1. യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ മൂന്നാം ആണ്ടില് ബാബേല് രാജാവായ നെബൂഖദ്നേസര് യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു വന്നു അതിനെ നിരോധിച്ചു.

1. In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Jerusalem, and besieged it.

2. കര്ത്താവു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനെയും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തിലെ പാത്രങ്ങളില് ചിലതിനെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവന് അവയെ ശിനാര്ദേശത്തു തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടു പോയി; ആ പാത്രങ്ങളെ അവന് തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ഭണ്ഡാരഗൃഹത്തില് വെച്ചു.

2. The Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god: and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.

3. അനന്തരം രാജാവു തന്റെ ഷണ്ഡന്മാരില് പ്രധാനിയായ അശ്പെനാസിനോടുയിസ്രായേല്മക്കളില് രാജസന്തതിയിലും കുലീനന്മാരിലും വെച്ചു

3. The king spoke to Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in certain of the children of Israel, even of the seed royal and of the nobles;

4. അംഗഭംഗമില്ലാത്തവരും സുന്തരന്മാരും സകലജ്ഞാനത്തിലും നിപുണന്മാരും അറിവില് സമര്ത്ഥന്മാരും വിദ്യാപരിജ്ഞാനികളും രാജധാനിയില് പരിചരിപ്പാന് യോഗ്യന്മാരും ആയ ചില ബാലന്മാരെ വരുത്തുവാനും അവരെ കല്ദയരുടെ വിദ്യയും ഭാഷയും അഭ്യസിപ്പിപ്പാനും കല്പിച്ചു.

4. youths in whom was no blemish, but well-favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and endowed with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability to stand in the king's palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.

5. രാജാവു അവര്ക്കും രാജഭോജനത്തില്നിന്നും താന് കുടിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞില്നിന്നും നിത്യവൃത്തി നിയമിച്ചു; ഇങ്ങനെ അവരെ മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം വളര്ത്തീട്ടു അവര് രാജസന്നിധിയില് നില്ക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

5. The king appointed for them a daily portion of the king's dainties, and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years; that at the end of it they should stand before the king.

6. അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ദാനീയേല്, ഹനന്യാവു, മീശായേല്, അസര്യ്യാവു എന്നീ യെഹൂദാപുത്രന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

6. Now among these were, of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

7. ഷണ്ഡാധിപന് അവര്ക്കും പേരിട്ടു; ദാനീയേലിന്നു അവര് ബേല്ത്ത് ശസ്സര് എന്നും ഹനന്യവിന്നു ശദ്രക് എന്നും മീശായേലിന്നു മേശക് എന്നും അസര്യ്യാവിന്നു അബേദ്-നെഗോ എന്നും പേരുവിളിച്ചു.

7. The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

8. എന്നാല് രാജാവിന്റെ ഭോജനംകൊണ്ടും അവന് കുടിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടും തന്നെത്താന് അശുദ്ധമാക്കുകയില്ല എന്നു ദാനീയേല് ഹൃദയത്തില് നിശ്ചയിച്ചു, തനിക്കു അശുദ്ധി ഭവിപ്പാന് ഇടവരുത്തരുതെന്നു ഷണ്ഡാധിപനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

8. But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king's dainties, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

9. ദൈവം ദാനീയേലിന്നു ഷണ്ഡാധിപന്റെ മുമ്പില് ദയയും കരുണയും ലഭിപ്പാന് ഇടവരുത്തി.

9. Now God made Daniel to find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.

10. ഷണ്ഡാധിപന് ദാനീയേലിനോടുനിങ്ങളുടെ ഭക്ഷണവും പാനീയവും നിയമിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു; അവന് നിങ്ങളുടെ മുഖം നിങ്ങളുടെ സമപ്രായക്കാരായ ബാലന്മാരുടേതിനോടു ഒത്തുനോക്കിയാല് മെലിഞ്ഞുകാണുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അങ്ങനെയായാല് നിങ്ങള് രാജസന്നിധിയില് എന്റെ തലെക്കു അപകടം വരുത്തും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? so would you endanger my head with the king.

11. ദാനീയേലോ ഷണ്ഡാധിപന് ദാനീയേലിന്നും ഹനന്യാവിന്നും മീശായേലിന്നും അസര്യ്യാവിന്നും വിചാരകനായി നിയമിച്ചിരുന്ന മെല്സറിനോടു

11. Then said Daniel to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

12. അടിയങ്ങളെ പത്തു ദിവസം പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കിയാലും; അവര് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തിന്മാന് ശാകപദാര്ത്ഥവും കുടിപ്പാന് പച്ചവെള്ളവും തന്നു നോക്കട്ടെ.

12. Prove your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

13. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം ഞങ്ങളുടെ മുഖവും രാജഭോജനം കഴിക്കുന്ന ബാലന്മാരുടെ മുഖവും തമ്മില് നീ ഒത്തു നോക്കുക; പിന്നെ കാണുന്നതുപോലെ അടിയങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Then let our faces be looked on before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king's dainties; and as you see, deal with your servants.

14. അവന് ഈ കാര്യത്തില് അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു പത്തു ദിവസം അവരെ പരീക്ഷിച്ചു.

14. So he listened to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

15. പത്തു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അവരുടെ മുഖം രാജഭോജനം കഴിച്ചുവന്ന സകലബാലന്മാരുടേതിലും അഴകുള്ളതും അവര് മാംസപുഷ്ടിയുള്ളവരും എന്നു കണ്ടു.

15. At the end of ten days their faces appeared fairer, and they were fatter in flesh, than all the youths who ate of the king's dainties.

16. അങ്ങനെ മെല്സര് അവരുടെ ഭോജനവും അവര് കുടിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വീഞ്ഞും നീക്കി അവര്ക്കും ശാകപദാര്ത്ഥം കൊടുത്തു.

16. So the steward took away their dainties, and the wine that they should drink, and gave them pulse.

17. ഈ നാലു ബാലന്മാര്ക്കോ ദൈവം സകലവിദ്യയിലും ജ്ഞാനത്തിലും നീപുണതയും സമാര്ത്ഥ്യവും കൊടുത്തു; ദാനീയേല് സകലദര്ശനങ്ങളെയും സ്യ്വപ്നങ്ങളെയും സംബന്ധിച്ചു വിവേകിയായിരുന്നു.

17. Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

18. അവരെ സന്നിധിയില് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചിരുന്ന കാലം തികഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ഷണ്ഡാധിപന് അവരെ നെബൂഖദ് നേസരിന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.

18. At the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

19. രാജാവു അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചാറെ അവരില് എല്ലാവരിലും വെച്ചു ദാനീയേല്, ഹനന്യാവു, മീശായേല്, അസര്യ്യാവു എന്നിവര്ക്കും തുല്യമായി ഒരുത്തനെയും കണ്ടില്ല; അവര് രാജസന്നിധിയില് ശുശ്രൂഷെക്കു നിന്നു.

19. The king talked with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

20. രാജാവു അവരോടു ജ്ഞാനവിവേകസംബന്ധമായി ചോദിച്ചതില് ഒക്കെയും അവരെ തന്റെ രാജ്യത്തെല്ലാടവുമുള്ള സകല മന്ത്രവാദികളിലും ആഭിചാരകന്മാരിലും പത്തിരട്ടി വിശിഷ്ടന്മാരെന്നു കണ്ടു.

20. In every matter of wisdom and understanding, concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.

21. ദാനീയേലോ കോരെശ്രാജാവിന്റെ ഒന്നാം ആണ്ടുവരെ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു.

21. Daniel continued even to the first year of king Cyrus.
