1. സ്നേഹം ആചരിപ്പാന് ഉത്സാഹിപ്പിന് ! ആത്മികവരങ്ങളും വിശേഷാല് പ്രവചനവരവും വാഞ്ഛിപ്പിന് .

1. Folowe after loue, and couet spirituall [giftes] but most chiefelie that ye may prophesie.

2. അന്യഭാഷയില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന് മനുഷ്യരോടല്ല ദൈവത്തോടത്രേ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു; ആരും തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ; എങ്കിലും അവന് ആത്മാവില് മര്മ്മങ്ങളെ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു.

2. For he that speaketh with the tongue, speaketh not vnto men, but vnto God: For no man heareth [hym]. Howbeit, in the spirite he speaketh misteries.

3. പ്രവചിക്കുന്നവനോ ആത്മികവര്ദ്ധനെക്കും പ്രബോധനത്തിന്നും ആശ്വാസത്തിന്നുമായി മനുഷ്യരോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്നു.

3. But he that prophesieth, speaketh vnto men to their edifiyng, to their exhortation, and to their comfort.

4. അന്യഭാഷയില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന് തനിക്കുതാന് ആത്മികവര്ദ്ധന വരുത്തുന്നു; പ്രവചിക്കുന്നവന് സഭെക്കു ആത്മികവര്ദ്ധന വരുത്തുന്നു.

4. He that speaketh with the tongue, edifieth hym selfe: he that prophesieth, edifieth the Churche.

5. നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും അന്യഭാഷകളില് സംസാരിക്കേണം എന്നും വിശേഷാല് പ്രവചിക്കേണം എന്നും ഞാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു. അന്യഭാഷകളില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന് സഭെക്കു ആത്മികവര്ദ്ധന ലഭിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു വ്യാഖ്യാനിക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കില് പ്രവചിക്കുന്നവന് അവനെക്കാള് വലിയവന് .

5. I woulde yt ye al spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: For greater is he that prophesieth, then he that speaketh with tongues, except he expounde it, that the Churche may haue edifiyng.

6. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ഞാന് വെളിപ്പാടായിട്ടോ ജ്ഞാനമായിട്ടോ പ്രവചനമായിട്ടോ ഉപദേശമായിട്ടോ നിങ്ങളോടു സംസാരിക്കാതെ അന്യഭാഷകളില് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നാല് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എന്തു പ്രയോജനം വരും?

6. Nowe brethren, yf I come vnto you speakyng with tongues, what shall I profite you, except I speake to you eyther by reuelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesiyng, or by doctrine?

7. കുഴല്, വീണ എന്നിങ്ങനെ നാദം കൊടുക്കുന്ന നിര്ജ്ജീവസാധനങ്ങള് തന്നേയും നാദഭേദം കാണിക്കാഞ്ഞാല് ഊതിയതോ മീട്ടിയതോ എന്തെന്നു എങ്ങനെ അറിയും?

7. Moreouer, thynges without lyfe geuing sound, whether [it be] a pipe or an harpe, except they make a distinction in the soundes, howe shall it be knowen what is piped or harped?

8. കാഹളം തെളിവില്ലാത്ത നാദം കൊടുത്താല് പടെക്കു ആര് ഒരുങ്ങും?

8. And also yf the trumpe geue an vncertayne sounde, who shall prepare him selfe to the warre?

9. അതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളും നാവുകൊണ്ടു തെളിവായ വാക്കു ഉച്ചരിക്കാഞ്ഞാല് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തെന്നു എങ്ങനെ അറിയും? നിങ്ങള് കാറ്റിനോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്നവര് ആകുമല്ലോ.

9. Euen so lykewyse, when ye speake with tongues, except ye speake wordes that haue signification, howe shall it be vnderstande what is spoken? For ye shall speake into the ayer.

10. ലോകത്തില് വിവിധ ഭാഷകള് അനവധി ഉണ്ടു; അവയില് ഒന്നും തെളിവില്ലാത്തതല്ല.

10. There are so many kyndes of voyces, [as it commeth to passe] in the worlde, and none of them are without signification.

11. ഞാന് ഭാഷ അറിയാഞ്ഞാല് സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന്നു ഞാന് ബര്ബ്ബരന് ആയിരിക്കും; സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന് എനിക്കും ബര്ബ്ബരന് ആയിരിക്കും.

11. If I knowe not what the voyce meaneth, I shalbe lyke vnto hym that speaketh, an aliaunt: and he that speaketh, shalbe an aliaunt vnto me.

12. അവ്വണ്ണം നിങ്ങളും ആത്മവരങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചു വാഞ്ഛയുള്ളവരാകയാല് സഭയുടെ ആത്മിക വര്ദ്ധനെക്കായി സഫലന്മാര് ആകുവാന് ശ്രമിപ്പിന് .

12. Euen so, forasmuch as ye couet spirituall [giftes] seke that ye may excell, vnto the edifiyng of the Churche.

13. അതുകൊണ്ടു അന്യഭാഷയില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന് വ്യാഖ്യാനവരത്തിന്നായി പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കട്ടെ.

