1. യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഈ നഗരത്തില് പാര്ക്കുംന്നവന് വാള്കൊണ്ടും ക്ഷാമംകൊണ്ടും മഹാമാരികൊണ്ടും മരിക്കും; കല്ദയരുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു ചേരുന്നവനോ ജീയവനോടെയിരിക്കും; അവന്റെ ജീവന് അവന്നു കൊള്ളകിട്ടിയതുപോലെയിരിക്കും; അവന് ജീവനോടിരിക്കും എന്നും യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു

1. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia made Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah in the place of Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim.

2. ഈ നഗരം നിശ്ചയമായി ബാബേല്രാജാവിന്റെ സൈന്യത്തിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കപ്പെടും, അവന് അതിനെ പിടിക്കും എന്നും

2. But neither Zedekiah nor his officials nor the people obeyed the message which the LORD had given me.

3. യിരെമ്യാവു സകല ജനത്തോടും പ്രസ്താവിച്ച വചനങ്ങളെ മത്ഥാന്റെ മകനായ ശെഫത്യാവും പശ്ഹൂരിന്റെ മകനായ ഗെദല്യാവും ശെലെമ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യൂഖലും മല്ക്കീയാവിന്റെ മകനായ പശ്ഹൂരും കേട്ടിട്ടു

3. King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to ask me to pray to the LORD our God on behalf of our nation.

4. പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് രാജാവിനോടുഈ മനുഷ്യന് നഗരത്തില് ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പടയാളികള്ക്കും സര്വ്വജനത്തിന്നും ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള വാക്കു പറഞ്ഞു ധൈര്യക്ഷയം വരുത്തുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ കൊന്നുകളയേണമേ; ഈ മനുഷ്യന് ഈ ജനത്തിന്റെ നന്മയല്ല തിന്മയത്രേ അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. I had not yet been put in prison and was still moving about freely among the people.

5. സിദെക്കീയാരാജാവുഇതാ, അവന് നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങള്ക്കു വിരോധമായി ഒന്നും ചെയ്വാന് രാജാവിന്നു കഴിവില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. The Babylonian army had been besieging Jerusalem, but when they heard that the Egyptian army had crossed the Egyptian border, they retreated.

6. അവര് യിരെമ്യാവെ പിടിച്ചു കാവല്പുരമുറ്റത്തു രാജകുമാരനായ മല്ക്കീയാവിന്നുള്ള കുഴിയില് ഇറക്കി; കയറുകൊണ്ടായിരുന്നു അവര് യിരെമ്യാവെ ഇറക്കിയതു; കുഴിയില് ചെളിയല്ലാതെ വെള്ളമില്ലായിരുന്നു; യിരെമ്യാവു ചെളിയില് താണു.

6. Then the LORD, the God of Israel, told me

7. അവര് യിരെമ്യാവെ കുഴിയില് ഇട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു രാജഗൃഹത്തില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന കൂശ്യനായ ഏബെദ്--മേലെക് എന്ന ഷണ്ഡന് കേട്ടു; അന്നു രാജാവു ബെന്യാമീന് വാതില്ക്കല് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു.

7. to say to Zedekiah, 'The Egyptian army is on its way to help you, but it will return home.

8. ഏബെദ്-മേലെക് രാജഗൃഹത്തില്നിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു രാജാവിനോടു സംസാരിച്ചു

8. Then the Babylonians will come back, attack the city, capture it, and burn it down.

9. യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, ഈ മനുഷ്യന് യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകനോടു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും അന്യായമത്രേ; അവര് അവനെ കുഴിയില് ഇട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു; നഗരത്തില് അപ്പം ഇല്ലായ്കയാല് അവന് അവിടെ പട്ടിണികിടന്നു ചാകേയുള്ള എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. I, the LORD, warn you not to deceive yourselves into thinking that the Babylonians will not come back, because they will.

10. രാജാവു കൂശ്യനായ ഏബെദ്--മേലെക്കിനോടുനീ ഇവിടെനിന്നു മുപ്പതു ആളുകളെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു, യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകന് മരിക്കുംമുമ്പെ അവനെ കുഴിയില്നിന്നു കയറ്റിക്കൊള്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

10. Even if you defeat the whole Babylonian army, so that only wounded men are left, lying in their tents, they would still get up and burn this city to the ground.'

