1. സഹോദരന്മാരും പിതാക്കന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, എനിക്കു ഇന്നു നിങ്ങളോടുള്ള പ്രതിവാദം കേട്ടുകൊള്വിന് .

1. Ye men, brethren and Fathers, heare my defence nowe towards you.

2. എന്നാല് എബ്രായഭാഷയില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു കേട്ടിട്ടു അവര് അധികം മൌനമായി നിന്നു. അവന് പറങ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

2. (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrewe tongue to them, they kept the more silence, and he sayd)

3. ഞാന് കിലിക്യയവിലെ തര്സൊസില് ജനച്ച യെഹൂദനും ഈ നഗരത്തില് വളര്ന്നു ഗമാലിയേലിന്റെ കാല്ക്കല് ഇരുന്നു പിതാക്കനാരുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണം സൂക്ഷ്മതയോടെ അഭ്യസിച്ചവനുമാകയാല് നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും ഇന്നു ഇരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ദൈവസ്വേയില് എരിവുള്ളവനായിരുന്നു.

3. I am verely a man, which am a Iew, borne in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought vp in this citie at the feete of Gamaliel, and instructed according to the perfect maner of the Lawe of the Fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

4. ഞാന് പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും പിടിച്ചു കെട്ടി തടവില് ഏല്പിച്ചും ഈ മാര്ഗ്ഗക്കാരെ കൊല്ലുവാനും മടി.ാതെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ചുംവന്നു.

4. And I persecuted this way vnto the death, binding and deliuering into prison both men and women.

5. അതിന്നു മഹാപുരോഹിതരും മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെ സംഘം ഒക്കെയും എനിക്കു സാക്ഷികള്; അവരോടു സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കായി എഴുത്തു വാങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടു ദമസ്കൊസില് പാര്ക്കുംന്നവരെയും പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടി ദണ്ഡനത്തിന്നായി യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവരേണ്ടതിന്നു ങാന് അവിടേക്കു യാത്രയായി.

5. As also ye chiefe Priest doeth beare me witnes, and al the company of the Elders: of whom also I receiued letters vnto the brethren, and went to Damascus to bring them which were there, bound vnto Hierusalem, that they might be punished.

6. അങ്ങനെ പ്രയാണം ചെയ്തു ദമസ്കൊസിനോടു അടുത്തപ്പോള് ഏകദേശം ഉച്ചെക്കു പെട്ടെന്നു ആകശത്തുനിന്നു വലിയോരു വെളിച്ചം എന്റെ ചുറ്റും മിന്നി.

6. And so it was, as I iourneyed and was come neere vnto Damascus about noone, that suddenly there shone from heauen a great light round about me.

7. ഞാന് നിലത്തു വീണുശൌലേ, ശൌലെ, നീ എന്നെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു എന്നോടു പറയുന്ന ഒരു ശബ്ദം കേട്ടു.

7. So I fell vnto the earth, and heard a voyce, saying vnto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou mee?

8. ഖരത്താവോ, നീ ആര് എന്നു ഞാന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുനീ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്ന നസറായനായ യേശു ആകുന്നു ഞാന് എന്നു അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said to me, I am Iesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

9. എന്നോടു കൂടെയുള്ളവര് വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടു എങ്കിലും എന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന്റെ ശബ്ദം കേട്ടില്ല.

9. Moreouer they that were with me, sawe in deede a light and were afraide: but they heard not the voyce of him that spake vnto me.

10. കര്ത്താവേ ഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചുതിന്നു കര്ത്താവു എന്നോടു; എഴുന്നേറ്റു ദമസ്കൊസിലേക്കു പോക; നീ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെല്ലാം അവിടെ നിന്നോടു പറയും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

10. Then I sayd, What shall I doe, Lord? And the Lord sayde vnto me, Arise, and goe into Damascus: and there it shall be tolde thee of all things, which are appointed for thee to doe.

11. ആ വെളിച്ചത്തിന്റെ തേജസ്സു ഹേതുവായിട്ടു കണ്ണു കാണായ്കയാല് കൂടെയുള്ളവര് എന്നെ കൈകൂ പിടിച്ചു നടത്തി; അങ്ങനെ ഞാന് ദമസ്കൊസില് എത്തി.

11. So when I could not see for the glory of that light, I was led by the hand of them that were with me, and came into Damascus.

12. അവിടെ പാര്ക്കുംന്ന സകല യെഹൂദന്മാരാലും നല്ല സാക്ഷ്യം കൊണ്ടവനായി ന്യായപ്രമാണപ്രകാരം ഭക്തിയുള്ള പുരുഷനായ അനന്യാസ് എന്നൊരുത്തന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുനിന്നു;

12. And one Ananias a godly man, as perteining to the Lawe, hauing good report of all the Iewes which dwelt there,

13. സഹോദരനായ ശൌലെ, കാഴ്ചപ്രാപിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ആ നാഴികയില് തന്നേ ഞാന് കാഴ്ച പ്രാപിച്ചു അവനെ കണ്ടു.

13. Came vnto me, and stoode, and sayd vnto me, Brother Saul, receiue thy sight: and that same houre I looked vpon him.

14. അപ്പോള് അവന് എന്നോടുനമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവം നിന്നെ തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം അറിവാനും നീതിമാനായവനെ കാണ്മാനും അവന്റെ വായില് നിന്നും വചന് കേള്പ്പാനും നിയമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന.

14. And he sayd, The God of our fathers hath appointed thee, that thou shouldest knowe his wil, and shouldest see that Iust one, and shouldest heare the voyce of his mouth.