13. Wherfore, let him that speaketh with tongue, pray that he may interprete.

14. ഞാന് അന്യഭാഷയില് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് എന്റെ ആത്മാവു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ ബുദ്ധിയോ അഫലമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. For yf I pray with tongue, my spirite prayeth, but my vnderstanding is without fruite.

15. ആകയാല് എന്തു? ഞാന് ആത്മാവുകൊണ്ടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കും; ബുദ്ധികൊണ്ടും പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കും; ആത്മാവുകൊണ്ടു പാടും; ബുദ്ധികൊണ്ടും പാടും.

15. What is it then? I wyll pray with the spirite, and wyll pray with the vnderstandyng also. I wyll syng with the spirite, and wyll syng with the vnderstandyng also.

16. അല്ല, നീ ആത്മാവുകൊണ്ടു സ്തോത്രം ചൊല്ലിയാല് ആത്മവരമില്ലാത്തവന് നീ പറയുന്നതു തിരിയാതിരിക്കെ നിന്റെ സ്തോത്രത്തിന്നു എങ്ങനെ ആമേന് പറയും?

16. Els, when thou blessest with the spirite, howe shall he that occupieth the rowme of the vnlearned, say Amen at thy geuyng of thankes, seyng he vnderstandeth not what thou sayest?

17. നീ നന്നായി സ്തോത്രം ചൊല്ലുന്നു സത്യം; മറ്റവന്നു ആത്മികവര്ദ്ധന വരുന്നില്ലതാനും.

17. Thou veryly geuest thankes well: but the other is not edified.

18. നിങ്ങളെല്ലാവരിലും അധികം ഞാന് അന്യഭാഷകളില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് ദൈവത്തെ സ്തുതിക്കുന്നു.

18. I thanke my God, I speake with tongues more the ye all.

19. എങ്കിലും സഭയില് പതിനായിരം വാക്കു അന്യഭാഷയില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് അധികം മറ്റുള്ളവരെയും പഠിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബുദ്ധികൊണ്ടു അഞ്ചുവാക്കു പറവാന് ഞാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

19. Yet had I rather, in the Churche to speake fiue wordes with my vnderstandyng, to the information of other, then ten thousande wordes with the tongue.

20. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ബുദ്ധിയില് കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള് ആകരുതു; തിന്മെക്കു ശിശുക്കള് ആയിരിപ്പിന് ; ബുദ്ധിയിലോ മുതിര്ന്നവരാകുവിന് .

20. Brethren, be not chyldren in wytte: Howbeit, as concerning maliciousnesse, be chyldren: but in wytte, be perfect.

21. “അന്യഭാഷകളാലും അന്യന്മാരുടെ അധരങ്ങളാലും ഞാന് ഈ ജനത്തോടു സംസാരിക്കും എങ്കിലും അവര് എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കയില്ല എന്നു കര്ത്താവു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു” എന്നു ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
യെശയ്യാ 28:11-12

21. In the lawe it is written: With sundry tongues, and with sundry lyppes, wyll I speake vnto this people, and yet for all that will they not heare me, sayth the Lorde.

22. അതുകൊണ്ടു അന്യഭാഷകള് അടയാളമായിരിക്കുന്നതു വിശ്വാസികള്ക്കല്ല, അവിശ്വാസികള്ക്കത്രേ; പ്രവചനമോ അവിശ്വാസികള്ക്കല്ല, വിശ്വാസികള്ക്കു തന്നേ.

22. Wherfore, tongues are for a signe, not to them that beleue, but to them that beleue not: But prophesiyng [serueth] not for them that beleue not, but for them which beleue.

23. സഭ ഒക്കെയും ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി എല്ലാവരും അന്യഭാഷകളില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് ആത്മവരമില്ലാത്തവരോ അവിശ്വാസികളോ അകത്തു വന്നാല് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഭ്രാന്തുണ്ടു എന്നു പറകയില്ലയോ?

23. If therfore, when all the Churche is come together in one, & all speake with tongues, there come in they that are vnlearned, or they which beleue not: wyll they not say yt ye are out of your wittes?

24. എല്ലാവരും പ്രവചിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിലോ അവിശ്വാസിയോ ആത്മവരമില്ലാത്തവനോ അകത്തു വന്നാല് എല്ലാവരുടെ വാക്കിനാലും അവന്നു പാപബോധം വരും; അവന് എല്ലാവരാലും വിവേചിക്കപ്പെടും.

24. But yf all prophesie, and there come in one ye beleueth not, or one vnlearned: he is rebuked of all men, and is iudged of euery man:

25. അവന്റെ ഹൃദയരഹസ്യങ്ങളും വെളിപ്പെട്ടുവരും; അങ്ങനെ അവന് കവിണ്ണുവീണു, ദൈവം വാസ്തവമായി നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞു ദൈവത്തെ നമസ്കരിക്കും.

