1. മകനേ, എന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ പ്രമാണിച്ചു എന്റെ കല്പനകളെ നിന്റെ ഉള്ളില് സംഗ്രഹിച്ചുകൊള്ക.

1. My son, obey my words, and treasure my commands.

2. നീ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ കല്പനകളെയും ഉപദേശത്തെയും നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്റെ കൃഷ്ണമണിയെപ്പോലെ കാത്തുകൊള്ക.

2. Keep my commands and live; protect my teachings as you would the pupil of your eye.

3. നിന്റെ വിരലിന്മേല് അവയെ കെട്ടുക; ഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ പലകയില് എഴുതുക.

3. Tie them to your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

4. ജ്ഞാനത്തോടുനീ എന്റെ സഹോദരി എന്നു പറക; വിവേകത്തിന്നു സഖി എന്നു പേര് വിളിക്ക.

4. Say to wisdom, 'You are my sister,' and call understanding [your] relative.

5. അവ നിന്നെ പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും ചക്കരവാക്കു പറയുന്ന അന്യസ്ത്രീയുടെ വശത്തുനിന്നും കാക്കും.

5. She will keep you from a forbidden woman, a stranger with her flattering talk.

6. ഞാന് എന്റെ വീട്ടിന്റെ കിളിവാതില്ക്കല് അഴിക്കിടയില്കൂടി നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

6. At the window of my house I looked through my lattice.

7. ഭോഷന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് ഒരുത്തനെ കണ്ടു; യൌവനക്കാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ബുദ്ധിഹീനനായോരു യുവാവിനെ കണ്ടറിഞ്ഞു.

7. I saw among the inexperienced, I noticed among the youths, a young man lacking sense.

8. അവന് വൈകുന്നേരം, സന്ധ്യാസമയത്തു, ഇരുട്ടും അന്ധകാരവുമുള്ള ഒരു രാത്രിയില്,

8. Crossing the street near her corner, he strolled down the road to her house

9. അവളുടെ വീട്ടിന്റെ കോണിന്നരികെ വീഥിയില്കൂടി കടന്നു, അവളുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയെ നടന്നു ചെല്ലുന്നു.

10. പെട്ടെന്നു ഇതാ, വേശ്യാവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചും ഹൃദയത്തില് ഉപായം പൂണ്ടും ഉള്ളോരു സ്ത്രീ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റുവരുന്നു.

10. A woman came to meet him, dressed like a prostitute, having a hidden agenda.

11. അവള് മോഹപരവശയും തന്നിഷ്ടക്കാരത്തിയും ആകുന്നു; അവളുടെ കാല് വീട്ടില് അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കയില്ല.

11. She is loud and defiant; her feet do not stay at home.

12. ഇപ്പോള് അവളെ വീഥിയിലും പിന്നെ വിശാലസ്ഥലത്തും കാണാം; ഔരോ കോണിലും അവള് പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

12. Now in the street, now in the squares, she lurks at every corner.

13. She grabs him and kisses him; she brazenly says to him,

14. 'I've made fellowship offerings; today I've fulfilled my vows.

15. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് നിന്നെ കാണ്മാന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു. നിന്നെ എതിരേല്പാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു നിന്നെ കണ്ടെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

15. So I came out to meet you, to search for you, and I've found you.

16. ഞാന് എന്റെ കട്ടിലിന്മേല് പരവതാനികളും മിസ്രയീമ്യനൂല്കൊണ്ടുള്ള വരിയന് പടങ്ങളും വിരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

16. I've spread coverings on my bed-- richly colored linen from Egypt.

17. മൂറും അകിലും ലവംഗവുംകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് എന്റെ മെത്ത സുഗന്ധമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. I've perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18. വരിക; വെളുക്കുംവരെ നമുക്കു പ്രേമത്തില് രമിക്കാം; കാമവിലാസങ്ങളാല് നമുക്കു സുഖിക്കാം.

18. Come, let's drink deeply of lovemaking until morning. Let's feast on each other's love!

19. പുരുഷന് വീട്ടില് ഇല്ല; ദൂരയാത്ര പോയിരിക്കുന്നു;

19. My husband isn't home; he went on a long journey.

20. പണമടിശ്ശീല കൂടെ കൊണ്ടുപോയിട്ടുണ്ടു; പൌര്ണ്ണമാസിക്കേ വീട്ടില് വന്നെത്തുകയുള്ളു.

20. He took a bag of money with him and will come home at the time of the full moon.'

21. ഇങ്ങനെ ഏറിയോരു ഇമ്പവാക്കുകളാല് അവള് അവനെ വശീകരിച്ചു അധരമാധുര്യംകൊണ്ടു അവനെ നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിക്കുന്നു.

21. She seduces him with her persistent pleading; she lures with her flattering talk.

22. അറുക്കുന്നേടത്തേക്കു കാളയും ചങ്ങലയിലേക്കു ഭോഷനും പോകുന്നതുപോലെയും,

22. He follows her impulsively like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer bounding toward a trap

23. പക്ഷി ജീവഹാനിക്കുള്ളതെന്നറിയാതെ കണിയിലേക്കു ബദ്ധപ്പെടുന്നതുപോലെയും കരളില് അസ്ത്രം തറെക്കുവോളം അവന് അവളുടെ പിന്നാലെ ചെല്ലുന്നു.

23. until an arrow pierces its liver, like a bird darting into a snare-- he doesn't know it will cost him his life.

24. ആകയാല് മക്കളേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്പ്പിന് ; എന്റെ വായിലെ വചനങ്ങളെ ശ്രദ്ധിപ്പിന് .

24. Now, [my] sons, listen to me, and pay attention to the words of my mouth.

25. നിന്റെ മനസ്സു അവളുടെ വഴിയിലേക്കു ചായരുതു; അവളുടെ പാതകളിലേക്കു നീ തെറ്റിച്ചെല്ലുകയുമരുതു.

25. Don't let your heart turn aside to her ways; don't stray onto her paths.

26. അവള് വീഴിച്ച ഹതന്മാര് അനേകര്; അവള് കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞവര് ആകെ വലിയോരു കൂട്ടം ആകുന്നു.

26. For she has brought many down to death; her victims are countless.

27. അവളുടെ വീടു പാതാളത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയാകുന്നു; അതു മരണത്തിന്റെ അറകളിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുന്നു.

27. Her house is the road to Sheol, descending to the chambers of death.
