1. നാളത്തെ ദിവസംചൊല്ലി പ്രശംസിക്കരുതു; ഒരു ദിവസത്തില് എന്തെല്ലാം സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.
യാക്കോബ് 4:13-14

1. Boast not of tomorrow, for you know not what any day may bring forth.

2. നിന്റെ വായല്ല മറ്റൊരുത്തന് , നിന്റെ അധരമല്ല വേറൊരുത്തന് നിന്നെ സ്തുതിക്കട്ടെ.

2. Let another praise you-- not your own mouth; Someone else-- not your own lips.

3. കല്ലു ഘനമുള്ളതും മണല് ഭാരമുള്ളതും ആകുന്നു; ഒരു ഭോഷന്റെ നീരസമോ ഇവ രണ്ടിലും ഘനമേറിയതു.

3. Stone is heavy, and sand a burden, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.

4. ക്രോധം ക്രൂരവും കോപം പ്രളയവും ആകുന്നു; ജാരശങ്കയുടെ മുമ്പിലോ ആര്ക്കും നില്ക്കാം?

4. Anger is relentless, and wrath overwhelming-- but before jealousy who can stand?

5. മറഞ്ഞ സ്നേഹത്തിലും തുറന്ന ശാസന നല്ലൂ.

5. Better is an open rebuke than a love that remains hidden.

6. സ്നേഹിതന് വരുത്തുന്ന മുറിവുകള് വിശ്വസ്തതയുടെ ഫലം; ശത്രുവിന്റെ ചുംബനങ്ങളോ കണക്കിലധികം.

6. Wounds from a friend may be accepted as well meant, but the greetings of an enemy one prays against.

7. തിന്നു തൃപ്തനായവന് തേന് കട്ടയും ചവിട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു; വിശപ്പുള്ളവന്നോ കൈപ്പുള്ളതൊക്കെയും മധുരം.

7. One who is full, tramples on virgin honey; but to the man who is hungry, any bitter thing is sweet.

8. കൂടുവിട്ടലയുന്ന പക്ഷിയും നാടു വിട്ടുഴലുന്ന മനുഷ്യനും ഒരുപോലെ.

8. Like a bird that is far from its nest is a man who is far from his home.

9. തൈലവും ധൂപവും ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഹൃദ്യാലോചനയുള്ള സ്നേഹിതന്റെ മാധുര്യവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

9. Perfume and incense gladden the heart, but by grief the soul is torn asunder.

10. നിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും അപ്പന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കരുതു; തന്റെ കഷ്ടകാലത്തു സഹോദരന്റെ വീട്ടില് പോകയും അരുതു; ദൂരത്തെ സഹോദരനിലും സമീപത്തെ അയല്ക്കാരന് നല്ലതു.

10. Your own friend and your father's friend forsake not; but if ruin befalls you, enter not a kinsman's house. Better is a neighbor near at hand than a brother far away.

11. മകനേ, എന്നെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നവനോടു ഞാന് ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ജ്ഞാനിയായി എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്ക.

11. If you are wise, my son, you will gladden my heart, and I will be able to rebut him who tuants me.

12. വിവേകമുള്ളവന് അനര്ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.

12. The shrewd man perceives evil and hides; simpletons continue on and suffer the penalty.

13. അന്യന്നുവേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; പരസ്ത്രീക്കു വേണ്ടി ഉത്തരവാദിയാകുന്നവനോടു പണയം വാങ്ങുക.

13. Take his garment who becomes surety for another, and for the sake of a stranger, yield it up!

14. അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു സ്നേഹിതനെ ഉച്ചത്തില് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന്നു അതു ശാപമായി എണ്ണപ്പെടും.

14. When one greets his neighbor with a loud voice in the early morning, a curse can be laid to his charge.

15. പെരുമഴയുള്ള ദിവസത്തില് ഇടവിടാത്ത ചോര്ച്ചയും കലഹക്കാരത്തിയായ സ്ത്രീയും ഒരുപോലെ.

15. For a persistent leak on a rainy day the match is a quarrelsome woman.

16. അവളെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നവന് കാറ്റിനെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ വലങ്കൈകൊണ്ടു എണ്ണയെ പിടിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നു.

16. He who keeps her stores up a stormwind; he cannot tell north from south.

17. ഇരിമ്പു ഇരിമ്പിന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് മനുഷ്യന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു.

17. As iron sharpens iron, so man sharpens his fellow man.

18. അത്തികാക്കുന്നവന് അതിന്റെ പഴം തിന്നും; യജമാനനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് ബഹുമാനിക്കപ്പെടും.

18. He who tends a fig tree eats its fruit, and he who is attentive to his master will be enriched.

19. വെള്ളത്തില് മുഖത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മുഖത്തെ കാണുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മനുഷ്യനെ കാണുന്നു.

19. As one face differs from another, so does one human heart from another.

20. പാതാളത്തിന്നും നരകത്തിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തി വരുന്നില്ല; മനുഷ്യന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തിവരുന്നില്ല.

20. The nether world and the abyss are never satisfied; so too the eyes of men.

21. വെള്ളിക്കു പുടവും പൊന്നിന്നു മൂശയും ശോധന; മനുഷ്യന്നോ അവന്റെ പ്രശംസ.

21. As the crucible tests silver and the furnace gold, so a man is tested by the praise he receives.

22. ഭോഷനെ ഉരലില് ഇട്ടു ഉലക്കകൊണ്ടു അവില്പോലെ ഇടിച്ചാലും അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വം വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

22. Though you should pound the fool to bits with the pestle, amid the grits in a mortar, his folly would not go out of him.

23. നിന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ അവസ്ഥ അറിവാന് ജാഗ്രതയായിരിക്ക; നിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളില് നന്നായി ദൃഷ്ടിവെക്കുക.

23. Take good care of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds;

24. സമ്പത്തു എന്നേക്കും ഇരിക്കുന്നതല്ലല്ലോ; കിരീടം തലമുറതലമുറയോളം ഇരിക്കുമോ?

24. For wealth lasts not forever, nor even a crown from age to age.

25. പുല്ലു ചെത്തി കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു; ഇളമ്പുല്ലു മുളെച്ചുവരുന്നു; പര്വ്വതങ്ങളിലെ സസ്യങ്ങളെ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നു.

25. When the grass is taken away and the aftergrowth appears, and the mountain greens are gathered in,

26. കുഞ്ഞാടുകള് നിനക്കു ഉടുപ്പിന്നും കോലാടുകള് നിലത്തിന്റെ വിലെക്കും ഉതകും.

26. The lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats will bring the price of a field,

27. കോലാടുകളുടെ പാല് നിന്റെ ആഹാരത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ഭവനക്കാരുടെ അഹോവൃത്തിക്കും നിന്റെ ദാസിമാരുടെ ഉപജീവനത്തിന്നും മതിയാകും.

27. And there will be ample goat's milk to supply you, to supply your household, and maintenance for your maidens.