11. അങ്ങനെ ഏബെദ്--മേലെക് ആയാളുകളെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു രാജഗൃഹത്തില് ഭണ്ഡാരമുറിക്കു കീഴെ ചെന്നു അവിടെ നിന്നു പഴന്തുണിയും കീറ്റുതുണിക്കണ്ടങ്ങളും എടുത്തു കുഴിയില് യിരെമ്യാവിന്നു കയറുവഴി ഇറക്കിക്കൊടുത്തു.

11. The Babylonian army retreated from Jerusalem because the Egyptian army was approaching.

12. കൂശ്യനായ ഏബെദ്--മേലെക് യിരെമ്യാവോടുഈ പഴന്തുണിയും കീറ്റുതുണിക്കണ്ടങ്ങളും നിന്റെ കക്ഷങ്ങളില് വെച്ചു അതിന്നു പുറമെ കയറിട്ടുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; യിരെമ്യാവു അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തു.

12. So I started to leave Jerusalem and go to the territory of Benjamin to take possession of my share of the family property.

13. അവര് യിരെമ്യാവെ കയറുകൊണ്ടു കുഴിയില്നിന്നു വലിച്ചുകയറ്റി; യിരെമ്യാവു കാവല്പുരമുറ്റത്തു പാര്ത്തു.

13. But when I reached the Benjamin Gate, the officer in charge of the soldiers on duty there, a man by the name of Irijah, the son of Shelemiah and grandson of Hananiah, stopped me and said, 'You are deserting to the Babylonians!'

14. I answered, 'That's not so! I'm not deserting.' But Irijah would not listen to me. Instead, he arrested me and took me to the officials.

15. അതിന്നു യിരെമ്യാവു സിദെക്കീയാവോടുഞാന് അതു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചാല് എന്നെ കൊല്ലുകയില്ലയോ? ഞാന് ഒരു ആലോചന പറഞ്ഞു തന്നാല് എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കയില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. They were furious with me and had me beaten and locked up in the house of Jonathan, the court secretary, whose house had been made into a prison.

16. സിദെക്കീയാരാജാവുഈ പ്രാണനെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചുതന്ന യഹോവയാണ, ഞാന് നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുകയില്ല; നിനക്കു പ്രാണഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കുന്ന ഈ മനുഷ്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഞാന് നിന്നെ ഏല്പിക്കയുമില്ല എന്നു യിരെമ്യാവോടു രഹസ്യമായി സത്യംചെയ്തു.

16. I was put in an underground cell and kept there a long time.

17. എന്നാറെ യിരെമ്യാവു സിദെക്കീയാവോടുയിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായി സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുബാബേല് രാജാവിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്തു ചെന്നാല് നിനക്കു പ്രാണരക്ഷയുണ്ടാകും; ഈ നഗരത്തെ തീ വെച്ചു ചുട്ടുകളകയുമില്ല; നീയും നിന്റെ ഗൃഹവും ജീവനോടെ ഇരിക്കും.

17. Later on King Zedekiah sent for me, and there in the palace he asked me privately, 'Is there any message from the LORD?' 'There is,' I answered, and added, 'You will be handed over to the king of Babylonia.'

18. നീ ബാബേല്രാജാവിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്തു ചെല്ലാഞ്ഞാലോ ഈ നഗരം കല്ദയരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കപ്പെടും; അവര് അതിനെ തീ വെച്ചു ചുട്ടുകളയും; നീ അവരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു തെറ്റിയൊഴികയുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. Then I asked, 'What crime have I committed against you or your officials or this people, to make you put me in prison?

19. സിദെക്കീയാരാജാവു യിരെമ്യാവോടുകല്ദയര് എന്നെ അവരുടെ പക്ഷം ചേര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കയും അവര് എന്നെ അപമാനിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമെന്നു ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. What happened to your prophets who told you that the king of Babylonia would not attack you or the country?

20. അതിന്നു യിരെമ്യാവു പറഞ്ഞതുഅവര് നിന്നെ ഏല്പിക്കയില്ല; ഞാന് ബോധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന യഹോയുടെ വചനം കേള്ക്കേണമേ; എന്നാല് നിനക്കു നന്നായിരിക്കും; നിനക്കു പ്രാണരക്ഷയുണ്ടാകും.

20. And now, Your Majesty, I beg you to listen to me and do what I ask. Please do not send me back to the prison in Jonathan's house. If you do, I will surely die there.'

21. പുറത്തു ചെല്ലുവാന് നിനക്കു മനസ്സില്ലെങ്കിലോ, യഹോവ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിത്തന്ന അരുളപ്പാടാവിതു

21. So King Zedekiah ordered me to be locked up in the palace courtyard. I stayed there, and each day I was given a loaf of bread from the bakeries until all the bread in the city was gone.
