1. സഹോദരന്മാരും പിതാക്കന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, എനിക്കു ഇന്നു നിങ്ങളോടുള്ള പ്രതിവാദം കേട്ടുകൊള്വിന് .

1. 'Men, brethren, and fathers, hear my defence now unto you;' --

2. എന്നാല് എബ്രായഭാഷയില് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു കേട്ടിട്ടു അവര് അധികം മൌനമായി നിന്നു. അവന് പറങ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

2. and they having heard that in the Hebrew dialect he was speaking to them, gave the more silence, and he saith, --

3. ഞാന് കിലിക്യയവിലെ തര്സൊസില് ജനച്ച യെഹൂദനും ഈ നഗരത്തില് വളര്ന്നു ഗമാലിയേലിന്റെ കാല്ക്കല് ഇരുന്നു പിതാക്കനാരുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണം സൂക്ഷ്മതയോടെ അഭ്യസിച്ചവനുമാകയാല് നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും ഇന്നു ഇരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ദൈവസ്വേയില് എരിവുള്ളവനായിരുന്നു.

3. 'I, indeed, am a man, a Jew, having been born in Tarsus of Cilicia, and brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, having been taught according to the exactitude of a law of the fathers, being zealous of God, as all ye are to-day.

4. ഞാന് പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും പിടിച്ചു കെട്ടി തടവില് ഏല്പിച്ചും ഈ മാര്ഗ്ഗക്കാരെ കൊല്ലുവാനും മടി.ാതെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ചുംവന്നു.

4. 'And this way I persecuted unto death, binding and delivering up to prisons both men and women,

5. അതിന്നു മഹാപുരോഹിതരും മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെ സംഘം ഒക്കെയും എനിക്കു സാക്ഷികള്; അവരോടു സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കായി എഴുത്തു വാങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടു ദമസ്കൊസില് പാര്ക്കുംന്നവരെയും പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടി ദണ്ഡനത്തിന്നായി യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവരേണ്ടതിന്നു ങാന് അവിടേക്കു യാത്രയായി.

5. as also the chief priest doth testify to me, and all the eldership; from whom also having received letters unto the brethren, to Damascus, I was going on, to bring also those there bound to Jerusalem that they might be punished,

6. അങ്ങനെ പ്രയാണം ചെയ്തു ദമസ്കൊസിനോടു അടുത്തപ്പോള് ഏകദേശം ഉച്ചെക്കു പെട്ടെന്നു ആകശത്തുനിന്നു വലിയോരു വെളിച്ചം എന്റെ ചുറ്റും മിന്നി.

6. and it came to pass, in my going on and coming nigh to Damascus, about noon, suddenly out of the heaven there shone a great light round about me,

7. ഞാന് നിലത്തു വീണുശൌലേ, ശൌലെ, നീ എന്നെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു എന്നോടു പറയുന്ന ഒരു ശബ്ദം കേട്ടു.

7. I fell also to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why me dost thou persecute?

8. ഖരത്താവോ, നീ ആര് എന്നു ഞാന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുനീ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്ന നസറായനായ യേശു ആകുന്നു ഞാന് എന്നു അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. 'And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? and he said unto me, I am Jesus the Nazarene whom thou dost persecute --

9. എന്നോടു കൂടെയുള്ളവര് വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടു എങ്കിലും എന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന്റെ ശബ്ദം കേട്ടില്ല.

9. and they who are with me the light did see, and became afraid, and the voice they heard not of him who is speaking to me --

10. കര്ത്താവേ ഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചുതിന്നു കര്ത്താവു എന്നോടു; എഴുന്നേറ്റു ദമസ്കൊസിലേക്കു പോക; നീ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെല്ലാം അവിടെ നിന്നോടു പറയും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

10. and I said, What shall I do, Lord? and the Lord said unto me, Having risen, go on to Damascus, and there it shall be told thee concerning all things that have been appointed for thee to do.

11. ആ വെളിച്ചത്തിന്റെ തേജസ്സു ഹേതുവായിട്ടു കണ്ണു കാണായ്കയാല് കൂടെയുള്ളവര് എന്നെ കൈകൂ പിടിച്ചു നടത്തി; അങ്ങനെ ഞാന് ദമസ്കൊസില് എത്തി.

11. 'And when I did not see from the glory of that light, being led by the hand by those who are with me, I came to Damascus,

12. അവിടെ പാര്ക്കുംന്ന സകല യെഹൂദന്മാരാലും നല്ല സാക്ഷ്യം കൊണ്ടവനായി ന്യായപ്രമാണപ്രകാരം ഭക്തിയുള്ള പുരുഷനായ അനന്യാസ് എന്നൊരുത്തന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുനിന്നു;

12. and a certain one, Ananias, a pious man according to the law, being testified to by all the Jews dwelling [there],

13. സഹോദരനായ ശൌലെ, കാഴ്ചപ്രാപിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ആ നാഴികയില് തന്നേ ഞാന് കാഴ്ച പ്രാപിച്ചു അവനെ കണ്ടു.

13. having come unto me and stood by [me], said to me, Saul, brother, look up; and I the same hour did look up to him;

14. അപ്പോള് അവന് എന്നോടുനമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവം നിന്നെ തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം അറിവാനും നീതിമാനായവനെ കാണ്മാനും അവന്റെ വായില് നിന്നും വചന് കേള്പ്പാനും നിയമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന.

14. and he said, The God of our fathers did choose thee beforehand to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice out of his mouth,

15. നീ കാണ്കയും കേള്ക്കയും ചെയ്തതിന്നു സകലമനുഷ്യര്ക്കും നീ അവന്റെ സാക്ഷിയായിത്തീരും.

