1. കലഹത്തോടുകൂടി ഒരു വീടു നിറയെ യാഗഭോജനത്തിലും സ്വസ്ഥതയോടുകൂടി ഒരു കഷണം ഉണങ്ങിയ അപ്പം ഏറ്റവും നല്ലതു.

1. Better is a dry crust of bread where there is quietness than a house full of feasting with strife.

2. നാണംകെട്ട മകന്റെമേല് ബുദ്ധിമാനായ ദാസന് കര്ത്തൃത്വം നടത്തും; സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് അവകാശം പ്രാപിക്കും.

2. A servant who acts wisely will rule over an heir who behaves shamefully, and will share the inheritance along with the relatives.

3. വെള്ളിക്കു പുടം, പൊന്നിന്നു മൂശ; ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ ശോധന ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ യഹോവ.

3. The crucible is for refining silver and the furnace is for gold, likewise the LORD tests hearts.

4. ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി നീതികെട്ട അധരങ്ങള്ക്കു ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കുന്നു; വ്യാജം പറയുന്നവന് വഷളത്വമുള്ള നാവിന്നു ചെവികൊടുക്കുന്നു.

4. One who acts wickedly pays attention to evil counsel; a liar listens to a malicious tongue.

5. ദരിദ്രനെ പരിഹസിക്കുന്നവന് അവന്റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവിനെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നു; ആപത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നവന്നു ശിക്ഷ വരാതിരിക്കയില്ല.

5. The one who mocks the poor insults his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

6. മക്കളുടെ മക്കള് വൃദ്ധന്മാര്ക്കും കിരീടമാകുന്നു; മക്കളുടെ മഹത്വം അവരുടെ അപ്പന്മാര് തന്നേ.

6. Grandchildren are like a crown to the elderly, and the glory of children is their parents.

7. സുഭാഷിതം പറയുന്ന അധരം ഭോഷന്നു യോഗ്യമല്ല; വ്യാജമുള്ള അധരം ഒരു പ്രഭുവിന്നു എങ്ങിനെ?

7. Excessive speech is not becoming for a fool; how much less are lies for a ruler!

8. സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നവന്നു അതു രത്നമായി തോന്നും; അതു ചെല്ലുന്നെടത്തൊക്കെയും കാര്യം സാധിക്കും.

8. A bribe works like a charm for the one who offers it; in whatever he does he succeeds.

9. സ്നേഹം തേടുന്നവന് ലംഘനം മറെച്ചുവെക്കുന്നു; കാര്യം പാട്ടാക്കുന്നവനോ മിത്രങ്ങളെ ഭേദിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

9. The one who forgives an offense seeks love, but whoever repeats a matter separates close friends.

10. ഭോഷനെ നൂറു അടിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് ബുദ്ധിമാനെ ഒന്നു ശാസിക്കുന്നതു അധികം ഫലിക്കും.

10. A rebuke makes a greater impression on a discerning person than a hundred blows on a fool.

11. മത്സരക്കാരന് ദോഷം മാത്രം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു; ക്രൂരനായോരു ദൂതനെ അവന്റെ നേരെ അയക്കും.

11. An evil person seeks only rebellion, and so a cruel messenger will be sent against him.

12. മൂഢനെ അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വത്തില് എതിരിടുന്നതിനെക്കാള് കുട്ടികള് കാണാതെപോയ കരടിയെ എതിരിടുന്നതു ഭേദം.

12. It is better for a person to meet a mother bear being robbed of her cubs, than to encounter a fool in his folly.

13. ഒരുത്തന് നന്മെക്കു പകരം തിന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന്റെ ഭവനത്തെ തിന്മ വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

13. As for the one who repays evil for good, evil will not leave his house.

14. കലഹത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം മടവെട്ടി വെള്ളം വിടുന്നതുപോലെ; ആകയാല് കലഹമാകുംമുമ്പെ തര്ക്കം നിര്ത്തിക്കളക.

14. Starting a quarrel is like letting out water; stop it before strife breaks out!

15. ദുഷ്ടനെ നീതീകരിക്കുന്നവനും നീതിമാനെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നവനും രണ്ടുപേരും യഹോവേക്കു വെറുപ്പു.

15. The one who acquits the guilty and the one who condemns the innocent both of them are an abomination to the LORD.

16. മൂഢന്നു ബുദ്ധിയില്ലാതിരിക്കെ ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ദ്രവ്യം എന്തിനു?

16. Of what use is money in the hand of a fool, since he has no intention of acquiring wisdom?

17. സ്നേഹിതന് എല്ലാകാലത്തും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തു അവന് സഹോദരനായ്തീരുന്നു.

17. A friend loves at all times, and a relative is born to help in adversity.

18. ബുദ്ധിഹീനനായ മനുഷ്യന് കയ്യടിച്ചു കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നു.

18. The one who lacks wisdom strikes hands in pledge, and puts up financial security for his neighbor.

19. കലഹപ്രിയന് ലംഘനപ്രിയന് ആകുന്നു; പടിവാതില് പൊക്കത്തില് പണിയുന്നവന് ഇടിവു ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

19. The one who loves a quarrel loves transgression; whoever builds his gate high seeks destruction.

20. വക്രഹൃദയമുള്ളവന് നന്മ കാണുകയില്ല; വികട നാവുള്ളവന് ആപത്തില് അകപ്പെടും.

20. The one who has a perverse heart does not find good, and the one who is deceitful in speech falls into trouble.

21. ഭോഷനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചവന്നു അതു ഖേദകാരണമാകും; മൂഢന്റെ അപ്പന്നു സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല.

21. Whoever brings a fool into the world does so to his grief, and the father of a fool has no joy.

22. സന്തുഷ്ടഹൃദയം നല്ലോരു ഔഷധമാകുന്നു; തകര്ന്ന മനസ്സോ അസ്ഥികളെ ഉണക്കുന്നു.

22. A cheerful heart brings good healing, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

23. ദുഷ്ടന് ന്യായത്തിന്റെ വഴികളെ മറിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നു.

23. A wicked person receives a bribe secretly to pervert the ways of justice.

24. ജ്ഞാനം ബുദ്ധിമാന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്റെ കണ്ണോ ഭൂമിയുടെ അറുതികളിലേക്കു നോക്കുന്നു.

24. Wisdom is directly in front of the discerning person, but the eyes of a fool run to the ends of the earth.

25. മൂഢനായ മകന് അപ്പന്നു വ്യസനവും തന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള്ക്കു കൈപ്പും ആകുന്നു.

25. A foolish child is a grief to his father, and bitterness to the mother who bore him.

26. നീതിമാന്നു പിഴ കല്പിക്കുന്നതും ശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാരെ നേര്നിമിത്തം അടിക്കുന്നതും നന്നല്ല.

26. It is terrible to punish a righteous person, and to flog honorable men is wrong.

27. വാക്കു അടക്കിവെക്കുന്നവന് പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ; ശാന്തമാനസന് ബുദ്ധിമാന് തന്നേ.

27. The truly wise person restrains his words, and the one who stays calm is discerning.

28. മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നാല് ഭോഷനെപ്പോലും ജ്ഞാനിയായും അധരം അടെച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് വിവേകിയായും എണ്ണും.

28. Even a fool who remains silent is considered wise, and the one who holds his tongue is deemed discerning.
