1. ഞങ്ങള് മതില് പണിയുന്നു എന്നു സന് ബല്ലത്ത് കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവന് കോപവും മഹാരോഷവും പൂണ്ടു യെഹൂദന്മാരെ നിന്ദിച്ചു.

1. But when Sanaballat hearde that we buylded the wall, he was wroth in him selfe, and toke great indignation, and mocked the Iewes:

2. ഈ ദുര്ബ്ബലന്മാരായ യെഹൂദന്മാര് എന്തു ചെയ്വാന് പോകുന്നു? അവരെ സമ്മതിക്കുമോ അവര് യാഗം കഴിക്കുമോ? ഒരു ദിവസംകൊണ്ടു പണി തീര്ത്തുകളയുമോ? വെന്തുകിടക്കുന്ന ചണ്ടിക്കൂമ്പാരങ്ങളില് നിന്നു അവര് കല്ലു ജീവിപ്പിക്കുമോ എന്നിങ്ങനെ തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും ശമര്യ്യാസൈന്യവും കേള്ക്കെ പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And sayde before his brethren and the souldiers of Samaria: what do these impotent Iewes? will the [heathen] suffer them? shall they offer? shal they perfourme it in one day? shal they make the stones whole againe that are brought to dust and brent?

3. അപ്പോള് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നിരുന്ന അമ്മോന്യനായ തോബീയാവുഅവര് എങ്ങനെ പണിതാലും ഒരു കുറുക്കന് കയറിയാല് അവരുടെ കന്മതില് ഉരുണ്ടുവീഴും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and sayde: Though they buyld, yet if a foxe go vp, he shall breake downe their stony wall.

4. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമേ, കേള്ക്കേണമേ; ഞങ്ങള് നിന്ദിതന്മാര് ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ നിന്ദയെ അവരുടെ സ്വന്തതലയിലേക്കു തിരിച്ചു പ്രവാസദേശത്തില് അവരെ കവര്ച്ചെക്കു ഏല്പിക്കേണമേ.

4. Heare O thou our God, for we are despised, turne their shame vpon their owne head, & geue them ouer into despising in the lande of their captiuitie.

5. പണിയുന്നവര് കേള്ക്കെ അവര് നിന്നെ കോപിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കയാല് അവരുടെ അകൃത്യം മറെക്കരുതേ; അവരുടെ പാപം നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് നിന്നു മാഞ്ഞുപോകയും അരുതേ.

5. Couer not their wickednesse, and let not their sinne be put out in thy presence: for they haue prouoked the buylders.

6. അങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങള് മതില് പണിതു; വേല ചെയ്വാന് ജനത്തിന്നു ഉത്സാഹം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു മതില് മഴുവനും പാതിപൊക്കംവരെ തീര്ത്തു.

6. And so buylded we the wall, and it was ioyned whole together vnto the halfe heyght thereof: And the people were minded to labour.

7. യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ മതിലുകള് അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ന്നുവരുന്നു എന്നും ഇടിവുകള് അടഞ്ഞുതുടങ്ങി എന്നും സന് ബല്ലത്തും തോബീയാവും അരാബ്യരും അമ്മോന്യരും അസ്തോദ്യരും കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവര്ക്കും മഹാകോപം ജനിച്ചു.

7. But when Sanaballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, Ammonites, and Asdodites, heard that the walles of Hierusalem were made vp, & that the breaches began to be stopped, they were very wroth,

8. യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ നേരെ ചെന്നു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നും അവിടെ കലക്കം വരുത്തേണ്ടതിന്നും അവര് ഒക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി.

8. And conspired all together to come and fight against Hierusalem, and to make an hinderaunce therin.

9. ഞങ്ങളോ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു; അവരുടെ നിമിത്തം രാവും പകലും കാവല്ക്കാരെ ആക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു.

9. Neuerthelesse, we made our prayer vnto our God, and set watchmen by them day and night, because of them.

10. എന്നാല് യെഹൂദ്യര്ചുമട്ടുകാരുടെ ശക്തി ക്ഷയിച്ചുപോകുന്നു; കല്ലും മണ്ണും ഇനിയും വളരെ കിടക്കുന്നു; ആകയാല് മതില് പണിവാന് നമുക്കു കഴികയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And Iuda sayde: The strength of the bearers is feeble, and there is yet much more morter, and we are not able to buylde on the wall.

11. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ശത്രുക്കളോനാം അവരുടെ ഇടയില് ചെന്നു അവരെ കൊന്നു പണി മുടക്കുന്നതുവരെ അവര് ഒന്നും അറികയും കാണുകയും അരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And our aduersaries sayde: They shall not knowe, neither see, till we come in the middes among them, and slay them, and cause the worke to ceasse.

12. അവരുടെ സമീപം പാര്ത്ത യെഹൂദന്മാര് പല സ്ഥലങ്ങളില്നിന്നും വന്നു; നിങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വരുവിന് എന്നു പത്തു പ്രാവശ്യം ഞങ്ങളോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

12. But when the Iewes which dwelt beside them, came, they told vs as good as ten times, that in all places where ye go vnto, they are appoynted to fal vpon vs.

13. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് മതിലിന്റെ പിമ്പുറത്തു പൊക്കം കുറഞ്ഞ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും തുറന്നുകിടക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും ആളുകളെ ആക്കി ജനത്തെ കുടുംബം കുടുംബമായി വാളുകളോടും കുന്തങ്ങളോടും വില്ലുകളോടും കൂടെ നിര്ത്തി.

13. Therefore set I the people after their kinredes, with their swordes, speares, and bowes, beneath in the lowe places behinde the wall vpon the toppes of the stones.

14. ഞാന് നോക്കി എഴുന്നേറ്റുനിന്നു പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും പ്രമാണികളോടും ശേഷം ജനത്തോടുംനിങ്ങള് അവരെ പേടിക്കേണ്ടാ; വലിയവനും ഭയങ്കരനുമായ കര്ത്താവിനെ ഔര്ത്തു നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കും പുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും പുത്രിമാര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാര്ക്കും വീടുകള്ക്കും വേണ്ടി പൊരുതുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. And I loked, and gat me vp, and sayde vnto the chiefe men, to the rulers, and to the other people, Be not ye afrayde of them: but thinke rather vpon the great Lorde whiche ought to be feared, and fight for your brethre, your sonnes, your daughters, your wiues, & your houses.

15. ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു അറിവു കിട്ടിപ്പോയെന്നും ദൈവം അവരുടെ ആലോചനയെ നിഷ്ഫലമാക്കിയെന്നും ഞങ്ങളുടെ ശത്രുക്കള് കേട്ടശേഷം ഞങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും മതിലിങ്കല് താന്താന്റെ വേലെക്കു മടങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുവാനിടയായി.

15. Neuerthelesse, when our enemies heard that we had gotten worde of it, God brought their counsell to naught: and we turned all againe to the wall, euery one vnto his labour.

16. അന്നുമുതലക്കു എന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരില് പാതിപേര് വേലെക്കു നിന്നു പാതിപേര് കുന്തവും പരിചയും വില്ലും കവചവും ധരിച്ചു നിന്നു; മതില് പണിയുന്ന എല്ലാ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെയും പുറകില് പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് നിന്നു;

16. And from that time foorth, the halfe part of the young men dyd the labour, and the other halfe part of them helde the speares, shieldes, bowes, and brestplates: and the rulers stoode behinde all the house of Iuda.

17. ചുമടെടുക്കുന്ന ചുമട്ടുകാര് ഒരു കൈകൊണ്ടു വേല ചെയ്കയും മറ്റെ കൈകൊണ്ടു ആയുധം പിടിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

17. They which buylded on the wall and they that bare burthens, and those that laded them, with one hande did euery one his worke, and with the other helde his weapon.

18. പണിയുന്നവര് അരെക്കു വാള് കെട്ടിയുംകൊണ്ടു പണിതു. എന്നാല് കാഹളം ഊതുന്നവന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു.

18. For euery one that buylded had his sword girded by his thingh, and so buylded they: And he that blewe the trumpet was beside me.

19. ഞാന് പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും പ്രമാണികളോടും ശേഷംജനത്തോടുംവേല വലിയതും വിശാലമായതും ആകുന്നു; നാം മതിലിന്മേല് ചിതറി തമ്മില് തമ്മില് അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. And I saide vnto the principall men, to the rulers, and to the other people: The worke is great and large, & we are seperated vpon the wall one farre from another.

20. നിങ്ങള് കാഹളനാദം കേള്ക്കുന്നേടത്തു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് കൂടിക്കൊള്വിന് ; നമ്മുടെ ദൈവം നമുക്കു വേണ്ടി യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. Loke in what place therefore ye heare the noyse of the trumpet, resort ye thither vnto vs, and our God shall fight for vs:

21. അങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങള് പണി നടത്തി; പാതിപേര് നേരം വെളുക്കുമ്പോള്തുടങ്ങി നക്ഷത്രം പ്രകാശിക്കുന്നതുവരെ കുന്തം പിടിച്ചുനിന്നു.

21. And we wil be labouring in the worke. And the halfe part of them helde their speares from the morning spring, tyll the starres came foorth.

22. ആ കാലത്തു ഞാന് ജനത്തോടുരാത്രിയില് നമുക്കു കാവലിന്നും പകല് വേല ചെയ്യുന്നതിന്നും ഉതകത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ വേലക്കാരനുമായി യെരൂശലേമിന്നകത്തു പാര്ക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And at the same time saide I vnto the people: Let euery one with his seruaut lodge within Hierusalem, that in the night season we may watch, and labour on the day time.

23. ഞാനോ എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോ എന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരോ എന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള കാവല്ക്കാരോ ആരും ഉടുപ്പു മാറിയില്ല; കുളിക്കുന്ന സമയത്തുകൂടെയും ആയുധം ധരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

23. As for me and my brethren, my seruauntes, and the men of the watch which folowed me, we put neuer of our clothes, saue onely because of the wasshing.
