1. മകനേ, വകതിരിവിനെ കാത്തുകൊള്ളേണ്ടതിന്നും നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങള് പരിജ്ഞാനത്തെ പാലിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും

1. My son, pay attention to my wisdom; incline your ear to my understanding;

2. ജ്ഞാനത്തെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു എന്റെ ബോധത്തിന്നു ചെവി ചായിക്ക.

2. so that you will preserve discretion and your lips keep watch over knowledge.

3. പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ അധരങ്ങളില്നിന്നു തേന് ഇറ്റിറ്റു വീഴുന്നു; അവളുടെ അണ്ണാക്കു എണ്ണയെക്കാള് മൃദുവാകുന്നു.

3. For the lips of a woman who is a stranger drop honey, her mouth is smoother than oil;

4. പിന്നത്തേതിലോ അവള് കാഞ്ഞിരംപോലെ കൈപ്പും ഇരുവായ്ത്തലവാള്പോലെ മൂര്ച്ചയും ഉള്ളവള് തന്നേ.

4. but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, sharp as a double-edged sword.

5. അവളുടെ കാലുകള് മരണത്തിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുന്നു; അവളുടെ കാലടികള് പാതാളത്തിലേക്കു ഔടുന്നു.

5. Her feet go down to death, her steps lead straight to Sh'ol;

6. ജീവന്റെ മാര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് അവള് ചെല്ലാതവണ്ണം അവളുടെ പാതകള് അസ്ഥിരമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവള് അറിയുന്നതുമില്ല.

6. she doesn't walk the level path of life- her course wanders all over, but she doesn't know it.

7. ആകയാല് മക്കളേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്പ്പിന് ; എന്റെ വായിലെ മൊഴികളെ വിട്ടുമാറരുതു.

7. So now, children, listen to me; don't turn away from what I am saying:

8. നിന്റെ വഴിയെ അവളോടു അകറ്റുക; അവളുടെ വീട്ടിന്റെ വാതിലോടു അടുക്കരുതു.

8. distance your way from her, stay far from the door of her house;

9. നിന്റെ യൌവനശക്തി അന്യന്മാര്ക്കും നിന്റെ ആണ്ടുകള് ക്രൂരന്നും കൊടുക്കരുതു.

9. so that you won't give your vigor to others and your years to someone who is cruel,

10. കണ്ടവര് നിന്റെ സമ്പത്തു തിന്നുകളയരുതു. നിന്റെ പ്രയത്നഫലം വല്ലവന്റെയും വീട്ടില് ആയ്പോകരുതു.

10. so strangers won't be filled with your strength and what you worked for go to a foreign house.

11. നിന്റെ മാംസവും ദേഹവും ക്ഷയിച്ചിട്ടു നീ ഒടുവില് നെടുവീര്പ്പിട്ടുകൊണ്ടു

11. Then, when your flesh and bones have shrunk, at the end of your life, you would moan,

12. അയ്യോ! ഞാന് പ്രബോധനം വെറുക്കയും എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ശാസനയെ നിരസിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ.

12. 'How I hated discipline! My whole being despised reproof,

13. എന്റെ ഉപദേഷ്ടാക്കന്മാരുടെ വാക്കു ഞാന് അനുസരിച്ചില്ല; എന്നെ പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചവര്ക്കും ഞാന് ചെവികൊടുത്തില്ല.

13. I ignored what my teachers said, I didn't listen to my instructors.

14. സഭയുടെയും സംഘത്തിന്റെയും മദ്ധ്യേ ഞാന് ഏകദേശം സകലദോഷത്തിലും അകപ്പെട്ടുപോയല്ലോ എന്നിങ്ങനെ പറവാന് സംഗതിവരരുതു.

14. I took part in almost every kind of evil, and the whole community knew it.'

15. നിന്റെ സ്വന്തജലാശയത്തിലെ തണ്ണീരും സ്വന്തകിണറ്റില്നിന്നു ഒഴുകുന്ന വെള്ളവും കുടിക്ക.

15. Drink the water from your own cistern, fresh water from your own well.

16. നിന്റെ ഉറവുകള് വെളിയിലേക്കും നിന്റെ നീരൊഴുക്കുകള് വീഥിയിലേക്കും ഒഴുകിപ്പോകേണമോ?

16. Let what your springs produce be dispersed outside, streams of water flowing in the streets;

17. അവ നിനക്കും അന്യന്മാര്ക്കും കൂടെയല്ല നിനക്കു മാത്രമേ ഇരിക്കാവു.

17. but let them be for you alone and not for strangers with you.

18. നിന്റെ ഉറവു അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്റെ യൌവനത്തിലെ ഭാര്യയില് സന്തോഷിച്ചുകൊള്ക.

18. Let your fountain, the wife of your youth, be blessed; find joy in her-

19. കൌതുകമുള്ള പേടമാനും മനോഹരമായ ഇളമാന് പേടയും പോലെ അവളുടെ സ്തനങ്ങള് എല്ലാകാലത്തും നിന്നെ രമിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ; അവളുടെ പ്രേമത്താല് നീ എല്ലായ്പോഴും മത്തനായിരിക്ക.

19. a lovely deer, a graceful fawn; let her breasts satisfy you at all times, always be infatuated with her love.

20. മകനേ, നീ പരസ്ത്രീയെ കണ്ടു ഭ്രമിക്കുന്നതും അന്യസ്ത്രീയുടെ മാറിടം തഴുകുന്നതും എന്തു?

20. My son, why be infatuated with an unknown woman? Why embrace the body of a loose woman?

21. മനുഷ്യന്റെ വഴികള് യഹോവയുടെ ദൃഷ്ടിയില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ നടപ്പു ഒക്കെയും അവന് തൂക്കിനോക്കുന്നു.

21. For ADONAI is watching a man's ways; he surveys all his paths.

22. ദുഷ്ടന്റെ അകൃത്യങ്ങള് അവനെ പിടിക്കും; തന്റെ പാപപാശങ്ങളാല് അവന് പിടിപെടും.

22. A wicked person's own crimes will trap him, he will be held fast by the ropes of his sin.

23. പ്രബോധനം കേള്ക്കായ്കയാല് അവന് മരിക്കും; മഹാഭോഷത്വത്താല് അവന് വഴിതെറ്റിപ്പോകും.

23. He will die from lack of discipline; the magnitude of his folly will make him totter and fall.