15. because thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard;

16. ഇനി താമസിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവന്റെ നാം വിളിച്ചു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു നിന്റെ പാപങ്ങളെ കഴുകിക്കളക എന്നു പറഞഞു.

16. and now, why tarriest thou? having risen, baptize thyself, and wash away thy sins, calling upon the name of the Lord.

17. പിന്നെ ഞാന് യെരൂശലേമില് മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു ദൈവാലയത്തില് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുന്നേരം ഒരു വിവശതയില് ആയി അവനെ കണ്ടു

17. 'And it came to pass when I returned to Jerusalem, and while I was praying in the temple, I came into a trance,

18. ന് ി ബധ്ദപ്പെട്ടു വേഗം യെരൂശലേം വിട്ടുപോക; നീ എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു പറയുന്ന സാക്ഷ്യം അവര് കൈക്കൊള്കയില്ല എന്നു എന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചു

18. and I saw him saying to me, Haste and go forth in haste out of Jerusalem, because they will not receive thy testimony concerning me;

19. അതിന്നു ഞാന് കര്ത്താവേ, നിന്നില് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാന് നടവില് ആക്കുകയും പള്ളിതോറും അടിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്തു എന്നും

19. and I said, Lord, they -- they know that I was imprisoning and was scourging in every synagogue those believing on thee;

20. നിന്റെ സാക്ഷിയായ സ്തെഫാനൊസിന്റെ രക്തം ചൊരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ഞാനും സമ്മതിച്ചു അരികെ നിന്നു അവനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം കാത്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു എന്നും അവന് അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. and when the blood of thy witness Stephen was being poured forth, I also was standing by and assenting to his death, and keeping the garments of those putting him to death;

21. അവന് എന്നോടുനീ പോക; ഞാന് നിന്നെ ദൂരത്തു ജാതികളുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു അയക്കും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

21. and he said unto me, Go, because to nations far off I will send thee.'

22. ഈ വാക്കോളം അവര് അവന്നു ചെവികൊടുത്തു; പിന്നെഇങ്ങനെത്തവനെ ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളക; അവന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു യോഗ്യമല്ല എന്നു നിലവിളിച് പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And they were hearing him unto this word, and they lifted up their voice, saying, 'Away from the earth with such an one; for it is not fit for him to live.'

23. അവര് കൂക്കലിട്ടും വസ്ത്രം കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞും പൂഴി വാരി മേലോട്ടു എറിഞ്ഞും കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

23. And they crying out and casting up their garments, and throwing dust into the air,

24. അവര് ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്റെ നേരെ ആര്ക്കുംവാന് സംഗതി എന്തു എന്നു അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അവനോടു ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപന് പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ കോട്ടയിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുവാന് കല്പിച്ചു.

24. the chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, saying, 'By scourges let him be examined;' that he might know for what cause they were crying so against him.

25. തന്നെ വാറു കൊണ്ടു കെട്ടുമ്പോള് പൌലൊസ് അരികെ നിലക്കുന്ന ശതാധിപനോടുറോമപൌരനും വിസ്താരം കഴിയാത്തവനുമായ മനുഷ്യനെ ചമ്മട്ടി കൊണ്ടു അടിക്കുന്നതു വിഹിതമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

25. And as he was stretching him with the thongs, Paul said unto the centurion who was standing by, 'A man, a Roman, uncondemned -- is it lawful to you to scourge;'

26. ഇതു കേട്ടിട്ടു ശതാധിപന് ചെന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപനോടുനീ എന്തു ചെയ്വാന് പോകുന്നു? ഈ മനുഷ്യന് റോമപൌരന് ആകുന്നു എന്നു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

26. and the centurion having heard, having gone near to the chief captain, told, saying, 'Take heed what thou art about to do, for this man is a Roman;'

27. സഹസ്രാധിപന് വന്നുനീ റോമപൌരന് തന്നേയോ? എന്നോടു പറക എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു

27. and the chief captain having come near, said to him, 'Tell me, art thou a Roman?' and he said, 'Yes;'

28. അതെ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാന് ഏറിയ മുതല് കൊടുത്തു ഈ പൌരത്വം സമ്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപന് പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഞാനോ അങ്ങനെ ജനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പൌലൊസ് പറഞ്ഞു.

28. and the chief captain answered, 'I, with a great sum, did obtain this citizenship;' but Paul said, 'But I have been even born [so].'

29. ഭേദ്യം ചെയ്വാന് ഭാവിച്ചവര് ഉടനെ അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറി; സഹസ്രാധിപനും അവന് റോമപൌരന് എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അവനെ ബന്ധിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

29. Immediately, therefore, they departed from him who are about to examine him, and the chief captain also was afraid, having learned that he is a Roman, and because he had bound him,

30. പിറ്റെന്നു യെഹൂദന്മാര് പൌലൊസിന്മേല് ചുമത്തുന്ന കുറ്റത്തിന്റെ സൂക്ഷമം അറിവാന് ഇച്ഛിച്ചിട്ടു അവന് മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും ന്യായാധിപ സംഘം ഒക്കെയും കൂടി വരുവാന് കല്പിച്ചു അവനെ കെട്ടഴിച്ചു താഴെ കൊണടുചെന്നു അവരുടെ മുമ്പില് നിറുത്തി.

30. and on the morrow, intending to know the certainty wherefore he is accused by the Jews, he did loose him from the bonds, and commanded the chief priests and all their sanhedrim to come, and having brought down Paul, he set [him] before them.