25. And so are the secretes of his heart made manifest, and so falleth he downe on his face, and worshippeth God, and sayth that God is in you of a trueth.

26. ആകയാല് എന്തു? സഹോദരന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങള് കൂടിവരുമ്പോള് ഔരോരുത്തന്നു സങ്കീര്ത്തനം ഉണ്ടു, ഉപദേശം ഉണ്ടു, വെളിപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടു, അന്യഭാഷ ഉണ്ടു, വ്യഖ്യാനം ഉണ്ടു, സകലവും ആത്മികവര്ദ്ധനെക്കായി ഉതകട്ടെ.

26. Howe is it then brethren? When ye come together, euery one of you hath a psalme, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a reuelation, hath interpretation. Let all thynges be done vnto edifiyng.

27. അന്യഭാഷയില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് രണ്ടു പേരോ ഏറിയാല് മൂന്നുപേരോ ആകട്ടെ; അവര് ഔരോരുത്തനായി സംസാരിക്കയും ഒരുവന് വ്യാഖ്യാനിക്കയും ചെയ്യട്ടെ.

27. Yf any man speake with tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course, and let one interprete.

28. വ്യാഖ്യാനി ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞാല് അന്യഭാഷക്കാരന് സഭയില് മിണ്ടാതെ തന്നോടും ദൈവത്തോടും സംസാരിക്കട്ടെ.

28. But yf there be no interpreter, let him kepe scilence in the Churche, and let him speake to hym selfe, and to God.

29. പ്രവാചകന്മാര് രണ്ടു മൂന്നു പേര് സംസാരിക്കയും മറ്റുള്ളവര് വിവേചിക്കയും ചെയ്യട്ടെ.

29. Let the prophetes speake two or three, and let the other iudge.

30. ഇരിക്കുന്നവനായ മറ്റൊരുവന്നു വെളിപ്പാടുണ്ടായാലോ ഒന്നാമത്തവന് മിണ്ടാതിരിക്കട്ടെ.

30. If any reuelation be made to another that sitteth by, let ye first holde his peace.

31. എല്ലാവരും പഠിപ്പാനും എല്ലാവര്ക്കും പ്രബോധനം ലഭിപ്പാനുമായി നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എല്ലാവര്ക്കും ഔരോരുത്തനായി പ്രവചിക്കാമല്ലോ.

31. For ye may all prophesie one by one, that all may learne, and all may haue comfort.

32. പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ ആത്മാക്കള് പ്രവാചകന്മാര്ക്കും കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

32. And the spirites of the prophetes, are subiect to the prophetes.

33. ദൈവം കലക്കത്തിന്റെ ദൈവമല്ല സമാധാനത്തിന്റെ ദൈവമത്രേ.

33. For God is not [the aucthour] of confusion, but of peace, as in all Churches of the saintes.

34. വിശുദ്ധന്മാരുടെ സര്വ്വസഭകളിലും എന്നപോലെ സ്ത്രീകള് സഭായോഗങ്ങളില് മിണ്ടാതിരിക്കട്ടെ; ന്യായപ്രമാണവും പറയുന്നതുപോലെ കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിപ്പാനല്ലാതെ സംസാരിപ്പാന് അവര്ക്കും അനുവാദമില്ല.

34. Let your women kepe scilence in the Churches: For it is not permitted vnto them to speake, but to be vnder obedience, as sayth the lawe.

35. അവര് വല്ലതും പഠിപ്പാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് വീട്ടില്വെച്ചു ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാരോടു ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടേ; സ്ത്രീ സഭയില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു അനുചിതമല്ലോ.

35. If they wyll learne any thyng, let the aske their husbandes at home: For it is a shame for women to speake in the Churche.

36. ദൈവവചനം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നോ പുറപ്പെട്ടതു? അല്ല, നിങ്ങള്ക്കു മാത്രമോ വന്നതു?

36. Sproung the worde of God from you? Either came it vnto you only?

37. താന് പ്രവാചകന് എന്നോ ആത്മികന് എന്നോ ഒരുത്തന്നു തോന്നുന്നു എങ്കില്, ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എഴുതുന്നതു കര്ത്താവിന്റെ കല്പന ആകുന്നു എന്നു അവന് അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ളട്ടെ.

37. If any man thynke hym selfe to be a prophete, either spiritual, let him knowe that the thinges that I write vnto you, are ye commaundementes of the Lorde.

38. ഒരുവന് അറിയുന്നില്ലെങ്കില് അവന് അറിയാതിരിക്കട്ടെ.

38. But yf any man be ignoraunt, let hym be ignoraunt.

39. അതുകൊണ്ടു സഹോദരന്മാരേ, പ്രവചനവരം വാഞ്ഛിപ്പിന് ; അന്യഭാഷകളില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു വിലക്കുകയുമരുതു. സകലവും ഉചിതമായും ക്രമമായും നടക്കട്ടെ.

39. Wherfore brethren, couet to prophesie, and forbyd not to speake with tongues.
