ടില് പാര്ത്തു.

2. Yahweh was with Joseph, and everything he undertook was successful. He lodged in the house of his Egyptian master,

3. യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടെന്നും അവന് ചെയ്യുന്നതൊക്കെയും യഹോവ സാധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നും അവന്റെ യജമാനന് കണ്ടു.

3. and when his master saw how Yahweh was with him and how Yahweh made everything he undertook successful,

4. അതുകൊണ്ടു യേസേഫ് അവന്നു ഇഷ്ടനായി ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്തു; അവന് അവനെ ഗൃഹവിചാരകനാക്കി, തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

4. he was pleased with Joseph and made him his personal attendant; and his master put him in charge of his household, entrusting him with all his possessions.

5. അവന് തന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നും തനിക്കുള്ള സകലത്തിന്നും അവനെ വിചാരകനാക്കിയതുമുതല് യഹോവ യോസേഫിന്റെ നിമിത്തം മിസ്രയീമ്യന്റെ വീട്ടിനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു; വീട്ടിലും വയലിലും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തിന്മേലും യഹോവയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം ഉണ്ടായി.

5. And from the time he put him in charge of his household and all his possessions, Yahweh blessed the Egyptian's household out of consideration for Joseph; Yahweh's blessing extended to all his possessions, both household and estate.

6. അവന് തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും യോസേഫിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; താന് ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ഭക്ഷണം ഒഴികെ അവന്റെ വൈശം ഉള്ള മറ്റു യാതൊന്നും അവന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

6. So he left Joseph to handle all his possessions, and with him there, concerned himself with nothing beyond the food he ate. Now Joseph was well built and handsome,

7. യോസേഫ് കോമളനും മനോഹരരൂപിയും ആയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു യജമാനന്റെ ഭാര്യ യോസേഫിന്മേല് കണ്ണു പതിച്ചുഎന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. and it happened some time later that his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, 'Sleep with me.'

8. അവന് അതിന്നു സമ്മതിക്കാതെ യജമാനന്റെ ഭാര്യയോടുഇതാ, വീട്ടില് എന്റെ കൈവശമുള്ള യാതൊന്നും എന്റെ യജമാനന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

8. But he refused. 'Look,' he said to his master's wife, 'with me here, my master does not concern himself with what happens in the house, having entrusted all his possessions to me.

9. ഈ വീട്ടില് എന്നെക്കാള് വലിയവനില്ല; നീ അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയാകയാല് നിന്നെയല്ലാതെ മറ്റു യാതൊന്നും അവന് എനിക്കു വിരോധിച്ചിട്ടുമില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് ഈ മഹാദോഷം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു ദൈവത്തോടു പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. He himself wields no more authority in this house than I do. He has exempted nothing from me except yourself, because you are his wife. How could I do anything so wicked, and sin against God?'

10. അവള് ദിനം പ്രതിയും യോസേഫിനോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിപ്പാനോ അവളുടെ അരികെ ഇരിപ്പാനോ അവന് അവളെ അനുസരിച്ചില്ല.

10. Although she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not agree to sleep with her or be with her.

11. ഒരു ദിവസം അവന് തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി ചെയ്വാന് വീട്ടിന്നകത്തു ചെന്നു; വീട്ടിലുള്ളവര് ആരും അവിടെ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

11. But one day when Joseph came into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the household happened to be indoors,

12. അവള് അവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം പിടിച്ചുഎന്നോടു കൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുഎന്നാല് അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം അവളുടെ കയ്യില് വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഔടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

12. she caught hold of him by his tunic and said, 'Sleep with me.' But he left the tunic in her hand, took to his heels and got out.

13. അവന് വസ്ത്രം തന്റെ കയ്യില് വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോള്,

13. When she saw that he had left the tunic in her hands as he ran out,

14. അവള് വീട്ടിലുള്ളവരെ വിളിച്ചു അവരോടുകണ്ടോ, നമ്മെ ഹാസ്യമാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് ഒരു എബ്രായനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് എന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; എന്നാല് ഞാന് ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചു.

14. she called her servants and said to them, 'Look at this! My husband brought in a Hebrew to make a fool of me! He burst in on me, but I screamed,

15. ഞാന് ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചതു കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വിട്ടേച്ചു ഔടി പൊയ്ക്കളഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. and when he heard me scream, he left his tunic beside me and ran out of the house.'

16. യജമാനന് വീട്ടില് വരുവോളം അവള് ആ വസ്ത്രം തന്റെ പക്കല് വെച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

16. She kept his tunic by her until his master came home.

17. അവനോടു അവള് അവ്വണം തന്നേ സംസാരിച്ചുനീ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്ന എബ്രായദാസന് എന്നെ ഹാസ്യമാക്കുവാന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

17. Then she told him the same tale, 'The Hebrew slave you brought to us burst in on me to make a fool of me.

18. ഞാന് ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. But when I screamed, he left his tunic beside me and ran away.'

19. നിന്റെ ദാസന് ഇങ്ങനെ എന്നോടു ചെയ്തു എന്നു തന്റെ ഭാര്യ പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു യജമാനന് കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവന്നു കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു.

19. When his master heard his wife say, 'This was how your slave treated me,' he became furious.

20. യോസേഫിന്റെ യജമാനന് അവനെ പിടിച്ചു രാജാവിന്റെ ബദ്ധന്മാര് കിടക്കുന്ന കാരാഗൃഹത്തില് ആക്കി; അങ്ങനെ അവന് കാരാഗൃഹത്തില് കിടന്നു.

20. Joseph's master had him arrested and committed to the gaol where the king's prisoners were kept. And there in gaol he stayed.

21. എന്നാല് യഹോവ യോസേഫിനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു, കാരാഗൃഹപ്രമാണിക്കു അവനോടു ദയ തോന്നത്തക്കവണ്ണം അവന്നു കൃപ നല്കി.

21. But Yahweh was with Joseph. He showed him faithful love and made him popular with the chief gaoler.

22. കാരാഗൃഹത്തിലെ സകലബദ്ധന്മാരെയും കാരാഗൃഹപ്രമാണി യോസേഫിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കൊക്കെയും അവന് വിചാരകനായിരുന്നു.

22. The chief gaoler put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners in the gaol, making him responsible for everything done there.

23. യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു അവന് ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും സഫലമാക്കുകകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ കൈക്കീഴുള്ള യാതൊന്നും കാരാഗൃഹ പ്രമാണി നോക്കിയില്ല.

23. The chief gaoler did not bother about anything put in his charge, since Yahweh was with him, and Yahweh made everything he undertook successful.
