1. നല്ല പേര് സുഗന്ധതൈലത്തെക്കാളും മരണദിവസം ജനനദിവസത്തെക്കാളും ഉത്തമം.

1. A good name is better than good oil; and the day of death than the day of birth.

2. വിരുന്നുവീട്ടില് പോകുന്നതിനെക്കാള് വിലാപഭവനത്തില് പോകുന്നതു നല്ലതു; അതല്ലോ സകലമനുഷ്യരുടെയും അവസാനം; ജീവച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന് അതു ഹൃദയത്തില് കരുതിക്കൊള്ളും.

2. [It is] better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the banquet house. Since this is the end of every man, and the living man will apply good [warning] to his heart.

3. ചിരിയെക്കാള് വ്യസനം നല്ലതു മുഖം വാടിയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഹൃദയം സുഖമായിരിക്കും.

3. Sorrow is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the countenance the heart will be made better.

4. ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ ഹൃദയം വിലാപഭവനത്തില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയമോ സന്തോഷഭവനത്തിലത്രേ.

4. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.

5. മൂഢന്റെ ഗീതം കേള്ക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ശാസന കേള്ക്കുന്നതു മനുഷ്യന്നു നല്ലതു.

5. [It is] better to hear a reproof of a wise man, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

6. മൂഢന്റെ ചിരി കലത്തിന്റെ കീഴെ കത്തുന്ന മുള്ളിന്റെ പൊടുപൊടുപ്പുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അതും മായ അത്രേ.

6. As the sound of thorns under a caldron, so is the laughter of fools. This is also vanity.

7. കോഴ ജ്ഞാനിയെ പൊട്ടനാക്കുന്നു; കൈക്കൂലി ഹൃദയത്തെ കെടുത്തുകളയുന്നു.

7. For oppression makes a wise man mad, and destroys his noble heart.

8. ഒരു കാര്യത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തെക്കാള് അതിന്റെ അവസാനം നല്ലതു; ഗര്വ്വമാനസനെക്കാള് ക്ഷമാമാനസന് ശ്രേഷ്ഠന് .

8. The end of a matter is better than the beginning thereof; the patient is better than the high-minded.

9. നിന്റെ മനസ്സില് അത്ര വേഗം നീരസം ഉണ്ടാകരുതു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ മാര്വ്വില് അല്ലോ നീരസം വസിക്കുന്നതു.

9. Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry; for anger will rest in the bosom of fools.

10. പണ്ടത്തേ കാലം ഇപ്പോഴത്തേതിനെക്കാള് നന്നായിരുന്നതിന്റെ കാരണം എന്തു എന്നു നീ ചോദിക്കരുതു; നീ അങ്ങനെ ചോദിക്കുന്നതു ജ്ഞാനമല്ലല്ലോ.

10. Do not say, What has happened, that the former days were better than these? For you do not inquire wisely concerning this.

11. ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു അവകാശംപോലെ നല്ലതു; സകലഭൂവാസികള്ക്കും അതു ബഹുവിശേഷം.

11. Wisdom is good with an inheritance; and [there is] an advantage [by it] to them that see the sun.

12. ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു ശരണം, ദ്രവ്യവും ഒരു ശരണം; ജ്ഞാനമോ ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജീവനെ പാലിക്കുന്നു; ഇതത്രേ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വിശേഷത.

12. For wisdom in its shadow is as the shadow of silver, and the excellence of the knowledge of wisdom will give life to him that has it.

13. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയെ നോക്കുക; അവന് വളെച്ചതിനെ നേരെയാക്കുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

13. Behold the works of God; for who shall be able to straighten him whom God has made crooked?

14. സുഖകാലത്തു സുഖമായിരിക്ക; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തോ ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊള്ക; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ശേഷം വരുവാനുള്ളതൊന്നും ആരാഞ്ഞറിയാതെയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം രണ്ടിനെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. In the day of prosperity live joyfully, and consider in the day of adversity. Consider, [I say], God also has caused the one to agree with the other for [this] reason, that man should find nothing after him.

15. ഞാന് എന്റെ മായാകാലത്തു ഇതൊക്കെയും കണ്ടുതന്റെ നീതിയില് നശിച്ചുപോകുന്ന നീതിമാന് ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ ദുഷ്ടതയില് ദിര്ഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കുന്ന ദുഷ്ടനും ഉണ്ടു.

