1. വേനല്കാലത്തു ഹിമവും കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തു മഴയും എന്നപോലെ ഭോഷന്നു ബഹുമാനം പൊരുത്തമല്ല.

1. Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.

2. കുരികില് പാറിപ്പോകുന്നതും മീവല്പക്ഷിപറന്നുപോകുന്നതും പോലെ കാരണം കൂടാതെ ശാപം പറ്റുകയില്ല.

2. Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, a curse that is causeless does not alight.

3. കുതിരെക്കു ചമ്മട്ടി, കഴുതെക്കു കടിഞ്ഞാണ്, മൂഢന്മാരുടെ മുതുകിന്നു വടി.

3. A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.

4. നീയും മൂഢനെപ്പോലെ ആകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വംപോലെ അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറയരുതു.

7. മൂഢന്മാരുടെ വായിലെ സദൃശവാക്യം മുടന്തന്റെ കാല് ഞാന്നു കിടക്കുന്നതുപോലെ.

8. മൂഢന്നു ബഹുമാനം കൊടുക്കുന്നതു കവിണയില് കല്ലു കെട്ടി മുറുക്കുന്നതുപോലെ.

8. Like one who binds the stone in the sling is he who gives honor to a fool.

9. മൂഢന്മാരുടെ വായിലെ സദൃശവാക്യം മത്തന്റെ കയ്യിലെ മുള്ളുപോലെ.

9. Like a thorn that goes up into the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

10. എല്ലാവരെയും മുറിവേല്പിക്കുന്ന വില്ലാളിയും മൂഢനെ കൂലിക്കു നിര്ത്തുന്നവനും കണ്ടവരെ കൂലിക്കു നിര്ത്തുന്നവനും ഒരുപോലെ.

10. Like an archer who wounds everybody is he who hires a passing fool or drunkard.

11. നായി ഛര്ദ്ദിച്ചതിലേക്കു വീണ്ടും തിരിയുന്നതും മൂഢന് തന്റെ ഭോഷത്വം ആവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതും ഒരുപോലെ.

12. തനിക്കുതന്നേ ജ്ഞാനിയെന്നു തോന്നുന്ന മനുഷ്യനെ നീ കാണുന്നുവോ? അവനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ളതിനെക്കാളും മൂഢനെക്കുറിച്ചു അധികം പ്രത്യാശയുണ്ടു.

12. Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

13. വഴിയില് കേസരി ഉണ്ടു, തെരുക്കളില് സിംഹം ഉണ്ടു എന്നിങ്ങനെ മടിയന് പറയുന്നു.

14. കതകു ചുഴിക്കുറ്റിയില് എന്നപോലെ മടിയന് തന്റെ കിടക്കയില് തിരിയുന്നു.

14. As a door turns on its hinges, so does a sluggard on his bed.

15. മടിയന് തന്റെ കൈ തളികയില് പൂത്തുന്നു; വായിലേക്കു തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതു അവന്നു പ്രയാസം.

15. The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; it wears him out to bring it back to his mouth.

16. ബുദ്ധിയോടെ പ്രതിവാദിപ്പാന് പ്രാപ്തിയുള്ള ഏഴു പേരിലും താന് ജ്ഞാനി എന്നു മടിയന്നു തോന്നുന്നു.

16. The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer discreetly.

17. തന്നെ സംബന്ധിക്കാത്ത വഴക്കില് ഇടപെടുന്നവന് വഴിയെപോകുന്ന നായുടെ ചെവിക്കു പിടിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെ.

17. He who meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears.

18. കൂട്ടുകാരനെ വഞ്ചിച്ചിട്ടു അതു കളി എന്നു പറയുന്ന മനുഷ്യന്

18. Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death,

19. തീക്കൊള്ളികളും അമ്പുകളും മരണവും എറിയുന്ന ഭ്രാന്തനെപ്പോലെയാകുന്നു.

19. is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, 'I am only joking!'

20. വിറകു ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞാല് തീ കെട്ടു പോകും; നുണയന് ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞാല് വഴക്കും ഇല്ലാതെയാകും.

20. For lack of wood the fire goes out; and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.

21. കരി കനലിന്നും വിറകു തീക്കും എന്നപോലെ വഴക്കുകാരന് കലഹം ജ്വലിക്കുന്നതിന്നു കാരണം.

21. As charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.

22. ഏഷണിക്കാരന്റെ വാക്കു സ്വാദുഭോജനംപോലെ; അതു വയറ്റിന്റെ അറകളിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുന്നു.

22. The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body.

23. സ്നേഹം ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന അധരവും ദുഷ്ടഹൃദയവും വെള്ളിക്കീടം പൊതിഞ്ഞ മണ്കുടംപോലെയാകുന്നു.

23. Like the glaze covering an earthen vessel are smooth lips with an evil heart.

24. പകെക്കുന്നവന് അധരംകൊണ്ടു വേഷം ധരിക്കുന്നു; ഉള്ളിലോ അവന് ചതിവു സംഗ്രഹിച്ചു വെക്കുന്നു.

24. He who hates, dissembles with his lips and harbors deceit in his heart;

25. അവന് ഇമ്പമായി സംസാരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവനെ വിശ്വസിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് ഏഴു വെറുപ്പു ഉണ്ടു.

25. when he speaks graciously, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart;

26. അവന്റെ പക കപടംകൊണ്ടു മറെച്ചു വെച്ചാലും അവന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത സഭയുടെ മുമ്പില് വെളിപ്പെട്ടുവരും.

26. though his hatred be covered with guile, his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

27. കുഴി കുഴിക്കുന്നവന് അതില് വീഴും; കല്ലു ഉരുട്ടുന്നവന്റെമേല് അതു തിരിഞ്ഞുരുളും.

27. He who digs a pit will fall into it, and a stone will come back upon him who starts it rolling.

28. ഭോഷകു പറയുന്ന നാവു അതിനാല് തകര്ന്നവരെ ദ്വേഷിക്കുന്നു; മുഖസ്തുതി പറയുന്ന വായി നാശം വരുത്തുന്നു.

28. A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth works ruin.
