1. നീ അധിപതിയോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇരിക്കുന്നവന് ആരെന്നു കരുതിക്കൊള്ക.

1. When you sit down to eat with a ruler, look carefully at what's in front of you.

2. നീ ഭോജനപ്രിയന് ആകുന്നുവെങ്കില് നിന്റെ തൊണ്ടെക്കു ഒരു കത്തി വെച്ചുകൊള്ക.

2. Put a knife to your throat if you like to eat too much.

3. അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജനങ്ങളെ കൊതിക്കരുതു; അവ വഞ്ചിക്കുന്ന ഭോജനമല്ലോ.

3. Don't long for his fancy food. It can fool you.

4. Don't wear yourself out to get rich. Be wise enough to say no.

5. നിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടി ധനത്തിന്മേല് പതിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അതു ഇല്ലാതെയായ്പോകുമല്ലോ. കഴുകന് ആകാശത്തേക്കു എന്നപോലെ അതു ചിറകെടുത്തു പറന്നുകളയും.

5. When you take even a quick look at riches, they are gone. They grow wings and fly away into the sky like an eagle.

6. കണ്ണുകടിയുള്ളവന്റെ അപ്പം തിന്നരുതു; അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങളെ ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.

6. Don't eat the food of anyone who won't share it. Don't long for his fancy food.

7. അവന് തന്റെ മനസ്സില് കണകൂ കൂട്ടുന്നതുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; തിന്നു കുടിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു അവന് നിന്നോടു പറയും; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയമോ നിനക്കു അനുകൂലമല്ല.

7. He is the kind of person who is always thinking about how much it costs. 'Eat and drink,' he says to you. But he doesn't mean it.

8. നീ തിന്ന കഷണം ഛര്ദ്ദിച്ചുപോകും; നിന്റെ മാധുര്യവാക്കു നഷ്ടമായെന്നും വരും.

8. You will throw up what little you have eaten. You will have wasted your words of praise.

9. ഭോഷന് കേള്ക്കെ നീ സംസാരിക്കരുതു; അവന് നിന്റെ വാക്കുകളുടെ ജ്ഞാനത്തെ നിരസിച്ചുകളയും.

9. Don't speak to a foolish person. He will laugh at your wise words.

10. പണ്ടേയുള്ള അതിര് നീക്കരുതു; അനാഥന്മാരുടെ നിലം ആക്രമിക്കയുമരുതു.

10. Don't move old boundary stones. Don't try to take over the fields of children whose fathers have died.

11. അവരുടെ പ്രതികാരകന് ബലവാനല്ലോ; അവര്ക്കും നിന്നോടുള്ള വ്യവഹാരം അവന് നടത്തും.

11. The One who guards them is strong. He will stand up for them in court against you.

12. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പ്രബോധനത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ചെവി പരിജ്ഞാനവചനങ്ങള്ക്കും സമര്പ്പിക്ക.

12. Apply your heart to what you are taught. Listen carefully to words of knowledge.

13. ബാലന്നു ശിക്ഷ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കരുതു; വടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചാല് അവന് ചത്തുപോകയില്ല.

13. Don't hold back training from a child. If you correct him, he won't die.

14. വടികൊണ്ടു അവനെ അടിക്കുന്നതിനാല് നീ അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ പാതാളത്തില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും.

14. So correct him. Then you will save him from death.

15. മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ജ്ഞാനത്തെ പഠിച്ചാല് എന്റെ ഹൃദയവും സന്തോഷിക്കും.

15. My child, if your heart is wise, my heart will be glad.

16. നിന്റെ അധരം നേര് സംസാരിച്ചാല് എന്റെ അന്തരംഗങ്ങള് ആനന്ദിക്കും.

16. Deep down inside, I will be happy when you say what is right.

17. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പാപികളോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; നീ എല്ലായ്പോഴും യഹോവഭക്തിയോടിരിക്ക.

17. Do not long for what sinners have. But always show great respect for the Lord.

18. ഒരു പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും നിശ്ചയം; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.

