1. അനന്തരം അവന് തന്റെ ഗൃഹവിചാരകനോടുനീ ഇവരുടെ ചാക്കില് പിടിപ്പതു ധാന്യം നിറച്ചു, ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ ദ്രവ്യം അവനവന്റെ ചാക്കിന്റെ വായ്ക്കല് വെക്കുക.

1. Then he gave orders to the servant who was over his house, saying, Put as much food into the men's bags as will go into them, and put every man's money in the mouth of his bag;

2. ഇളയവന്റെ ചാക്കിന്റെ വായ്ക്കല് വെള്ളികൊണ്ടുള്ള എന്റെ പാനപാത്രവും അവന്റെ ധാന്യവിലയും വെക്കുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു; യോസേഫ് കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ അവന് ചെയ്തു.

2. And put my cup, my silver cup, in the youngest one's bag, with his money. So he did as Joseph said.

3. നേരം വെളുത്തപ്പോള് അവരുടെ കഴുതകളുമായി അവരെ യാത്രഅയച്ചു.

3. And at dawn the men, with their asses, were sent away.

4. അവര് പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ദൂരത്താകുംമുമ്പെ, യോസേഫ് തന്റെ ഗൃഹവിചാരകനോടുഎഴുന്നേറ്റു ആ പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ പിന്നാലെ ഔടിച്ചെല്ലുക; ഒപ്പം എത്തുമ്പോള് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് നന്മെക്കു പകരം തിന്മ ചെയ്തതു എന്തു?

4. And when they had gone only a little way out of the town, Joseph said to the servant who was over his house, Go after them; and when you overtake them, say to them, Why have you done evil in reward for good?

5. അതിലല്ലയോ എന്റെ യജമാനന് കുടിക്കുന്നതു? നിങ്ങള് ഈ ചെയ്തതു ഒട്ടും നന്നല്ല എന്നു പറക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

5. Is not this the cup from which my lord takes wine and by which he gets knowledge of the future? Truly, you have done evil.

6. അവന് അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ഈ വാക്കുകള് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. So he overtook them and said these words to them.

7. അവര് അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുയജമാനന് ഇങ്ങനെ പറയുന്നതു എന്തു? ഈ വക കാര്യം അടിയങ്ങള് ഒരുനാളും ചെയ്കയില്ല.

7. And they said to him, Why does my lord say such words as these? far be it from your servants to do such a thing:

8. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ചാക്കിന്റെ വായ്ക്കല് കണ്ട ദ്രവ്യം ഞങ്ങള് കനാന് ദേശത്തുനിന്നു നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വീണ്ടും കൊണ്ടുവന്നുവല്ലോ; പിന്നെ ഞങ്ങള് നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ വീട്ടില്നിന്നു വെള്ളിയും പൊന്നും മോഷ്ടിക്കുമോ?

8. See, the money which was in the mouth of our bags we gave back to you when we came again from Canaan: how then might we take silver or gold from your lord's house?

9. അടിയങ്ങളില് ആരുടെ പക്കല് എങ്കിലും അതു കണ്ടാല് അവന് മരിക്കട്ടെ; ഞങ്ങളും യജമാനന്നു അടിമകളായിക്കൊള്ളാം.

9. If it comes to light that any of your servants has done this, let him be put to death, and we will be your lord's servants.

10. അതിന്നു അവന് നിങ്ങള് പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ആകട്ടെ; അതു ആരുടെ പക്കല് കാണുന്നുവോ അവന് എനിക്കു അടിമയാകും; നിങ്ങളോ കുറ്റമില്ലാത്തവരായിരിക്കും.

10. And he said, Let it be as you say: he in whose bag it is seen will become my servant; and you will not be responsible.

11. അവര് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചാകൂ നിലത്തു ഇറക്കിഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ചാകൂ അഴിച്ചു.

11. Then every man quickly got his bag down and undid it.

12. അവന് മൂത്തവന്റെ ചാകൂതുടങ്ങി ഇളയവന്റേതുവരെ ശോധന കഴിച്ചു. ബെന്യാമീന്റെ ചാക്കില് പാനപാത്രം കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചു.

