1. ചുങ്കക്കാരും പാപികളും എല്ലാം അവന്റെ വചനം കേള്പ്പാന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

1. Then resorted vnto hym all the publicanes and sinners, for to heare hym.

2. ഇവന് പാപികളെ കൈക്കൊണ്ടു അവരോടുകൂടി ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പരീശന്മാരും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പറഞ്ഞു പിറുപിറുത്തു.

2. And the pharisees & scribes murmured, saying: he receaueth sinners, and eateth with them.

3. അവരോടു അവന് ഈ ഉപമ പറഞ്ഞു

3. But he put foorth this parable vnto them, saying:

4. നിങ്ങളില് ഒരു ആള്ക്കു നൂറു ആടുണ്ടു എന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ. അതില് ഒന്നു കാണാതെ പോയാല് അവന് തൊണ്ണൂറ്റൊമ്പതിനെയും മരുഭൂമിയില് വിട്ടേച്ചു. ആ കാണാതെപോയതിനെ കണ്ടെത്തുംവരെ നോക്കി നടക്കാതിരിക്കുമോ?

4. What man of you, hauyng an hundred sheepe, if he loose one of them, doth not leaue ninetie and nine in the wildernesse, and go after that which is lost, vntyll he fynde it?

5. കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയാല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു ചുമലില് എടുത്തു വീട്ടില് വന്നു സ്നേഹിതന്മാരെയും അയല്ക്കാരെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി

5. And when he hath founde it, he layeth it on his shoulders with ioy:

6. കാണാതെ പോയ എന്റെ ആടിനെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു എന്നോടു കൂടെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിന് എന്നു അവരോടു പറയും.

6. And assoone as he commeth home, he calleth together his louers and neyghbours, saying vnto them: Reioyce with me, for I haue founde my sheepe which was lost.

7. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ മാനസാന്തരം കൊണ്ടു ആവശ്യമില്ലാത്ത തൊണ്ണൂറ്റൊമ്പതു നീതിമാന്മാരെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ളതിനെക്കാള് മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു പാപിയെച്ചൊല്ലി സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് അധികം സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

7. I say vnto you, that lykewyse ioy shalbe in heauen ouer one sinner that repenteth, more then ouer ninetie and nine iust persons, which neede no repentaunce.

9. കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയാല് സ്നേഹിതമാരെയും അയല്ക്കാരത്തികളെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടികാണാതെപോയ ദ്രഹ്മ കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു എന്നോടുകൂടെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറയും. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു പാപിയെക്കുറിച്ചു ദൈവദൂതന്മാരുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

9. And when she hath founde it, she calleth her louers & her neyghbours together, saying: Reioyce with me, for I haue founde the peece which I had lost.

10. പിന്നെയും അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു മനുഷ്യന്നു രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

10. Lykewyse I say vnto you, shall there be ioy in the presence of the Angels of God, ouer one sinner that repenteth.

11. അവരില് ഇളയവന് അപ്പനോടുഅപ്പാ, വസ്തുവില് എനിക്കു വരേണ്ടുന്ന പങ്കു തരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവന് അവര്ക്കും മുതല് പകുത്തുകൊടുത്തു.

11. And he sayde. A certayne man had two sonnes:

12. ഏറെനാള് കഴിയുംമുമ്പെ ഇളയമകന് സകലവും സ്വരൂപിച്ചു ദൂരദേശത്തേക്കു യാത്രയായി അവിടെ ദുര്ന്നടപ്പുകാരനായി ജീവിച്ചു, വസ്തു നാനാവിധമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

12. And the younger of them sayde to his father: father, geue me the portion of the goodes, that to me belongeth. And he deuided vnto them his substaunce.

13. എല്ലാം ചെലവഴിച്ചശേഷം ആ ദേശത്തു കഠിനക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായിട്ടു അവന്നു മുട്ടുവന്നു തുടങ്ങി.

13. And not long after, when the younger sonne had gathered all that he had together, he toke his iourney into a farre countrey, and there wasted his goodes with riotous lyuyng.

14. അവന് ആ ദേശത്തിലേ പൌരന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ ചെന്നു ആശ്രയിച്ചു.

14. And when he had spent all, there arose a great dearth in all that lande, and he began to lacke.

15. അവന് അവനെ തന്റെ വയലില് പന്നികളെ മേയ്പാന് അയച്ചു.

15. And he ioyned hym selfe to a citizen of that countrey: and he sent hym to his farme, to feede swyne.

16. പന്നി തിന്നുന്ന വാളവരകൊണ്ടു വയറു നിറെപ്പാന് അവന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു എങ്കിലും ആരും അവന്നു കൊടുത്തില്ല.

16. And he woulde fayne haue fylled his belly with the coddes that the swyne dyd eate: and no man gaue vnto hym.

17. അപ്പോള് സുബോധം വന്നിട്ടു അവന് എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ എത്ര കൂലിക്കാര് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു ശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഞാനോ വിശപ്പുകൊണ്ടു നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നു.