15. നീ കാണ്കയും കേള്ക്കയും ചെയ്തതിന്നു സകലമനുഷ്യര്ക്കും നീ അവന്റെ സാക്ഷിയായിത്തീരും.

15. For thou shalt be his witnes vnto all men, of the things which thou hast seene and heard.

16. ഇനി താമസിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവന്റെ നാം വിളിച്ചു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു നിന്റെ പാപങ്ങളെ കഴുകിക്കളക എന്നു പറഞഞു.

16. Now therefore why tariest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sinnes, in calling on the Name of the Lord.

17. പിന്നെ ഞാന് യെരൂശലേമില് മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു ദൈവാലയത്തില് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുന്നേരം ഒരു വിവശതയില് ആയി അവനെ കണ്ടു

17. And it came to passe, that when I was come againe to Hierusalem, and prayed in the Temple, I was in a traunce,

18. ന് ി ബധ്ദപ്പെട്ടു വേഗം യെരൂശലേം വിട്ടുപോക; നീ എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു പറയുന്ന സാക്ഷ്യം അവര് കൈക്കൊള്കയില്ല എന്നു എന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചു

18. And saw him saying vnto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Hierusalem: for they will not receiue thy witnes concerning me.

19. അതിന്നു ഞാന് കര്ത്താവേ, നിന്നില് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാന് നടവില് ആക്കുകയും പള്ളിതോറും അടിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്തു എന്നും

19. Then I sayd, Lord, they know that I prisoned, and beat in euery Synagogue them that beleeued in thee.

20. നിന്റെ സാക്ഷിയായ സ്തെഫാനൊസിന്റെ രക്തം ചൊരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ഞാനും സമ്മതിച്ചു അരികെ നിന്നു അവനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം കാത്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു എന്നും അവന് അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And when the blood of thy martyr Steuen was shed, I also stood by, and consented vnto his death, and kept the clothes of them that slew him.

21. അവന് എന്നോടുനീ പോക; ഞാന് നിന്നെ ദൂരത്തു ജാതികളുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു അയക്കും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

21. Then he sayd vnto me, Depart: for I will send thee farre hence vnto the Gentiles.

22. ഈ വാക്കോളം അവര് അവന്നു ചെവികൊടുത്തു; പിന്നെഇങ്ങനെത്തവനെ ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളക; അവന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു യോഗ്യമല്ല എന്നു നിലവിളിച് പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And they heard him vnto this worde, but then they lift vp their voyces, and sayd, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not meete that he should liue.

23. അവര് കൂക്കലിട്ടും വസ്ത്രം കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞും പൂഴി വാരി മേലോട്ടു എറിഞ്ഞും കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

23. And as they cried and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the aire,

24. അവര് ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്റെ നേരെ ആര്ക്കുംവാന് സംഗതി എന്തു എന്നു അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അവനോടു ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപന് പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ കോട്ടയിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുവാന് കല്പിച്ചു.

24. The chiefe captaine commanded him to be led into the castle, and bade that he should be scourged, and examined, that he might knowe wherefore they cryed so on him.

25. തന്നെ വാറു കൊണ്ടു കെട്ടുമ്പോള് പൌലൊസ് അരികെ നിലക്കുന്ന ശതാധിപനോടുറോമപൌരനും വിസ്താരം കഴിയാത്തവനുമായ മനുഷ്യനെ ചമ്മട്ടി കൊണ്ടു അടിക്കുന്നതു വിഹിതമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

25. And as they bound him with thongs, Paul sayd vnto the Centurion that stood by, Is it lawfull for you to scourge one that is a Romane, and not condemned?

26. ഇതു കേട്ടിട്ടു ശതാധിപന് ചെന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപനോടുനീ എന്തു ചെയ്വാന് പോകുന്നു? ഈ മനുഷ്യന് റോമപൌരന് ആകുന്നു എന്നു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

26. Nowe when the Centurion heard it, hee went, and tolde the chiefe captaine, saying, Take heede what thou doest: for this man is a Romane.

27. സഹസ്രാധിപന് വന്നുനീ റോമപൌരന് തന്നേയോ? എന്നോടു പറക എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു

27. Then the chiefe captaine came, and sayd to him, Tel me, art thou a Romane? And he said, Yea.

28. അതെ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാന് ഏറിയ മുതല് കൊടുത്തു ഈ പൌരത്വം സമ്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപന് പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഞാനോ അങ്ങനെ ജനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പൌലൊസ് പറഞ്ഞു.

28. And the chiefe captaine answered, With a great summe obtained I this freedome. Then Paul sayd, But I was so borne.

29. ഭേദ്യം ചെയ്വാന് ഭാവിച്ചവര് ഉടനെ അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറി; സഹസ്രാധിപനും അവന് റോമപൌരന് എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അവനെ ബന്ധിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

29. Then straightway they departed from him, which should haue examined him: and the chiefe captaine also was afrayd, after he knewe that hee was a Romane, and that he had bound him.

30. പിറ്റെന്നു യെഹൂദന്മാര് പൌലൊസിന്മേല് ചുമത്തുന്ന കുറ്റത്തിന്റെ സൂക്ഷമം അറിവാന് ഇച്ഛിച്ചിട്ടു അവന് മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും ന്യായാധിപ സംഘം ഒക്കെയും കൂടി വരുവാന് കല്പിച്ചു അവനെ കെട്ടഴിച്ചു താഴെ കൊണടുചെന്നു അവരുടെ മുമ്പില് നിറുത്തി.

30. On the next day, because hee would haue knowen the certaintie wherefore he was accused of the Iewes, he loosed him from his bonds, and commanded the hie Priests and all their Councill to come together: and he brought Paul, and set him before them.
