1. ദാവീദ് നോബില് പുരോഹിതനായ അഹീമേലെക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; അഹീമേലെക് ദാവീദിനെ സംഭ്രമത്തോടെ എതിരേറ്റു അവനോടുആരും കൂടെ ഇല്ലാതെ തനിച്ചുവരുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

1. Now David came to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. And Ahimelech was afraid when he met David, and said to him, 'Why [are] you alone, and no one is with you?'

2. ദാവീദ് പുരോഹിതനായ അഹീമേലെക്കിനോടുരാജാവു എന്നെ ഒരു കാര്യം ഏല്പിച്ചുഞാന് നിന്നെ അയക്കുന്നതും നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്നതുമായ കാര്യം ഒന്നും ആരും അറിയരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാര് ഇന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു വരേണമെന്നു ഞാന് ചട്ടം കെട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. So David said to Ahimelech the priest, 'The king has ordered me on some business, and said to me, 'Do not let anyone know anything about the business on which I send you, or what I have commanded you.' And I have directed [my] young men to such and such a place.

3. ആകയാല് നിന്റെ കൈവശം വല്ലതും ഉണ്ടോ? ഒരഞ്ചപ്പം അല്ലെങ്കില് തല്ക്കാലം കൈവശമുള്ളതെന്തെങ്കിലും എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. 'Now therefore, what have you on hand? Give [me] five [loaves of] bread in my hand, or whatever can be found.'

4. അതിന്നു പുരോഹിതന് ദാവീദിനോടുവിശുദ്ധമായ അപ്പം അല്ലാതെ സാമാന്യമായതു കൈവശം ഇല്ല; ബാല്യക്കാര് സ്ത്രീകളോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് തരാമെന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

4. And the priest answered David and said, '[There is] no common bread on hand; but there is holy bread, if the young men have at least kept themselves from women.'

5. ദാവീദ് പുരോഹിതനോടുഈ മൂന്നു ദിവസമായി സ്ത്രീകള് ഞങ്ങളോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇതു ഒരു സാമാന്യയാത്ര എങ്കിലും ഞാന് പുറപ്പെടുമ്പേള് തന്നേ ബാല്യക്കാരുടെ യാത്രക്കോപ്പുകള് ശുദ്ധമായിരുന്നു; ഇന്നോ അവരുടെ കോപ്പുകള് എത്ര അധികം ശുദ്ധമായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Then David answered the priest, and said to him, 'Truly, women [have been] kept from us about three days since I came out. And the vessels of the young men are holy, and [the bread is] in effect common, even though it was sanctified in the vessel this day.'

6. അങ്ങനെ പുരോഹിതന് അവന്നു വിശുദ്ധമായ അപ്പം കൊടുത്തു; അപ്പം മാറ്റുന്ന ദിവസം ചൂടുള്ള അപ്പം വെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നു നീക്കിയ കാഴ്ചയപ്പം അല്ലാതെ അവിടെ വേറെ അപ്പം ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

6. So the priest gave him holy [bread;] for there was no bread there but the showbread which had been taken from before the LORD, in order to put hot bread [in its place] on the day when it was taken away.

7. എന്നാല് അന്നു ശൌലിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരില് ദോവേഗ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു എദോമ്യനെ അവിടെ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് അടെച്ചിട്ടിരുന്നു; അവന് ശൌലിന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും പ്രമാണി ആയിരുന്നു.

7. Now a certain man of the servants of Saul [was] there that day, detained before the LORD. And his name [was] Doeg, an Edomite, the chief of the herdsmen who [belonged] to Saul.

8. ദാവീദ് അഹീമേലെക്കിനോടുഇവിടെ നിന്റെ കൈവശം കുന്തമോ വാളോ ഉണ്ടോ? രാജാവിന്റെ കാര്യം തിടുക്കമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് എന്റെ വാളും ആയുധങ്ങളും കൊണ്ടുപോന്നില്ല, എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. And David said to Ahimelech, 'Is there not here on hand a spear or a sword? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste.'

9. അപ്പോള് പുരോഹിതന് ഏലാ താഴ്വരയില്വെച്ചു നീ കൊന്ന ഫെലിസ്ത്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്തിന്റെ വാള് ഏഫോദിന്റെ പുറകില് ഒരു ശീലയില് പൊതിഞ്ഞു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു വേണമെങ്കില് എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; അതല്ലാതെ വേറെ ഒന്നുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു തുല്യം മറ്റൊന്നുമില്ല; അതു എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞു.

9. So the priest said, 'The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, there it is, wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take [it.] For [there is] no other except that one here.' And David said, '[There is] none like it; give it to me.'

10. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു അന്നു തന്നേ ശൌലിന്റെ നിമിത്തം ഗത്ത്രാജാവായ ആഖീശിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു.

10. Then David arose and fled that day from before Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

11. എന്നാല് ആഖീശിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുഇവന് ദേശത്തിലെ രാജാവായ ദാവീദ് അല്ലയോ? ശൌല് ആയിരത്തെ കൊന്നു ദാവീദോ പതിനായിരത്തെ എന്നു അവര് നൃത്തങ്ങളില് ഗാനപ്രതിഗാനം ചെയ്തതു ഇവനെക്കുറിച്ചല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And the servants of Achish said to him, '[Is] this not David the king of the land? Did they not sing of him to one another in dances, saying: 'Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands'?'

12. ദാവീദ് ഈ വാക്കുകളെ മനസ്സിലാക്കീട്ടു ഗത്ത് രാജാവായ ആഖീശിനെ ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

12. Now David took these words to heart, and was very much afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

13. അവരുടെ മുമ്പാകെ തന്റെ പ്രകൃതി മാറ്റി, അവരുടെ കൈകളില് ഇരിക്കെ ബുദ്ധിഭ്രമം നടിച്ചു വാതിലിന്റെ കതകുകളില് വരെച്ചു താടിമേല് തുപ്പല് ഒലിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

13. So he changed his behavior before them, feigned madness in their hands, scratched on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva fall down on his beard.

14. ആഖീശ് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുഈ മനുഷ്യന് ഭ്രാന്തന് എന്നു നിങ്ങള് കാണുന്നില്ലയോ? അവനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

14. Then Achish said to his servants, 'Look, you see the man is insane. Why have you brought him to me?

15. എന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഭ്രാന്തു കളിപ്പാന് ഇവനെ കൊണ്ടുവരേണ്ടതിന്നു എനിക്കു ഇവിടെ ഭ്രാന്തന്മാര് കുറവുണ്ടോ? എന്റെ അരമനയിലോ ഇവന് വരേണ്ടതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. 'Have I need of madmen, that you have brought this [fellow] to play the madman in my presence? Shall this [fellow] come into my house?'
