1. പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാര് എലീശയോടുഞങ്ങള് പാര്ക്കുംന്ന ഈ സ്ഥലം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തീരെ ഇടുക്കമായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു നീ കാണുന്നുവല്ലോ.

1. Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, 'Behold now, the place before you where we are living is too limited for us.

2. ഞങ്ങള് യോര്ദ്ദാനോളം ചെന്നു അവിടെനിന്നു ഔരോരുത്തന് ഔരോ മരം കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പാര്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒരു സ്ഥലം ഉണ്ടാക്കട്ടെ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. പോകുവിന് എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

2. 'Please let us go to the Jordan and each of us take from there a beam, and let us make a place there for ourselves where we may live.' So he said, 'Go.'

3. അവരില് ഒരുത്തന് ദയചെയ്തു അടിയങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പോരേണമേ എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചതിന്നു പോരാം എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Then one said, 'Please be willing to go with your servants.' And he answered, 'I shall go.'

4. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവരോടുകൂടെ പോയി; അവര് യോര്ദ്ദാങ്കല് എത്തി മരംമുറിച്ചു.

4. So he went with them; and when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.

5. എന്നാല് ഒരുത്തന് മരം മുറിക്കുമ്പോള് കോടാലി ഊരി വെള്ളത്തില് വീണു; അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം; യജമാനനേ, അതു വായിപ്പ വാങ്ങിയതായിരുന്നു എന്നു അവന് നിലവിളിച്ചു.

5. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, 'Alas, my master! For it was borrowed.'

6. അതു എവിടെ വീണു എന്നു ദൈവപുരുഷന് ചോദിച്ചു; അവന് ആ സ്ഥലം അവനെ കാണിച്ചു; അവന് ഒരു കോല് വെട്ടി അവിടെ എറിഞ്ഞു; ആ ഇരിമ്പു പൊങ്ങിവന്നു.

6. Then the man of God said, 'Where did it fall?' And when he showed him the place, he cut off a stick and threw [it] in there, and made the iron float.

7. അതു എടുത്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് കൈ നീട്ടി അതു എടുത്തു.

7. He said, 'Take it up for yourself.' So he put out his hand and took it.

8. അനന്തരം അരാംരാജാവിന്നു യിസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടായി; ഇന്നിന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു പാളയം ഇറങ്ങേണം എന്നിങ്ങനെ അവന് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരുമായി ആലോചന കഴിച്ചു.

8. Now the king of Aram was warring against Israel; and he counseled with his servants saying, 'In such and such a place shall be my camp.'

9. എന്നാല് ദൈവപുരുഷന് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിനോടുഇന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുകൂടി കടക്കാതിരിപ്പാന് സൂക്ഷിക്ക; അരാമ്യര് അവിടേക്കു വരുന്നുണ്ടു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

9. The man of God sent [word] to the king of Israel saying, 'Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Arameans are coming down there.'

10. ദൈവപുരുഷന് പറഞ്ഞും പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചും ഇരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു യിസ്രായേല് രാജാവു ആളയച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് ഒരു പ്രാവശ്യമല്ല, രണ്ടു പ്രാവശ്യവുമല്ല തന്നെത്താന് രക്ഷിച്ചതു.

10. The king of Israel sent to the place about which the man of God had told him; thus he warned him, so that he guarded himself there, more than once or twice.

11. ഇതു ഹേതുവായി അരാംരാജാവിന്റെ മനസ്സു ഏറ്റവും കലങ്ങി; അവന് ദൃത്യന്മാരെ വിളിച്ചു അവരോടുനമ്മുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് യിസ്രായേല് രാജാവിന്റെ പക്ഷക്കാരന് ആരെന്നു നിങ്ങള് പറഞ്ഞു തരികയില്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

11. Now the heart of the king of Aram was enraged over this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, 'Will you tell me which of us is for the king of Israel?'

12. അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തന് യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, കാര്യം അങ്ങനെയല്ല; നീ ശയനഗൃഹത്തില് സംസാരിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകള് യിസ്രായേലിലെ പ്രവാചകനായ എലീശാ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിനെ അറിയിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. One of his servants said, 'No, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.'

13. നിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു അവന് എവിടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു നോക്കുവിന് ; ഞാന് ആളയച്ചു അവനെ പിടിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു അവന് കല്പിച്ചു. അവന് ദോഥാനില് ഉണ്ടെന്നു അവന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി.

