1. വെള്ളിക്കു ഒരു ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനവും പൊന്നു ഊതിക്കഴിപ്പാന് ഒരു സ്ഥലവും ഉണ്ടു.

1. 'For sure there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is made pure.

2. ഇരിമ്പു മണ്ണില്നിന്നെടുക്കുന്നു; കല്ലുരുക്കി ചെമ്പെടുക്കുന്നു.

2. Iron is taken out of the earth. And copper is melted from the rock.

3. മനുഷ്യന് അന്ധകാരത്തിന്നു ഒരതിര് വെക്കുന്നു; കൂരിരുളിലെയും അന്ധതമസ്സിലെയും കല്ലിനെ അങ്ങേയറ്റംവരെ ശോധന ചെയ്യുന്നു.

3. Man looks into the deepest darkness. And he goes out to the farthest part of the earth to look for rocks in the dark places.

4. പാര്പ്പുള്ളേടത്തുനിന്നു ദൂരെ അവര് കുഴികുത്തുന്നു; കടന്നുപോകുന്ന കാലിന്നു അവര് മറന്നു പോയവര് തന്നേ; മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും അകലെ അവര് തൂങ്ങി ആടുന്നു.

4. Men break open deep holes far from where people live, forgotten by travelers. In the holes they hang and move from side to side far from men.

5. ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു ആഹാരം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു; അതിന്റെ അധോഭാഗം തീകൊണ്ടെന്നപോലെ മറിയുന്നു.

5. As for the earth, out of it comes food. But below, it is turned up as fire.

6. അതിലെ പാറകള് നീലരത്നത്തിന്റെ ഉല്പത്തിസ്ഥാനം; കനകപ്പൊടിയും അതില് ഉണ്ടു.

6. Sapphires come from its rocks and its dust has gold.

7. അതിന്റെ പാത കഴുകന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; പരുന്തിന്റെ കണ്ണു അതിനെ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല.

7. No bird who eats meat knows that path. The falcon's eye has not seen it.

8. പുളെച്ച കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങള് അതില് ചവിട്ടീട്ടില്ല; ഘോരസിംഹം അതിലെ നടന്നിട്ടുമില്ല.

8. The proud animals have not stepped on it. The strong lion has not passed over it.

9. അവര് തീക്കല്പാറയിലേക്കു കൈനീട്ടുന്നു; പര്വ്വതങ്ങളെ അവര് വേരോടെ മറിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.

9. Man puts his hand on the hard rock. He turns the mountains over at its base.

10. അവര് പാറകളുടെ ഇടയില്കൂടി നടകളെ വെട്ടുന്നു; അവരുടെ കണ്ണു വിലയേറിയ വസ്തുക്കളെയൊക്കെയും കാണുന്നു.

10. He makes a path through the rocks, and his eyes see everything of much worth.

11. അവര് നീരൊഴുക്കുകളെ ചോരാതവണ്ണം അടെച്ചു നിര്ത്തുന്നു; ഗുപ്തമായിരിക്കുന്നതു അവര് വെളിച്ചത്തു കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു.

11. He stops rivers from flowing. And he brings to light what is hidden.

12. എന്നാല് ജ്ഞാനം എവിടെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടും? വിവേകത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം എവിടെ?

12. 'But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

13. അതിന്റെ വില മനുഷ്യന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; ജീവനുള്ളവരുടെ ദേശത്തു അതിനെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നില്ല.

13. Man does not know its worth, and it is not found in the land of the living.

14. അതു എന്നില് ഇല്ല എന്നു ആഴി പറയുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ പക്കല് ഇല്ല എന്നു സമുദ്രവും പറയുന്നു.

14. The deep waters say, 'It is not in me.' The sea says, 'It is not with me.'

15. തങ്കം കൊടുത്താല് അതു കിട്ടുന്നതല്ല; അതിന്റെ വിലയായി വെള്ളി തൂക്കിക്കൊടുക്കാറുമില്ല.

15. Pure gold cannot be traded for it and it cannot be bought with silver.

16. ഔഫീര്പൊന്നോ വിലയേറിയ ഗോമേദകമോ നീലരത്നമോ ഒന്നും അതിന്നു ഈടാകുന്നതല്ല;

16. It cannot be compared in worth to the gold of Ophir, onyx of much worth, or sapphire.

17. സ്വര്ണ്ണവും സ്ഫടികവും അതിനോടു ഒക്കുന്നില്ല; തങ്കം കൊണ്ടുള്ള പണ്ടങ്ങള്ക്കു അതിനെ മാറിക്കൊടുപ്പാറില്ല.

17. Gold or glass cannot be compared to it in worth and it cannot be traded for objects of fine gold.

18. പവിഴത്തിന്റെയും പളുങ്കിന്റെയും പേര് മിണ്ടുകേ വേണ്ടാ; ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വില മുത്തുകളിലും കവിഞ്ഞതല്ലോ.

18. There is no need to say anything about coral or crystal because wisdom cannot be paid for with rubies.

19. കൂശിലെ പുഷ്പരാഗം അതിനോടു ഒക്കുന്നില്ല; തങ്കംകൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ വില മതിക്കാകുന്നതുമല്ല.

19. The topaz of Ethiopia cannot be compared to it in worth and it cannot be compared with the worth of pure gold.

20. പിന്നെ ജ്ഞാനം എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു? വിവേകത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം എവിടെ?

20. Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?

21. അതു സകലജീവികളുടെയും കണ്ണുകള്ക്കു മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികള്ക്കു അതു ഗുപ്തമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

21. It is hidden from the eyes of all living. It is hidden from the birds of the sky.

22. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ചെവികൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ കേള്വി കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടു എന്നു നരകവും മരണവും പറയുന്നു.

22. The Place That Destroys and Death say, 'We have only heard about it with our ears.'

23. ദൈവം അതിന്റെ വഴി അറിയുന്നു; അതിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം അവന്നു നിശ്ചയമുണ്ടു.

23. 'God understands the way to wisdom, and He knows its place.

24. അവന് ഭൂമിയുടെ അറ്റങ്ങളോളവും നോക്കുന്നു; ആകാശത്തിന്റെ കീഴിലൊക്കെയും കാണുന്നു.

24. For He looks to the ends of the earth, and sees everything under the heavens.

25. അവന് കാറ്റിനെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുകയും വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ അളവു നിശ്ചയിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

25. He gave weight to the wind. He decided how much water would be in the sea.

26. അവന് മഴെക്കു ഒരു നിയമവും ഇടിമിന്നലിന്നു ഒരു വഴിയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയപ്പോള്

26. He decided how much rain would fall, and the path for the lightning.

27. അവന് അതു കണ്ടു വര്ണ്ണിക്കയും അതു സ്ഥാപിച്ചു പരിശോധിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

27. Then He saw wisdom and made it known. He made it last, and found out all about it.

28. കര്ത്താവിനോടുള്ള ഭക്തി തന്നേ ജ്ഞാനം; ദോഷം അകന്നു നടക്കുന്നതു തന്നേ വിവേകം എന്നു അവന് മനുഷ്യനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

28. And He said to man, 'See, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. And to turn away from sin is understanding.' '
