1. ചുങ്കക്കാരും പാപികളും എല്ലാം അവന്റെ വചനം കേള്പ്പാന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

1. And all the tax-gatherers and the sinners were coming nigh to him, to hear him,

2. ഇവന് പാപികളെ കൈക്കൊണ്ടു അവരോടുകൂടി ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പരീശന്മാരും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പറഞ്ഞു പിറുപിറുത്തു.

2. and the Pharisees and the scribes were murmuring, saying -- This one doth receive sinners, and doth eat with them.'

3. അവരോടു അവന് ഈ ഉപമ പറഞ്ഞു

3. And he spake unto them this simile, saying,

4. നിങ്ങളില് ഒരു ആള്ക്കു നൂറു ആടുണ്ടു എന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ. അതില് ഒന്നു കാണാതെ പോയാല് അവന് തൊണ്ണൂറ്റൊമ്പതിനെയും മരുഭൂമിയില് വിട്ടേച്ചു. ആ കാണാതെപോയതിനെ കണ്ടെത്തുംവരെ നോക്കി നടക്കാതിരിക്കുമോ?

4. 'What man of you having a hundred sheep, and having lost one out of them, doth not leave behind the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go on after the lost one, till he may find it?

5. കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയാല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു ചുമലില് എടുത്തു വീട്ടില് വന്നു സ്നേഹിതന്മാരെയും അയല്ക്കാരെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി

5. and having found, he doth lay [it] on his shoulders rejoicing,

6. കാണാതെ പോയ എന്റെ ആടിനെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു എന്നോടു കൂടെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിന് എന്നു അവരോടു പറയും.

6. and having come to the house, he doth call together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, because I found my sheep -- the lost one.

7. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ മാനസാന്തരം കൊണ്ടു ആവശ്യമില്ലാത്ത തൊണ്ണൂറ്റൊമ്പതു നീതിമാന്മാരെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ളതിനെക്കാള് മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു പാപിയെച്ചൊല്ലി സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് അധികം സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

7. 'I say to you, that so joy shall be in the heaven over one sinner reforming, rather than over ninety-nine righteous men, who have no need of reformation.

9. കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയാല് സ്നേഹിതമാരെയും അയല്ക്കാരത്തികളെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടികാണാതെപോയ ദ്രഹ്മ കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു എന്നോടുകൂടെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറയും. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു പാപിയെക്കുറിച്ചു ദൈവദൂതന്മാരുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

9. and having found, she doth call together the female friends and the neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me, for I found the drachm that I lost.

10. പിന്നെയും അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു മനുഷ്യന്നു രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

10. 'So I say to you, joy doth come before the messengers of God over one sinner reforming.'

11. അവരില് ഇളയവന് അപ്പനോടുഅപ്പാ, വസ്തുവില് എനിക്കു വരേണ്ടുന്ന പങ്കു തരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവന് അവര്ക്കും മുതല് പകുത്തുകൊടുത്തു.

11. And he said, 'A certain man had two sons,

12. ഏറെനാള് കഴിയുംമുമ്പെ ഇളയമകന് സകലവും സ്വരൂപിച്ചു ദൂരദേശത്തേക്കു യാത്രയായി അവിടെ ദുര്ന്നടപ്പുകാരനായി ജീവിച്ചു, വസ്തു നാനാവിധമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

12. and the younger of them said to the father, Father, give me the portion of the substance falling to [me], and he divided to them the living.

13. എല്ലാം ചെലവഴിച്ചശേഷം ആ ദേശത്തു കഠിനക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായിട്ടു അവന്നു മുട്ടുവന്നു തുടങ്ങി.

13. 'And not many days after, having gathered all together, the younger son went abroad to a far country, and there he scattered his substance, living riotously;

14. അവന് ആ ദേശത്തിലേ പൌരന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ ചെന്നു ആശ്രയിച്ചു.

14. and he having spent all, there came a mighty famine on that country, and himself began to be in want;

15. അവന് അവനെ തന്റെ വയലില് പന്നികളെ മേയ്പാന് അയച്ചു.

15. and having gone on, he joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him to the fields to feed swine,

16. പന്നി തിന്നുന്ന വാളവരകൊണ്ടു വയറു നിറെപ്പാന് അവന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു എങ്കിലും ആരും അവന്നു കൊടുത്തില്ല.

16. and he was desirous to fill his belly from the husks that the swine were eating, and no one was giving to him.

17. അപ്പോള് സുബോധം വന്നിട്ടു അവന് എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ എത്ര കൂലിക്കാര് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു ശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഞാനോ വിശപ്പുകൊണ്ടു നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നു.

17. 'And having come to himself, he said, How many hirelings of my father have a superabundance of bread, and I here with hunger am perishing!

