1. നാളത്തെ ദിവസംചൊല്ലി പ്രശംസിക്കരുതു; ഒരു ദിവസത്തില് എന്തെല്ലാം സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.
യാക്കോബ് 4:13-14

1. Don't boast about tomorrow, for you don't know what the day may bring.

2. നിന്റെ വായല്ല മറ്റൊരുത്തന് , നിന്റെ അധരമല്ല വേറൊരുത്തന് നിന്നെ സ്തുതിക്കട്ടെ.

2. Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.

3. കല്ലു ഘനമുള്ളതും മണല് ഭാരമുള്ളതും ആകുന്നു; ഒരു ഭോഷന്റെ നീരസമോ ഇവ രണ്ടിലും ഘനമേറിയതു.

3. Stone is heavy and sand a dead weight, but a fool's provocation outweighs them both.

4. ക്രോധം ക്രൂരവും കോപം പ്രളയവും ആകുന്നു; ജാരശങ്കയുടെ മുമ്പിലോ ആര്ക്കും നില്ക്കാം?

4. Fury is cruel and anger overwhelming, but who can stand up to jealousy?

5. മറഞ്ഞ സ്നേഹത്തിലും തുറന്ന ശാസന നല്ലൂ.

5. Better open rebuke than hidden love.

6. സ്നേഹിതന് വരുത്തുന്ന മുറിവുകള് വിശ്വസ്തതയുടെ ഫലം; ശത്രുവിന്റെ ചുംബനങ്ങളോ കണക്കിലധികം.

6. Wounds from a friend are received as well-meant, but an enemy's kisses are insincere.

7. തിന്നു തൃപ്തനായവന് തേന് കട്ടയും ചവിട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു; വിശപ്പുള്ളവന്നോ കൈപ്പുള്ളതൊക്കെയും മധുരം.

7. A person who is full loathes a honeycomb; but to the hungry, any bitter thing is sweet.

8. കൂടുവിട്ടലയുന്ന പക്ഷിയും നാടു വിട്ടുഴലുന്ന മനുഷ്യനും ഒരുപോലെ.

8. Like a bird that strays from its nest is a man who strays from his home.

9. തൈലവും ധൂപവും ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഹൃദ്യാലോചനയുള്ള സ്നേഹിതന്റെ മാധുര്യവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

9. Perfume and incense make the heart glad, [[also]] friendship sweet with advice from the heart.

10. നിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും അപ്പന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കരുതു; തന്റെ കഷ്ടകാലത്തു സഹോദരന്റെ വീട്ടില് പോകയും അരുതു; ദൂരത്തെ സഹോദരനിലും സമീപത്തെ അയല്ക്കാരന് നല്ലതു.

10. Don't abandon a friend who is also a friend of your father. Don't enter your brother's house on the day of your calamity- better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.

11. മകനേ, എന്നെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നവനോടു ഞാന് ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ജ്ഞാനിയായി എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്ക.

11. My son, become wise, and gladden my heart, so that I can answer my critics.

12. വിവേകമുള്ളവന് അനര്ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.

12. The clever see trouble coming and hide; the thoughtless go on and pay the penalty.

13. അന്യന്നുവേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; പരസ്ത്രീക്കു വേണ്ടി ഉത്തരവാദിയാകുന്നവനോടു പണയം വാങ്ങുക.

13. Seize his clothes because he guaranteed a stranger's loan; take them as security for that unknown woman.

14. അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു സ്നേഹിതനെ ഉച്ചത്തില് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന്നു അതു ശാപമായി എണ്ണപ്പെടും.

14. Whoever greets his neighbor in a loud voice at dawn might just as well have cursed him.

15. പെരുമഴയുള്ള ദിവസത്തില് ഇടവിടാത്ത ചോര്ച്ചയും കലഹക്കാരത്തിയായ സ്ത്രീയും ഒരുപോലെ.

15. A leak that keeps dripping on a rainy day and the nagging of a wife are the same-

16. അവളെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നവന് കാറ്റിനെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ വലങ്കൈകൊണ്ടു എണ്ണയെ പിടിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നു.

16. whoever can restrain her can restrain the wind or keep perfume on his hand from making itself known.

17. ഇരിമ്പു ഇരിമ്പിന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് മനുഷ്യന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു.

17. Just as iron sharpens iron, a person sharpens the character of his friend.

18. അത്തികാക്കുന്നവന് അതിന്റെ പഴം തിന്നും; യജമാനനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് ബഹുമാനിക്കപ്പെടും.

18. Whoever tends the fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who is attentive to his master will be honored.

19. വെള്ളത്തില് മുഖത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മുഖത്തെ കാണുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മനുഷ്യനെ കാണുന്നു.

19. Just as water reflects the face, so one human heart reflects another.

20. പാതാളത്തിന്നും നരകത്തിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തി വരുന്നില്ല; മനുഷ്യന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തിവരുന്നില്ല.

20. Sh'ol and Abaddon are never satisfied, and human eyes are never satisfied.

21. വെള്ളിക്കു പുടവും പൊന്നിന്നു മൂശയും ശോധന; മനുഷ്യന്നോ അവന്റെ പ്രശംസ.

21. The crucible [[tests]] silver, and the furnace [[tests]] gold, but a person [[is tested]] by [[his reaction to]] praise.

22. ഭോഷനെ ഉരലില് ഇട്ടു ഉലക്കകൊണ്ടു അവില്പോലെ ഇടിച്ചാലും അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വം വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

22. You can crush a fool in a mortar with a pestle, along with the grain being crushed; yet his foolishness will not leave him.

23. നിന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ അവസ്ഥ അറിവാന് ജാഗ്രതയായിരിക്ക; നിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളില് നന്നായി ദൃഷ്ടിവെക്കുക.

23. Take care to know the condition of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds.

24. സമ്പത്തു എന്നേക്കും ഇരിക്കുന്നതല്ലല്ലോ; കിരീടം തലമുറതലമുറയോളം ഇരിക്കുമോ?

24. For wealth doesn't last forever, neither does a crown through all generations.

25. പുല്ലു ചെത്തി കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു; ഇളമ്പുല്ലു മുളെച്ചുവരുന്നു; പര്വ്വതങ്ങളിലെ സസ്യങ്ങളെ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നു.

25. When the hay has been mown, and the new grass appears, and the mountain greens have been gathered;

26. കുഞ്ഞാടുകള് നിനക്കു ഉടുപ്പിന്നും കോലാടുകള് നിലത്തിന്റെ വിലെക്കും ഉതകും.

26. the lambs will provide your clothing, the goats will sell for enough to buy a field,

27. കോലാടുകളുടെ പാല് നിന്റെ ആഹാരത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ഭവനക്കാരുടെ അഹോവൃത്തിക്കും നിന്റെ ദാസിമാരുടെ ഉപജീവനത്തിന്നും മതിയാകും.

27. and there will be enough goat's milk to [[buy]] food for you and your household and maintenance for your servant-girls.
