1. ചുങ്കക്കാരും പാപികളും എല്ലാം അവന്റെ വചനം കേള്പ്പാന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

1. Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.

2. ഇവന് പാപികളെ കൈക്കൊണ്ടു അവരോടുകൂടി ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പരീശന്മാരും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പറഞ്ഞു പിറുപിറുത്തു.

2. And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, 'This Man receives sinners and eats with them.'

3. അവരോടു അവന് ഈ ഉപമ പറഞ്ഞു

3. So He spoke this parable to them, saying:

4. നിങ്ങളില് ഒരു ആള്ക്കു നൂറു ആടുണ്ടു എന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ. അതില് ഒന്നു കാണാതെ പോയാല് അവന് തൊണ്ണൂറ്റൊമ്പതിനെയും മരുഭൂമിയില് വിട്ടേച്ചു. ആ കാണാതെപോയതിനെ കണ്ടെത്തുംവരെ നോക്കി നടക്കാതിരിക്കുമോ?

4. 'What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?

5. കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയാല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു ചുമലില് എടുത്തു വീട്ടില് വന്നു സ്നേഹിതന്മാരെയും അയല്ക്കാരെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി

5. 'And when he has found [it,] he lays [it] on his shoulders, rejoicing.

6. കാണാതെ പോയ എന്റെ ആടിനെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു എന്നോടു കൂടെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിന് എന്നു അവരോടു പറയും.

6. 'And when he comes home, he calls together [his] friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!'

7. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ മാനസാന്തരം കൊണ്ടു ആവശ്യമില്ലാത്ത തൊണ്ണൂറ്റൊമ്പതു നീതിമാന്മാരെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ളതിനെക്കാള് മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു പാപിയെച്ചൊല്ലി സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് അധികം സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

7. 'I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

9. കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയാല് സ്നേഹിതമാരെയും അയല്ക്കാരത്തികളെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടികാണാതെപോയ ദ്രഹ്മ കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു എന്നോടുകൂടെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറയും. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു പാപിയെക്കുറിച്ചു ദൈവദൂതന്മാരുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

9. 'And when she has found [it,] she calls [her] friends and neighbors together, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!'

10. പിന്നെയും അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു മനുഷ്യന്നു രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

10. 'Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.'

11. അവരില് ഇളയവന് അപ്പനോടുഅപ്പാ, വസ്തുവില് എനിക്കു വരേണ്ടുന്ന പങ്കു തരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവന് അവര്ക്കും മുതല് പകുത്തുകൊടുത്തു.

11. Then He said: 'A certain man had two sons.

12. ഏറെനാള് കഴിയുംമുമ്പെ ഇളയമകന് സകലവും സ്വരൂപിച്ചു ദൂരദേശത്തേക്കു യാത്രയായി അവിടെ ദുര്ന്നടപ്പുകാരനായി ജീവിച്ചു, വസ്തു നാനാവിധമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

12. 'And the younger of them said to [his] father, 'Father, give me the portion of goods that falls [to me.'] So he divided to them [his] livelihood.

13. എല്ലാം ചെലവഴിച്ചശേഷം ആ ദേശത്തു കഠിനക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായിട്ടു അവന്നു മുട്ടുവന്നു തുടങ്ങി.

13. 'And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.

14. അവന് ആ ദേശത്തിലേ പൌരന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ ചെന്നു ആശ്രയിച്ചു.

14. 'But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want.

15. അവന് അവനെ തന്റെ വയലില് പന്നികളെ മേയ്പാന് അയച്ചു.

15. 'Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16. പന്നി തിന്നുന്ന വാളവരകൊണ്ടു വയറു നിറെപ്പാന് അവന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു എങ്കിലും ആരും അവന്നു കൊടുത്തില്ല.

16. 'And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him [anything.]

17. അപ്പോള് സുബോധം വന്നിട്ടു അവന് എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ എത്ര കൂലിക്കാര് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു ശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഞാനോ വിശപ്പുകൊണ്ടു നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നു.

17. 'But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18. ഞാന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവനോടുഅപ്പാ, ഞാന് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തോടും നിന്നോടും പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. 'I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,

19. ഇനി നിന്റെ മകന് എന്ന പേരിന്നു ഞാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല; നിന്റെ കൂലിക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തനെപ്പോലെ എന്നെ ആക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. 'and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.' '

20. അങ്ങനെ അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി. ദൂരത്തു നിന്നു തന്നേ അപ്പന് അവനെ കണ്ടു മനസ്സലിഞ്ഞു ഔടിച്ചെന്നു അവന്റെ കഴുത്തു കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചു അവനെ ചുംബിച്ചു.

20. 'And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

21. മകന് അവനോടുഅപ്പാ, ഞാന് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തോടും നിന്നോടും പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനി നിന്റെ മകന് എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുവാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. 'And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

22. അപ്പന് തന്റെ ദാസന്മാരോടുവേഗം മേല്ത്തരമായ അങ്കി കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഇവനെ ധരിപ്പിപ്പിന് ; ഇവന്റെ കൈകൂ മോതിരവും കാലിന്നു ചെരിപ്പും ഇടുവിപ്പിന് .

22. 'But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put [it] on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on [his] feet.

23. തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അറുപ്പിന് ; നാം തിന്നു ആനന്ദിക്ക.

23. 'And bring the fatted calf here and kill [it,] and let us eat and be merry;

24. ഈ എന്റെ മകന് മരിച്ചവനായിരുന്നു; വീണ്ടും ജീവിച്ചു; കാണാതെ പോയിരുന്നു; കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് ആനന്ദിച്ചു തുടങ്ങി.

24. 'for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.

25. അവന്റെ മൂത്തമകന് വയലില് ആയിരുന്നു; അവന് വന്നു വീട്ടിനോടു അടുത്തപ്പോള് വാദ്യവും നൃത്തഘോഷവും കേട്ടു,

25. 'Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

26. ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ വിളിച്ചുഇതെന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

26. 'So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant.

27. അവന് അവനോടുനിന്റെ സഹോദരന് വന്നു; നിന്റെ അപ്പന് അവനെ സൌഖ്യത്തോടെ കിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ അറുത്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. 'And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.'

28. അപ്പോള് അവന് കോപിച്ചു, അകത്തു കടപ്പാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ നിന്നു; അപ്പന് പുറത്തു വന്നു അവനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

28. 'But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.

29. അവന് അവനോടുഇത്ര കാലമായി ഞാന് നിന്നെ സേവിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ കല്പന ഒരിക്കലും ലംഘിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; എന്നാല് എന്റെ ചങ്ങതികളുമായി ആനന്ദിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ഒരിക്കലും എനിക്കു ഒരു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ തന്നിട്ടില്ല.

29. 'So he answered and said to [his] father, 'Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.

30. വേശ്യമാരോടു കൂടി നിന്റെ മുതല് തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞ ഈ നിന്റെ മകന് വന്നപ്പോഴേക്കോ തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ അവന്നുവേണ്ടി അറുത്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

30. 'But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.'

31. അതിന്നു അവന് അവനോടുമകനേ, നീ എപ്പോഴും എന്നോടു കൂടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നവല്ലോ; എനിക്കുള്ളതു എല്ലാം നിന്റെതു ആകുന്നു.

31. 'And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.

32. നിന്റെ ഈ സഹോദരനോ മരിച്ചവനായിരുന്നു; വീണ്ടും ജീവച്ചു; കാണാതെ പോയിരുന്നു; കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ആകയാല് ആനന്ദിച്ചു സന്തോഷിക്കേണ്ടതാവശ്യമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. 'It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.' '
