1. നാളത്തെ ദിവസംചൊല്ലി പ്രശംസിക്കരുതു; ഒരു ദിവസത്തില് എന്തെല്ലാം സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.
യാക്കോബ് 4:13-14

1. Make not thy boast(boost) of to morrow, for thou knowest not what may happen to day.

2. നിന്റെ വായല്ല മറ്റൊരുത്തന് , നിന്റെ അധരമല്ല വേറൊരുത്തന് നിന്നെ സ്തുതിക്കട്ടെ.

2. Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth: yea other folk's lips and not thine.

3. കല്ലു ഘനമുള്ളതും മണല് ഭാരമുള്ളതും ആകുന്നു; ഒരു ഭോഷന്റെ നീരസമോ ഇവ രണ്ടിലും ഘനമേറിയതു.

3. The stone is heavy, and the sand weighty: but a fool's wrath is heavier than they both.

4. ക്രോധം ക്രൂരവും കോപം പ്രളയവും ആകുന്നു; ജാരശങ്കയുടെ മുമ്പിലോ ആര്ക്കും നില്ക്കാം?

4. Wrath is a cruel thing, and furriousness is a very tempest: yea who is able to abide envy?

5. മറഞ്ഞ സ്നേഹത്തിലും തുറന്ന ശാസന നല്ലൂ.

5. An open rebuke is better than secret love.

6. സ്നേഹിതന് വരുത്തുന്ന മുറിവുകള് വിശ്വസ്തതയുടെ ഫലം; ശത്രുവിന്റെ ചുംബനങ്ങളോ കണക്കിലധികം.

6. Faithful are the wounds of a lover, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

7. തിന്നു തൃപ്തനായവന് തേന് കട്ടയും ചവിട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു; വിശപ്പുള്ളവന്നോ കൈപ്പുള്ളതൊക്കെയും മധുരം.

7. He that is full, abhoreth an honeycomb: but unto him that is hungry, every sour thing is sweet.

8. കൂടുവിട്ടലയുന്ന പക്ഷിയും നാടു വിട്ടുഴലുന്ന മനുഷ്യനും ഒരുപോലെ.

8. He that oft times flitteth, is like a bird that forsaketh her nest.

9. തൈലവും ധൂപവും ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഹൃദ്യാലോചനയുള്ള സ്നേഹിതന്റെ മാധുര്യവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

9. The heart is glad of a sweet ointment and savour, but a stomach that can give good counsel, rejoiceth a man's neighbour.

10. നിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും അപ്പന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനെയും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കരുതു; തന്റെ കഷ്ടകാലത്തു സഹോദരന്റെ വീട്ടില് പോകയും അരുതു; ദൂരത്തെ സഹോദരനിലും സമീപത്തെ അയല്ക്കാരന് നല്ലതു.

10. Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, see thou forsake not, but go not into thy brother's house in time of thy trouble. Better is a friend at hand than a brother far off.

11. മകനേ, എന്നെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നവനോടു ഞാന് ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ജ്ഞാനിയായി എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്ക.

11. My son, be wise, and thou shalt make me a glad heart: so that I shall make answer unto my rebukers.

12. വിവേകമുള്ളവന് അനര്ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.

12. A wise man seeing the plague will hide himself, as for fools they go on still, and suffer harm.

13. അന്യന്നുവേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; പരസ്ത്രീക്കു വേണ്ടി ഉത്തരവാദിയാകുന്നവനോടു പണയം വാങ്ങുക.

13. Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for the unknown man's sake.

14. അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു സ്നേഹിതനെ ഉച്ചത്തില് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന്നു അതു ശാപമായി എണ്ണപ്പെടും.

14. He that is too hasty to praise his neighbour above measure, shall be taken as one that giveth him an evil report.

15. പെരുമഴയുള്ള ദിവസത്തില് ഇടവിടാത്ത ചോര്ച്ചയും കലഹക്കാരത്തിയായ സ്ത്രീയും ഒരുപോലെ.

15. A brawling woman and the roof of the house dropping in a rainy day, may well be compared together.

16. അവളെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നവന് കാറ്റിനെ ഒതുക്കുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ വലങ്കൈകൊണ്ടു എണ്ണയെ പിടിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നു.

16. He that refraineth her, refraineth the wind, and holdeth oil fast in his hand.

17. ഇരിമ്പു ഇരിമ്പിന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് മനുഷ്യന്നു മൂര്ച്ചകൂട്ടുന്നു.

17. Like as one iron wheteth another, so doth one man comfort another.

18. അത്തികാക്കുന്നവന് അതിന്റെ പഴം തിന്നും; യജമാനനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് ബഹുമാനിക്കപ്പെടും.

18. Who so keepeth his fig tree, shall enjoy the fruits thereof: he that waiteth upon his master, shall come to honour.

19. വെള്ളത്തില് മുഖത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മുഖത്തെ കാണുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം മനുഷ്യനെ കാണുന്നു.

19. Like as in one water there appear divers faces, even so divers men have divers hearts.

20. പാതാളത്തിന്നും നരകത്തിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തി വരുന്നില്ല; മനുഷ്യന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തിവരുന്നില്ല.

20. Like as hell and destruction are never full, even so the eyes of men can never be satisfied.

21. വെള്ളിക്കു പുടവും പൊന്നിന്നു മൂശയും ശോധന; മനുഷ്യന്നോ അവന്റെ പ്രശംസ.

21. Silver is tried in the mould, and gold in the furnace, and so is a man, when he is openly praised to his face.

22. ഭോഷനെ ഉരലില് ഇട്ടു ഉലക്കകൊണ്ടു അവില്പോലെ ഇടിച്ചാലും അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വം വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

22. Though thou shouldest bray a fool with a pedestal in a mortar like oatmeal, yet will not his foolishness go from him.

23. നിന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ അവസ്ഥ അറിവാന് ജാഗ്രതയായിരിക്ക; നിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളില് നന്നായി ദൃഷ്ടിവെക്കുക.

23. See that thou know the number of thy cattle thy self, and look well to thy flocks.

24. സമ്പത്തു എന്നേക്കും ഇരിക്കുന്നതല്ലല്ലോ; കിരീടം തലമുറതലമുറയോളം ഇരിക്കുമോ?

24. For riches abide not away, and the crown endureth not for ever.

25. പുല്ലു ചെത്തി കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു; ഇളമ്പുല്ലു മുളെച്ചുവരുന്നു; പര്വ്വതങ്ങളിലെ സസ്യങ്ങളെ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നു.

25. The hay groweth, the grass cometh up, and herbs are gathered in the mountains.

26. കുഞ്ഞാടുകള് നിനക്കു ഉടുപ്പിന്നും കോലാടുകള് നിലത്തിന്റെ വിലെക്കും ഉതകും.

26. The lambs shall clothe thee, and for the goats thou shalt have money to thy husbandry.

27. കോലാടുകളുടെ പാല് നിന്റെ ആഹാരത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ഭവനക്കാരുടെ അഹോവൃത്തിക്കും നിന്റെ ദാസിമാരുടെ ഉപജീവനത്തിന്നും മതിയാകും.

27. Thou shalt have goats' milk enough to feed thee, to uphold thy household, and to sustain thy maidens.
