1. വെള്ളിക്കു ഒരു ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനവും പൊന്നു ഊതിക്കഴിപ്പാന് ഒരു സ്ഥലവും ഉണ്ടു.

1. Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold which they refine;

2. ഇരിമ്പു മണ്ണില്നിന്നെടുക്കുന്നു; കല്ലുരുക്കി ചെമ്പെടുക്കുന്നു.

2. Iron is taken out of the dust, and copper is molten out of the stone.

3. മനുഷ്യന് അന്ധകാരത്തിന്നു ഒരതിര് വെക്കുന്നു; കൂരിരുളിലെയും അന്ധതമസ്സിലെയും കല്ലിനെ അങ്ങേയറ്റംവരെ ശോധന ചെയ്യുന്നു.

3. [Man] putteth an end to the darkness, and exploreth to the utmost limit, the stones of darkness and of the shadow of death.

4. പാര്പ്പുള്ളേടത്തുനിന്നു ദൂരെ അവര് കുഴികുത്തുന്നു; കടന്നുപോകുന്ന കാലിന്നു അവര് മറന്നു പോയവര് തന്നേ; മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും അകലെ അവര് തൂങ്ങി ആടുന്നു.

4. He openeth a shaft far from the inhabitants [of the earth]: forgotten of the foot, they hang suspended; away below men they hover.

5. ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു ആഹാരം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു; അതിന്റെ അധോഭാഗം തീകൊണ്ടെന്നപോലെ മറിയുന്നു.

5. As for the earth, out of it cometh bread, and underneath it is turned up as by fire;

6. അതിലെ പാറകള് നീലരത്നത്തിന്റെ ഉല്പത്തിസ്ഥാനം; കനകപ്പൊടിയും അതില് ഉണ്ടു.

6. The stones of it are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.

7. അതിന്റെ പാത കഴുകന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; പരുന്തിന്റെ കണ്ണു അതിനെ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല.

7. It is a path no bird of prey knoweth, and the vulture's eye hath not seen it;

8. പുളെച്ച കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങള് അതില് ചവിട്ടീട്ടില്ല; ഘോരസിംഹം അതിലെ നടന്നിട്ടുമില്ല.

8. The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed over it.

9. അവര് തീക്കല്പാറയിലേക്കു കൈനീട്ടുന്നു; പര്വ്വതങ്ങളെ അവര് വേരോടെ മറിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.

9. [Man] putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock, he overturneth the mountains by the root.

10. അവര് പാറകളുടെ ഇടയില്കൂടി നടകളെ വെട്ടുന്നു; അവരുടെ കണ്ണു വിലയേറിയ വസ്തുക്കളെയൊക്കെയും കാണുന്നു.

10. He cutteth out channels in the rocks, and his eye seeth every precious thing.

11. അവര് നീരൊഴുക്കുകളെ ചോരാതവണ്ണം അടെച്ചു നിര്ത്തുന്നു; ഗുപ്തമായിരിക്കുന്നതു അവര് വെളിച്ചത്തു കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു.

11. He bindeth the streams that they drip not, and what is hidden he bringeth forth to light.

12. എന്നാല് ജ്ഞാനം എവിടെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടും? വിവേകത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം എവിടെ?

12. But wisdom, where shall it be found? and where is the place of understanding?

13. അതിന്റെ വില മനുഷ്യന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; ജീവനുള്ളവരുടെ ദേശത്തു അതിനെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നില്ല.

13. Man knoweth not the value thereof; and it is not found in the land of the living.

14. അതു എന്നില് ഇല്ല എന്നു ആഴി പറയുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ പക്കല് ഇല്ല എന്നു സമുദ്രവും പറയുന്നു.

14. The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me.

15. തങ്കം കൊടുത്താല് അതു കിട്ടുന്നതല്ല; അതിന്റെ വിലയായി വെള്ളി തൂക്കിക്കൊടുക്കാറുമില്ല.

15. Choice gold cannot be given for it, nor silver be weighed for its price.

16. ഔഫീര്പൊന്നോ വിലയേറിയ ഗോമേദകമോ നീലരത്നമോ ഒന്നും അതിന്നു ഈടാകുന്നതല്ല;

16. It is not set in the balance with gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, and the sapphire.

17. സ്വര്ണ്ണവും സ്ഫടികവും അതിനോടു ഒക്കുന്നില്ല; തങ്കം കൊണ്ടുള്ള പണ്ടങ്ങള്ക്കു അതിനെ മാറിക്കൊടുപ്പാറില്ല.

17. Gold and glass cannot be compared to it, nor vessels of fine gold be its exchange.

18. പവിഴത്തിന്റെയും പളുങ്കിന്റെയും പേര് മിണ്ടുകേ വേണ്ടാ; ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വില മുത്തുകളിലും കവിഞ്ഞതല്ലോ.

18. Corals and crystal are no more remembered; yea, the acquisition of wisdom is above rubies.

19. കൂശിലെ പുഷ്പരാഗം അതിനോടു ഒക്കുന്നില്ല; തങ്കംകൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ വില മതിക്കാകുന്നതുമല്ല.

19. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be compared to it, neither shall it be set in the balance with pure gold.

20. പിന്നെ ജ്ഞാനം എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു? വിവേകത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം എവിടെ?

20. Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

21. അതു സകലജീവികളുടെയും കണ്ണുകള്ക്കു മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികള്ക്കു അതു ഗുപ്തമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

21. For it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the fowl of the heavens.

22. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ചെവികൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ കേള്വി കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടു എന്നു നരകവും മരണവും പറയുന്നു.

22. Destruction and death say, We have heard its report with our ears.

23. ദൈവം അതിന്റെ വഴി അറിയുന്നു; അതിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം അവന്നു നിശ്ചയമുണ്ടു.

23. God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth its place:

24. അവന് ഭൂമിയുടെ അറ്റങ്ങളോളവും നോക്കുന്നു; ആകാശത്തിന്റെ കീഴിലൊക്കെയും കാണുന്നു.

24. For he looketh to the ends of the earth, he seeth under the whole heaven.

25. അവന് കാറ്റിനെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുകയും വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ അളവു നിശ്ചയിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

25. In making a weight for the wind, and meting out the waters by measure,

26. അവന് മഴെക്കു ഒരു നിയമവും ഇടിമിന്നലിന്നു ഒരു വഴിയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയപ്പോള്

26. In appointing a statute for the rain, and a way for the thunder's flash:

27. അവന് അതു കണ്ടു വര്ണ്ണിക്കയും അതു സ്ഥാപിച്ചു പരിശോധിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

27. Then did he see it, and declare it; he established it, yea, and searched it out;

28. കര്ത്താവിനോടുള്ള ഭക്തി തന്നേ ജ്ഞാനം; ദോഷം അകന്നു നടക്കുന്നതു തന്നേ വിവേകം എന്നു അവന് മനുഷ്യനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

28. And unto man he said, Lo, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
