1. ദാവീദ് നോബില് പുരോഹിതനായ അഹീമേലെക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; അഹീമേലെക് ദാവീദിനെ സംഭ്രമത്തോടെ എതിരേറ്റു അവനോടുആരും കൂടെ ഇല്ലാതെ തനിച്ചുവരുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

1. David went to Nob to see Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech shook with fear when he saw David, and he asked, 'Why are you alone? Why is no one with you?'

2. ദാവീദ് പുരോഹിതനായ അഹീമേലെക്കിനോടുരാജാവു എന്നെ ഒരു കാര്യം ഏല്പിച്ചുഞാന് നിന്നെ അയക്കുന്നതും നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്നതുമായ കാര്യം ഒന്നും ആരും അറിയരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാര് ഇന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു വരേണമെന്നു ഞാന് ചട്ടം കെട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. David answered him, 'The king gave me a special order. He told me, 'No one must know what I am sending you to do or what I told you to do.' I told my men where to meet me.

3. ആകയാല് നിന്റെ കൈവശം വല്ലതും ഉണ്ടോ? ഒരഞ്ചപ്പം അല്ലെങ്കില് തല്ക്കാലം കൈവശമുള്ളതെന്തെങ്കിലും എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Now, what food do you have with you? Give me five loaves of bread or anything you find.'

4. അതിന്നു പുരോഹിതന് ദാവീദിനോടുവിശുദ്ധമായ അപ്പം അല്ലാതെ സാമാന്യമായതു കൈവശം ഇല്ല; ബാല്യക്കാര് സ്ത്രീകളോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് തരാമെന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

4. The priest said to David, 'I don't have any plain bread here, but I do have some holy bread. You may eat it if your men have kept themselves from women.'

5. ദാവീദ് പുരോഹിതനോടുഈ മൂന്നു ദിവസമായി സ്ത്രീകള് ഞങ്ങളോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇതു ഒരു സാമാന്യയാത്ര എങ്കിലും ഞാന് പുറപ്പെടുമ്പേള് തന്നേ ബാല്യക്കാരുടെ യാത്രക്കോപ്പുകള് ശുദ്ധമായിരുന്നു; ഇന്നോ അവരുടെ കോപ്പുകള് എത്ര അധികം ശുദ്ധമായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. David answered, 'No women have been near us for days. My men always keep themselves holy, even when we do ordinary work. And this is especially true when the work is holy.'

6. അങ്ങനെ പുരോഹിതന് അവന്നു വിശുദ്ധമായ അപ്പം കൊടുത്തു; അപ്പം മാറ്റുന്ന ദിവസം ചൂടുള്ള അപ്പം വെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നു നീക്കിയ കാഴ്ചയപ്പം അല്ലാതെ അവിടെ വേറെ അപ്പം ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

6. So the priest gave David the holy bread from the presence of God because there was no other. Each day the holy bread was replaced with hot bread.

7. എന്നാല് അന്നു ശൌലിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരില് ദോവേഗ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു എദോമ്യനെ അവിടെ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് അടെച്ചിട്ടിരുന്നു; അവന് ശൌലിന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും പ്രമാണി ആയിരുന്നു.

7. One of Saul's servants happened to be there that day. He had been held there before the Lord. He was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul's shepherds.

8. ദാവീദ് അഹീമേലെക്കിനോടുഇവിടെ നിന്റെ കൈവശം കുന്തമോ വാളോ ഉണ്ടോ? രാജാവിന്റെ കാര്യം തിടുക്കമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് എന്റെ വാളും ആയുധങ്ങളും കൊണ്ടുപോന്നില്ല, എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. David asked Ahimelech, 'Do you have a spear or sword here? The king's business was very important, so I left without my sword or any other weapon.'

9. അപ്പോള് പുരോഹിതന് ഏലാ താഴ്വരയില്വെച്ചു നീ കൊന്ന ഫെലിസ്ത്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്തിന്റെ വാള് ഏഫോദിന്റെ പുറകില് ഒരു ശീലയില് പൊതിഞ്ഞു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു വേണമെങ്കില് എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; അതല്ലാതെ വേറെ ഒന്നുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു തുല്യം മറ്റൊന്നുമില്ല; അതു എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞു.

9. The priest answered, 'The sword of Goliath the Philistine, the one you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here. It is wrapped in a cloth behind the holy vest. If you want it, you may take it. There's no other sword here but that one.' David said, 'There is no other sword like it. Give it to me.'

10. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു അന്നു തന്നേ ശൌലിന്റെ നിമിത്തം ഗത്ത്രാജാവായ ആഖീശിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു.

10. That day David ran away from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath.

11. എന്നാല് ആഖീശിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുഇവന് ദേശത്തിലെ രാജാവായ ദാവീദ് അല്ലയോ? ശൌല് ആയിരത്തെ കൊന്നു ദാവീദോ പതിനായിരത്തെ എന്നു അവര് നൃത്തങ്ങളില് ഗാനപ്രതിഗാനം ചെയ്തതു ഇവനെക്കുറിച്ചല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. But the servants of Achish said to him, 'This is David, the king of the Israelites. He's the man they dance and sing about, saying: 'Saul has killed thousands of his enemies, but David has killed tens of thousands.''

12. ദാവീദ് ഈ വാക്കുകളെ മനസ്സിലാക്കീട്ടു ഗത്ത് രാജാവായ ആഖീശിനെ ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

12. David paid attention to these words and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath.

13. അവരുടെ മുമ്പാകെ തന്റെ പ്രകൃതി മാറ്റി, അവരുടെ കൈകളില് ഇരിക്കെ ബുദ്ധിഭ്രമം നടിച്ചു വാതിലിന്റെ കതകുകളില് വരെച്ചു താടിമേല് തുപ്പല് ഒലിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

13. So he pretended to be crazy in front of Achish and his servants. While he was with them, he acted like a madman and clawed on the doors of the gate and let spit run down his beard.

14. ആഖീശ് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുഈ മനുഷ്യന് ഭ്രാന്തന് എന്നു നിങ്ങള് കാണുന്നില്ലയോ? അവനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

14. Achish said to his servants, 'Look at the man! He's crazy! Why do you bring him to me?

15. എന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഭ്രാന്തു കളിപ്പാന് ഇവനെ കൊണ്ടുവരേണ്ടതിന്നു എനിക്കു ഇവിടെ ഭ്രാന്തന്മാര് കുറവുണ്ടോ? എന്റെ അരമനയിലോ ഇവന് വരേണ്ടതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. I have enough madmen. I don't need you to bring him here to act like this in front of me! Don't let him in my house!'