13. So he said, 'Go and see where he is, that I may send and take him.' And it was told him, saying, 'Behold, he is in Dothan.'

14. അവന് അവിടേക്കു ശക്തിയുള്ള സൈന്യത്തെ കുതിരകളും രഥങ്ങളുമായി അയച്ചു; അവര് രാത്രിയില് ചെന്നു പട്ടണം വളഞ്ഞു.

14. He sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city.

15. ദൈവപുരുഷന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരന് രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയപ്പോള് ഒരു സൈന്യം കുതിരകളും രഥങ്ങളുമായി പട്ടണം വളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു; ബാല്യക്കാരന് അവനോടുഅയ്യോ യജമാനനേ, നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, 'Alas, my master! What shall we do?'

16. അതിന്നു അവന് പേടിക്കേണ്ടാ; നമ്മോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവര് അവരോടു കൂടെയുള്ളവരെക്കാള് അധികം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. So he answered, 'Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.'

17. പിന്നെ എലീശാ പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുയഹോവേ, ഇവന് കാണത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഇവന്റെ കണ്ണു തുറക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യഹോവ ബാല്യക്കാരന്റെ കണ്ണു തുറന്നു; എലീശയുടെ ചുറ്റും അഗ്നിമയമായ കുതിരകളും രഥങ്ങളും കൊണ്ടു മല നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതു അവന് കണ്ടു.

17. Then Elisha prayed and said, 'O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.' And the LORD opened the servant's eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

18. അവര് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നപ്പോള് എലീശാ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുഈ ജാതിയെ അന്ധത പിടിപ്പിക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എലീശയുടെ അപേക്ഷപ്രകാരം അവന് അവരെ അന്ധത പിടിപ്പിച്ചു.

18. When they came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, 'Strike this people with blindness, I pray.' So He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

19. എലീശാ അവരോടുഇതല്ല വഴി; പട്ടണവും ഇതല്ല; എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുവിന് ; നിങ്ങള് അന്വേഷിക്കുന്ന ആളുടെ അടുക്കല് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ കൊണ്ടുപോകാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് അവരെ ശമര്യ്യയിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി

19. Then Elisha said to them, 'This is not the way, nor is this the city; follow me and I will bring you to the man whom you seek.' And he brought them to Samaria.

20. ശമര്യ്യയില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് എലീശായഹോവേ, കാണത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഇവരുടെ കണ്ണു തുറക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യഹോവ അവരുടെ കണ്ണു തുറന്നു; അവര് നോക്കിയപ്പോള് തങ്ങള് ശമര്യ്യയുടെ നടുവില് നിലക്കുന്നതുകണ്ടു.

20. When they had come into Samaria, Elisha said, 'O LORD, open the eyes of these [men], that they may see.' So the LORD opened their eyes and they saw; and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

21. യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു അവരെ കണ്ടിട്ടു എലീശയോടുഎന്റെ പിതാവേ, വെട്ടിക്കളയട്ടെ ഞാന് ഇവരെ വെട്ടിക്കളയട്ടെ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

21. Then the king of Israel when he saw them, said to Elisha, 'My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?'

22. അതിന്നു അവന് വെട്ടിക്കളയരുതു; നിന്റെ വാള്കൊണ്ടും വില്ലുകൊണ്ടും പിടിച്ചവരെ നീ വെട്ടിക്കളയുമോ? ഇവര് തിന്നുകുടിച്ചു തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു അപ്പവും വെള്ളവും അവര്ക്കും കൊടുക്കുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. He answered, 'You shall not kill [them]. Would you kill those you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master.'

23. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവര്ക്കും വലിയോരു വിരുന്നു ഒരുക്കി; അവര് തിന്നുകുടിച്ചശേഷം അവന് അവരെ വിട്ടയച്ചു; അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി. അരാമ്യപ്പടക്കൂട്ടങ്ങള് യിസ്രായേല്ദേശത്തേക്കു പിന്നെ വന്നില്ല.

23. So he prepared a great feast for them; and when they had eaten and drunk he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the marauding bands of Arameans did not come again into the land of Israel.

