1. യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ മൂന്നാം ആണ്ടില് ബാബേല് രാജാവായ നെബൂഖദ്നേസര് യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു വന്നു അതിനെ നിരോധിച്ചു.

1. In the third year of the reign of Y'hoyakim king of Y'hudah, N'vukhadnetzar king of Bavel came to Yerushalayim and laid siege to it;

2. കര്ത്താവു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനെയും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തിലെ പാത്രങ്ങളില് ചിലതിനെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവന് അവയെ ശിനാര്ദേശത്തു തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടു പോയി; ആ പാത്രങ്ങളെ അവന് തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ഭണ്ഡാരഗൃഹത്തില് വെച്ചു.

2. and [Adonai] handed Y'hoyakim king of Y'hudah over to him, along with some of the articles from the house of God. He took them to the land of Shin'ar, to the house of his god and placed the articles in the storehouse of his god.

3. അനന്തരം രാജാവു തന്റെ ഷണ്ഡന്മാരില് പ്രധാനിയായ അശ്പെനാസിനോടുയിസ്രായേല്മക്കളില് രാജസന്തതിയിലും കുലീനന്മാരിലും വെച്ചു

3. The king ordered Ashp'naz, the eunuch serving as his chief officer, to bring into the palace from the people of Isra'el some of royal or noble descent.

4. അംഗഭംഗമില്ലാത്തവരും സുന്തരന്മാരും സകലജ്ഞാനത്തിലും നിപുണന്മാരും അറിവില് സമര്ത്ഥന്മാരും വിദ്യാപരിജ്ഞാനികളും രാജധാനിയില് പരിചരിപ്പാന് യോഗ്യന്മാരും ആയ ചില ബാലന്മാരെ വരുത്തുവാനും അവരെ കല്ദയരുടെ വിദ്യയും ഭാഷയും അഭ്യസിപ്പിപ്പാനും കല്പിച്ചു.

4. They were to be boys without physical defect, handsome in appearance, versed in all kinds of wisdom, quick to learn, discerning, and having the capacity to serve in the king's palace; and he was to teach them the language and literature of the Kasdim.

5. രാജാവു അവര്ക്കും രാജഭോജനത്തില്നിന്നും താന് കുടിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞില്നിന്നും നിത്യവൃത്തി നിയമിച്ചു; ഇങ്ങനെ അവരെ മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം വളര്ത്തീട്ടു അവര് രാജസന്നിധിയില് നില്ക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

5. The king assigned them a daily portion of his own food and the wine he drank, and they were to be cared for in this way for three years. At the end of this time they were to become the king's attendants.

6. അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ദാനീയേല്, ഹനന്യാവു, മീശായേല്, അസര്യ്യാവു എന്നീ യെഹൂദാപുത്രന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

6. Among these, from the people of Y'hudah, were Dani'el, Hananyah, Misha'el and 'Azaryah.

7. ഷണ്ഡാധിപന് അവര്ക്കും പേരിട്ടു; ദാനീയേലിന്നു അവര് ബേല്ത്ത് ശസ്സര് എന്നും ഹനന്യവിന്നു ശദ്രക് എന്നും മീശായേലിന്നു മേശക് എന്നും അസര്യ്യാവിന്നു അബേദ്-നെഗോ എന്നും പേരുവിളിച്ചു.

7. The chief officer gave them other names- to Dani'el he gave the name Belt'shatzar; to Hananyah, Shadrakh; to Misha'el, Meishakh; and to 'Azaryah, 'Aved-N'go.

8. എന്നാല് രാജാവിന്റെ ഭോജനംകൊണ്ടും അവന് കുടിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടും തന്നെത്താന് അശുദ്ധമാക്കുകയില്ല എന്നു ദാനീയേല് ഹൃദയത്തില് നിശ്ചയിച്ചു, തനിക്കു അശുദ്ധി ഭവിപ്പാന് ഇടവരുത്തരുതെന്നു ഷണ്ഡാധിപനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

8. But Dani'el resolved that he would not defile himself with the king's food or the wine he drank, so he asked the chief officer to be excused from defiling himself.

9. ദൈവം ദാനീയേലിന്നു ഷണ്ഡാധിപന്റെ മുമ്പില് ദയയും കരുണയും ലഭിപ്പാന് ഇടവരുത്തി.

9. God caused the chief officer to be kind and sympathetic toward Dani'el;

10. ഷണ്ഡാധിപന് ദാനീയേലിനോടുനിങ്ങളുടെ ഭക്ഷണവും പാനീയവും നിയമിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു; അവന് നിങ്ങളുടെ മുഖം നിങ്ങളുടെ സമപ്രായക്കാരായ ബാലന്മാരുടേതിനോടു ഒത്തുനോക്കിയാല് മെലിഞ്ഞുകാണുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അങ്ങനെയായാല് നിങ്ങള് രാജസന്നിധിയില് എന്റെ തലെക്കു അപകടം വരുത്തും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. however, the chief officer said to Dani'el, 'I'm afraid of my lord the king. After all, he has given you an allowance of food and drink; so if he were to see you boys looking worse than the others your age, you would be putting my own head in danger from the king.'