12. And he made a search, starting with the oldest and ending with the youngest; and the cup was in Benjamin's bag.

13. അപ്പോള് അവര് വസ്ത്രം കീറി, ചുമടു കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറ്റി പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു.

13. Then in bitter grief they put the bags on the asses again and went back to the town.

14. യെഹൂദയും അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും യോസേഫിന്റെ വീട്ടില് ചെന്നു; അവന് അതുവരെയും അവിടെത്തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു; അവര് അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു.

14. So Judah and his brothers came to Joseph's house; and he was still there: and they went down on their faces before him.

15. യോസേഫ് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് ഈ ചെയ്ത പ്രവൃത്തി എന്തു? എന്നെപ്പോലെയുള്ള ഒരുത്തന്നു ലക്ഷണവിദ്യ അറിയാമെന്നു നിങ്ങള് അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

15. And Joseph said, What is this thing which you have done? had you no thought that such a man as I would have power to see what is secret?

16. അതിന്നു യെഹൂദായജമാനനോടു ഞങ്ങള് എന്തു പറയേണ്ടു? എന്തു ബോധിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടു? എങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ നീതീകരിക്കേണ്ടു? ദൈവം അടിയങ്ങളുടെ അകൃത്യം കണ്ടെത്തി; ഇതാ ഞങ്ങള് യജമാനന്നു അടിമകള്; ഞങ്ങളും ആരുടെ കയ്യില് പാത്രം കണ്ടുവോ അവനും തന്നേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And Judah said, What are we to say to my lord? how may we put ourselves right in his eyes? God has made clear the sin of your servants: now we are in your hands, we and the man in whose bag your cup was seen.

17. അതിന്നു അവന് അങ്ങനെ ഞാന് ഒരുനാളും ചെയ്കയില്ല; ആരുടെ പക്കല് പാത്രം കണ്ടുവോ അവന് തന്നേ എനിക്കു അടിമയായിരിക്കും; നിങ്ങളോ സമാധാനത്തോടെ നിങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. Then he said, Far be it from me to do so: but the man who had my cup will be my servant; and you may go back to your father in peace.

18. അപ്പോള് യെഹൂദാ അടുത്തുചെന്നു പറഞ്ഞതുയജമാനനേ, അടിയന് യജമാനനോടു ഒന്നു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടേ; അടിയന്റെ നേരെ കോപം ജ്വലിക്കരുതേ;

18. Then Judah came near him, and said, Let your servant say a word in my lord's ears, and let not your wrath be burning against your servant: for you are in the place of Pharaoh to us.

19. യജമാനന് ഫറവോനെപ്പോലെയല്ലോ; നിങ്ങള്ക്കു അപ്പനോ സഹോദരനോ ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു യജമാനന് അടിയങ്ങളോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

19. My lord said to his servants, Have you a father or a brother?

20. അതിന്നു ഞങ്ങള് യജമാനനോടുഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വൃദ്ധനായോരു അപ്പനും അവന്നു വാര്ദ്ധക്യത്തില് ജനിച്ച ഒരു മകനും ഉണ്ടു; അവന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠന് മരിച്ചുപോയി; അവന്റെ അമ്മ പ്രസവിച്ചിട്ടു അവന് ഒരുത്തനെ ശേഷിപ്പുള്ളു; അവന് അപ്പന്റെ ഇഷ്ടനാകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And we said to my lord, We have an old father and a young child, whom he had when he was old; his brother is dead and he is the only son of his mother, and is very dear to his father.

21. അപ്പോള് യജമാനന് അടയിങ്ങളോടുഎനിക്കു കാണേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചുവല്ലോ.

21. And you said to your servants, Let him come down to me with you, so that I may see him.

22. ഞങ്ങള് യജമാനനോടുബാലന്നു അപ്പനെ പിരിഞ്ഞുകൂടാ; പിരിഞ്ഞാല് അപ്പന് മരിച്ചുപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And we said to my lord, His father will not let him go; for if he went away his father would come to his death.

