1. നാളത്തെ ദിവസംചൊല്ലി പ്രശംസിക്കരുതു; ഒരു ദിവസത്തില് എന്തെല്ലാം സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.
യാക്കോബ് 4:13-14

1. Don't brashly announce what you're going to do tomorrow; you don't know the first thing about tomorrow.

2. നിന്റെ വായല്ല മറ്റൊരുത്തന് , നിന്റെ അധരമല്ല വേറൊരുത്തന് നിന്നെ സ്തുതിക്കട്ടെ.

2. Don't call attention to yourself; let others do that for you.

3. കല്ലു ഘനമുള്ളതും മണല് ഭാരമുള്ളതും ആകുന്നു; ഒരു ഭോഷന്റെ നീരസമോ ഇവ രണ്ടിലും ഘനമേറിയതു.

3. Carrying a log across your shoulders while you're hefting a boulder with your arms Is nothing compared to the burden of putting up with a fool.

4. ക്രോധം ക്രൂരവും കോപം പ്രളയവും ആകുന്നു; ജാരശങ്കയുടെ മുമ്പിലോ ആര്ക്കും നില്ക്കാം?

4. We're blasted by anger and swamped by rage, but who can survive jealousy?

5. മറഞ്ഞ സ്നേഹത്തിലും തുറന്ന ശാസന നല്ലൂ.

5. A spoken reprimand is better than approval that's never expressed.

6. സ്നേഹിതന് വരുത്തുന്ന മുറിവുകള് വിശ്വസ്തതയുടെ ഫലം; ശത്രുവിന്റെ ചുംബനങ്ങളോ കണക്കിലധികം.

6. The wounds from a lover are worth it; kisses from an enemy do you in.

7. തിന്നു തൃപ്തനായവന് തേന് കട്ടയും ചവിട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു; വിശപ്പുള്ളവന്നോ കൈപ്പുള്ളതൊക്കെയും മധുരം.

7. When you've stuffed yourself, you refuse dessert; when you're starved, you could eat a horse.

8. കൂടുവിട്ടലയുന്ന പക്ഷിയും നാടു വിട്ടുഴലുന്ന മനുഷ്യനും ഒരുപോലെ.

8. People who won't settle down, wandering hither and yon, are like restless birds, flitting to and fro.

9. തൈലവും ധൂപവും ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഹൃദ്യാലോചനയുള്ള സ്നേഹിതന്റെ മാധുര്യവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

9. Just as lotions and fragrance give sensual delight, a sweet friendship refreshes the soul.

10. നിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും അപ്പന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കരുതു; തന്റെ കഷ്ടകാലത്തു സഹോദരന്റെ വീട്ടില് പോകയും അരുതു; ദൂരത്തെ സഹോദരനിലും സമീപത്തെ അയല്ക്കാരന് നല്ലതു.

10. Don't leave your friends or your parents' friends and run home to your family when things get rough; Better a nearby friend than a distant family.

11. മകനേ, എന്നെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നവനോടു ഞാന് ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ജ്ഞാനിയായി എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്ക.

11. Become wise, dear child, and make me happy; then nothing the world throws my way will upset me.

12. വിവേകമുള്ളവന് അനര്ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.

12. A prudent person sees trouble coming and ducks; a simpleton walks in blindly and is clobbered.

13. അന്യന്നുവേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; പരസ്ത്രീക്കു വേണ്ടി ഉത്തരവാദിയാകുന്നവനോടു പണയം വാങ്ങുക.

13. Hold tight to collateral on any loan to a stranger; be wary of accepting what a transient has pawned.

14. അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു സ്നേഹിതനെ ഉച്ചത്തില് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന്നു അതു ശാപമായി എണ്ണപ്പെടും.

14. If you wake your friend in the early morning by shouting 'Rise and shine!' It will sound to him more like a curse than a blessing.

15. പെരുമഴയുള്ള ദിവസത്തില് ഇടവിടാത്ത ചോര്ച്ചയും കലഹക്കാരത്തിയായ സ്ത്രീയും ഒരുപോലെ.

15. A nagging spouse is like the drip, drip, drip of a leaky faucet;

16. അവളെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നവന് കാറ്റിനെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ വലങ്കൈകൊണ്ടു എണ്ണയെ പിടിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നു.

16. You can't turn it off, and you can't get away from it.

17. ഇരിമ്പു ഇരിമ്പിന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് മനുഷ്യന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു.

17. You use steel to sharpen steel, and one friend sharpens another.

18. അത്തികാക്കുന്നവന് അതിന്റെ പഴം തിന്നും; യജമാനനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് ബഹുമാനിക്കപ്പെടും.

18. If you care for your orchard, you'll enjoy its fruit; if you honor your boss, you'll be honored.

19. വെള്ളത്തില് മുഖത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മുഖത്തെ കാണുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മനുഷ്യനെ കാണുന്നു.

19. Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart.

20. പാതാളത്തിന്നും നരകത്തിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തി വരുന്നില്ല; മനുഷ്യന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തിവരുന്നില്ല.

20. Hell has a voracious appetite, and lust just never quits.

21. വെള്ളിക്കു പുടവും പൊന്നിന്നു മൂശയും ശോധന; മനുഷ്യന്നോ അവന്റെ പ്രശംസ.

21. The purity of silver and gold is tested by putting them in the fire; The purity of human hearts is tested by giving them a little fame.

22. ഭോഷനെ ഉരലില് ഇട്ടു ഉലക്കകൊണ്ടു അവില്പോലെ ഇടിച്ചാലും അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വം വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

22. Pound on a fool all you like-- you can't pound out foolishness.

23. നിന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ അവസ്ഥ അറിവാന് ജാഗ്രതയായിരിക്ക; നിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളില് നന്നായി ദൃഷ്ടിവെക്കുക.

23. Know your sheep by name; carefully attend to your flocks;

24. സമ്പത്തു എന്നേക്കും ഇരിക്കുന്നതല്ലല്ലോ; കിരീടം തലമുറതലമുറയോളം ഇരിക്കുമോ?

24. (Don't take them for granted; possessions don't last forever, you know.)

25. പുല്ലു ചെത്തി കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു; ഇളമ്പുല്ലു മുളെച്ചുവരുന്നു; പര്വ്വതങ്ങളിലെ സസ്യങ്ങളെ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നു.

25. And then, when the crops are in and the harvest is stored in the barns,

26. കുഞ്ഞാടുകള് നിനക്കു ഉടുപ്പിന്നും കോലാടുകള് നിലത്തിന്റെ വിലെക്കും ഉതകും.

26. You can knit sweaters from lambs' wool, and sell your goats for a profit;

27. കോലാടുകളുടെ പാല് നിന്റെ ആഹാരത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ഭവനക്കാരുടെ അഹോവൃത്തിക്കും നിന്റെ ദാസിമാരുടെ ഉപജീവനത്തിന്നും മതിയാകും.

27. There will be plenty of milk and meat to last your family through the winter.