18. ഞാന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവനോടുഅപ്പാ, ഞാന് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തോടും നിന്നോടും പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. having risen, I will go on unto my father, and will say to him, Father, I did sin -- to the heaven, and before thee,

19. ഇനി നിന്റെ മകന് എന്ന പേരിന്നു ഞാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല; നിന്റെ കൂലിക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തനെപ്പോലെ എന്നെ ആക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. and no more am I worthy to be called thy son; make me as one of thy hirelings.

20. അങ്ങനെ അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി. ദൂരത്തു നിന്നു തന്നേ അപ്പന് അവനെ കണ്ടു മനസ്സലിഞ്ഞു ഔടിച്ചെന്നു അവന്റെ കഴുത്തു കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചു അവനെ ചുംബിച്ചു.

20. 'And having risen, he went unto his own father, and he being yet far distant, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and having ran he fell upon his neck and kissed him;

21. മകന് അവനോടുഅപ്പാ, ഞാന് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തോടും നിന്നോടും പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനി നിന്റെ മകന് എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുവാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. and the son said to him, Father, I did sin -- to the heaven, and before thee, and no more am I worthy to be called thy son.

22. അപ്പന് തന്റെ ദാസന്മാരോടുവേഗം മേല്ത്തരമായ അങ്കി കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഇവനെ ധരിപ്പിപ്പിന് ; ഇവന്റെ കൈകൂ മോതിരവും കാലിന്നു ചെരിപ്പും ഇടുവിപ്പിന് .

22. 'And the father said unto his servants, Bring forth the first robe, and clothe him, and give a ring for his hand, and sandals for the feet;

23. തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അറുപ്പിന് ; നാം തിന്നു ആനന്ദിക്ക.

23. and having brought the fatted calf, kill [it], and having eaten, we may be merry,

24. ഈ എന്റെ മകന് മരിച്ചവനായിരുന്നു; വീണ്ടും ജീവിച്ചു; കാണാതെ പോയിരുന്നു; കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് ആനന്ദിച്ചു തുടങ്ങി.

24. because this my son was dead, and did live again, and he was lost, and was found; and they began to be merry.

25. അവന്റെ മൂത്തമകന് വയലില് ആയിരുന്നു; അവന് വന്നു വീട്ടിനോടു അടുത്തപ്പോള് വാദ്യവും നൃത്തഘോഷവും കേട്ടു,

25. 'And his elder son was in a field, and as, coming, he drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing,

26. ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ വിളിച്ചുഇതെന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

26. and having called near one of the young men, he was inquiring what these things might be,

27. അവന് അവനോടുനിന്റെ സഹോദരന് വന്നു; നിന്റെ അപ്പന് അവനെ സൌഖ്യത്തോടെ കിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ അറുത്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. and he said to him -- Thy brother is arrived, and thy father did kill the fatted calf, because in health he did receive him back.

28. അപ്പോള് അവന് കോപിച്ചു, അകത്തു കടപ്പാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ നിന്നു; അപ്പന് പുറത്തു വന്നു അവനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

28. 'And he was angry, and would not go in, therefore his father, having come forth, was entreating him;

29. അവന് അവനോടുഇത്ര കാലമായി ഞാന് നിന്നെ സേവിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ കല്പന ഒരിക്കലും ലംഘിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; എന്നാല് എന്റെ ചങ്ങതികളുമായി ആനന്ദിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ഒരിക്കലും എനിക്കു ഒരു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ തന്നിട്ടില്ല.

29. and he answering said to the father, Lo, so many years I do serve thee, and never thy command did I transgress, and to me thou didst never give a kid, that with my friends I might make merry;

30. വേശ്യമാരോടു കൂടി നിന്റെ മുതല് തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞ ഈ നിന്റെ മകന് വന്നപ്പോഴേക്കോ തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ അവന്നുവേണ്ടി അറുത്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

30. but when thy son -- this one who did devour thy living with harlots -- came, thou didst kill to him the fatted calf.

31. അതിന്നു അവന് അവനോടുമകനേ, നീ എപ്പോഴും എന്നോടു കൂടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നവല്ലോ; എനിക്കുള്ളതു എല്ലാം നിന്റെതു ആകുന്നു.

31. 'And he said to him, Child, thou art always with me, and all my things are thine;

32. നിന്റെ ഈ സഹോദരനോ മരിച്ചവനായിരുന്നു; വീണ്ടും ജീവച്ചു; കാണാതെ പോയിരുന്നു; കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ആകയാല് ആനന്ദിച്ചു സന്തോഷിക്കേണ്ടതാവശ്യമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. but to be merry, and to be glad, it was needful, because this thy brother was dead, and did live again, he was lost, and was found.'