11. ദാനീയേലോ ഷണ്ഡാധിപന് ദാനീയേലിന്നും ഹനന്യാവിന്നും മീശായേലിന്നും അസര്യ്യാവിന്നും വിചാരകനായി നിയമിച്ചിരുന്ന മെല്സറിനോടു

11. Then Dani'el said to the guard whom the chief officer had put in charge of Dani'el, Hananyah, Misha'el and 'Azaryah,

12. അടിയങ്ങളെ പത്തു ദിവസം പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കിയാലും; അവര് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തിന്മാന് ശാകപദാര്ത്ഥവും കുടിപ്പാന് പച്ചവെള്ളവും തന്നു നോക്കട്ടെ.

12. 'Please! Try an experiment on your servants- for ten days have them give us only vegetables to eat and water to drink.

13. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം ഞങ്ങളുടെ മുഖവും രാജഭോജനം കഴിക്കുന്ന ബാലന്മാരുടെ മുഖവും തമ്മില് നീ ഒത്തു നോക്കുക; പിന്നെ കാണുന്നതുപോലെ അടിയങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Then see how we look, and compare us with how the boys who eat the king's food look; and deal with your servants according to what you see.'

14. അവന് ഈ കാര്യത്തില് അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു പത്തു ദിവസം അവരെ പരീക്ഷിച്ചു.

14. He agreed to do what they had asked and gave them a ten-day test.

15. പത്തു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അവരുടെ മുഖം രാജഭോജനം കഴിച്ചുവന്ന സകലബാലന്മാരുടേതിലും അഴകുള്ളതും അവര് മാംസപുഷ്ടിയുള്ളവരും എന്നു കണ്ടു.

15. At the end of ten days they looked better and more robust than all the boys who were eating the king's food.

16. അങ്ങനെ മെല്സര് അവരുടെ ഭോജനവും അവര് കുടിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വീഞ്ഞും നീക്കി അവര്ക്കും ശാകപദാര്ത്ഥം കൊടുത്തു.

16. So the guard took away their food and the wine they were supposed to drink, and gave them vegetables.

17. ഈ നാലു ബാലന്മാര്ക്കോ ദൈവം സകലവിദ്യയിലും ജ്ഞാനത്തിലും നീപുണതയും സമാര്ത്ഥ്യവും കൊടുത്തു; ദാനീയേല് സകലദര്ശനങ്ങളെയും സ്യ്വപ്നങ്ങളെയും സംബന്ധിച്ചു വിവേകിയായിരുന്നു.

2. കര്ത്താവു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനെയും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തിലെ പാത്രങ്ങളില് ചിലതിനെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവന് അവയെ ശിനാര്ദേശത്തു തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടു പോയി; ആ പാത്രങ്ങളെ അവന് തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ഭണ്ഡാരഗൃഹത്തില് വെച്ചു.

2. ge and skill in every aspect of learning and wisdom; moreover, Dani'el could understand all kinds of visions and dreams.

18. അവരെ സന്നിധിയില് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചിരുന്ന കാലം തികഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ഷണ്ഡാധിപന് അവരെ നെബൂഖദ് നേസരിന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.

18. When the time the king had set for them to be presented came, the chief officer presented them to N'vukhadnetzar;

19. രാജാവു അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചാറെ അവരില് എല്ലാവരിലും വെച്ചു ദാനീയേല്, ഹനന്യാവു, മീശായേല്, അസര്യ്യാവു എന്നിവര്ക്കും തുല്യമായി ഒരുത്തനെയും കണ്ടില്ല; അവര് രാജസന്നിധിയില് ശുശ്രൂഷെക്കു നിന്നു.

19. and when the king spoke with them, none was found among all of them to compare with Dani'el, Hananyah, Misha'el and 'Azaryah. So they entered the king's service;

20. രാജാവു അവരോടു ജ്ഞാനവിവേകസംബന്ധമായി ചോദിച്ചതില് ഒക്കെയും അവരെ തന്റെ രാജ്യത്തെല്ലാടവുമുള്ള സകല മന്ത്രവാദികളിലും ആഭിചാരകന്മാരിലും പത്തിരട്ടി വിശിഷ്ടന്മാരെന്നു കണ്ടു.

20. and in all matters requiring wisdom and understanding, whenever the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and exorcists in his entire kingdom.

21. ദാനീയേലോ കോരെശ്രാജാവിന്റെ ഒന്നാം ആണ്ടുവരെ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു.

21. So Dani'el remained there until the first year of King Koresh.
