1. എന്നാല് ഞാന് വീണ്ടും നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നതു ദുഃഖത്തോടെ ആകരുതു എന്നു ഞാന് നിര്ണ്ണയിച്ചു.

1. BUT I definitely made up my mind not to grieve you with another painful and distressing visit.

2. ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ ദുഃഖിപ്പിച്ചാല് എന്നാല് ദുഃഖിതനായവന് അല്ലാതെ എന്നെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നതു ആര്?

2. For if I cause you pain [with merited rebuke], who is there to provide me enjoyment but the [very] one whom I have grieved and made sad?

3. ഞാന് ഇതു തന്നേ എഴുതിയതു ഞാന് വന്നാല് എന്നെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടിയവരാല് ദുഃഖം ഉണ്ടാകരുതു എന്നുവെച്ചും എന്റെ സന്തോഷം നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എല്ലാവര്ക്കും സന്തോഷം ആയിരിക്കും എന്നു നിങ്ങളെ എല്ലാവരെയും കുറിച്ചു വിശ്വസിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും ആകുന്നു.

3. And I wrote the same to you so that when I came, I might not be myself pained by those who are the [very] ones who ought to make me glad, for I trusted in you all and felt confident that my joy would be shared by all of you.

4. വളരെ കഷ്ടവും മനോവ്യസനവും ഉണ്ടായിട്ടു വളരെ കണ്ണുനീരോടുകൂടെ ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എഴുതിയതു നിങ്ങള് ദുഃഖിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നല്ല; എനിക്കു നിങ്ങളോടുള്ള വലിയ സ്നേഹം നിങ്ങള് അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നത്രേ.

4. For I wrote you out of great sorrow and deep distress [with mental torture and anxiety] of heart, [yes, and] with many tears, not to cause you pain but in order to make you realize the overflowing love that I continue increasingly to have for you.

5. ഒരുവന് എന്നെ ദുഃഖിപ്പിച്ചു എങ്കില് അവന് എന്നെയല്ല ഒരുവിധത്തില് — ഞാന് കണക്കില് ഏറെ പറയരുതല്ലോ — നിങ്ങളെ എല്ലാവരെയും ദുഃഖിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

5. But if someone [the one among you who committed incest] has caused [all this] grief and pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure, not to put it too severely, [he has distressed] all of you.

6. അവന്നു ഭൂരിപക്ഷത്താല് ഉണ്ടായ ഈ ശിക്ഷ മതി.

6. For such a one this censure by the majority [which he has received is] sufficient [punishment].

7. അവന് അതിദുഃഖത്തില് മുങ്ങിപ്പോകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങള് അവനോടു ക്ഷമിക്കയും അവനെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിക്കയും തന്നേ വേണ്ടതു.

7. So [instead of further rebuke, now] you should rather turn and [graciously] forgive and comfort and encourage [him], to keep him from being overwhelmed by excessive sorrow and despair.

8. അതുകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്നേഹം അവന്നു ഉറപ്പിച്ചുകൊടുപ്പാന് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

8. I therefore beg you to reinstate him in your affections and assure him of your love for him;

9. നിങ്ങള് സകലത്തിലും അനുസരണമുള്ളവരോ എന്നു പരീക്ഷിച്ചറിയേണ്ടതിനുമായിരുന്നു ഞാന് എഴുതിയതു.

9. For this was my purpose in writing you, to test your attitude and see if you would stand the test, whether you are obedient and altogether agreeable [to following my orders] in everything.

10. നിങ്ങള് വല്ലതും ക്ഷമിക്കുന്നവനോടു ഞാനും ക്ഷമിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് ഞാന് വല്ലതും ക്ഷമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് നിങ്ങള് നിമിത്തം ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സന്നിധാനത്തില് ക്ഷമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. If you forgive anyone anything, I too forgive that one; and what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sakes in the presence [and with the approval] of Christ (the Messiah),

11. സാത്താന് നമ്മെ തോല്പിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ തന്ത്രങ്ങളെ നാം അറിയാത്തവരല്ലല്ലോ.

11. To keep Satan from getting the advantage over us; for we are not ignorant of his wiles and intentions.

12. എന്നാല് ഞാന് ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സുവിശേഷം അറിയിപ്പാന് ത്രോവാസില് വന്നാറെ കര്ത്താവിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കായി എനിക്കു ഒരു വാതില് തുറന്നുകിട്ടിയപ്പോള്

12. Now when I arrived at Troas [to preach] the good news (the Gospel) of Christ, a door of opportunity was opened for me in the Lord,

13. എന്റെ സഹോദരനായ തീതൊസിനെ കാണാഞ്ഞിട്ടു മനസ്സില് സ്വസ്ഥതയില്ലായ്കയാല് ഞാന് അവരോടു യാത്രപറഞ്ഞു മക്കെദോന്യെക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

13. Yet my spirit could not rest (relax, get relief) because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I took leave from them and departed for Macedonia.

14. ക്രിസ്തുവില് ഞങ്ങളെ എപ്പോഴും ജയോത്സവമായി നടത്തുകയും എല്ലാടത്തും ഞങ്ങളെക്കൊണ്ടു തന്റെ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വാസന വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന ദൈവത്തിന്നു സ്തോത്രം .

14. But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ's victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere,

15. രക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നവരുടെ ഇടയിലും നശിക്കുന്നവരുടെ ഇടയിലും ഞങ്ങള് ദൈവത്തിന്നു ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സൌരഭ്യവാസന ആകുന്നു;

15. For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God, [discernible alike] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing:

16. ഇവര്ക്കും മരണത്തില്നിന്നു മരണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വാസന, അവര്ക്കോ ജീവനില്നിന്നു ജീവങ്കലേക്കുള്ള വാസന തന്നേ. എന്നാല് ഇതിന്നു ആര് പ്രാപ്തന് ?

16. To the latter it is an aroma [wafted] from death to death [a fatal odor, the smell of doom]; to the former it is an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is qualified (fit and sufficient) for these things? [Who is able for such a ministry? We?]

17. ഞങ്ങള് ദൈവവചനത്തില് കൂട്ടുചേര്ക്കുംന്ന അനേകരെപ്പോലെ അല്ല, നിര്മ്മലതയോടും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കല്പനയാലും ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് ക്രിസ്തുവില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നു.

17. For we are not, like so many, [like hucksters making a trade of] peddling God's Word [shortchanging and adulterating the divine message]; but like [men] of sincerity and the purest motive, as [commissioned and sent] by God, we speak [His message] in Christ (the Messiah), in the [very] sight and presence of God.
