1. അനവധിസമ്പത്തിലും സല്കീര്ത്തിയും വെള്ളിയിലും പൊന്നിലും കൃപയും നല്ലതു.

1. A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold.

2. ധനവാനും ദരിദ്രനും തമ്മില് കാണുന്നു; അവരെ ഒക്കെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയവന് യഹോവ തന്നേ.

2. The rich and the poor meet together. LORD is the maker of them all.

3. വിവേകമുള്ളവന് അനര്ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.

3. A prudent man sees the evil, and hides himself, but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

4. താഴ്മെക്കും യഹോവഭക്തിക്കും ഉള്ള പ്രതിഫലം ധനവും മാനവും ജീവനും ആകുന്നു.

4. The reward of humility and the fear of LORD is riches and honor and life.

5. വക്രന്റെ വഴിയില് മുള്ളും കുടുക്കും ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ പ്രാണനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് അവയോടു അകന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ.

5. Thorns and snares are in the way of a perverse man. He who keeps his soul shall be far from them.

6. ബാലന് നടക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വഴിയില് അവനെ അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്ക; അവന് വൃദ്ധനായാലും അതു വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

6. Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it.

7. ധനവാന് ദരിദ്രന്മാരെ ഭരിക്കുന്നു; കടം മേടിക്കുന്നവന് കടം കൊടുക്കുന്നവന്നു ദാസന് .

7. The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

8. നീതികേടു വിതെക്കുന്നവന് ആപത്തു കൊയ്യും; അവന്റെ കോപത്തിന്റെ വടി ഇല്ലാതെയാകും.

8. He who sows iniquity shall reap calamity, and the rod of his wrath shall fail.

9. ദയാകടാക്ഷമുള്ളവന് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടും; അവന് തന്റെ ആഹാരത്തില്നിന്നു അഗതിക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

9. He who has a bountiful eye shall be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.

10. പരിഹാസിയെ നീക്കിക്കളക; അപ്പോള് പിണക്കം പോയ്ക്കൊള്ളും; കലഹവും നിന്ദയും നിന്നുപോകും.

10. Cast out the scoffer, and contention will go out, yea, strife and reproach will cease.

11. ഹൃദയശുദ്ധി ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവന്നു അധരലാവണ്യം ഉണ്ടു; രാജാവു അവന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന് .

11. He who loves pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips, the king will be his friend.

12. യഹോവയുടെ കണ്ണു പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവനെ കാക്കുന്നു; ദ്രോഹികളുടെ വാക്കോ അവന് മറിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.

12. The eyes of LORD preserve knowledge, but he overthrows the words of the treacherous man.

13. വെളിയില് സിംഹം ഉണ്ടു, വീഥിയില് എനിക്കു ജീവഹാനി വരും എന്നു മടിയന് പറയുന്നു.

13. The sluggard says, There is a lion outside. I shall be slain in the streets.

14. പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ വായ് ആഴമുള്ള കുഴി ആകുന്നു; യഹോവയാല് ത്യജിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് അതില് വീഴും.

14. The mouth of interloping women is a deep pit. He who is abhorred of LORD shall fall in it.

15. ബാലന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തോടു ഭോഷത്വം പറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ശിക്ഷെക്കുള്ള വടി അതിനെ അവനില് നിന്നു അകറ്റിക്കളയും.

15. Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16. ആദായം ഉണ്ടാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എളിയവനെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നവനും ധനവാന്നു കൊടുക്കുന്നവനും മുട്ടുള്ളവനായ്തീരും.

16. He who oppresses a poor man to his increase, and he who gives to a rich man, comes only to want.

17. ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ ചെവിചായിച്ചു കേള്ക്കുക; എന്റെ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്നു മനസ്സുവെക്കുക.

17. Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart to my knowledge.

18. അവയെ നിന്റെ ഉള്ളില് സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നതും നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങളില് അവ ഒക്കെയും ഉറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും മനോഹരം.

18. For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee, if they be established together upon thy lips.

19. നിന്റെ ആശ്രയം യഹോവയില് ആയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് ഇന്നു നിന്നോടു, നിന്നോടു തന്നേ, ഉപദേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. That thy trust may be in LORD, I have made them known to thee this day, even to thee.

20. നിന്നെ അയച്ചവര്ക്കും നീ നേരുള്ള മറുപടി കൊണ്ടുപോകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിനക്കു നേരുള്ള മറുപടിയുടെ നിശ്ചയം അറിയിച്ചുതരുവാന്

20. Have I not written to thee excellent things of counsels and knowledge,

21. ആലോചനയും പരിജ്ഞാനവും അടങ്ങിയ സാരസംഗതികളെ ഞാന് നിനക്കു എഴുതീട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.

21. to make thee know the certainty of the words of truth, that thou may carry back words of truth to those who send thee?

22. എളിയവനോടു അവന് എളിയവനാകകൊണ്ടു കവര്ച്ച ചെയ്യരുതു; അരിഷ്ടനെ പടിവാതില്ക്കല്വെച്ചു പീഡിപ്പിക്കയും അരുതു.

22. Do not rob a poor man, because he is poor, nor oppress an afflicted man in the gate.

23. യഹോവ അവരുടെ വ്യവഹാരം നടത്തും; അവരെ കൊള്ളയിട്ടവരുടെ ജീവനെ കൊള്ളയിടും.

23. For LORD will plead their cause, and despoil of life those who despoil them.

24. കോപശീലനോടു സഖിത്വമരുതു; ക്രോധമുള്ള മനുഷ്യനോടുകൂടെ നടക്കയും അരുതു.

24. Make no friendship with a man who is given to anger, and thou shall not go with a wrathful man,

25. നീ അവന്റെ വഴികളെ പഠിപ്പാനും നിന്റെ പ്രാണന് കണിയില് അകപ്പെടുവാനും സംഗതി വരരുതു.

25. lest thou learn this ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

26. നീ കയ്യടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും കടത്തിന്നു ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും ആയ്പോകരുതു.

26. Be thou not one of those who strike hands, or of those who are sureties for debts.

27. വീട്ടുവാന് നിനക്കു വകയില്ലാതെ വന്നിട്ടു നിന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു നിന്റെ മെത്ത എടുത്തുകളവാന് ഇടവരുത്തുന്നതു എന്തിനു?

27. If thou have not wherewith to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28. നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന പണ്ടത്തെ അതിര് നീ മാറ്റരുതു.

28. Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

29. പ്രവൃത്തിയില് സാമര്ത്ഥ്യമുള്ള പുരുഷനെ നീ കാണുന്നുവോ? അവന് രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പില് നിലക്കും; നീചന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പില് അവന് നില്ക്കയില്ല.

29. See thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before obscure men.