17. Then he came to hym selfe, and sayde: Howe many hyred seruauntes at my fathers house haue bread inough, and I perishe with hunger?

18. ഞാന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവനോടുഅപ്പാ, ഞാന് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തോടും നിന്നോടും പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. I wyll aryse, and go to my father, and wyll say vnto hym: Father, I haue sinned agaynst heauen, and before thee,

19. ഇനി നിന്റെ മകന് എന്ന പേരിന്നു ഞാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല; നിന്റെ കൂലിക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തനെപ്പോലെ എന്നെ ആക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. And am no more worthy to be called thy sonne, make me as one of thy hyred seruauntes.

20. അങ്ങനെ അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി. ദൂരത്തു നിന്നു തന്നേ അപ്പന് അവനെ കണ്ടു മനസ്സലിഞ്ഞു ഔടിച്ചെന്നു അവന്റെ കഴുത്തു കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചു അവനെ ചുംബിച്ചു.

20. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way of, his father sawe him, & had compassion, and ranne, and fell on his necke, and kissed hym.

21. മകന് അവനോടുഅപ്പാ, ഞാന് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തോടും നിന്നോടും പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനി നിന്റെ മകന് എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുവാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. And the sonne sayde vnto him: Father, I haue sinned agaynst heauen, and in thy syght, and am no more worthy to be called thy sonne.

22. അപ്പന് തന്റെ ദാസന്മാരോടുവേഗം മേല്ത്തരമായ അങ്കി കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഇവനെ ധരിപ്പിപ്പിന് ; ഇവന്റെ കൈകൂ മോതിരവും കാലിന്നു ചെരിപ്പും ഇടുവിപ്പിന് .

22. But the father saide to his seruauntes: bryng foorth the best garment, and put it on hym, and put a ryng on his hande, and shoes on his feete:

23. തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അറുപ്പിന് ; നാം തിന്നു ആനന്ദിക്ക.

23. And bryng [hyther] that fat calfe, and kyll it, and let vs eate and be mery:

24. ഈ എന്റെ മകന് മരിച്ചവനായിരുന്നു; വീണ്ടും ജീവിച്ചു; കാണാതെ പോയിരുന്നു; കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് ആനന്ദിച്ചു തുടങ്ങി.

24. For this my sonne was dead, and is aliue agayne, he was lost, and is founde. And they began to be mery.

25. അവന്റെ മൂത്തമകന് വയലില് ആയിരുന്നു; അവന് വന്നു വീട്ടിനോടു അടുത്തപ്പോള് വാദ്യവും നൃത്തഘോഷവും കേട്ടു,

25. The elder brother was in the fielde: and when he came and drewe nye to the house, he hearde minstrelsie & daunsing,

26. ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ വിളിച്ചുഇതെന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

26. And called one of his seruauntes, and asked, what those thynges meant.

27. അവന് അവനോടുനിന്റെ സഹോദരന് വന്നു; നിന്റെ അപ്പന് അവനെ സൌഖ്യത്തോടെ കിട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ അറുത്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. And he sayde vnto hym: thy brother is come, and thy father hath kylled the fat calfe, because he hath receaued hym safe and sounde.

28. അപ്പോള് അവന് കോപിച്ചു, അകത്തു കടപ്പാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ നിന്നു; അപ്പന് പുറത്തു വന്നു അവനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

28. And he was angry, and woulde not go in: Therfore came his father out, and entreated hym.

29. അവന് അവനോടുഇത്ര കാലമായി ഞാന് നിന്നെ സേവിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ കല്പന ഒരിക്കലും ലംഘിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; എന്നാല് എന്റെ ചങ്ങതികളുമായി ആനന്ദിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ഒരിക്കലും എനിക്കു ഒരു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ തന്നിട്ടില്ല.

29. He aunswered and sayde to his father: Lo, these many yeres haue I done thee seruice, neither brake I at any tyme thy commaundement, and yet thou neuer gauest me a kidde to make mery with my friendes:

30. വേശ്യമാരോടു കൂടി നിന്റെ മുതല് തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞ ഈ നിന്റെ മകന് വന്നപ്പോഴേക്കോ തടിപ്പിച്ച കാളകൂട്ടിയെ അവന്നുവേണ്ടി അറുത്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

30. But assoone as this thy sonne was come, which hath deuoured thy goodes with harlottes, thou hast for his pleasure kylled that fat calfe.

31. അതിന്നു അവന് അവനോടുമകനേ, നീ എപ്പോഴും എന്നോടു കൂടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നവല്ലോ; എനിക്കുള്ളതു എല്ലാം നിന്റെതു ആകുന്നു.

31. And he sayde vnto hym: Sonne, thou art euer with me, and all that I haue, is thyne,

32. നിന്റെ ഈ സഹോദരനോ മരിച്ചവനായിരുന്നു; വീണ്ടും ജീവച്ചു; കാണാതെ പോയിരുന്നു; കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ആകയാല് ആനന്ദിച്ചു സന്തോഷിക്കേണ്ടതാവശ്യമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. It was meete that we shoulde make mery and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alyue agayne: and was lost, and is founde.