23. അതിന്നു യജമാനന് അടിയങ്ങളോടു നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇളയസഹോദരന് നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരാതിരുന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് എന്റെ മുഖം ഇനി കാണുകയില്ല എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

23. But you said to your servants, If your youngest brother does not come with you, you will not see my face again.

24. അവിടത്തെ അടിയാനായ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഞങ്ങള് ചെന്നു യജമാനന്റെ വാക്കുകളെ അറിയിച്ചു.

24. And when we went back to your servant, our father, we gave him an account of my lord's words.

25. അനന്തരം ഞങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പന് നിങ്ങള് ഇനിയും പോയി കുറെ ധാന്യം നമുക്കു കൊള്ളുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

25. And our father said, Go again and get us a little food.

26. അതിന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ഞങ്ങള് പൊയ്ക്കൂടാ; അനുജന് കൂടെ ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് ഞങ്ങള് പോകാം; അനുജന് ഇല്ലാതെ ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മുഖം കാണ്മാന് പാടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. And we said, Only if our youngest brother goes with us will we go down; for we may not see the man's face again if our youngest brother is not with us.

27. അപ്പോള് അവിടത്തെ അടിയാനായ അപ്പന് ഞങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഎന്റെ ഭാര്യ എനിക്കു രണ്ടുപുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിച്ചു എന്നു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു അറിയാമല്ലോ.

27. And our father said to us, You have knowledge that my wife gave me two sons;

28. അവരില് ഒരുത്തന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു പോയി; അവനെ പറിച്ചു കീറിപ്പോയി നിശ്ചയം എന്നു ഞാന് ഉറെച്ചു; ഇതുവരെ ഞാന് അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടുമില്ല.

28. The one went away from me, and I said, Truly he has come to a violent death; and from that time I have not seen him,

29. നിങ്ങള് ഇവനെയും കൊണ്ടുപോയിട്ടു അവന്നു വല്ല ആപത്തും വന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് എന്റെ നരയെ ദുഃഖത്തോടെ പാതാളത്തില് ഇറങ്ങുമാറാക്കും.

29. If now you take this one from me, and some evil comes to him, you will make my grey head go down in sorrow to the underworld.

30. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഇപ്പോള് ബാലന് കൂടെയില്ലാതെ ഞാന് അവിടത്തെ അടിയാനായ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെല്ലുമ്പോള്, അവന്റെ പ്രാണന് ഇവന്റെ പ്രാണനോടു പറ്റിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു,

30. If then I go back to your servant, my father, without the boy, because his life and the boy's life are one,

31. ബാലന് ഇല്ലെന്നു കണ്ടാന് അവന് മരിച്ചുപോകും; അങ്ങനെ അടിയങ്ങള് അവിടെത്തെ അടിയാനായ അപ്പന്റെ നരയെ ദുഃഖത്തോടെ പാതാളത്തില് ഇറങ്ങുമാറാക്കും.

31. When he sees that the boy is not with us, he will come to his death, and our father's grey head will go down in sorrow to the underworld.

32. അടിയന് അപ്പനോടുഅവനെ നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരാതിരുന്നാല് ഞാന് എന്നും അപ്പന്നു കുറ്റക്കാരനായിക്കൊളാമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു, അപ്പനോടു ബാലന്നുവേണ്ടി ഉത്തരവാദിയായിരിക്കുന്നു.

32. For I made myself responsible for the boy to my father, saying, If I do not give him safely back to you, let mine be the sin for ever.

33. ആകയാല് ബാലന്നു പകരം അടിയന് യജമാനന്നു അടിമയായിരിപ്പാനും ബാലന് സഹോദരന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പൊയ്ക്കൊള്യവാനും അനുവദിക്കേണമേ.

33. So now let me be my lord's servant here in place of the boy, and let him go back with his brothers.

34. ബാലന് കൂടെ ഇല്ലാതെ ഞാന് എങ്ങനെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോകും? അപ്പന്നു ഭവിക്കുന്ന ദോഷം ഞാന് കാണേണ്ടിവരുമല്ലോ.

34. For how may I go back to my father without the boy, and see the evil which will come on my father?
