1. കലഹത്തോടുകൂടി ഒരു വീടു നിറയെ യാഗഭോജനത്തിലും സ്വസ്ഥതയോടുകൂടി ഒരു കഷണം ഉണങ്ങിയ അപ്പം ഏറ്റവും നല്ലതു.

1. Better is a dry piece of bread, and quietness with it, than a house full of sacrifices with fighting.

2. നാണംകെട്ട മകന്റെമേല് ബുദ്ധിമാനായ ദാസന് കര്ത്തൃത്വം നടത്തും; സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് അവകാശം പ്രാപിക്കും.

2. A servant who acts prudently shall rule over a son who causes shame, and he shall have part of the inheritance among the brothers.

3. വെള്ളിക്കു പുടം, പൊന്നിന്നു മൂശ; ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ ശോധന ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ യഹോവ.

3. The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Jehovah tries the hearts.

4. ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി നീതികെട്ട അധരങ്ങള്ക്കു ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കുന്നു; വ്യാജം പറയുന്നവന് വഷളത്വമുള്ള നാവിന്നു ചെവികൊടുക്കുന്നു.

4. An evildoer gives heed to lips of iniquity; a liar listens to a tongue of evil desire.

5. ദരിദ്രനെ പരിഹസിക്കുന്നവന് അവന്റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവിനെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നു; ആപത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നവന്നു ശിക്ഷ വരാതിരിക്കയില്ല.

5. Whoever scorns the poor reviles his Maker, he who rejoices at calamity shall not be innocent.

6. മക്കളുടെ മക്കള് വൃദ്ധന്മാര്ക്കും കിരീടമാകുന്നു; മക്കളുടെ മഹത്വം അവരുടെ അപ്പന്മാര് തന്നേ.

6. Grandsons are the crown of old men, and the glory of sons are their fathers.

7. സുഭാഷിതം പറയുന്ന അധരം ഭോഷന്നു യോഗ്യമല്ല; വ്യാജമുള്ള അധരം ഒരു പ്രഭുവിന്നു എങ്ങിനെ?

7. An arrogant lip is not fitting for a fool, much less are lying lips for a noble.

8. സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നവന്നു അതു രത്നമായി തോന്നും; അതു ചെല്ലുന്നെടത്തൊക്കെയും കാര്യം സാധിക്കും.

8. A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who possesses it; everywhere he turns, he is prudent.

9. സ്നേഹം തേടുന്നവന് ലംഘനം മറെച്ചുവെക്കുന്നു; കാര്യം പാട്ടാക്കുന്നവനോ മിത്രങ്ങളെ ഭേദിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

9. He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates friends.

10. ഭോഷനെ നൂറു അടിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് ബുദ്ധിമാനെ ഒന്നു ശാസിക്കുന്നതു അധികം ഫലിക്കും.

10. A reproof enters more into one discerning than a hundred stripes into a fool.

11. മത്സരക്കാരന് ദോഷം മാത്രം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു; ക്രൂരനായോരു ദൂതനെ അവന്റെ നേരെ അയക്കും.

11. Rebellion seeks evil, so a cruel messenger is sent against him.

12. മൂഢനെ അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വത്തില് എതിരിടുന്നതിനെക്കാള് കുട്ടികള് കാണാതെപോയ കരടിയെ എതിരിടുന്നതു ഭേദം.

12. Let a bear bereaved of her cubs meet a man, rather than a fool in his foolishness.

13. ഒരുത്തന് നന്മെക്കു പകരം തിന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന്റെ ഭവനത്തെ തിന്മ വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

13. Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

14. കലഹത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം മടവെട്ടി വെള്ളം വിടുന്നതുപോലെ; ആകയാല് കലഹമാകുംമുമ്പെ തര്ക്കം നിര്ത്തിക്കളക.

14. The beginning of strife is like the releasing of water, therefore leave off fighting before it breaks out.

15. ദുഷ്ടനെ നീതീകരിക്കുന്നവനും നീതിമാനെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നവനും രണ്ടുപേരും യഹോവേക്കു വെറുപ്പു.

15. He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, even both of them are disgusting to Jehovah.

16. മൂഢന്നു ബുദ്ധിയില്ലാതിരിക്കെ ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ദ്രവ്യം എന്തിനു?

16. Why is there hire in a fool's hand to get wisdom, and there is no heart for it?

17. സ്നേഹിതന് എല്ലാകാലത്തും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തു അവന് സഹോദരനായ്തീരുന്നു.

17. A friend loves at every time, but a brother is born for distress.

18. ബുദ്ധിഹീനനായ മനുഷ്യന് കയ്യടിച്ചു കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നു.

18. A man lacking heart strikes the hand, he pledges in the presence of his friend.

19. കലഹപ്രിയന് ലംഘനപ്രിയന് ആകുന്നു; പടിവാതില് പൊക്കത്തില് പണിയുന്നവന് ഇടിവു ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

19. He loving strife loves rebellion, he who exalts his door seeks shattering.

20. വക്രഹൃദയമുള്ളവന് നന്മ കാണുകയില്ല; വികട നാവുള്ളവന് ആപത്തില് അകപ്പെടും.

20. One crooked of heart does not find good, and he who is perverse in his tongue falls into evil.

21. ഭോഷനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചവന്നു അതു ഖേദകാരണമാകും; മൂഢന്റെ അപ്പന്നു സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല.

21. He who fathers a fool has sorrow for it; yea, the father of a fool has no joy.

22. സന്തുഷ്ടഹൃദയം നല്ലോരു ഔഷധമാകുന്നു; തകര്ന്ന മനസ്സോ അസ്ഥികളെ ഉണക്കുന്നു.

22. A cheerful heart makes good healing, but a stricken spirit dries the bone.

23. ദുഷ്ടന് ന്യായത്തിന്റെ വഴികളെ മറിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നു.

23. The wicked takes a bribe out of the bosom to pervert the paths of justice.

24. ജ്ഞാനം ബുദ്ധിമാന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്റെ കണ്ണോ ഭൂമിയുടെ അറുതികളിലേക്കു നോക്കുന്നു.

24. With the face of the wise is wisdom, but a fool's eyes are in the ends of the earth.

25. മൂഢനായ മകന് അപ്പന്നു വ്യസനവും തന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള്ക്കു കൈപ്പും ആകുന്നു.

25. A foolish son is a vexation to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.

26. നീതിമാന്നു പിഴ കല്പിക്കുന്നതും ശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാരെ നേര്നിമിത്തം അടിക്കുന്നതും നന്നല്ല.

26. And it is not good to punish the just, to strike leaders for uprightness.

27. വാക്കു അടക്കിവെക്കുന്നവന് പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ; ശാന്തമാനസന് ബുദ്ധിമാന് തന്നേ.

27. He who restrains his words knows knowledge, and one cool of spirit is a man of understanding.

28. മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നാല് ഭോഷനെപ്പോലും ജ്ഞാനിയായും അധരം അടെച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് വിവേകിയായും എണ്ണും.

28. Even a fool who is silent is counted wise, he who shuts his lips is counted as discerning.
