1. കലഹത്തോടുകൂടി ഒരു വീടു നിറയെ യാഗഭോജനത്തിലും സ്വസ്ഥതയോടുകൂടി ഒരു കഷണം ഉണങ്ങിയ അപ്പം ഏറ്റവും നല്ലതു.

1. Better a dry crust with peace than a house full of feasting with strife.

2. നാണംകെട്ട മകന്റെമേല് ബുദ്ധിമാനായ ദാസന് കര്ത്തൃത്വം നടത്തും; സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് അവകാശം പ്രാപിക്കും.

4. ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി നീതികെട്ട അധരങ്ങള്ക്കു ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കുന്നു; വ്യാജം പറയുന്നവന് വഷളത്വമുള്ള നാവിന്നു ചെവികൊടുക്കുന്നു.

4. A wicked person listens to malicious talk; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue.

5. ദരിദ്രനെ പരിഹസിക്കുന്നവന് അവന്റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവിനെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നു; ആപത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നവന്നു ശിക്ഷ വരാതിരിക്കയില്ല.

5. The one who mocks the poor insults his Maker, and one who rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

13. ഒരുത്തന് നന്മെക്കു പകരം തിന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന്റെ ഭവനത്തെ തിന്മ വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

13. If anyone returns evil for good, evil will never depart from his house.

14. കലഹത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം മടവെട്ടി വെള്ളം വിടുന്നതുപോലെ; ആകയാല് കലഹമാകുംമുമ്പെ തര്ക്കം നിര്ത്തിക്കളക.

17. സ്നേഹിതന് എല്ലാകാലത്തും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തു അവന് സഹോദരനായ്തീരുന്നു.

17. A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a difficult time.

18. ബുദ്ധിഹീനനായ മനുഷ്യന് കയ്യടിച്ചു കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നു.

18. One without sense enters an agreement and puts up security for his friend.

19. കലഹപ്രിയന് ലംഘനപ്രിയന് ആകുന്നു; പടിവാതില് പൊക്കത്തില് പണിയുന്നവന് ഇടിവു ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

19. One who loves to offend loves strife; one who builds a high threshold invites injury.

20. വക്രഹൃദയമുള്ളവന് നന്മ കാണുകയില്ല; വികട നാവുള്ളവന് ആപത്തില് അകപ്പെടും.

21. ഭോഷനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചവന്നു അതു ഖേദകാരണമാകും; മൂഢന്റെ അപ്പന്നു സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല.

21. A man fathers a fool to his own sorrow; the father of a fool has no joy.

22. സന്തുഷ്ടഹൃദയം നല്ലോരു ഔഷധമാകുന്നു; തകര്ന്ന മനസ്സോ അസ്ഥികളെ ഉണക്കുന്നു.

22. A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.

23. ദുഷ്ടന് ന്യായത്തിന്റെ വഴികളെ മറിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നു.

23. A wicked man secretly takes a bribe to subvert the course of justice.

24. ജ്ഞാനം ബുദ്ധിമാന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്റെ കണ്ണോ ഭൂമിയുടെ അറുതികളിലേക്കു നോക്കുന്നു.

24. Wisdom is the focus of the perceptive, but a fool's eyes roam to the ends of the earth.

25. മൂഢനായ മകന് അപ്പന്നു വ്യസനവും തന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള്ക്കു കൈപ്പും ആകുന്നു.

25. A foolish son is grief to his father and bitterness to the one who bore him.

26. നീതിമാന്നു പിഴ കല്പിക്കുന്നതും ശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാരെ നേര്നിമിത്തം അടിക്കുന്നതും നന്നല്ല.

26. It is certainly not good to fine an innocent person, or to beat a noble for his honesty.

27. വാക്കു അടക്കിവെക്കുന്നവന് പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ; ശാന്തമാനസന് ബുദ്ധിമാന് തന്നേ.

27. The intelligent person restrains his words, and one who keeps a cool head is a man of understanding.

28. മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നാല് ഭോഷനെപ്പോലും ജ്ഞാനിയായും അധരം അടെച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് വിവേകിയായും എണ്ണും.

28. Even a fool is considered wise when he keeps silent, discerning, when he seals his lips.