18. There really is hope for you tomorrow. So your hope will not be cut off.

19. മകനേ, കേട്ടു ജ്ഞാനം പഠിക്ക; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ നേര്വഴിയില് നടത്തിക്കൊള്ക.

19. My child, listen and be wise. Keep your heart on the right path.

20. നീ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും മാംസഭോജനപ്രിയരുടെ ഇടയിലും ഇരിക്കരുതു.

20. Don't join those who drink too much wine. Don't join those who stuff themselves with meat.

21. കുടിയനും അതിഭക്ഷകനും ദരിദ്രരായ്തീരും; നിദ്രാലുത്വം പഴന്തുണി ഉടുക്കുമാറാക്കും.

21. Those who drink or eat too much will become poor. If they sleep too much, they'll have to wear rags.

22. നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ച അപ്പന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്ക; നിന്റെ അമ്മ വൃദ്ധയായിരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കരുതു.

22. Listen to your father, who gave you life. Don't hate your mother when she is old.

23. നീ സത്യം വില്ക്കയല്ല വാങ്ങുയത്രേ വേണ്ടതു; ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും വിവേകവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

23. Buy the truth. Don't sell it. Get wisdom, training and understanding.

24. നീതിമാന്റെ അപ്പന് ഏറ്റവും ആനന്ദിക്കും; ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജനകന് അവനില് സന്തോഷിക്കും.

24. The father of a godly child is very happy. Anyone who has a wise child is glad.

25. നിന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് സന്തോഷിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള് ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ.

25. May your father and mother be glad. May the woman who gave birth to you be happy.

26. മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം എനിക്കു തരിക; എന്റെ വഴി നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു ഇമ്പമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

26. My son, give me your heart. Keep your eyes on the way I live.

27. വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീ ആഴമുള്ള കുഴിയും പരസ്ത്രീ ഇടുക്കമുള്ള കിണറും ആകുന്നു.

27. A prostitute is like a deep pit. A wife who commits adultery is like a narrow well.

28. അവള് പിടിച്ചുപറിക്കാരനെപ്പോലെ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; മനുഷ്യരില് ദ്രോഹികളെ വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

28. She hides and waits like a thief. She causes many men to sin.

29. ആര്ക്കും കഷ്ടം, ആര്ക്കും സങ്കടം, ആര്ക്കും കലഹം? ആര്ക്കും ആവലാതി, ആര്ക്കും അനാവശ്യമായ മുറിവുകള്, ആര്ക്കും കണ്ചുവപ്പു?

29. Who has trouble? Who has sorrow? Who argues? Who has problems? Who has wounds for no reason? Who has red eyes?

30. വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നേരം വൈകിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും മദ്യം രുചിനോക്കുവാന് പോകുന്നവര്ക്കും തന്നേ.

30. Those who spend too much time with wine. Or those who like to taste wine that is mixed with spices.

31. വീഞ്ഞു ചുവന്നു പാത്രത്തില് തിളങ്ങുന്നതും രസമായി ഇറക്കുന്നതും നീ നോക്കരുതു.

31. Don't look at wine when it is red. Don't look at it when it bubbles in the cup. And don't look at it when it goes down smoothly.

32. ഒടുക്കം അതു സര്പ്പംപോലെ കടിക്കും; അണലിപോലെ കൊത്തും.

32. In the end it bites like a snake. It bites like a poisonous serpent.

33. നിന്റെ കണ്ണു പരസ്ത്രീകളെ നോക്കും; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം വക്രത പറയും.

33. Your eyes will see strange sights. Your mind will imagine weird things.

34. നീ നടുക്കടലില് ശയിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും പാമരത്തിന്റെ മുകളില് ഉറങ്ങുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും ആകും.

34. You will feel like someone sleeping on the ocean. You will think you are lying among the ropes in a boat.

35. അവര് എന്നെ അടിച്ചു എനിക്കു നൊന്തില്ല; അവര് എന്നെ തല്ലി, ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞതുമില്ല. ഞാന് എപ്പോള് ഉണരും? ഞാന് ഇനിയും അതു തന്നേ തേടും എന്നു നീ പറയും.

35. They hit me,' you will say. 'But I'm not hurt! They beat me. But I don't feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?'
