1. അനന്തരം ഗിദെയോന് എന്ന യെരുബ്ബാലും അവനോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ജനം ഒക്കെയും അതികാലത്തു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഹരോദ് ഉറവിന്നരികെ പാളയമിറങ്ങി; മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ പാളയമോ അവര്ക്കും വടക്കു മോരേകുന്നിന്നരികെ താഴ്വരയില് ആയിരുന്നു.

1. Then Jerubbaal (who {is} Gideon) and all the people that {were} with him, rose early, and encamped beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

2. യഹോവ ഗിദെയോനോടുനിന്നോടു കൂടെയുള്ള ജനം അധികമാകുന്നു; എന്റെ കൈ എന്നെ രക്ഷിച്ചു എന്നു യിസ്രായേല് എന്റെ നേരെ വമ്പുപറയാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് മിദ്യാന്യരെ ഇവരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കയില്ല.

2. And the LORD said to Gideon, The people that {are} with thee {are} too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, My own hand hath saved me.

3. ആകയാല് നീ ചെന്നു ആര്ക്കെങ്കിലും ഭയവും ഭീരുതയുമുണ്ടെങ്കില് അവന് ഗിലെയാദ് പര്വ്വതത്തില്നിന്നു മടങ്ങിപ്പെയ്ക്കൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു ജനത്തില് പ്രസിദ്ധപ്പെടുത്തുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. എന്നാറെ ജനത്തില് ഇരുപത്തീരായിരം പേര് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി; പതിനായിരംപേര് ശേഷിച്ചു.

3. Now therefore, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whoever {is} fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

4. യഹോവ പിന്നെയും ഗിദെയോനോടുജനം ഇനിയും അധികം ആകുന്നു; അവരെ വെള്ളത്തിങ്കലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോക; അവിടെ വെച്ചു ഞാന് അവരെ പരിശോധിച്ചുതരാം; ഇവന് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരട്ടെ എന്നു ഞാന് കല്പിക്കുന്നവന് പോരട്ടെ; ഇവന് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരേണ്ടാ എന്നു ഞാന് കല്പിക്കുന്നവന് പോരേണ്ടാ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

4. And the LORD said to Gideon, The people {are} yet {too} many; bring them down to the water, and I will try them for thee there; and it shall be, {that} of whom I say to thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say to thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

5. അങ്ങനെ അവന് ജനത്തെ വെള്ളത്തിങ്കലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി; യഹോവ ഗിദെയോനോടുപട്ടി നക്കിക്കുടിക്കുംപോലെ നാവുകൊണ്ടു വെള്ളം നിക്കിക്കുടിക്കുന്നവരെയൊക്കെ വേറെയും കുടിപ്പാന് മുട്ടുകുത്തി കുനിയുന്നവരെയൊക്കെ വേറയും നിര്ത്തുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

5. So he brought down the people to the water: and the LORD said to Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.

6. കൈ വായക്കു വെച്ചു നക്കിക്കുടിച്ചവര് ആകെ മുന്നൂറുപേര് ആയിരുന്നു; ശേഷം ജനമൊക്കെയും വെള്ളം കുടിപ്പാന് മുട്ടുകുത്തി കുനിഞ്ഞു.

6. And the number of them that lapped, {putting} their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.

7. യഹോവ ഗിദെയോനോടുനക്കിക്കുടിച്ച മുന്നൂറു പേരെക്കൊണ്ടു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിച്ചു മിദ്യാന്യരെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും; ശേഷം ജനമൊക്കെയും താന്താങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോകട്ടെ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

7. And the LORD said to Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thy hand: and let all the {other} people go every man to his place.

8. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ജനത്തിന്റെ ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങളും കാഹളങ്ങളും വാങ്ങി; ശേഷം യിസ്രായേല്യരെയൊക്കെയും അവന് വീട്ടിലേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയക്കയും ആ മുന്നൂറുപേരെ നിര്ത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാല് മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ പാളയം താഴെ സമഭൂമിയില് ആയിരുന്നു.

8. So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all {the rest of} Israel every man to his tent, and retained those three hundred men. And the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

9. അന്നു രാത്രി യഹോവ അവനോടു കല്പിച്ചതുഎഴുന്നേറ്റു പാളയത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുക; ഞാന് അതു നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

9. And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said to him, Arise, go down to the host; for I have delivered it into thy hand.

10. ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുവാന് നിനക്കു പേടിയുണ്ടെങ്കില് നീയും നിന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരനായ പൂരയുംകൂടെ പാളയത്തിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുക.

10. But if thou fearest to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:

11. എന്നാല് അവര് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തെന്നു നീ കേള്ക്കും; അതിന്റെ ശേഷം പാളയത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുവാന് നിനക്കു ധൈര്യം വരും. അങ്ങനെ അവനും അവന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരനായ പൂരയും പാളയത്തില് ആയുധപാണികളുടെ സമീപത്തോളം ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു.

11. And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thy hands be strengthened to go down to the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant to the outside of the armed men that {were} in the host.

12. എന്നാല് മിദ്യാന്യരും അമാലേക്യരും കിഴക്കു ദേശക്കാരൊക്കെയും വെട്ടുക്കിളി എന്നപോലെ അസംഖ്യമായി താഴ്വരയില് കിടന്നിരുന്നു; അവരുടെ ഒട്ടകങ്ങളും കടല്ക്കരയിലെ മണല്പോലെ അസംഖ്യം ആയിരുന്നു.