24. അതിന്റെശേഷം അരാംരാജാവായ ബെന് -ഹദദ് തന്റെ സൈന്യത്തെ ഒക്കെയും കൂട്ടി പുറപ്പെട്ടുചെന്നു ശമര്യ്യയെ വളഞ്ഞു.

24. Now it came about after this, that Ben-hadad king of Aram gathered all his army and went up and besieged Samaria.

25. അവര് ശമര്യ്യയെ വളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവിടെ മഹാക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായി; ഒരു കഴുതത്തലെക്കു എണ്പതു വെള്ളിക്കാശും കാല്കബ് പ്രാക്കാഷ്ഠത്തിന്നു അഞ്ചു വെള്ളിക്കാശും വരെ വിലകയറി.

25. There was a great famine in Samaria; and behold, they besieged it, until a donkey's head was sold for eighty [shekels] of silver, and a fourth of a kab of dove's dung for five [shekels] of silver.

26. ഒരിക്കല് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു മതിലിന്മേല് നടക്കുമ്പോള് ഒരു സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുയജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, രക്ഷിക്കേണമേ എന്നു നിലവിളിച്ചു.

26. As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall a woman cried out to him, saying, 'Help, my lord, O king!'

27. അതിന്നു അവന് യഹോവ നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് എവിടെനിന്നു തന്നു നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടു? കളപ്പുരയില്നിന്നോ മുന്തിരിച്ചക്കില്നിന്നോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

27. He said, 'If the LORD does not help you, from where shall I help you? From the threshing floor, or from the wine press?'

28. രാജാവു പിന്നെയും അവളോടുനിന്റെ സങ്കടം എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവള്ഈ സ്ത്രീ എന്നോടുനിന്റെ മകനെ കൊണ്ടുവാ; ഇന്നു നമുക്കു അവനെ തിന്നാം; നാളെ എന്റെ മകനെ തിന്നാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. And the king said to her, 'What is the matter with you?' And she answered, 'This woman said to me, 'Give your son that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.'

29. അങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങള് എന്റെ മകനെ പുഴുങ്ങിത്തിന്നു; പിറ്റെന്നാള് ഞാന് അവളോടുനിന്റെ മകനെ കൊണ്ടുവാ; നമുക്കു അവനെയും തിന്നാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞാറെ അവള് തന്റെ മകനെ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. 'So we boiled my son and ate him; and I said to her on the next day, 'Give your son, that we may eat him'; but she has hidden her son.'

30. സ്ത്രീയുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടപ്പോള് രാജാവു വസ്ത്രം കീറി; അവന് മതിലിന്മേല് നടന്നു പോകയായിരുന്നു; ജനം അവനെ നോക്കിയപ്പോള് അവന് അകമെ ദേഹം പറ്റെ രട്ടു ഉടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

30. When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes-- now he was passing by on the wall-- and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth beneath on his body.

31. ശാഫാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ എലീശയുടെ തല ഇന്നു അവന്റെ ഉടലിന്മേല് ഇരുന്നാല് ദൈവം എന്നോടു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

31. Then he said, 'May God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat remains on him today.'

32. എലീശാ തന്റെ വീട്ടില് മൂപ്പന്മേരോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് രാജാവു ഒരാളെ തനിക്കു മുമ്പായി അയച്ചു; ദൂതന് എലീശയുടെ അടുക്കല് എത്തുന്നതിന്നു മുമ്പെ അവന് മൂപ്പന്മാരോടുഎന്റെ തല എടുത്തുകളവാന് ആ കുലപാതകപുത്രന് ആളയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു നിങ്ങള് കണ്ടുവോ? നോക്കുവിന് ദൂതന് വരുമ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് വാതില് അടെച്ചു വാതില്ക്കല് അവനെ തടുത്തുകൊള്വിന് ; അവന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ കാലൊച്ച അവന്റെ പിമ്പില് കേള്ക്കുന്നുണ്ടല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. Now Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. And [the king] sent a man from his presence; but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, 'Do you see how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and hold the door shut against him. Is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?'

33. അവന് അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ദൂതന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തി; ഇതാ, ഈ അനര്ത്ഥം യഹോവയാല് വരുന്നു; ഞാന് ഇനി യഹോവയെ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു.

33. While he was still talking with them, behold, the messenger came down to him and he said, 'Behold, this evil is from the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?'
