1. നീ അധിപതിയോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇരിക്കുന്നവന് ആരെന്നു കരുതിക്കൊള്ക.

1. When you sit down to dine with a ruler, think carefully about who is before you.

2. നീ ഭോജനപ്രിയന് ആകുന്നുവെങ്കില് നിന്റെ തൊണ്ടെക്കു ഒരു കത്തി വെച്ചുകൊള്ക.

3. അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജനങ്ങളെ കൊതിക്കരുതു; അവ വഞ്ചിക്കുന്ന ഭോജനമല്ലോ.

5. നിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടി ധനത്തിന്മേല് പതിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അതു ഇല്ലാതെയായ്പോകുമല്ലോ. കഴുകന് ആകാശത്തേക്കു എന്നപോലെ അതു ചിറകെടുത്തു പറന്നുകളയും.

5. If you make your eyes rush at it, it's no longer there! For wealth will surely grow wings, like an eagle flying off to the sky.

6. കണ്ണുകടിയുള്ളവന്റെ അപ്പം തിന്നരുതു; അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങളെ ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.

6. Don't eat the food of a stingy man; don't be greedy for his delicacies.

7. അവന് തന്റെ മനസ്സില് കണകൂ കൂട്ടുന്നതുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; തിന്നു കുടിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു അവന് നിന്നോടു പറയും; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയമോ നിനക്കു അനുകൂലമല്ല.

7. For he is like someone who keeps accounts- 'Eat! Drink!' he says to you, but he doesn't really mean it.

8. നീ തിന്ന കഷണം ഛര്ദ്ദിച്ചുപോകും; നിന്റെ മാധുര്യവാക്കു നഷ്ടമായെന്നും വരും.

8. The little you eat you will vomit up, and your compliments will have been wasted.

9. ഭോഷന് കേള്ക്കെ നീ സംസാരിക്കരുതു; അവന് നിന്റെ വാക്കുകളുടെ ജ്ഞാനത്തെ നിരസിച്ചുകളയും.

9. Don't speak in the ears of a fool, for he will only despise the common sense in your words.

10. പണ്ടേയുള്ള അതിര് നീക്കരുതു; അനാഥന്മാരുടെ നിലം ആക്രമിക്കയുമരുതു.

10. Don't move the ancient boundary stone or encroach on the land of the fatherless;

11. അവരുടെ പ്രതികാരകന് ബലവാനല്ലോ; അവര്ക്കും നിന്നോടുള്ള വ്യവഹാരം അവന് നടത്തും.

11. for their Redeemer is strong; he will take up their fight against you.

12. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പ്രബോധനത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ചെവി പരിജ്ഞാനവചനങ്ങള്ക്കും സമര്പ്പിക്ക.

12. Apply your mind to discipline and your ears to words of knowledge.

13. ബാലന്നു ശിക്ഷ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കരുതു; വടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചാല് അവന് ചത്തുപോകയില്ല.

13. Don't withhold discipline from a child- if you beat him with a stick, he won't die!

14. വടികൊണ്ടു അവനെ അടിക്കുന്നതിനാല് നീ അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ പാതാളത്തില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും.

14. If you beat him with a stick, you will save him from Sh'ol.

15. മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ജ്ഞാനത്തെ പഠിച്ചാല് എന്റെ ഹൃദയവും സന്തോഷിക്കും.

16. നിന്റെ അധരം നേര് സംസാരിച്ചാല് എന്റെ അന്തരംഗങ്ങള് ആനന്ദിക്കും.

17. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പാപികളോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; നീ എല്ലായ്പോഴും യഹോവഭക്തിയോടിരിക്ക.

17. Don't envy sinners, but follow the example of those who always fear God;

18. ഒരു പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും നിശ്ചയം; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.

18. for then you will have a future; what you hope for will not be cut off.

19. മകനേ, കേട്ടു ജ്ഞാനം പഠിക്ക; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ നേര്വഴിയില് നടത്തിക്കൊള്ക.

19. You, my son: listen, be wise, and set your mind on the right way.

20. നീ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും മാംസഭോജനപ്രിയരുടെ ഇടയിലും ഇരിക്കരുതു.

20. Don't be one of those who guzzle wine or of those who eat meat to excess,

21. കുടിയനും അതിഭക്ഷകനും ദരിദ്രരായ്തീരും; നിദ്രാലുത്വം പഴന്തുണി ഉടുക്കുമാറാക്കും.

21. for both drunkard and glutton will become poor- drowsiness will clothe them with rags.

22. നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ച അപ്പന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്ക; നിന്റെ അമ്മ വൃദ്ധയായിരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കരുതു.

22. Listen to your father, who gave you life; and don't despise your mother when she gets old.

23. നീ സത്യം വില്ക്കയല്ല വാങ്ങുയത്രേ വേണ്ടതു; ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും വിവേകവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

23. Buy the truth, don't sell it, also wisdom, discipline and discernment.

24. നീതിമാന്റെ അപ്പന് ഏറ്റവും ആനന്ദിക്കും; ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജനകന് അവനില് സന്തോഷിക്കും.

24. A righteous person's father will be filled with joy; yes, he whose son is wise will rejoice in him.

25. നിന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് സന്തോഷിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള് ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ.

25. So let your father and mother be glad; let her who gave you birth rejoice.

26. മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം എനിക്കു തരിക; എന്റെ വഴി നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു ഇമ്പമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

26. My son, give me your heart; let your eyes observe my ways.

27. വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീ ആഴമുള്ള കുഴിയും പരസ്ത്രീ ഇടുക്കമുള്ള കിണറും ആകുന്നു.

27. A prostitute is a deep ditch, and a forbidden woman like a narrow well.

28. അവള് പിടിച്ചുപറിക്കാരനെപ്പോലെ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; മനുഷ്യരില് ദ്രോഹികളെ വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

28. She lies in wait to snatch her prey and adds to the number of faithless men.

29. ആര്ക്കും കഷ്ടം, ആര്ക്കും സങ്കടം, ആര്ക്കും കലഹം? ആര്ക്കും ആവലാതി, ആര്ക്കും അനാവശ്യമായ മുറിവുകള്, ആര്ക്കും കണ്ചുവപ്പു?

29. Who has misery? Who has regret? Who fights and complains all the time? Who gets bruised for no good reason? Who has bloodshot eyes?

30. വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നേരം വൈകിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും മദ്യം രുചിനോക്കുവാന് പോകുന്നവര്ക്കും തന്നേ.

30. Those who spend their time over wine, those always trying out mixed drinks.

31. വീഞ്ഞു ചുവന്നു പാത്രത്തില് തിളങ്ങുന്നതും രസമായി ഇറക്കുന്നതും നീ നോക്കരുതു.

32. ഒടുക്കം അതു സര്പ്പംപോലെ കടിക്കും; അണലിപോലെ കൊത്തും.

32. but in the end, it bites like a serpent- yes, it strikes like a poisonous snake.

33. നിന്റെ കണ്ണു പരസ്ത്രീകളെ നോക്കും; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം വക്രത പറയും.

33. Your eyes will see peculiar things, your mind will utter nonsense.

34. നീ നടുക്കടലില് ശയിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും പാമരത്തിന്റെ മുകളില് ഉറങ്ങുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും ആകും.

34. You will feel as if lying on the waves of the sea or sprawled on top of the mast-

35. അവര് എന്നെ അടിച്ചു എനിക്കു നൊന്തില്ല; അവര് എന്നെ തല്ലി, ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞതുമില്ല. ഞാന് എപ്പോള് ഉണരും? ഞാന് ഇനിയും അതു തന്നേ തേടും എന്നു നീ പറയും.