12. And the Midianites, and the Amalekites, and all the children of the east, lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels {were} without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

13. ഗിദെയോന് ചെല്ലുമ്പോള് ഒരുത്തന് മറ്റൊരുത്തനോടു ഒരു സ്വപന്ം വിവരിക്കയായിരുന്നുഞാന് ഒരു സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു; ഒരു യവയപ്പം മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ പാളയത്തിലേക്കു ഉരുണ്ടു വന്നു കൂടാരംവരെ എത്തി അതിനെ തള്ളി മറിച്ചിട്ടു അങ്ങനെ കൂടാരം വീണുകിടന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു മറ്റവന്

13. And when Gideon had come, behold, {there was} a man that told a dream to his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and lo, a cake of barley-bread rolled into the host of Midian, and came to a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it that the tent lay along.

14. ഇതു യോവാശിന്റെ മകനായ ഗിദെയോന് എന്ന യിസ്രായേല്യന്റെ വാളല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നുമല്ല; ദൈവം മിദ്യാനെയും ഈ പാളയത്തെ ഒക്കെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

14. And his fellow answered, and said, This {is} nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: {for} into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

15. ഗിദെയോന് സ്വപ്നവും പൊരുളും കേട്ടപ്പോള് നമസ്കരിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ പാളയത്തില് മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നുഎഴുന്നേല്പിന് , യഹോവ മിദ്യാന്റെ പാളയത്തെ നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And it was {so}, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and its interpretation, that he worshiped, and returned to the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

16. അനന്തരം അവന് ആ മുന്നൂറുപേരെ മൂന്നുകൂട്ടമായി വിഭാഗിച്ചു ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ കയ്യില് ഔരോ കാഹളവും വെറുംകുടവും കുടത്തിന്നകത്തു ഔരോ പന്തവും കൊടുത്തു, അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതു.

16. And he divided the three hundred men {into} three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

17. ഞാന് ചെയ്യുന്നതു നോക്കി അതുപോലെ ചെയ്വിന് ; പാളയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റത്തു എത്തുമ്പോള് ഞാന് ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളും ചെയ്വിന് ,

17. And he said to them, Look on me, and do likewise: and behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be {that} as I do, so shall ye do.

18. ഞാനും എന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവരും കാഹളം ഊതുമ്പോള് നിങ്ങളും പാളയത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റും നിന്നു കാഹളം ഊതിയഹോവേക്കും ഗിദെയോന്നും വേണ്ടി എന്നു പറവിന് .

18. When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that {are} with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, {The sword} of the LORD, and of Gideon.

19. മദ്ധ്യയാമത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തില് അവര് കാവല് മാറി നിര്ത്തിയ ഉടനെ ഗിദെയോനും കൂടെയുള്ള നൂറുപേരും പാളയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റത്തു എത്തി കാഹളം ഊതി കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന കുടങ്ങള് ഉടെച്ചു.

19. So Gideon, and the hundred men that {were} with him, came to the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and broke the pitchers that {were} in their hands.

20. മൂന്നു കൂട്ടവും കാഹളം ഊതി കുടങ്ങള് ഉടെച്ചു; ഇടത്തു കയ്യില് പന്തവും വലത്തു കയ്യില് ഊതുവാന് കാഹളവും പിടിച്ചുയഹോവേക്കും ഗിദെയോന്നും വേണ്ടി വാള് എന്നു ആര്ത്തു.

20. And the three companies blew the trumpets, and broke the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow {with}: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

21. അവര് പാളയത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റും ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ നിലയില് തന്നേ നിന്നു; പാളയമെല്ലാം പാച്ചല് തുടങ്ങി; അവര് നിലവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

21. And they stood every man in his place around the camp; and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

22. ആ മുന്നൂറുപേരും കാഹളം ഊതിയപ്പോള് യഹോവ പാളയത്തിലൊക്കെയും ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ വാള് താന്താന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ നേരെ തിരിപ്പിച്ചു; സൈന്യം സെരേരാവഴിയായി ബേത്ത്--ശിത്താവരെയും തബ്ബത്തിന്നരികെയുള്ള ആബേല്-മെഹോലയുടെ അതിര്വരെയും ഔടിപ്പോയി.

22. And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Beth-shittah in Zereroth, {and} to the border of Abel-meholah, to Tabbath.

23. യിസ്രായേല്യര് നഫ്താലിയില്നിന്നും ആശേരില്നിന്നും മനശ്ശെയില്നിന്നൊക്കെയും ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി മിദ്യാന്യരെ പിന് തുടര്ന്നു.

23. And the men of Israel assembled out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued the Midianites.

24. ഗിദെയോന് എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടില് എല്ലാടവും ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുമിദ്യാന്യരുടെ നേരെ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു ബേത്ത്--ബാരാവരെയുള്ള വെള്ളത്തെയും യോര്ദ്ദാനെയും അവര്ക്കും മുമ്പെ കൈവശമാക്കിക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു പറയിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ എഫ്രയീമ്യര് ഒക്കെയും ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി ബേത്ത്--ബാരാവരെയുള്ള വെള്ളവും യോര്ദ്ദാനും കൈവശമാക്കി.

24. And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters to Beth-barah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim assembled, and took the waters to Beth-barah and Jordan.

25. ഔരേബ്, ശേബ് എന്ന രണ്ടു മിദ്യാന്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെ അവര് പിടിച്ചു, ഔരേബിനെ ഔരേബ് പാറമേലും സേബിനെ സേബ് മുന്തിരിച്ചക്കിന്നരികെയും വെച്ചു കൊന്നിട്ടു മിദ്യാന്യരെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു, ഔരേബിന്റെയും സേബിന്റെയും തല യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ ഗിദെയോന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

25. And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the wine-press of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side of Jordan.