15. I have seen all things in the days of my vanity; there is a just man perishing in his justice, and there is an ungodly man remaining in his wickedness.

16. അതിനീതിമാനായിരിക്കരുതു; അതിജ്ഞാനിയായിരിക്കയും അരുതു; നിന്നെ നീ എന്തിന്നു നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു?

16. Be not very just, neither be very wise, lest you be confounded.

17. അതിദുഷ്ടനായിരിക്കരുതു; മൂഢനായിരിക്കയുമരുതു; കാലത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ നീ എന്തിന്നു മരിക്കുന്നു?

17. Be not very wicked, and be not stubborn, lest you should die before your time.

18. നീ ഇതു പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് കൊള്ളാം; അതിങ്കല്നിന്നു നിന്റെ കൈ വലിച്ചുകളയരുതു; ദൈവഭക്തന് ഇവ എല്ലാറ്റില്നിന്നും ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോരും.

18. It is well for you to hold fast by this; also by this defile not your hand; for to them that fear God all things shall come forth [well].

19. ഒരു പട്ടണത്തില് പത്തു ബലശാലികള് ഉള്ളതിനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനം ജ്ഞാനിക്കു അധികം ബലം.

19. Wisdom will help the wise man more than ten mighty men which are in the city.

20. പാപം ചെയ്യാതെ നന്മ മാത്രം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു നീതിമാനും ഭൂമിയില് ഇല്ല.
റോമർ 3:10

20. For there is not a righteous man in the earth who will do good, and not sin.

21. പറഞ്ഞുകേള്ക്കുന്ന സകലവാക്കിന്നും നീ ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ ദാസന് നിന്നെ ശപിക്കുന്നതു നീ കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്നേ.

21. Also take no heed to all the words which ungodly men shall speak, lest you hear your servant cursing you.

22. നീയും പല പ്രാവശ്യ്വം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ശപിച്ചപ്രകാരം നിനക്കു മനോബോധമുണ്ടല്ലോ.

22. For many times he shall trespass against you, and repeatedly shall he afflict your heart; for thus also have you cursed others.

23. ഇതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കി; ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിക്കുമെന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാല് അതു എനിക്കു ദൂരമായിരുന്നു.

23. All these things have I proved in wisdom. I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.

24. ഉള്ളതു ദൂരവും അത്യഗാധവും ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു കണ്ടെത്തുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

24. [That which is] far beyond what was, and a great depth, who shall find it out?

25. ഞാന് തിരിഞ്ഞു, അറിവാനും പരിശോധിപ്പാനും ജ്ഞാനവും യുക്തിയും അന്വേഷിപ്പാനും ദുഷ്ടത ഭോഷത്വമെന്നും മൂഢത ഭ്രാന്തു എന്നും ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.

25. I and my heart went round about to know, and to examine, and to seek wisdom, and the account [of things], and to know the folly and trouble and madness of the ungodly man.

26. മരണത്തെക്കാള് കൈപ്പായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കാര്യം ഞാന് കണ്ടുഹൃദയത്തില് കണികളും വലകളും കയ്യില് പാശങ്ങളും ഉള്ള സ്ത്രീയെ തന്നേ; ദൈവത്തിന്നു പ്രസാദമുള്ളവന് അവളെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു രക്ഷപ്പെടും; പാപിയോ അവളാല് പിടിപെടും.

26. And I find her [to be], and I will pronounce [to be] more bitter than death, the woman which is a snare, and her heart nets, [who has] a band in her hands. [He that is] good in the sight of God shall be delivered from her; but the sinner shall be caught by her.

27. കാര്യം അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒന്നോടൊന്നു ചേര്ത്തു പരിശോധിച്ചുനോക്കീട്ടു ഞാന് ഇതാകുന്നു കണ്ടതു എന്നു സഭാ പ്രസംഗി പറയുന്നു

27. Behold, this have I found, said the Preacher, [seeking] by one at a time to find out the account,

29. ഒരു കാര്യം മാത്രം ഞാന് കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നുദൈവം മനുഷ്യനെ നേരുള്ളവനായി സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു; അവരോ അനേകം സൂത്രങ്ങളെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുവരുന്നു.

29. But behold, this have I found, that God made man upright; but they have sought out many devices.
