1. നാളത്തെ ദിവസംചൊല്ലി പ്രശംസിക്കരുതു; ഒരു ദിവസത്തില് എന്തെല്ലാം സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.
യാക്കോബ് 4:13-14

1. Do not boast thyself of to-morrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

2. നിന്റെ വായല്ല മറ്റൊരുത്തന് , നിന്റെ അധരമല്ല വേറൊരുത്തന് നിന്നെ സ്തുതിക്കട്ടെ.

2. Let another praise thee, and not thine own mouth, a stranger, and not thine own lips.

3. കല്ലു ഘനമുള്ളതും മണല് ഭാരമുള്ളതും ആകുന്നു; ഒരു ഭോഷന്റെ നീരസമോ ഇവ രണ്ടിലും ഘനമേറിയതു.

3. Heavy is a stone, and weighty is sand, but, the vexation of a fool, is heavier than both.

4. ക്രോധം ക്രൂരവും കോപം പ്രളയവും ആകുന്നു; ജാരശങ്കയുടെ മുമ്പിലോ ആര്ക്കും നില്ക്കാം?

4. The cruelty of rage, and the overflow of anger! But who can stand before, jealousy?

5. മറഞ്ഞ സ്നേഹത്തിലും തുറന്ന ശാസന നല്ലൂ.

5. Better is a rebuke that is open, than love carefully concealed.

6. സ്നേഹിതന് വരുത്തുന്ന മുറിവുകള് വിശ്വസ്തതയുടെ ഫലം; ശത്രുവിന്റെ ചുംബനങ്ങളോ കണക്കിലധികം.

6. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but lavished are the kisses of an enemy.

7. തിന്നു തൃപ്തനായവന് തേന് കട്ടയും ചവിട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു; വിശപ്പുള്ളവന്നോ കൈപ്പുള്ളതൊക്കെയും മധുരം.

7. The surfeited soul, trampleth upon droppings from the comb, but, to the hungry soul, every bitter thing, is sweet.

8. കൂടുവിട്ടലയുന്ന പക്ഷിയും നാടു വിട്ടുഴലുന്ന മനുഷ്യനും ഒരുപോലെ.

8. As a bird wandering from her nest, so, is a man wandering from his place.

9. തൈലവും ധൂപവും ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഹൃദ്യാലോചനയുള്ള സ്നേഹിതന്റെ മാധുര്യവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

9. Oil and perfume, rejoice the heart, the sweetness of one's friend, more than fragrant wood.

10. നിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും അപ്പന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കരുതു; തന്റെ കഷ്ടകാലത്തു സഹോദരന്റെ വീട്ടില് പോകയും അരുതു; ദൂരത്തെ സഹോദരനിലും സമീപത്തെ അയല്ക്കാരന് നല്ലതു.

10. Thine own friend and thy father's friend, do not thou forsake; but, the house of thy brother, do not enter, in thy day of calamity, Better a neighbour near, than a brother far off.

11. മകനേ, എന്നെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നവനോടു ഞാന് ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ജ്ഞാനിയായി എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്ക.

11. Be wise, my son, and rejoice my heart, that I may answer him that reproacheth me in a matter.

12. വിവേകമുള്ളവന് അനര്ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.

12. A prudent man, seeth calamity he hideth himself, the simple, pass on they suffer.

13. അന്യന്നുവേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; പരസ്ത്രീക്കു വേണ്ടി ഉത്തരവാദിയാകുന്നവനോടു പണയം വാങ്ങുക.

13. Take a man's garment when he hath become pledge for stranger, then, for a female unknown, accept him as surety.

14. അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു സ്നേഹിതനെ ഉച്ചത്തില് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന്നു അതു ശാപമായി എണ്ണപ്പെടും.

14. He that blesseth his friend, with a loud voice, in the morning early, a reproach, shall it be reckoned to him.

15. പെരുമഴയുള്ള ദിവസത്തില് ഇടവിടാത്ത ചോര്ച്ചയും കലഹക്കാരത്തിയായ സ്ത്രീയും ഒരുപോലെ.

15. A continuous dripping on a day of downpour, and a contentious wife, are alike:

16. അവളെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നവന് കാറ്റിനെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ വലങ്കൈകൊണ്ടു എണ്ണയെ പിടിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നു.

16. He that hideth her, hideth the wind, and, perfume, his right hand may proclaim.

17. ഇരിമ്പു ഇരിമ്പിന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് മനുഷ്യന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു.

17. Let, iron, by iron, become sharp, and let, a man, sharpen the face of his friend.

18. അത്തികാക്കുന്നവന് അതിന്റെ പഴം തിന്നും; യജമാനനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് ബഹുമാനിക്കപ്പെടും.

18. He that guardeth the fig-tree, shall eat the fruit thereof, and, he that watcheth over his master, shall he honoured.

19. വെള്ളത്തില് മുഖത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മുഖത്തെ കാണുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മനുഷ്യനെ കാണുന്നു.

19. As in water, face answereth to face, so, the heart of man to man.

20. പാതാളത്തിന്നും നരകത്തിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തി വരുന്നില്ല; മനുഷ്യന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തിവരുന്നില്ല.

20. Hades and destruction, are not satisfied, and, the eyes of a man, are not satisfied.

21. വെള്ളിക്കു പുടവും പൊന്നിന്നു മൂശയും ശോധന; മനുഷ്യന്നോ അവന്റെ പ്രശംസ.

21. Fining pot for silver, and crucible for gold, and, a man, is to be tried by what he praiseth.

22. ഭോഷനെ ഉരലില് ഇട്ടു ഉലക്കകൊണ്ടു അവില്പോലെ ഇടിച്ചാലും അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വം വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

22. Though thou pound a fool in a mortar, amidst grain, with a pestle, his folly, will not depart from him.

23. നിന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ അവസ്ഥ അറിവാന് ജാഗ്രതയായിരിക്ക; നിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളില് നന്നായി ദൃഷ്ടിവെക്കുക.

23. Note well, the appearance of thy flock, apply thy mind to thy herds;

24. സമ്പത്തു എന്നേക്കും ഇരിക്കുന്നതല്ലല്ലോ; കിരീടം തലമുറതലമുറയോളം ഇരിക്കുമോ?

24. For, not age-abiding, are riches, nor is the diadem, from generation to generation:

25. പുല്ലു ചെത്തി കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു; ഇളമ്പുല്ലു മുളെച്ചുവരുന്നു; പര്വ്വതങ്ങളിലെ സസ്യങ്ങളെ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നു.

25. The grass, is taken away, and the young shoot, showeth itself, and the herbage of the mountains, is gathered;

26. കുഞ്ഞാടുകള് നിനക്കു ഉടുപ്പിന്നും കോലാടുകള് നിലത്തിന്റെ വിലെക്കും ഉതകും.

26. There are, lambs, for thy clothing, and, for the price of thy field, there are he-goats;

27. കോലാടുകളുടെ പാല് നിന്റെ ആഹാരത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ഭവനക്കാരുടെ അഹോവൃത്തിക്കും നിന്റെ ദാസിമാരുടെ ഉപജീവനത്തിന്നും മതിയാകും.

27. With, enough goats-milk, for thy food for the food of thy household, and, a maintenance, for thy maidens.
